This restaurant is in my neighborhood, and somehow I'd never managed to try it before today. Since it was my first visit, I decided to order the appetizer sampler and the chicken fried rice. The portions are generous and my food was made very quickly, and my order came with a few dipping sauces, and a bonus bag of little fried dough balls coated with sugar (not quite a donut hole, but same idea). I thought that was neat. The restaurant is in a very convenient location and has the potential to be a nice place, but when you first walk in the door, your eye is immediately drawn to the back wall where the dish station is totally open to the dining floor. The nearest tables are only a few feet away from it. There really should be a wall or a screen to separate the two areas. Okay, to the food. The appetizer sampler comes with 4 chicken pieces, 2 egg rolls, 2 fried jumbo shrimp, 4 cream cheese wontons and 8 slices of bbq beef. It was a lot of food, but I thought it would be a good way to try everything without committing to entire separate appetizers. The beef was tender, the chicken pieces were nicely sized, no complaints there. But basically everything in my order that was fried (the chicken pieces, wontons, egg rolls, shrimp) was overdone. The egg rolls and wontons didn't suffer from this very much, but the shrimp and chicken were tough and seemed to be more batter than chicken or shrimp. Worse, everything must have been fried in the same oil, because every item tasted distinctly of fried chicken--even the bonus sugared dumplings tasted faintly like chicken! The fried rice also had a very homogenous flavor and seemed overcooked. I didn't have any of the entrees, so I can't speak to their quality. I'm really a fried-rice-and-egg-rolls kind of person. In that respect, I was disappointed by my experience. The price, the portions, the fast service, and the convenience of the location are good, but the overwhelming "fry oil with too much mileage" flavor of my food really doesn't merit a return visit. read more

I love the drunken noodles here, they are always great. I always mean to try something else, but you can get Chinese at a lot of places around Hugo but you won't find noodles quite like Amian. Very friendly staff. I would suggest doing takeout if you have small children, it's a very small dining area and I brought my 1 year old son and it was a little difficult :) It's more of a night out without the kids restaurant, but it's not like you can't bring the kids with. read more

Best Asian food for miles around! My favorite is the Kung Pao chicken, it's not the 'traditional style' one gets from Americanized Chinese restaurants. I've tried several entrees and not one disappointment. Everything is fresh and flavorful without being to heavy or greasy. The also prepare excellent American style cuisine! It was my first time ordering and the experience was awful. My order included shrimp and pea pods and 5 other items for a cost over $65. I got there when they told me to arrive and was told it wouldn't be two minutes. Then I heard a woman who was very irate yelling shrimp and pea pods and other comments in her oriental language. The yelling continued for a few minutes as I heard shrimp and pea pods several times. About 10 minutes later they brought my order and I left. I bet you can guess, I didn't get my shrimp and pea pods. It was a vegetable dish with about 5 pea pods. I will never return as there are other better take out restaurants in the area read more

I live in Hugo and don't have many Chinese food restaurants in the area. Amian seems to be a clean restaurant with OK ambiance. However the food we ordered must not be the reason others have such a high opinion of the place. The Egg Foo Yung sauce was good, but the 3 patties were too eggy and 'Where's the shrimp?' -- about 10 teeny shrimp - this cost $8.95. Not good. The Beef Lo Mein was equally disappointing - sparse on the beef, Lo Mein noodles were tasteless and no rice. Needless to say, I won't return - it would be worth a 10-mile trip for good Chinese food, rather than go back here again. read more

My family and I have enjoyed the American & Amian Bistro in Hugo for the last 4 years. In the most recent months the service has drastically changed and we will not return to the establishment. The food has always been excellent - this I will not dispute. The biggest downfall we had seen to date was that their take out service was very slow. We joke that they don't start making the food until you actually show up..but always found it was worth the wait. Recently we have found the customer service at this establishment has become completely unnacceptable. Here is my example... Within the last two weeks we have made 2 to go orders. During the first experience we had a order for 5 people. When we got home we were missing one order of Chow Mein - when we returned for it, they insisted it was put in our bag and said if we wanted another we would have to pay. Disgruntled we did - as we had a houseful of guests to feed. To give the benefit of the doubt, we placed another order this week. When we got home, we realized we had somebody else's order. After calling they did did agree they gave us the wrong food and asked us to return it. I explained our experience the prior order and expected a refund or some sort of compensation for this second mistake. Believe it or not the order person handed the phone off to a CUSTOMER SITTING IN THE RESTAUARANT TO TALK TO ME. We (me and the customer were flabergasted). The customer called it the weirdest experience and we laughed - because we could not believe it. Finally we drove back to the restuaruant, explained the frustration in person and they argued that we did not return all the food they sent us with (which we did) and refused to make new or give a refund. After much deliberation and the staff hiding in the kitchen. We demanded a full refund and walked out of the restuaruant empty handed after 90 minutes of ordering, waiting 40 minutes for the WRONG order and returning. We were still empty handed. We will never return to this establishment. read more

Delicious food!! My wife always gets the shataki chicken and I always get the sirloin with blue cheese crumbles. I'd also recommend the pain fried pot stickers. Nothing we've ever had here has been bad!! The staff is super friendly and always a pleasure to dine in or pick up. read more

Ordered takeout. Inside of restaurant is an open floor plan just like eating at a fast food place. Tables only no booths. Food was not the best I have ever had. Ordered Kung Pao chicken ($9.95) and Szechuan Beef ($11.95)-both had more vegetables than meat:( Chicken fried rice was ok. Would not go back again. Love this place! Now, I'm not an Asian food nut by any means, but I have tried maybe 20 places around the cities, give or take. The gauge that I use to compare Chinese places is vegetable fried rice. Always order it. Amian has had the best by far! My whole family loves the food -- we have tried perhaps 5 different entrees, plus the cream cheese wontons (to die for), spring and egg rolls. All have been fab. I also like the fact that you can choose some American dishes as well, though we haven't. I know several people who have been impressed with this little place. Food comes up extremely fast and fresh. I don't want to say that the prices are a little high (because I think they're competitive) but I wish I could afford to eat there more often. Still, I have gotten 2-3 leftover meals from my orders so it's worth it. Also, the staff stands out in my mind as extra nice and friendly, and efficient. Plus, they're generous with the fortune cookies and sometimes include a special treat - bonus! read more

Always friendly staff. Great food. Sure it might be a little bit small, but it makes for a good Cafe type atmosphere. It's a great place to go for both American Food and Chinese in the area. It's the only place you can get a good steak and also some great Kung Pao chicken. It's about average price for this kind of food in the area. read more

For about the cost of a McDonalds meal you get a home cooked, never frozen, fresh meal that is so big that you are hard pressed to eat it in all one sitting. The family who owns it does all the work and they're SO friendly and accommodating! The food is so good because it's authentic Asian/American and they use fresh ingredients. I've never once had bad service or a bad meal from Amian and my family and I eat there often. In fact, we refuse to eat at any other Asian restaurants since Amian moved into Hugo. The prices are inexpensive, especially for the quality and amount of food you get. Try the orange chicken and fried rice or the honey walnut shrimp-- beyond delicious!!! read more

I am a huge fan of this place. Their lunch specials are a great deal. This is not a typical Asian restaurant. The quality of the food is really good and it doesn't have that greasy feel that a lot of other places get. The service is great and I have always had my food out in a timely manner. read more

The food was just plain awful! Could hardly identify the difference between the chicken and shrimp in the house lomein - they both had the same mushy texture! Blah! Kung Pao chicken was VERY dried out. Would not recommend! read more
