I got food to go but the atmosphere was cute. The people that work there are nice but the food just wasn't good. The saag paneer was very oily and tasted burnt. The Sabzi biryani had very little flavor and the vegetables were over cooked. The prices are a little high as well. Do yourself a favor and go to Mynt in Winter park.

Very cultural and cute Indian restaurant giving me New York cozy vibes with its small space inside. I stopped by for Indian chai and can't get enough of it. I definitely will come here with friends and colleagues to this restaurant. Very few people can appreciate this cultural spot in Florida.

A great little Indian restaurant in Mount Dora. Mount Dora was packed for some festival but we were able to get right in. The tandoori chicken was excellent and the krona was plentiful the leftovers will be great

I love strolling around Mount Dora and trying new restaurants, I stumbled upon Shiva Indian Restaurant and was excited. The outside was beautiful, I loved the decor and all the beautiful detail they took the time to put in the restaurant. The service was ok, the young lady was new so she was trying but we kept having to flag her down for drink refills and little things you would ask for if she checked in. There was a man that was very helpful. I apologize I did not get their names. The food was subpar, I enjoy trying new Indian restaurants and I get the same thing every time. Lamb samosa, Chicken tikka masala and lamb biriyani. The tikka needed more spices, it was bland and the same for the biriyani. I will say after asking for the yogurt sauce, I was able to eat the biriyani. I samosa was ok lacked seasoning. Overall, I'm not sure it's a restaurant I have to return to as there are so many more to try but I won't say never.

Dinner at Shiva was such an enjoyable experience. The restaurant was cozy and inviting. We knew that we were going to get an authentic experience the moment that we walked into the door. Our server was attentive and informative, offering friendly conversation to our large group. The food was fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed vegetable Samosa with a delicious, earthy Chutney and a warm bowl of Dal Makhani with basmati rice and garlic naan. I will definitely be back soon!!

Why this place got two stars, is because the food was pretty good, and the decor was decent. However everything else was SERIOUSLY lacking at this location, and I left feeling terrible from the way that I was treated. I've been to a couple of Indian restaurants, and my mother was in town and really enjoys Indian cuisine. We were showing her Mt.Dora and saw this place and thought we check it out. We went in and asked for a menu, which when I opened was sticky. But I put that to the side, cause sometimes different soaps can do that. The waitress though...if you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, she made you feel bad about it. Each time I'd ask a question or spoke any words her smile would immediately go away. The only time she smiled at me was when we were getting our to go boxes. It took some time getting recommendations out of her, and we had to wait over 10 minutes to get my husbands drink refilled, and rather than taking the empty glass after dropping off the refill, she left it there! Mind you, we were the only table in the restaurant during this time. To end things off, my husband told me I had an ant on my hand that almost went on my face, and my moms purse had ants on it which we discovered right after leaving the restaurant. Though the food was pretty good(some of the basmati rice was crunchy) and the prices weren't crazy for the food we received (it was a little high) we would NOT recommend dining here until some sort of improvement comes to this establishment.

