I'm surprised I never wrote about this place since I frequent it quite a bit. This is probably the first halal Thai restaurant I've come across, so I very much appreciate that. I really like the quality of the food here. It's comparable to some good authentic thai restaurants in the city. I ordered my items through Doordash (2 buck delivery fee, not bad): Chicken curry puff pastry- I love these. By far my favorite appetizer! They also give a condiment to go with it, which I didn't really like (it's like pepper, onions, etc. in diluted water or something??) Pad Kee Mao- I've ordered this in the past. It is definitely good BUT as some reviews mentioned, they do skimp on ingredients. In this case, it was the rice noodle itself: Way too many veggies Pad Thai- I had the chicken pad Thai. It's very good and the proportions are big. The chicken part isn't anything special but they don't charge you more for it, so might as well have it. Chicken thai fried rice- it's pretty good but I've seen other places have more flavor. Again, chicken isn't a deal breaker here but it won't set youck or anything from ordering it. I kind of wish they gave soy sauce or hot sauce as a condiment. The rice alone wasn't really doing it for me. Upon arrival to pick up my order in the restaurant I did not receive a warm welcome or a thank you for coming. Basically your regular customer service anthem. Also, for the price of how much I spent, I received very little food. I was disappointed and not satisfied. There were no lime wedges in any of the noodle dishes. The restaurant is owned and run by a Muslim Family from Thailand. Having spent time in Thailand, Bangkok we are familiar with the Authentic Taste and this Restaurant cones close to providing the taste of Eating in Thailand. We ordered Tom Yum soup with Shrimps, the soup was decent however it included only 3 pieces of shrimps which we find it to be "stingy"! The Green Curry with Chicken was awesome !!! Hands down gives you an Authentic taste of Thailand Green Curry ... Thailand Iced Tea was alright, could have been better. Maybe less ice, next time I will definitely try lychee Ice Tea. Drunken Noodles with chicken was good but not great. The Service was Excellent, the chef came to ask us how we liked the food. I placed an order for pick up yesterday, my first time ordering from this place. I ordered pineapple fried rice with a side order of fried calamari. Was so excited! Until I got home and opened my bag. The pineapple rice had no pineapple, and had big chunks of tomatoes and the calamari were totally disgusting, not sure if it was calamari or something else, had no taste, texture was rough And the color very odd. After a coworker recommended that I try this place, I turned to Yelp for a little insight! I live in the neighborhood and got super excited that a nearby Thai place actually opened! My friend and I got here around 6pm on a Wednesday night. Parking in this area is usually a mess but it was surprisingly easy to find. Upon arrival, there was only a party of 2 and the server seated us at a table. About 15 mins in she came back and took our orders. A few minutes later, she brought our drinks then our food. I got the basil fried rice with shrimp and asked for it to be spicy. My fried got the veggie duck with veggies and white rice. The basil fried rice was bland in comparison to other thai food i've had. I'm A HUGE FAN OF THAI. I've tried countless restaurants so my opinion might be bias. If you're new to the whole thai experience, this dish would be a "wow, so good" for you. In my opinion, it lacked flavor... and it was not spicy, at all! My friend's veggie duck was also bland. There was nothing special about it but it did come with lots of sweet peppers and onions. If you're just getting lunch or something basic, go for it. Otherwise, it's a pass for me. SUCH a great place. Clean, cute decorations and its spacious enough. The service was great- the chef brought out some of the dishes to us since it wasn't so busy- such a nice touch! The lollipop chicken is always on point. They have a variety of options (although their lunch menu is a bit limited). We ordered the beef drunken noodles (10/10!!) and the red pepper fried rice with chicken. It wasn't as flavorful, will be ordering a different kind next time. You cannot beat the price of this restaurant, you just can't. If you're looking for affordable and good quality of food this is the place for you. My friends and i came in a party of 4 we were seated and ordered. This Thai is a little different from other places I've been but honestly still really good. I love good deals and this was great. The only thing i would comment on is the lack of service, there was only one person serving the entire restaurant which was a little