My dad went here for lunch on Monday and brought some food for us. We had the vegetable korma, sweet lassi, and ras malai to take home. The vegetable korma was plentiful and basmati rice was included. The korma was creamy with the cashew paste and had an ample amount of tasty vegetables. The korma was also on the milder side, but still has some spices for me to enjoy. The rice was cooked nicely to enjoy the korma with. We also had some onion nan, which was pretty fluffy, and soft after putting it on the korma. The lassi was on the thicker side, but still very enjoyable as the the yogurt texture made the drink more authentic. The ras malai for dessert is always my favorite, and this was no exception as it was 4 ricotta cheese balls in a milky sauce that had a hint of rose flavor. All food and drinks were very satisfying. I ordered takeout from here on the way home from yoga. I ordered 2 chicken tikka masalas, samosas, and garlic naan. While I don't eat at the restaurant, the inside was very nice. I would love to come back and dine in. They were making fresh naan when I arrived, so I had time to interact with the staff. Multiple people came to check on me in the short time I was waiting. They were all very nice. The food was so good! This may have been the best Indian food I've had in the Winter Garden/Clermont area! The chicken tikka was flavorful and delicious, even though I only got mild. (They have an array of spice levels for all of the dishes. We have been craving Indian food since we moved here. I found Guru on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. The popadom was presented like we would expect chips and salsa. No other Indian restaurant has brought them out like this. Very nice touch. I had butter chicken (medium spice) and my husband had chicken tikka biryani (medium spice). We shared garlic naan. The spice was nice and not overpowering. I will try hot next time to compare. I'm a spicy kinda girl but not so much that it overpowers the whole dish. We had leftovers and do not usually take them with us but it was enough for lunch and we all know Indian food is amazing the next day! First time at Guru in Clermont. We left happy, filled with delicious food and a great experience. This is a hidden gem in an old shopping area. It's on the first floor, so depending on where you park, you can walk in and see it or you may have to walk downstairs. There is an elevator if needed. The restaurant is filled with vibrant colors and has such a friendly staff. Everyone seemed so willing to help us. I had seen the menu online so I knew what I wanted to try. I came with two others, one of which has not always been willing to try Indian food. I think this restaurant changed his mind! We ordered garlic nan, delicious although it had a few burned spots but was filled with flavor. We also ordered classics: chicken tikka masala and butter chicken, both had a medium spice level and were so flavorful! Delicious. My husband got the beef bhuna - Chunks of beef cooked with sliced onions, green pepper, fresh herbs and spices - level 4 of 5, quite spicy! He loved it. I am a longterm Clermont resident, and never really tried Indian food until my son took me to another, newer Indian restaurant here in town a couple of months ago (review to follow). That wonderful experience made me open to giving Guru a try recently. I brought my BFF with me, who isn't much of an Indian food fan. I convinced her I was sure there were a couple of nonspicy dishes that she should like, so we gave it a try. They had some tables outside which we opted for, as it was a beautiful night and the restaurant itself seemed a tad on the cold side. We were greeted, seated, and offered some very crispy chickpea strips called pappadams with whole cumin seeds embedded in them. They were served with a mango chutney and some chopped onions that were coated in something red. We liked the mango and onions, but BFF wasn't a fan of the cumin seeds. I asked where I could find their curry on the menu; shrimp curry is my new fave. The owner directed me to Shrimp Bhuna. I asked for extra veggies in it, too. My friend ordered Butter Chicken which is breast meat in a tomato cream sauce, and we also ordered some Butter Naan to go with it. Our food came out rather quickly, and we noticed that our food had no salt added to it whatsoever. Both of us had to put copious amounts of salt onto our entrees to get them to have some flavor. The Butter Chicken was tasty, though the chicken was a bit dry. My Shrimp Bhuna, though, was not anything I was expecting. It had a flat, one note flavor that was very disappointing. I'm not sure if this is one of the dishes that they point you to when you don't want something overly spicy; but lack of spice shouldn't translate to a lack of any nuance in flavor. The prices are pretty steep, too. When I go to the other Indian restaurant, I have enough for two meals which makes it more economical. I really wasn't interested in bringing any home and neither was my friend. The Naan bread was nice and chewy, with generous pieces. All in all, if this had been my first toe dip into the world if Indian food, it