    Braised Oxtail Cheesestak Omelette

I stopped in Amina for their Saturday brunch on a short trip up to Philly. We arrived when the restaurant opened, so there was plenty of seating everywhere. As soon as you walk in, there's a Photo Booth if you would like to create a memory of your time there. This place is perfect for either a brunch outing with your friends or a nice dinner with your significant other. Just aside, I love the concept that the owner has for all of her restaurants in terms of naming them after each one of her children. I think it is a wonderful concept. We were promptly greeted and seated by our server, Maria, who answered all of our questions in reference to the history of the restaurant, the owner, and the other restaurants as well is answering all of our questions about the menu, allowing us to make informed decisions about what we decided to order. She also checked on us frequently during our meal. I went with the oxtail cheesesteak omelette, which comes with toast and home fries. If you are not drinking, they do have a mocktail list which I don't remember the name of the drink itself, but it is made with ginger beer. My omelette was absolutely delicious. I cannot remember the last time I cleaned an entire plate, but here I definitely ate and left no crumbs. The omelette had plenty of oxtail in it and everything was perfectly seasoned. I am definitely adding this to my list of brunch places in Philly and I definitely want to come back here to try their dinner options as well. Highly recommend and I cannot wait to return.

Happy I got to check out Amina while visiting Philly. We stopped by for brunch one Saturday afternoon right in the middle of a ice and snow storm so it was pretty chill and laid back. I was told that it's usually jam packed and energetic but I was grateful for the calm that day. It's a beautiful and welcoming black owned restaurant. I couldn't get enough of the beautiful art and decor throughout the space that added to it's warmth and personality. Our server was sweet and accommodating which we both appreciated. I kept it simple and ordered a cheeseburger and fries and I also tried the deviled eggs. Everything was pretty good. The burger and the fries were seasoned well and tasty. The deviled eggs had a sprinkle of beef bacon on top that gave it a bust of flavor. Overall had a good time at Amina. I would love to come back and be a little more adventurous with the menu next time. lol

Park across the street in the plaza lot if there isnt legal street parking available. Anf pay attention to the time because there is definitely someone checking license plates. We made reservations and had a shirt wait. The decor is beautiful, afrocentric. I love the big photo as soon as you walk in. Our server was attentive and paid attention to our table when we were low on drinks and simple just to check in. She was very helpful with dinner selections and overall friendly and down to earth. Drinks: Princess Warrior was good, and not to strong and Aminas crown was good also (didnt try it as I dont like passionfruit but was told it was really good). Overall the drinks were an 8. Appetizer: I was expecting a traditional shrimp taco, that is not what I received and I was a bit skeptical but after the 1st bite I was hooked. It was packed with flavor, I couldn't even tell what the shell was made of but it was something fried. The cheesesteak beignets were perfect. The beignets were nice and soft, 1st bite the cheese came out and got a nice flavorful amout of steak to go with it. The devil eggs, were also perfect, we added shrimp to oura. Felt like I was at someone's granny's house after church. Meals: Out of all the meals we all really liked the picnic basket. It really comes out in a picnic basket and this was scored 10/10. The braised Oxtails were tender, falling off the bones and had good flavor. The yams were sweet and good but definitely not what I was expecting with the Oxtails. The smothered turkey wings were good but we really liked the brussel sprouts more than anything and the salmon was good. Dessert: Vanilla ice actually came with a big ole pie. The caramelized apple spring roll was great but could've used some ice cream with it. The banana pudding was really good, old school banana pudding. Some were saying that it tasted like the bananas were caramelized with liquor. Everything here was good and has me eager to return and try their full menu.

First of all, the ambience is stunning. From the wall art, to the seating and the accents as soon as we walked in it just felt welcoming. We had the smoked Lima bean hummus -which was delicious, along with the warm cornbread (yum). For our entrees we both ordered the turkey wings and baybeeee, when I saw that platter was ALL THAT! The wings were flavored to perfection and the meat was falling off the bones, you hear me? It came with diced sweet patties and Brussels sprouts which complimented the meal perfectly. I usually eat all of my food (bc I'm greedy) but I just couldn't finish this time. So I had leftovers for lunch. When I tell you I cleaned them wings down to the bone (see photo). The seasoning was all up and through them babies. I cannot wait to return.