The vegetable korma was plentiful and basmati rice was included. The korma was creamy with the cashew paste and had an ample amount of tasty vegetables. The korma was also on the milder side, but still has some spices for me to enjoy. The rice was cooked nicely to enjoy the korma with. We also had some onion nan, which was pretty fluffy, and soft after putting it on the korma. The lassi was on the thicker side, but still very enjoyable as the the yogurt texture made the drink more authentic. The ras malai for dessert is always my favorite, and this was no exception as it was 4 ricotta cheese balls in a milky sauce that had a hint of rose flavor. All food and drinks were very satisfying. Since my dad had all the food to go, I am unable to comment on the service and atmosphere. However, I know this restaurant is owned by Uday (who used to have Passage to India) in International Drive, so I knew this place would be high quality. They were all very nice. The food was so good! This may have been the best Indian food I've had in the Winter Garden/Clermont area! The chicken tikka was flavorful and delicious, even though I only got mild. (They have an array of spice levels for all of the dishes. For reference, the mild has absolutely no heat, so anyone afraid of heat, you don't have to worry!) The samosas were yummy, and the garlic naan was fresh out of the oven. This place came highly recommended, so we decided to stop for lunch around 1230 pm on a weekday. They were empty. We were greeted by a very friendly man with a mustache who seated us quickly and brought cold water to our table. They had the buffet which my daughter ordered. I opted to order off of the menu and got medium spice chicken vindaloo and garlic naan. The buffet had a variety of chicken, lamb, and lentil dishes. Her chicken dishes looked fantastic-fresh, white meant chicken chunks. Her lentil and potatoes looked dry but her only complaint was that they were bland for her taste. In fairness, she likes spicy dishes. I am very picky about my protein so take my next sentence with that in mind, if you are also picky: My chicken vindaloo was all potatoes with 3-4 pieces of dark meat chicken held together by fat and gristle. The chicken was inedible. The sauce was too thick-I have eaten vindaloo many many places and never had it look like this in my life. It was clumpy. The basmati rice it came with was fine. The garlic naan I ordered and the butter naan (came with the buffet) were both so soaked in butter that the naan was immediately soggy and not at all good. I think that the key to this place is to order off the buffet during lunch. Indeed, the man who seated us appeared to "highly suggest" the buffet and seemed nonplussed when I requested the menu. We were so disappointed in this place and will not return.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. My wife chose the buffet, assuming everything would be freshly prepared at opening time. To our surprise, every single item on the buffet line was cold -- from the rice and chicken dishes to the biryani and palak paneer. If a restaurant opens at 11:30, the food should be hot and ready to serve. Cold curries and rice immediately take away from both texture and flavor, and in this case, the dishes tasted flat and lacked the depth of spices you expect from Indian cuisine. Based on this visit, I would recommend skipping the buffet and ordering from the regular menu instead. Buffet selections often feel like the more economical options, and here they were devoid of the bold flavors that make Indian food so memorable. I ordered the chicken biryani from the à la carte menu. It was noticeably better -- aromatic and more flavorful than the buffet items. However, it still missed an important element. Traditionally, biryani is prepared by marinating the chicken and cooking it together with the rice so the spices infuse the meat and every bite is cohesive. In this case, while the rice carried some fragrance, the chicken itself was not well marinated and tasted bland on its own. It felt more assembled than thoughtfully cooked together. Another important point is pricing. The dishes are on the expensive side, and at those prices, the flavors and overall quality should be excellent. When you're paying premium prices, you expect depth of seasoning, proper preparation, and attention to detail -- not cold buffet trays or under-marinated meat. Service was the bright spot of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly disappointing. With better attention to temperature, flavor development, and consistency, this place could justify its pricing -- but on this visit, it fell short.

We started with cauliflower Manchurian, onion pakoda, samosa chaat, and Chicken 65--everything came out fresh, crispy, and full of flavor. For the entrees, we tried the mixed meat platter, the curries were extremely delicious from madras, tikka, makhani to Kerala fish curry, and the Chettinad cashew coconut chicken curry with black pepper. Each dish was so flavorful fresh and the spices were so aromatic. The naan was excellent across the board--garlic, classic, cheese and especially the date Peshwari naan... SO delicious. Slightly sweet, soft, and honestly a must-order. Yum yum yum! We ended the meal with dessert & chai. Had the traditional dessert ras malai, gulab jamun, carrot halwa, and rabri a new dessert that the chef was making all with masala chai--such a warm, sweet and flavorful finish. The restaurant itself is spotless, modern, and inviting, with a relaxed upscale vibe that fits perfectly with its beachside surroundings. Plenty of parking makes it easy to pull in, settle down, and enjoy a proper meal without any hassle. We started off strong with the cauliflower Manchurian and onion pakoda--both came out fresh, hot, and perfectly crisp. You can tell right away when a kitchen respects texture, and they nailed it. The samosa chaat was layered with flavor, and the Chicken 65 brought just the right kick--crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and seasoned beautifully. For mains, we explored a bit, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed. The mixed meat platter was generous and well-balanced, the Kerala fish curry had that deep, coastal spice profile, and the cashew coconut chicken curry with black pepper had a rich, aromatic heat that lingered in the best way. Every dish carried depth--nothing tasted one-dimensional. Of course, no Indian meal is complete without naan, and both the garlic and regular versions were excellent. But the real standout? The Peshwari naan--slightly sweet from chopped dates, soft, and just indulgent enough to feel special. That alone is worth coming back for. The drink selection is another plus--they've got a solid lineup of wines, beers, and spirits if you're in the mood to pair your meal. And considering the quality and portion sizes, the pricing feels more than fair. We wrapped things up with a full spread of desserts--ras malai, gulab jamun, carrot halwa, and a warm cup of masala chai. Each one hit that comforting, traditional note you hope for at the end of a great Indian meal. This isn't just another Indian restaurant--it's a place that clearly cares about doing things right. Whether you're a local or just passing through between Jacksonville and Orlando, this is absolutely a stop worth making.