unfortunately would be my last. This is our go-to Indian restaurant near Clermont, hands down. The restaurant is in a busy area but slightly hard to find spot, so drive around a bit and follow the signs to find it. The restaurant itself is small and intimate with indoor and outdoor seating options. The servers are quick and happy to offer recommendations, if you need them. The food is absolutely delicious--and the portions are huge. Go ready to feast! We started with the non-veg mixed appetizer, which I highly recommend. (We've also had the veg mixed appetizer, which is also delightful!) My husband order the guru biryani and I had the malai kofta--so good!! We got everything with naan, of course, which really isn't necessary due to the generous helping of rice offered with the malai kofta. However, the naan is so good that you're missing out if you skip it. Trust me, get the naan! They are careful with the spiciness and happy to guide you. I like some spice, so I went with medium. It was perfect for me, and my husband said he had no problems with his either (he also went medium). Consult with them if this is a concern, and they will help you navigate the best spice level. We left happily full with leftovers to enjoy for several days of lunches. A Clermont staple and I always come here after a break up! It's so comforting and always hits. The portions are pretty big so it's good to get a couple things to share and still have enough for leftovers so you can mend your broken heart at home afterwards. All of the servers are so nice and attentive always checking in to see if we need anything. I tell all of my friends not from Clermont about this place because honestly no one can compare! I am actually impressed! This place was really good. As a vegetarian, there are so many options for both vegan and vegetarian ! Partly why I love Indian food, the other part is the taste. Menu: I love how they listed out which dishes were either vs me having to ask which is what for each dish and everything is in separate categories! This made it much easier to decide what to eat! Dinning room: There's plenty of indoor seating and outdoor seating. All the tables are lined with white linen table clothes and already preset with water glasses, sharing plates and silverware so it gives off a set dinning feel. The food itself: I got the vegetable bhuna with light spice and onion garlic naan. First off, their naan!!!!! So so so good! Their naan is some of the best naan I've tasted. It was so fresh, so light and had a decent amount of seasoning on it. It says "clay oven Indian bread," so I presume a tandoor oven! It was cooked to perfection! I really want to try their other naans. The bhuna was served with basmati rice. A little more spice than I expected for light spice. But it was still really good!! I can see it being "too spicy" for those who are sensitive to spicy but if you enjoy spicy, they also have medium, hot and fire. Price: the food is a bit pricey! The good thing is, although my meal was $25, there was enough for a second meal (at least for me). The break down ends up being around $12.5 for 2 meals (which is standard). Though, if you're dinning with multiple people, it would be great for sharing! Service: there was a lot of staff but everyone was very nice and attentive! Visiting family for my husband's birthday and Guru's came highly recommended. We are VERY picky about our Indian food and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and ingredients. And being that our son & daughter in law had never tried Indian cuisine, we wanted to ensure their dining experience was above bar! Gurus is definitely family owned and the decor, service and attentiveness of the staff made this apparent. The drink menu consists of wine, beer, Indian drinks and soft drinks. With our drink order in we also decided to start with some vegetarian Samosas and an onion bhaji. Both appetizers were cooked perfect with the spices inside the samosas balanced right and the serving sauces for the onion bhaji bringing a nice herb flavor. For our main course, we ordered chicken tandoori (bone in), butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and chicken tiki masala. Oh yes, an order of garlic and regular naan to soak up all those good sauces! Since our family had never had Indian, they were very happy! We, too, were quite pleased with the quality, price and serving sizes. What a gem Clermont has in its backyard! So glad to have found this spot, as I had a craving for paneer Tikka masala. I ordered mine medium, but will try spicy next time. Portion was good, with leftovers for tomorrow. Went last night with my husband and friends. We were all excited about trying Indian food for the first time! We were seated and our very nice server gave us information on their popular dishes, spice levels, types of naan etc... The four of us ordered different dishes so we could share a taste of each. We had Butter Chicken (no spice), Beef Saag Wala (mild spice), Mango Chicken (mild spice) and Chicken Buna. Every dish was so good! The onion naan and the garlic naan were very fresh and delish. Today I had a group of 11 