The food here is quite good, and the decor is beautiful with a great music playlist, but the service left quite a bit to be desired! Our group of 6 arrived for our reservation, and the friendly hostess was able to get our table prepped for us within an insignificant amount of time. Our server came and took our orders. After this, it all went downhill. The entrees came out piecemeal, so it was one of those things where everyone is awkwardly waiting around until everyone gets their food while your own food gets cold. On top of that, waffles came out without syrup or butter, home fries and toast came out without condiments, and our server was no where to be found so we had to flag down random employees to request condiments, silverware, or just to tell them to find our server so that we could place an order for more drinks. At one point, she brought out the bill and the entire table was confused, as no one had requested it and we still wanted to place orders for drinks and desserts. When we finally did request the bill, pay via the QR code on the receipt (which showed a $0 balance), and left, the server finally ran out of the restaurant to flag us down, claiming we still had a balance on our bill. It was the fastest I had seen her move all day. Regarding the food and drinks, I enjoyed every item I ate. The oxtail omelette was good and the collard greens are phenomenal. My drinks were also delicious. Overall, the service left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I'm not sure the food overcompensated enough to go through that again.

My husband surprised me with reservations to Amina's and it did not disappoint! The ambiance is amazing. The decor was just my style. The service was exemplary, and the food just sealed the deal! Everyone in my party enjoyed their drinks and meals. The cheesesteak beignets were to die for!! Chicken wings slamming. I cannot say enough things about our experience here!

This place is a hidden gem. Came here on a Saturday around noon for brunch. Love the decor, this place is trendy, chic and nice ambience. Staff was nice and attentive! It was mostly empty though! The food was creative and delicious! I had the Amina omlet, my husband had the oxtail cheesesteak omlet and my daughter had the chicken and red velvet waffles. We all loved our food. The omlets were generous, the side potatoes were well-seasoned and the cocktails done very well! The chicken was beautifully extra crispy. I definitely want to return to try more items.

My family and I came here to celebrate a graduation. I've been wanting to try it and was not disappointed. The braised oxtails are delicious! Cornbread was warn and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised by the black eyed pea dip. That may have been a favorite appetizer for the table. The restaurant was beautifully Afrocentric. Service was pleasant and helpful.

Amina is a gorgeous, black-owned restaurant serving elevated comfort food with real personality. The decor sets the vibe immediately -- warm lighting, rich textures, modern details, and an ambiance that feels intentionally stylish without being pretentious. Here's how everything landed for me: Rib - 10/10 Tender, perfectly seasoned, and falling off the bone. A true standout. Oxtail - 8/10 Rich, flavorful, and comforting. Mac & Cheese - 7.5/10 Creamy and cheesy with good texture. Could use a bit more seasoning or crisp to take it all the way. Fries - 10/10 Shockingly good. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Sweet Potato Purée - 6/10 Flavor was fine, but the texture wasn't my favorite. Scallops & Corn Brûlée - 9/10 Beautifully cooked scallops with a corn brûlée that absolutely stole the show -- sweet, savory, silky perfection. Fried Chicken - 8/10 Crispy, juicy, and satisfying. Cheesesteak Beignets - 10/10 Soft, savory, creative, and absolutely delicious. Peri Peri Wings - 10/10 Bold, spicy, smoky, and perfectly sauced. Finger-licking in the classiest way possible. Jalapeño Cornbread - 8/10 Moist with a nice kick. Could use a touch more heat, but still very good. Overall: Amina is that girl, and I'd give her a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The space is gorgeous, the service is warm, and most dishes really hit. A few plates could use small tweaks, but I'd absolutely come back -- this place is a gem.

