We chose to try this amazing Amigos place and honestly it really wasn't. We spent $60 to try a few items and threw away $55 worth of it. We ordered : Chimichanga- it was dry and tasteless. Side of rice- we could tell it had been made a while ago and sat there. Cold and clumpy. Two Asada Tacos for our 2 yr old grandbaby. ended up getting pork instead of asada and baby called it "bata" which in Spanish means trash. lol. I tasted it and she was right. It was mushy. Ordered a soft taco plate with al pastor and carnitas tacos. The tacos are HUGE. I definitely enjoyed the al pastor tacos more than the carnitas. The carnitas tacos I felt was lacking some flavor. Service overall was good. A different server constantly came to check on us if we needed more chips and salsa. Their water cups were pretty small, but he always made sure our water never ran empty which was nice. However, I wish they offered us salsa for our tacos. I kept trying to flag down our server for some salsa but he was always in a rush which I understand, they have lots of phone orders that come through. Stopped in today around 2 pm to try their birria queso tacos. These are only, to my knowledge, currently on sale at the Kahului Amigos location (though many have requested them to be added to the menu at their other locations). It is $12.99 for an order of 4 tacos which includes a side of consommé (dipping broth) and chips and salsa. Also included was a lime wedge and an additional sauce of some type. On their Facebook page (which is where I learned of this new menu item), they recommend calling in 10-15 minutes before you arrive to let them know you are going to be ordering these. I did just that. The woman on the phone was very friendly who took my order. Just what you expect from a place called Amigos! After placing my order, I was told they would be ready in 15 minutes. They were, in fact, ready in 15 minutes. I came to pick them up and noticed a sign on the door that said "limited to 15 people inside". There was hand sanitizer available right next to the door before you enter. There were a couple of people eating at a table outside. There was also a table outside which looked like a table for the host/hostess...but nobody was there so I went inside. I was immediately acknowledged and politely asked to go back outside and they'd meet me at the table. The hostess was wearing a mask and brought out my bag to the table, where I paid for the item. As for the tacos themselves, they were very crispy and not too greasy. Each taco has a generous portion of shredded beef (birria). The beef and the consommé go well together. Each has a savory and slightly salty (but nothing too bad) flavor. A lime wedge was provided, but I tried them without it and felt it was not needed. They were fine on their own with the consommé. I didn't notice a lot of cheese in them...but there must have been just enough to hold the tacos together. They were not messy or greasy at all. I think this has a lot to do with how much cheese is used. I tried the same dish at Tacos Y Mariscos in Lahaina...and their version had much more cheese, but was also far less crispy, more greasy, and was honestly kind of a mess to eat. Amigos version is much more satisfying and refreshing, as far as I'm concerned. Fills you up, but doesn't make you feel like you immediately need to take a nap, haha. The four tacos go down pretty fast...you could split them with someone for a snack...or eat all four yourself if you're hungry. I wouldn't ever order more than four for one person unless I was historically a big eater. All in all, this was a great experience. First time I've been to this location, actually. I usually go to the Kihei location, which is great too. I would love if they'd offer this on the menu in Kihei...maybe it's in the works...who knows! Highly recommend giving this item a try at Amigos Kahului. Continue to support local and small businesses during these trying times...and please tip your restaurant workers generously. I am so surprised that this doesn't have a higher rating on here. We ordered this to our hotel room after a flight from Oahu. Unfortunately our DoorDash driver got lost and somehow delivered our order to the hotel next door to ours. Despite the hassle to get it back, and this being a delivery (delivery quality is obviously usually different in a bad way) order- this was an A+ Mexican meal! We ordered the following the first time: *Shrimp Ceviche Tostada *Alambres *Chicken Mole w/ Flour Tortilla *Al Pastor Burrito, Enchilada Style This really hit the spot after a long day. As you can see, they were pretty generous with the red and green sauces and what we ordered- the Alambres came with sour cream and guacamole. We loved how much avocado accompanied the shrimp ceviche. It was also nice to have a fresh component to contrast the rest of our heavier dishes. The Al Pastor burrito, enchilada style was so good, and I would recommend this as well. Love a