The edamame was standard, and the takoyaki and pan-fried dumplings didn't taste homemade. Rather they both reminded me of what you would pick up at the frozen section at the food market. Nevertheless, they were passable. After all, we were here for the ramen. I opted in for their Terakawa special. The broth was flavourful, and the chashu was the most tender and juicy chashu I've ever had. As for the girlfriend, she opted in for their spicy ramen which was also spectacular. I absolutely loved her wavy noodles. I would have loved to have swapped out my straight noodles for her wavy noodles. They have a nice bounce and slightly chewy texture. Came here for a Friday night dinner because I was craving Japanese takeout. I pass by Terakawa Ramen all the time, so I figured it was finally time to give it a try! When I arrived, the restaurant was very busy, and the space itself was pretty small. Thankfully, they have a self-service kiosk to join the dine-in waitlist and another kiosk specifically for takeout orders. The ordering process was simple and straightforward, but unfortunately, the wait was quite long. Despite ordering relatively simple dishes, my food took about 30 minutes to prepare. There also wasn't anywhere to sit or wait inside, so I ended up standing outside for the entire 30 minutes. For my appetizer, I ordered the mini chicken curry, which was pretty good! The curry had that classic Japanese curry flavor I was looking for, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken included, especially for an appetizer-sized portion. For my entree, I went with the gyudon, which was also pretty solid. The beef was a little fattier than I expected, and I felt that the rice-to-meat ratio was slightly off, with significantly more rice than beef. However, the overall flavor was good, and it definitely satisfied my craving for a Japanese rice bowl. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would definitely consider coming back to try their ramen, especially since that's what they're known for. My biggest complaint was the takeout experience. I really like how they add tomato and lettuce with a yummy spicy mayo sauce instead of just plain pork inside a bao bun. Pork was very slightly overcooked but it was still super good. Signature Terakawa Ramen: (4/5) I think I did myself a disservice by hyping up this place with the good reviews and expected to be blown away by this ramen. Don't get me wrong, it was good ramen, but it didn't blow me out of the water. It has a really nice creamy pork bone broth that is very comforting on a rainy day but I wish it had a little more flavor to it. Great Ramen and apps! Intimate space - perfect for couples or dining solo. The ramen was delicious - the miso broth was perfect for us but I always order mine spicy. Been multiple times. Hands down our favorite ramen in the city. It's easier to get a seat for one or two at the bar. But if you go with a bigger group you can always sign onto the waitlist and walk around Chinatown until your table is ready. I like the spicy ramen with shredded pork. But all are really good. My son says their Shami is some of the best this coming from someone who loves Asian Cuisine and has eaten around the world it comes as a high compliment. Our favorite ramen spot in all of Philly. Everything is delicious. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Sometimes it's a wait, but always worth it. We love seeing the same people whenever we go. We both get the Mayu or the Terakawa ramen, extra egg, extra pork, then load that up with sesame seeds, seasame oil, vinegar, chili oil, and garlic. Shrimp shumai is a must (that sauce is BANGING), along with pork bao buns (we get steamed/soft), and if we're feeling extra hungry we'll also get the pan fried pork gyoza. Incredible restaurant. I absolutely love ramen so needless to say that I'm always trying to find a good bowl everywhere I go. Went to Philly to visit family and it so happened that our Airbnb was two blocks away from Chinatown. My daughter started to look for a ramen place immediately and we were shocked to discover how many places Philly has to choose from. It so happens that Terakawa was right down the street from us and is rated third on the top ten places. It's not a very large restaurant but it's very inviting. The staff greeted us at the door and we were seated immediately (yay!) We were lucky to get that table because every other seat was taken. We ordered edamame (we always do), the croquettes and their vegetarian ramen. While we waited (not long at all), we noticed all the condiments at the table you can use to spice up your meal. We were so happy with everything. The croquettes were fluffy soft on the inside and the perfect crunch on the outside. The ramen broth was very flavorful and it comes with lots of toppings. We enjoyed this establishment so much that we ended up having dinner there both nights we were in town. I ate here before an Aly & AJ concert at Franklin Music Hall a few weeks ago. I ordered takoyaki and Mayu Ramen (Natural Heritage Pork bone soup with mayu oil, topped with bamboo shoots, roast pork, chopped scallions, red ginger, kikurage mushroom, and a seasoned boiled egg). The takoyaki came out piping hot and it was delicious and generously filled. I didn't like the ramen broth because the mayu oil (dark roasted leek with crushed garlic oil) was very overpowering and I didn't get to tasty the rich pork-iness of the broth, which was probably my mistake for trying something new lol. The noodles were cooked well though with a great bounce and bite to it. The service was fine, but nothing amazing. I signed up for the wait-list on the tablet when I arrived and the host accidentally clicked a button to say my table was ready too early and then they just forgot about me lol. What was supposed to be a 10-minute wait was actually 20 mins, and it was only because I went up to the host and asked to be seated because they forgot about me and I wasn't even on the wait list anymore. There are plenty of other ramen restaurants in the area, so I think I'd rather give a different place a try next time I'm in Philly and craving ramen. read more

Terakawa is a great Ramen spot. The bowls are typically priced between 14 and $18 depending on what you get and what add-ins you include. I got their signature Ramen which is a tonkatsu pork broth. It's a very rich and flavorful broth. Terakawa is also very customizable which I loved. You can specify the type of noodle, the consistency from soft to extra firm, and the salt level of the broth. I highly recommend the Signature Ramen with wavy noodles that are extra firm and regular salt level. It's a pretty small space but the seating is arranged well so you're not really bumping into people. They do require that your entire party is present before you're seated, so keep that in mind. They also do take credit cards which is a plus in Chinatown. Highly recommend this place. Definitely one of my favorites. read more

The ramen was cooked perfectly and all the toppings were so good and fresh! The 3 star rating is because of the service. They have an iPad waitlist where you put your name down but the waitress didn't really go by the list. When we got to the restaurant, it was packed with another 4-5 parties ahead of us. We were hangry and everything nearby was closed so we decided to wait. Straight up, confirming the almost 2k reviews that say this place is it! Not only do they have Yelp Waitlist which helps when it comes to their rather long wait times (because it's that good), but the ambiance and service seals the deal. The restaurant is small, the tables are very close to each other, so definitely expect that. My table was luckily tucked away in a corner so I wasn't too bothered by it.