Travelled to Philadelphia for a national conference and our state group met here for a group dinner. Super vibey. I loved the decor. We were seated quickly even though only part of our group reservation had arrived. But it did take a while for someone to take drink orders and bring water to the table. This was expected because I had checked the reviews but unfortunate. Once everyone was seated and orders were in... another wait. Once food was there, I didn't hear anyone complain about their order and the folks with the salmon were very complimentary. I had the peanut stew dish and it was everything I recall about eating a similar dish my Godmother who lived in Ghana for a bit used to make. Just nutty creamy spicy yummy. I also had a delicious mocktail with lemonade. Given their flexible policies (seating and billing) and multiple seating options (large booths and tables) I would highly recommend for groups who aren't in a rush and just want to leisurely chat it up and be out for a bit.

We went to Amina last evening to douse my husband's southern food cravings. We ordered the cornbread skillet, braised oxtails, and Nigerian hot chicken sandwich along with a round of cocktails. I thought the food was average at best. Cornbread was soft but there was no freshness to it. The oxtail meat was tender and juicy but lacked flavor. It seemed to me that the just served premade food on the plate without even warming it up. The cocktails took a long time to and were served after we were done eating the cornbread and while we were halfway done with the mains. Pretty sure I have never been to a place before where they bring the drinks last. The drinks weren't even fancy looking and the place wasn't packed so not sure what the hold up was. The most disappointing thing was we still had drinks on the table and a little bit of fries (that came with the hot chicken sandwich), that we were munching on, when the server just shoved the check on the table and took the fries away without asking. I did not even get a chance to stop her and I didn't want to yell after her because there were other patrons in the room. The AC or ventilation need to be checked because it was hot and suffocating inside.

Dining out is more than just for nourishment, especially at the premium level. It's an ensemble of the ambience, energy, staff and yes the food. It should come together as a total experience. Amina has checks all the boxes, not just by their already loyal fan base from their prior Olde City location, but also the new base following what they've created at their new location in Northern Liberties. The upscale, yet warm welcome grertting you get if you're lucky may actually be from Felisha Wilson, the owner of not just Amina, but from other premium southern dining experiences around the city like Avana, First Daughter, Fia, Black Hen and others. Bartenders, Tiffany, Kashya and Asia each delivers a welcoming warmth as well as an experience in carefully crafted cocktails. Their attention to detail shows when you return a month later and not only they remember you , but also what you last ordered. They should though be aware of how long sometimes a kitchen order takes to arrive not only delayed, but sometimes arriving warm or even cold rather than hot. Amina is a welcome breath of a mature relaxing break from Northern Liberties sometimes over stimulated nightlife and dining. I hope they remain a needed area retreat.

Was super excited about coming to Amina for Center City Restaurant Week and had a really good time. This place was packed from wall to wall with diners so that really added to the excitement. Food was good. A diverse menu with plenty of optionality to build your preferred courses. I went with the Peri Peri Wings, Seafood Pot Pie, and Banana Pudding for dessert. All very flavorful, well seasoned, well portioned. I'll be thinking about those wings for a while. The staff felt a little impolite throughout the dinner.