wet burrito. Alambres is an entree that is sautéed steak, bell peppers, onions, bacon, melted cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. So kind of like fajitas with awesome toppings. :) This was fantastic, and I wish we had something like this at a nearby restaurant, so I could order it again. I've been meaning to try Chicken Mole for some time now, so I jumped at the chance to order this. Theirs is chicken in a traditional poblano sauce, three kinds of dried peppers, chocolate, almond, cinnamon, and spices. This was lightly sweet and so delicious. I'm so bummed this dish on another island now that we're back in Oahu. We actually loved the meal so much, that we ordered from Al Pastor nachos with extra chips a couple days later! I'm always weary of ordering nachos because I despise unnecessarily soggy chips. Which is why I was thrilled that they honored our request on DoorDash of separating the ingredients, so that we could assemble it on our own. For anyone who isn't a fan of this place, or is looking for recommendations- I would highly suggest getting either Alambres or the Chicken Mole- or better yet, both! I've eaten at least seven Mexican restaurants (and countless more in California) in Hawaii- all of them on Oahu except this one. This is the worst dining experience I've ever had. Food was less than average, rice and beans were cold, but worst of all, service was extremely bad. There was a sign noting they are short staffed but in contrast, it appeared they had more than adequate staff, they were just not interested in working. It appears to be an excuse to provide poor service. They were more interested in looking at their phones, organizing the forks and spoons, instead of checking on their guest if they needed, water, drinks, or inform them food is delayed. I have dined here numerous times before and service and food were never this bad. As a "solo diner" this was a terrible experience. From the hostess, to the server assistant, to the server, I was uncomfortable the entire time. I was obviously overlooked on several occasions, was NEVER offered a drink besides a water that was rudely slammed down on the far side of the table, my server wasn't helpful when I had questions about the menu, and as if it couldn't get worse - they got my order wrong, didn't offer a refund, and I never once at any point received an apology. I would usually order the burritos, but recently decided to venture out and opt for the Amigo's Trio which includes a taco, an enchilada and a chile relleno. My faves of the three combo plate was the steak taco and chile relleno. I ordered a soft taco and the steak was flavorful and accompanied with onions, cilantro and salsa. The relleno was fried to perfection and the melted cheese was oozing out. That was accompanied with guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. The enchilada was good, but I was more impressed with the other two items. Since then, I've ordered a combo plate with just the taco and relleno and have been pleased. After not enjoying a plate of my favorite relleno in all of Maui for over a year, and after watching an especially delicious episode of my favorite foodie you tuber's trip to their local taqueria, I buckled. Buckled like my seat belt as I drove the appropriate speed limit from the top of the mountain, to the valley, during flash flood rains. Dangerous, delicious, well worth the trip. Phone service professional and welcoming, and an easy pick up with lots of extra salsa's to boot. The warm tomato salsa, especially for the relleno was especially satisfying... hubby loved his steak and pepper burrito.... I haven't been this happy in ages.... I never thought I'd be the kind of lady to succumb to take out chili relleno, eaten in the front seat of the car with window wipers lashing, and cheesy goodness oozing out all around me, but it's a new world now, and I'm a new woman! My husband and I island hopped from Oʻahu to Maui for the day and was recommended here by his friend, whose family owns the business. We came around lunch time and was seated fairly quickly. I got the Lilikoi margarita, shrimp cocktail amd large side order of guacamole. The margarita was tasty, evenly balanced and not a bad price. The shrimp cocktail was delicious but does have a slight kick to it from the spice. They come served with soda crackers which was different as I'm used to eating it with tostadas, but like I said, it was still really good. Guacamole was rich and creamy and I probably would've finished it if I wasn't so full. My husband had the michelada and torta and said he enjoyed both. We came during a lunch rush on Saturday so we were waiting a bit, but again, lunch rush so can't fault them for that. Our server was still very friendly and apologized multiple times. Overall, I would come back here the next time we're on Maui. read more