ladies come here for lunch. Most of them were very unaware of Indian food. This was their first ever, however because of the server they will be back. She helped them with the menu and assured them, they will enjoy the food. For my part, I was pleased to turn that over to another person that was quite capable of explaining the items of choice. There are great weight staff here and you won't have to worry about how spicy or anything about the food they will guide you. I would highly recommend this place to anybody that has never had Indian food, but would like to try it. You will have a great experience. I highly recommend Guru Restaurant! They serve excellent food (including vegan and vegetarian options) that is made with care, well worth the cost, and served by friendly people in a relaxing environment. My spouse and I first enjoyed their food back on Saint Patrick's Day, when I picked up dinner to go. I didn't realize there is an Irish pub nearby, but there is plenty of parking for all the businesses. Although the dining room and patio seating were full and there were several other to go orders being picked up, the service at Guru Restaurant was prompt and friendly. The food was thoughtfully packaged and the portions were generous. We enjoyed garlic naan, vegetable samosa, Bombay aloo, and vegetable biryani. As big fans of spice and hot sauce but slightly cautious about having a spicy dinner too close to sleep, we found medium spice level just right. We returned this week at lunchtime to dine in for my birthday, and we were so appreciative to receive a complimentary entree and mango ice cream delivered with a candle and song. The crispy chips on the table were an excellent accompaniment to the bullet naan, mango chicken (which was kindly prepared at our request without onions and green peppers), and aloo palak. We tried the garlic naan, the chicken vindaloo, and the saag paneer. All of our dishes came out quickly and were hot and fresh. I ordered the chicken vindaloo hot spice level, and it had a nice kick that I would describe as more of a medium. This is the best Indian food I have EVER had!! The food was so seasoned but not salty at all. I truly had no idea food could be this AMAZING. The naan was so GREAT and they mixed two flavours together for us. Not only was the food incredible but the service was also superb! We have visited Guru a handful of times. We have gone as a family and with neighbors. Each time we have gone, we have said we need to go back more often. The service is very attentive without being overbearing. The staff shares the duties of taking care of diners, so we had 2 or 3 different people check on us throughout the meal. The servers also make sure that the spice level is right. The restaurant offers multiple levels of heat. When someone orders, they ask how hot you want it. They made sure my kids didn't get more than they wanted. Everything we have ordered has been delicious. The portions are generous enough that we usually have leftovers. I first have to admit that I have never had the pleasure of dining at Guru in person: I didn't discover it until after I moved out of Clermont, and I rarely am in that area. But someday I will make the pilgrimage to Clermont to visit the place that has brought me so much food joy. To explain to you how superior Guru Restaurant is to other Indian food options, I will not describe to you the specifics of the food (it's all great--you can't go wrong) but will instead tell you about two times I cried over Guru. The first time was after I got home from a business trip. My plane from JFK to MCO got turned around 30 minutes into the flight and then we got stuck at JFK for 6 hours. The whole time I was thinking about how I couldn't wait to get home and order Guru on Uber Eats. The samosas were calling my name. When we got home, we were devastated to find that Uber Eats would no longer deliver Guru to our home (at that time, in Windermere). Deeply sad but very hungry, we decided to try a different place. When my paneer dish arrived, I took a bite only to discover it was chicken, not paneer. I cried because I knew Guru would NEVER do that to me. Guru has a fantastic selection of vegetarian dishes and they ALWAYS get the order perfectly correct. The second time I cried over Guru was this past Saturday evening. My parents were coming to visit (at our new home, Orlando). We hadn't had Guru in a very long time due to the distance. My mom mentioned that they had stopped in Clermont for dinner but were about to leave and head our way. I asked where they ate and my mom, oblivious, said "Guru." I absolutely lost my mind and started BEGGING her to bring us samosas (and paneer, and roti). Blessedly, she agreed and sat back down to order us takeout. She insisted it would be cold (but I knew better--Guru packages their to-go orders phenomenally). When my parents arrived with the food, my wife and I stood in the kitchen and ate it right away. It was still the perfect temperature and just as delicious as I remembered. I can't remember if I've ever cried happy tears over a meal before, but I did that night. Thank you Guru!!! read more