My husband, originally from Philadelphia, had heard great things about South and wanted to check it out. Our visit was a bit last-minute and we didn't have a reservation, but the front-of-house staff was incredibly accommodating, and we were seated without much of a wait. The place is cute - not super fancy but also not too casual. For my entrée, I ordered the Sweet & Spicy Crispy Duck Breast with peach demi-glace, haricot verts, and brown sugar mashed sweet potatoes. The duck breast was excellent--perfectly cooked medium with great flavor. The mashed sweet potatoes were good, though not quite as sweet or flavorful as I expected, so I didn't eat much of them. My husband ordered the Low Country Catfish & Gulf Shrimp with cornmeal-fried catfish, sautéed shrimp, broccolini, collard pesto rice, and tomato-okra sauce. He absolutely raved about every bite and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. However, the true stars of the meal were the sides. The Freshly Baked Skillet Cornbread with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter and the Classic Mac & Cheese made with a blend of four cheeses and sweet cream custard were phenomenal. Both came out piping hot and incredibly flavorful--so good that just thinking about them makes me want to go back for more. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience and would definitely recommend South. Pro tip: They also offer live music with dinner service in a separate room. Don't make our mistake--be sure to make a reservation if you want to enjoy that part of the experience! As he stepped outside, I asked my husband to check if he wanted something to eat. When my husband came back, he told me he had given him money. While that was kind, I honestly would have preferred to get him food myself just to make sure he actually ate. A few minutes later, the man came back in and sat at the counter. At first, I didn't see anyone approach him, but shortly after, the staff brought him a bag with food. I'm not sure if he ordered through the take out window then came in, paid the waiter, or if it was provided to him, but either way, it meant a lot to see. He took his food and left. At one point, I even heard a staff member ask if he had received his juice, which made me think this wasn't their first interaction with him. In a world where people are often overlooked or dismissed, it meant a lot to see a business show simple human kindness. Treating people with dignity and empathy shouldn't be rare--but unfortunately, it often is. For that alone, Honey's Sit 'n Eat deserves recognition. Oh... and the food is always great!

This is my new go-to for chicken & waffles. Concise, excellent beer selection. And interesting, well-made cocktails. The banana cream pie is one of my favorite desserts anywhere. Staff is friendly. We ordered the crispy cheese curds (Wisconsin cheddar, smoked guajillo salsa, and charred scallion ranch). These were a unique take on the classic and I was here for it, definitely try these! I then had the wedge salad (blue cheese, nueske's bacon, cherry tomatoes, radish, pepitas, crispy onions, and thai basil goddess). There were no tomatoes on ours, and so we were given sliced avocado instead. This was an interesting attempt but not my favorite take on this dish, I probably would not get this again. However, the shrimp po boy buns came through to round off this meal! (crispy shrimp, smoky aioli, house made choppy chop, dill on two buttered potato rolls.) These were fantastic and absolutely fire. NOTE they are tiny, almost appetizer sized, which didnt bother me because after the salad and cheese curds I was feeling full already but I would go back and get two orders just for myself they were that good. All in all a great place, I recommend!

I def appreciate that the food comes altogether, you already get your sides and not really nickle and dimed for it. The food: the jerk chicken was okay. It had good flavor but it was dry and lacked salt. The whole meal lacked salt. The collards were pretty basic and I know those yams were from the can but okay. Also, def not "rice and peas" but I did find a bean in my rice so rice and beans I guess. I can't lie I won't be coming back but if you're taste buds are with it go for it.

There was a 25 minute wait and it is small inside, with only a little bench, so I would recommend calling ahead or placing your order ahead of the time online to prevent waiting like I did. The wait though was well worth it! The tofu was crispy and really well-seasoned/packed with flavor. The collard greens were soft and well-seasoned as well. And the yams were so tasty! For me, sometimes yams are too sweet but I felt these yams perfectly balanced the jerk seasoning on the tofu. This meal lasted me ~3 meals because it was very filling with the rice and sides. I highly recommend Sheba's and I am excited to go back to try more food options there soon!

The menu was pretty interesting with some fusion items and comfort foods. Dutch Baby - They described this as kind of a steamed pancake and it was pretty tasty. Besides being piping hot, it had the best chewy eggy texture and reminded me of a popover. It wasn't too sweet and got most of the flavor from the berries and light syrup on top. Pork Katsu Breakfast Sandwich - This one sounded the most interesting to us and it came with the pork katsu, egg, aioli and arugula. The chicken was crispy and light and I really enjoyed the sweet brioche bun but it could have used a bit more sauce. The thin crisp fries on the sides were nice too. Overall, we really enjoyed their brunch dishes and do want to come back to try some of their other more popular items like the french toast banana foster that ran out that day.