Always drove by Amigos but never did stop here. I've been on a Mexican crave lately where all I want is a taco salad. Sorry I don't have a picture of that. I saw a sign up that said taco plate 9.99 di we said why not let's try.. Called our order in and spoke to a lady on the other end of the line. I asked her questions and she answered them. I'm one who doesn't like beans no refried, no black nothing please. The lady told me it would take 10 minutes okay no problems. Waited patiently as to where it was 1 in the afternoon and I didn't eat all day, so I was starving. 10 minutes went by so I walked in and as soon as I entered she stood up I guess she knew my order. I also asked for 2 drinks. My order wasn't quite ready yet, so I waited patiently. It was frigge hot in there. Fans going and A.C. SET to 85° I was hot and started to sweat. Luckily I was in there for about 8 minutes. She gave me my order and she put it in a paper bag, she asked me if I wanted a fork. I said yes please 2 of them. It was 28 and some change. Tipped her too. So I was ready to dig in. Turned the A.C. in the car on high and were started to eat. Ther taco plate came with beans and rice and two soft tacos. You have a choice of crunchy or soft. My taco salad was okay. I enjoyed the kihei location better. Sorry. I ended up getting sick that afternoon. I was on the toilet which seems like forever. My gang's once-a-week pau hana session brought us to Amigo's for food, drinks and fun. We needed to change things up from our normal routine of Koho and Ale House. The only downfall with Amigo's is they close at 9pm which is so early IMO. MENU: Mexican breakfast, apps & entrees, burgers, salads, soups, desserts, kids menu. FOOD: Cheese Dip - $7.00 This wasn't what we were expecting but ate it anyway as we needed some food to go with our alcohol. The menu's lack of a description didn't help either. The dip was soupy and not thick like a queso dip, a bit sweet, laced with bits of diced red bells and green chiles. You could tell it sat out for a bit before being brought to our table because there was a skin that formed on the top. Tortilla chips accompanied. Eh, pass. Al Pastor Taco Salad - $14.00 A bit pricey but it was a very generous portion that I couldn't finish even with my hearty appetite. The plentiful chunks of pork were very tasty and tender, the shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes fresh, the taco shell nice and crunchy. A dollop of sour cream, guac and pico accompanied. Ultimato Breakfast Skillet - $11.00 There's nothing better than a sizzling breakfast skillet to go along with my adult beverage for pau hana! It's really the ultimate pupu for me. This thing is huge and loaded with everything: sausage, bacon, potatoes, spinach, bell pepper, onions, mushrooms and two eggs on top cooked to order. Highly recommended. Chilaquiles - $11.00 Yes, I had another breakfast meal at "dinner time". The first time I had this dish was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and loved it. Here, it was honestly just as good. I opted for Al Pastor pork which tacked on $4 more. The platter consists of tortilla chips covered in the pork and melted cheese, Mexican rice, refried beans and topped with two eggs of your cooking choice. Tasty, hearty and oh so delish. Shrimp Cheese Dip - $10.00 This mistake order was given to us by the restaurant - thanks, eh! A bowl of soft white cheese was laced with a sweet mix of peppers and small shrimp with a handful of tortilla chips to the side. Very good. Nachos - $12.00 Do you know why I love Amigo's? Because they offer ground beef. What's so wrong with that? My friend unassumingly ordered this. I was thinking WTF?! Insert foot into mouth. What made this dish phenomenal was the ground beef. Just like in their ground beef burrito, the meat was bathed in a delicious sauce akin to a sloppy joe, and piled onto tortilla chips with the usual suspects. Move over, nachos at Polli's in Makawao. A new winner has been crowned! SERVICE: Lulu took good care of us but she definitely could use some help as she was also the sole bartender. Been going here for years, yet I've never taken the time to leave a review. Customer service and food have been consistent which we appreciate and has always brought us back. Tucked in the corner on Dairy Rd, next to Minit stop, you can find this authentic Mexican restaurant. They also have a larger restaurant in Kihei. Seating is limited due to covid, but they make take out a breeze. Just call in and someone will meet you at the door promptly. The kids enjoyed their Chicken flautas and Chicken quesadilla. Lots of flavor and large portions. I had their cheese enchiladas, nothing extraordinary, but it had good flavor. The real gem and shining star to me is their Shrimp Ceviche. Ton's of flavor from the limes, cilantro and Serrano peppers mixed with lots of shrimp and avocado. And it goes perfectly with their home made chips . Perfect amount of heat. I have tried this place quite a few times. I have found a couple other Mexican food restaurants