It really raised the experience of this place during what could've been a relatively stressful situation. Dirty Horchata - I was hoping for a stronger horchata taste. It's not bad, so it was worth the shot! Just grateful it wasn't too sweet. My BFF felt the same, as we're both horchata fiends from growing up in Chicago. Cherry Cider - The cider has a tangy taste. The cherry flavor isn't as strong, but it's a fragrant drink. The flavor slowly became sweeter the more I drank it. It grew on me, but it wouldn't be my go-to unless I knew I was munching on something salty that night. Violet Blueberry Blonde - My favorite of the two. This one has a tamer flavor with a nicer floral note. It was exactly what I asked for. I felt like I could've easily chugged a few of these. The guy at the counter definitely chose a great pick. I love the low-key ambiance of this place, the peaceful nighttime atmosphere, the fact that it's wedged into a cozy nook, and how it isn't so LOUD like many bars. Didn't get bit by a mosquito while we hung out there for an hour, so that's a huge plus. They were probably chewing on my friends' legs too intently to consider me, though. Tons of outdoor and patio seating, a few tables indoors in the AC. I ordered the Flapjack, hot, with double espresso in a larger cup, with half sweetness (effectively a large with less services). Delicious saltiness and cinnamon! I really enjoyed this. I tried the honey lavender latte which they said was the least sweet of their fort favorites. The lavender flavor was very forward and there was a hint of sweetness on the back of the tongue, so very accurate. I didn't get as much coffee flavor here so maybe double espresso if that's important to you. Friends also tried the seasonal coconut macadamia latte (they said it was nice, like a sweet nutty flavor). Really solid coffee spot with great vibes, I'd come back.

My friend and I stopped in for a night cap after having dinner nearby. Codependent is on the first floor of The Independent (aka The Tetris Building or The Jenga Tower). The decor caught my eye immediately. Even though it was night time, the space had a light airy feel to it. Chair swings, plants, earth tones, etc. I felt transformed into some sort of oasis. We were warmly greeted by the staff. Calvrett explained the menu and made suggestions based on our preferences. The 007 caught my eye. I love a good Vesper and was in the mood for a martini. My friend couldn't decide so she asked Calvrett if he could make a Chocolate Martini. He asked her a few questions on her taste preferences and in no time, whipped up a cocktail. My Vesper was good and smooth and my friend enjoyed her Chocolate Martini. Her drink looked like dessert in a glass. We started discussing espresso martinis when another bartender overheard us. Out of nowhere he set down two mini espresso martini samples for us to try. I try not to drink coffee (including coffee cocktails) too late in the evening, but I couldn't resist. It was so good! In that moment, I wished I would have had more time to enjoy a full sized one. If you happen to be there on a Monday, take advantage of their $10 espresso martini special! If feels like, you might be beamed up any second, i.e. beam me up Scotty (Star Trek reference)! Calvrett (he spelled it for us 3X, so hopefully I spelled it correctly), was a great bartender! He took ample time to understand what we want to drink even though the bar was going to close soon. My friend settled on the 007, which was a bit alcohol forward. I had a chocolate martini, which he made perfectly. Calvrett heard us talking about an expresso martini and he provided us a complimentary miniature Espresso martini, which apparently is one of their signature drinks and quite robust. I just hope they allow folks to enjoy them in a proper martini glass outside but I understand the justification behind it. The team here is super nice and they currently don't offer food but you can bring in a street dog from an adjacent vendor they've decided to work with.
