Hajimaru Signature Ramen
David M.

Hajimaru is a great place for ramen in fishtown. A small and cozy spot with wonderful staff with great service. The ramen was delicious I ordered their signature dish which had a decent amount of spice to the dish. It came packed with plenty of meat and all the fixing you can expect with a typical ramen dish. Definitely a spot I would go back to and is easily found right on the corner of Girard and shackamaxon.

Cash discount. It's pricey but the best ramen in the fishtown area. Very friendly staff! They have regulars and are cool to chat.

Missing soup for tan tan ramen

Went here to pick up food on a friday night (we ordered online) -- and I was a little upset that they forgot the soup that came with my ramen. How am I supposed to eat the ramen without soup? :/ Disappointed-- but I've been here before and the food was decent. Just sad that I will have to eat my tan tan ramen dry or with something else.

Excellent casual ramen spot in Fishtown. I got the signature ramen- spicy, complex and flavorful broth packed full of pork belly, noodles and all the fixings. Hot green tea also hit the spot on a cold winter day

Best ramen place in Fishtown for sure. I went here on a date and really enjoyed the slow-cooked pork broth and the slight bite to the noodles. The chashu and marinated egg didn't disappoint either. Hajimaru also sells mini rice bowls as an add-on order to the ramen for only $4. If I had more room in my stomach, I would've tried it. They also had plenty of sushi rolls for people who don't want ramen or curry. The interior had an izakaya vibe to it with the wooden tables, walls, and plaques in the back. Service was prompt with orders, no complaints.

This is a great little spot. I was out running errands and was craving ramen and this hit the spot. The pork was really what took this above and beyond. They were quick and friendly too!

While wandering Fishtown, I was craving ramen on a budget. Quickly learning how easy it is to spend money in PA, I attempt to cushion my wallet. When I saw how packed this place was and the affordable pricing, I walked in. Food: 3/5 I ordered the shoyu ramen with a side charsu don. The ramen was surprisingly fishy (like thai fish sauce fishy) which made it hard for me to like the dish. The karrage was very basic (just fried thighs) and very bland. My charsu don bowl did not fare any better. The only brightside was that I spent under $30 for my ramen, side don, and karrage. Service: 3/5 To be honest, the staff was clearly just turning table so they weren't particularly helpful. I was hoping due to their assortment of ramens that they could have suggested something but, that was asking too much. I ordered Karrage as an appetizer but, it came out after my ramen and don. In short, not bad but not great. All in all, I guess I could go back for a quick bite not expecting anything spectacular.

Good food heals the soul, hajimaru is proud of their food and the stuff is very courteous. The music is a nice mix of mid 2010s and jam rock. With open windows and resin sealed Wood counter bench seats it feels what I imagine to be very authentic. Chicken was juicy, ramen was well balanced

The ramen here is good, not great. Very solid for hitting that craving, though, and looks great if you're trying to show off to your friends! We ordered a bunch of different items, takoyaki, karage chicken bowl, signature ramen, curry mini rice bowl and tan tan ramen. Takoyaki was solid, hit the spot and exactly what I want in a takoyaki. The karage chicken was crunchy and we enjoyed the sauce that came with it. The chashu in signature ramen is to die for, sooo tender (maybe just lacking a bit of flavor?) and the soft boiled eggs were perfect. I would say the biggest thing missing in the ramen is that I felt it was missing the usual richness that you get with a good ramen bowl. The broth felt a bit thin for ramen. The mini curry rice bowl was also good, but I think the curry was also a tiny bit lacking flavor - maybe I should have added more salt. Overall would still dine here for a ramen craving but don't expect the best ramen you've ever had here.

Writing this review makes me happy after knowing Fishtown has a great ramen joint. I came here with my friend on a Thursday night and thankfully (for us) it wasn't crowded. I opt for the Signature Ramen and have no complaints whatsoever. The flavor hit the spot and the portion was just right. My friend enjoyed her Miso ramen as well but was hoping for more flavor. I dont think it was a biggie since the resto does provide seasonings on the side. We also ordered Karaage Chicken and it was juicy and delicious! Love the white sauce on the side for extra love. Oh, don't forget to their cream sodas! We ordered mango and melon flavor and I have to say the mango was better the melon. I can taste the mango flav more than the melon; nevertheless, both were a nice addition to the bowls of ramen. The price was reasonable so that's always good. Tip: if you pay with cash you get 10% off.

WOW!! I moved to Fishtown in August and have walked by this place at least 30 times. A little voice in my head always said, "I love ramen" and "I should check this place out," but I never followed through. Sometimes it was closed. Other times I had already eaten somewhere else. Tonight was my night. I finally made it in and got their Signature Ramen. It was amazing!! The egg in there was spectacular. Every ingredient in the dish complimented the others. I slurped it up like a crazy person. Noodles and broth dripping off my chin. I didn't care. It was so good. I will definitely go back. I highly recommend. They also have good Covid safety measures in place. Sanitizer. They sanitize pens. Limited access inside.

I love this place, it's small and cozy. I usually order delivery, but when I have the time, I eat at the restaurant. The service is very good. And the food is always very fresh, the ramen is really delicious; I also like to order the pork buns and the Kani salad. I recommend it 100%.

This place was amazing. Came by for lunch and the place was empty. We were greeted by a friendly wait staff who told us we could sit anywhere. The decor and ambience was very appealing. The paintings of Japan on the wall were nice visuals. Had to use the restroom and I typically never use a public restroom because most are not clean. This bathroom on the other hand was sparkling clean, with an oscillating fan, an air wick spray and everything was fully stocked. I had the fried crab dumpling, edamame and a mango creamy soda. Everything came out relatively quick, no much waiting done and you can see right into the kitchen from the dining area. My crab dumplings were nice and hot and crispy, the edamame was fine. The soda was different but I really liked the taste of it. I didn't get much of a creamy taste just tasted like a mango soda. Face mask aren't required and staff is not wearing any mask.