difficult to deal with when on a time crunch. I've had food from Amina delivered to my apartment and most recently ate at the restaurant. I think the food and service is pretty good. Warning: their food is very spicy. I ordered the Drunken Noodle and once asked for the Pad Thai spicy. Wowsers... I like spicy food, but this is a little out of control. Now I ask for it mild, and on occasion I get it spicy. The shrimp appetizer are pretty good too. The spring rolls are ok. As for some of the other reviews, I think reviewing this place based on their delivery guy is pretty unfair. I went there during Ramadan a couple of days ago for iftaar, and I was quite disappointed. My friend and I were craving Thai food and this one of the halal places I found which I heard good things about. But personally, I did not have an enjoyable experience with their customer service. First, the food was good. I got the sizzling chicken and the portion was quite generous and the spice level was good. The food was savory and fresh, overall a satisfying way to break the day's fast. The place is relatively small but it wasn't busy so we were seated very quickly. The server initially approached us twice to ask about the order but we were trying to decide. But eventually, the food took nearly 25 mins to come out. Afterwards, we needed something and we couldn't find out waitress for the longest time. It was really frustrating to wait around to get another jug of water. In addition, after finally receiving the check we waited another 10mins because the waitress was on the phone and did not even bother to look up at us to let us know to hold on or anything. If you have time to wait around then I would go there because the food was definitely good but I don't think it's the best thai food I've had. read more

went to amina thai today, not happy with the food quality and price point, i go to so many thai restaurants around nyc but the amount of food they serve on a certain price point is really way too less, i had the beef sizzling which is $15, came with a little white rice cup. i literally had 4 pieces of beef there, while even in an authentic Thai, quality restaurant i've had lot better. the lolipop chicken i had was served 4 pieces while the other restaurants in the hillside area servers 6 pieces, the quality was same. my wife had the pad thai noodle, it tasted mostly like spices. disappointed so far, even the nearby bengali restaurants were even better. service rating: 2.5/ 5, only saw our server twice, while she took the order and while she serverd, didn't even botherd to check on us or ask us if we need anything. in same price i can have good food and service in an american diner, unfortunately this is my first and last visit. read more

I have to echo the disappointing sentiments toward quality AND quantity here. After venturing out to pick up some spicy Thai on a cold snowy night, I landed on Amina. Although the staff was pleasant and service fast - a takeout order of soup, noodle, curry ready in 10 minutes (although the restaurant was empty due to the weather), every item of my order was prepared at nearly 1/3rd less quantity than any other Thai restaurant I've been to. The Tom Kha soup had a thin texture as if to dilute the coconut milk base, the Pad Kee Mao noodles housed 4 shrimp and hadn't reached level to the takeout container. The same with the Penang curry which was missing its share of kaffir lime or palm sugar. The quality would be passable at the lower price price point (~$8-11/curry or noodle), but when you're left craving a little more after your meal, you know something is off. Without getting Amina 'bout it, I don't think I will be back here, especially since I have a trustworthy Thai place in Nur a little further away, though YMMV. read more

So i ordered a yellow curry for pick up today and got almost nothing. 4 thinly sliced pieces of chicken breast swimming in almost no liquid, 3 pieces of carrots and about 5 pieces of potatoes were also in there. Amina Thai, billed as Chinese/Asian Fusion, opened sometime during the beginning of summer and while it was being constructed, I noticed that it had a very fancy neon sign, great all tinted windowed front and the tables and inside seemed nice compared to all the other crap in that area, and I mean crap. When it finally opened I went inside to pick up a menu and the staff seemed friendly and smiling (it was the first day, they should be), and the inside which had a very plain decor (too plain) was dimly lit with candles on the tables. Well I decided to give them a try. I am always leery about Halal Thai/Asian places, especially in Jamaica, the food tends to be too sweet and not always good and the service is usually down right bad. Hey folks, piece of advice, learn