that I will go to from now on. The food quality here ranges from poor to mediocre. For two meals no drinks before tip it cost $49 last time. The soup can either be way, way to spicy where even my friend who loves spicy food can not eat it. But the last time we got it, they forgot to put any seasoning at all in it and my whole family said it tastes like water. My husband said the chicken burritos are like throw up. When I was in L.A. last month, I was lucky enough to meet up with some friends for dinner at a Mexican restaurant. While eating there, my friend had ordered an item called a - "Chile Relleno". Hummmmmmmmm, what is that???? Well, a Chile Relleno is basically a Pobiano Pepper (mild), stuffed with mozzarella cheese and dipped in an egg batter. The Chile Relleno is served with pico de gallo, guacamole, & a Ranchera sauce. After seeing my friend eat this dish, while I was on Maui the other day I decided to do some Mexican grindages and upon walking into a joint called - "Amigo's", and looking over the menu.......I spotted the Chile Relleno on the menu. Quickly I decided to order the Chile Relleno, and I'm glad I did. My Chile Relleno was delicious, as the pepper was encased in a light fluffy egg batter with gooey mozzarella cheese packed inside the pepper. The dish came with some tortillas, so I cut up the Chile Relleno and packed it into a tortilla and added some rice, beans, guacamole..........Deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!!! My friend ordered a taco salad with shredded beef, and I was surprised at how much beef they added to his salad (see pic). This restaurant located on Dairy Road is very popular, but unfortunately the restaurant is not too big, therefore depending on when you come here, there maybe a wait to get a table. When we came here the other day, we were lucky enough to secure one of the last two table available in the restaurant. After we got comfortable at our table, a ton of folks came afterwards and had to wait for a table to open up. Service - Although not the friendliest, service was pretty fast & attentive. They try to get you out as quickly as possible, as they need to turn the tables for other waiting guess. Avoid this place like the plague. Sad to say no ALOHA spirit especially from the MANAGER YECENIA. So my husband & I had ordered two chimichanga meals from here Wed night. Mind you, the ONLY meal we shared that day. Within an hour, we both had an upset stomach and diarrhea until the next afternoon. T.M.I but that's how terrible it was. So I call Thursday to voice my concern of a possible Food Poisoning, the cashier tells me call back Friday. I call back Friday and then another cashier asks me what happened and for my info that way manager Yesenia will call back later. This is second time me repeating the same story to 2 different people just to have to repeat it again to Manager later. This is already foreshadowing no urgency in customer service. Finally, Manager Yecenia calls and before I can even get two sentences in - she's already cutting me off and talking over. She was extremely defensive and also states food poisoning can show up in system 4 days after according to CDC. "You story doesn't add up, no other customers complained, and you can't prove anything" is her response. I did some fact checks on my own and CDC websites does show one of the symptoms for food poising is Staphylococcus aureus (Staph) with symptoms in 30 minutes to 8 hours after exposure: Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps. Most people also have diarrhea. I have contacted Maui Health Department to look further into this. All in all, my original concern went out the window after dealing with the worst customer service. So much for Aloha. No empathy or customer service. I asked if possible to get a refund since I am an unsatisfied customer. She denies a refund bc I didn't state I was unsatisfied in the beginning & now I'm switching up stories. Of course I'm unsatisfied, after being in a heated argument with her over the phone. No apology, no refund, no customer service. Keep the $40 - Last time coming here and I will make sure to spread the word around the community to avoid Kahului location. The Manager Yecenia is extremely unprofessional and difficult to deal with here if customers need to voice concerns. read more

I was first attracted to their margaritas thanks to their Facebook posts listing new flavors last year (I'm looking at you Mangoneada! ) This time around, I had the refreshing Hisbiscus margarita. Fresh chips and an assortment of salsa are always provided. But don't fill up on the chips, their food is delicious! So far, I've tried their nachos, chicken quesadilla, and chicken burrito plate served wet. All have left me very full, one day I hope to leave room for dessert. The servers and bar staff were also polite and helpful. My server forgot that I ordered my burrito wet, immediately apologized and brought over the sauce.