Had the Hajimaru Special Ramen. Spicy and delicious. The pork was probably the best I've had. Great bowl!

Recently got some new menu entrees that absolutely hit the spot! Margaretha is the owner and she is such a sweetie! She truly has a passion for everything that comes out of Oishii. Not to mention she always participates in the Lantern Festival, Sakura Festival, and the Country music festival! So be sure to check out her chicken satay, Bao buns, and corn on the cob when at those events! I got to try their blue raspberry Ramune which was a Japanese soda and I thought it was so fun! You have to push down the marble with the cap to open and I got so excited after doing this. We started off with the edamame and the pork miso ramen. Both were so tasty! The ramen hit the spot last night being that it's been so cold in Philly! So it definitely warmed us right up! We also got the dynamite roll and rock n roll! Both were so good and came out with a beautiful presentation. The dynamite roll had crab, cucumber, and avocado topped with chopped shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, and scallion. The rock n roll had shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado and cucumber with a special sauce. We also got to try two items on their brand new menu and the pork Bao buns! We first had the chicken teriyaki don and the Yakisoba noodle shrimp! Both were so incredible. I can't say enough good things about those noodles too. One of my new favorite Japanese noodles in the city! The Bao buns were very yummy as well! I was pleasantly surprised by the Thai Green Iced Tea! I thought this drink was spectacular and so incredibly tasty! Such a great pick me up, I will definitely be craving one of these very soon! Overall a delicious dinner and a spot that I will now frequent regularly! Check it out & let me know what you think!

Visited with the family while in search of some good ramen in the Philadelphia area…read more Lovely and well-maintained space. It was practically empty during our early afternoon weekday visit...presumably after the lunch rush and before the dinner rush. Lots of delicious options in the menu...including sushi and ramen as the establishment name implies. Prices were very fair with lots of appetizers under $10, specialty sushi rolls around $12ish and ramen around $15-18. We ordered a few items including two ramen bowls. Both were very sizeable and delicious. Some of the best ramen I've had. Food took about 20-25 minutes...not very long. Staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Clean bathroom. Metered street parking wasn't difficult to find during our early afternoon weekday visit. We utilized the Park Mobile app...but there are others you can use as well.

literally best vegetarian / vegan sushi in the city…read more okay to start, if your friend/date/family member is vegetarian or vegan, take them here. you both will have options. inside is cozy. service is really thorough and like a well oiled machine. for the vegetarians: The lime sinko roll is a classic avocado cucumber roll with a pickled vegetable layer on top and a thin slice of lime. the roll itself is great, simple, and a classic. my sister really likes the pickled vegetable and lime on top. I however, just peel it off. it's good but I prefer without it. the veggie on fire is what you need: probably their best roll on the menu. it's a cucumber avocado roll with a spicy zucchini sauce on top and crispy fried onions. it's messy. it's spicy. it's delicious. the sauce is orange in color, has tiny slivers of zucchini in it. I was hesitant to try it at first, but it's my favorite roll now. the vegan tuna roll: it's marinated tomato in place of tuna. i've never had fish or tuna, but it definitely tastes a lot more fishy. I guess that's the marinade. texture is kinda slimy? mushy? I feel like this might be the roll for someone who liked the taste of fish but went vegan and wants a replica. Not for me, but well made nonetheless. Appetizers The veggie gyoza: the gyoza itself is green, doesn't taste different to a non green dough, but visually that might matter to some people. sauce they serve on the side is very good. comes with a lot, at least 6 I think. tastes good. I don't recall any mushrooms in it and if there is they are not noticeable as i'm not the biggest fan of mushrooms. The Spring rolls: new to the menu, no meat, interesting? they are more soft inside than expected. not a lot of veggies. tiny. cute little app to share and try. they come with two. no mushrooms. I typically prefer a more veggie heavy and crispy spring roll but i'd order them again! Samosa: currently off the menu I think, but in case they add it back, this was very good. i'd order this over the spring rolls. they were crispier and I think it came with three. Miso Soup: it's a fine little bowl of miso. I typically always order miso at every Japanese restaurant to start my meal. i'm not picky about miso, but I will say, it's not my favorite miso. I still order it every time, just not the absolute best i've had. It has small little tofu chunks and some green leafs which I find are in most misos but I have no idea what they are. small little bowl. perfect to order first. edamame: very good I always order in the beginning and I have a bad habit of also ordering another for dessert. the veggie bun: I don't like mushrooms, but if you do you will love this. my sister loves it. it's not often there is a vegetarian option for a bun, so i'd get it. the sauce on it is very good. comes with two. Karaage: This is chicken, but my dad gets it and it looks very good and crispy. if I ate meat i'd order this. avocado salad: okay so the ginger dressing is a little different than typical ginger dressing which I like. it's unique and very good. the amount of avocado is amazing! it has to be a whole avocado. always fresh. the green leafs are a little big, so this can get messy fast if you're on a date and trying to be demure. this is a must order for three people in my family. every time we go it's three orders clock work. I tried sharing with my sister and we determined we cannot share this. honestly bigger than I expected and more filling than I expected. has some cut up tomato's and cucumbers inside as well. mochi: must get. one order is one mochi cut in half. so two people could share one mochi order. i'm team chocolate, but I heard strawberry is good. I think I tried all of their flavors but honestly can't remember them. I'll update as I try more of the vegetarian/vegan rolls