Customer Service 101 before you open a store/restaurant, you are no longer in the mother land where no one cares, you are now dealing with other cultures, some who actually expect good service, like ME. Well, I have to say that the food at Amina is very good and it is certainly great to have a Thai place right around the corner from me that is actually good and clean. I started off with the Avocado Mango Salad, which I really have not seen before. It was not only large but very tasty with all the various flavors coming together and had some kick too it. A nice combo of mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes and of course Avocado and Mango, lots of mango. It listed on the menu tofu, though I can't recall if there was any and looking today at the takeout menu you had a choice of either peanut dressing, ginger sauce or vinaigrette, although I do not recall my waitress of Asian decent (always smiling and friendly, if somewhat shy) asking me which one. She seemed to be new, with another one following her and her English was not very good (come on folks, if you are going to live here and especially work in customer service, E-N-G-L-I-S-H., you are dealing with various other cultures who speak English. Being Vegetarian, I ordered the Vegetarian Duck Basil, which was a big portion (if I was not so hungry, I would have taken half home), a combo of onions, bell peppers, string beans, carrots, bamboo in a basil sauce with veggie-duck (happy to see they have veggie duck, which many places do not always have). Anyway, the Vegetarian Duck Basil was very good, just a tad bit too salty for my taste (but then I am not a big salt person and am very sensitive to that). But there was nothing left on my plate, it was that good. I was thinking of dessert, which the actual menu and the take out menu had different items (HUH). Both had various ice cream, Fried Banana, Sticky Rice with Mango, but the take out had Tiramisu (odd choice for a Thai place, the other menu had Red Velvet Cake (another odd choice). My waitress told me the next time I come, I should try the Thai Tea. So since instead of dessert I opted for the Thai Iced Tea with Lychee and so damn glad I did. It was a dessert all by itself. A large glass of sweet Thai Tea with a layer of half and half on top of it, two pieces of lychee with some syrup. Extremely good. Now, well, not quite negatives, but let's say some constructive criticism. While the place is nice inside, they need to add a little more to the decor, put a little something on the plain walls, especially to help with the echo sound it has, acoustics please. I just recently found out that the owner (a very nice young man that I talked to for awhile) told me he is going to bring in someone to decorate. Also turn the lights down a bit and put some good use to all the candles on the tables and actually light them. Some low music would be nice. Bottom line, Amina Thai is very much worth a visit if you have a hunger for Thai and live in the area or nearby, especially considering there are hardly any good places in that area to go to. I read some of the other reviews here and half I think were made up, especially the negative ones. I do not think who even wrote those actually went to this place because it is not what I experienced and believe me I can be tough. If you are not good or your service is bad, I will say so. Just go try this place out for yourself. I know I will certainly be back and will also try the Afghan Kebab restaurant, which just opened two doors down and is owned by the same owners of Amina Thai. Nice gesture but they were greasy and the oil smelled slightly rancid. Got my food in a decent amount of time. Had chicken pad thai. It was okay. Nothing crazy. Second time ordered delivery. The delivery guy had attitude when I picked up to answer the door. Then at my apt door the creep demanded an extra dollar for tip. Literally, demanded. My husband and I LOVE Thai food. We couldn't go to our regular spot so we decided to give Amina Thai a try. I ordered drunken noodles with shrimp and my husband got drunken noodles with chicken. We also got the appetizer platter. The food came quickly, but when we opened the small bag we were taken aback. The portion was not a regular size for drunken noodles and it tasted like some of the ingredients were quite stale. There was some kind of stuff in the shrimp that had a very weird texture. I'd never had drunken noodles like this before and like I said we get this dish from MANY Thai restaurants. The apps were extremely dry and the chicken satay was definitely from another day. We couldn't even finish the food and enjoy dinner. It was bad. I know a lot of things have changed because of COVID-19, but I can never order from Amina Thai again. read more
