I gave this place another try since they moved locations. The food is still lackluster, cold and nasty and and inedible.

The food has seen better. I was intimidated to leave a tip for the hibachi cook which I did not tip because I don't do well with forced tips. The waiters are rather aggressive and I do not believe because of the language barrier. I feel like Lucy Lou trying to fight off the tip bandits. My friend bravely tried their mac and cheese that looked like 3 tons of the most orange colored mac. He is still alive if anyone cares but his bathroom saw better days. The donuts are the best thing and I don't know if it's because I miss krispy Kreme or I was hungry but I had maybe 6 on my plate. Would I go back? Probably not, I don't think it is worth the waste of my hard earned funds unless I am getting free lunch. read more

Hmmmm.... what can I say? A friend invited a big group of people here today, Sunday evening... we sat in a back room that was pretty roomy. The Good- the food was tasty, there was a large variety. Choices ranged from typical Asian food, Mongolian and hibachi grill, sushi, to meatloaf, ribs& buffalo chicken wings, (they were actually meaty and good) There were raw oysters and clams, fried fish, fried shrimp, calamari, crab legs, boiled shrimp and even a pretty good variety of desserts. Most things tasted good The Bad- the soups didn't have much flavor. I tried won ton and hot and sour. The egg rolls had a funny (not haha) flavor. And when it came to the bill, they had a lot of trouble giving us our bills... it took some explaining and more explaining to get a bill. Not sure why we couldn't each go to the counter and pay. We had a group with three people who eat asian food and one who eats american food. When we went in, the pricing is fantastic. Its $15 weekday and 17 friday and saturday. Lunch is even cheaper. The restaurant serves Americanized chinese food. We did not touch the oysters and clams on ice because it did not bave much turnover. We arrived at 3pm and apparently got dinner priced but most of the dinner items did not roll out until after 5pm. So we were somewhat disappointed for paying dinner but did not have much variety. I ate here for the first time today. I prefer Asian buffets with a decent variety of sushi and ice cream flavors. This one had both. However, bananas were placed in some of the sushi pieces (I like bananas, but not with sushi). Another small complaint is having to ring the service bell three times until the chef came out to cook my plate of Hibachi. Otherwise, I was pleased with Amherst Buffet. The place was clean and had a good assortment of other foods. Dirty plates were promptly removed and refills of water were done in a timely manner. I'm might come back when in the area. read more

This has been my go to spot for good Chinese food that's not takeout. Their food is consistently good, the tables are always clean, and the prices are reasonable enough that you can get just one plate(or two, no judgement) and not feel like you have to eat 10 plates to get your money's worth. They also have decent enough sushi(if you're a sushi snob, skip it) and really good made to order hibachi. I'd say that's one of the highlights. There's little ice cream cups for the kids and a pretty extensive salad bar for whoever wants that too. Service is fast and vibe is very casual. read more

I like them but don't go on Sunday all day buffet. If you like crab legs you can't get them even though you pay full price . Because they allow some patrons to hog them all. The patrons stand at the crab pan holding the utensils so no one can get any but them. I visited Amherst Buffet on a weekday for lunch. It was very big and it wasn't empty nor crowded. The employees were too busy conversing to sit us, thus we helped ourselves to seats as there were plenty. It wasn't a big deal as they came to ask us what we would like to drink after helping ourselves. We got our waters and went on to the food. There were so many varieties of food from spring rolls to dumplings to chicken wings. I didn't try the hibachi station or the sushi, but the food was good for mass produced buffet food. The food was warm and none of the food options were empty. I sampled about everything and enjoyed the sesame chicken the best. The number of options available is worth the price. I would return again as the food was pretty good and well worth the price. It left me with a food coma, but it was delicious and I don't think the price for the amount of food and options can be beat. read more

The price includes hibachi, the hibachi chef is a complete a** ignores you and continues to make sushi. I had to go get another worker who argued with the chef for a few minutes in Chinese. The he continued to ignore me for several more minutes. When cooking my food he kept tapping the tip jar and speaking with an attitude in Chinese (probably cursing me out) Total jerk ! I was surprised to find the buffet open before 11 am, but they didn't actually have all the food set out until a quarter after. Totally worth the wait, though. Nothing beats fresh coconut chicken. The crab rangoon was just the way I like - small purses of creamy goodness and no noticeable chives or onions. The fried scallops were plump and juicy. Huge variety of sushi, including Philly rolls and spicy tuna. I do wish they had a low sodium soy at the table in addition to regular soy because it was a bit salty for me, but that's just nitpicking. I didn't try the habachi station. Next time! Huge variety in general, and all your favorites - but better than anywhere I've had them. The fried donuts weren't overly sweet. The coffee and strawberry cakes were fresher and more flavorful. This restaurant had a great selection, they had a sushi bar, habiachi bar to make your own soup and stir fry. The food was pretty good, I wasn't expecting that from a place that had so much variety. We really enjoyed the seafood selection. The sushi was also pretty good, they had about 10 different kinds of sushi rolls. We were more so impressed with the fried crab and fried shrimp. We had the pleasure of speaking to some of their restaurant patrons while grazing the buffet, and to our surprise, she told me she travelled 45 minutes to this buffet, and I can see why. The staff were very friendly, we were initially seated at the back of the restaurant, close to the window, which is nice to have a seat with the view. But we didn't want to be so far from the buffet, and they accommodated us, and were very pleasant about it. Our plates were cleared regularly, and the beverages were filled. I would expect this kind of service from a place like a high end restaurant. If your in the Amherst area, I would definitely recommend you stop here for a bite. Make sure you come hungry! During this Covid time, we all endure the issues imposed by the state. This restaurant has all the posts clearly upon entrance. However, they are NOT enforced. People at the food trays without masks, sneezing, chatting....etc. There is no sanitizer, no disposable gloves at the food tray tables. Booths had not been sanitized after customers left. Went for dinner, the person who took our drink order was rude. She came by with a pitcher after we finished eating and fill our glasses half way with warm tap water and gave us the check. I scored 4 out of 5 because the quality of food is above average, but it needs some minor improvements to get full star score! My favorite part is Deserts, Sushi bar, and pick/fry sections. Let me just say first that I am giving Amherst Buffet 4 stars for being a good buffet, so it's on a "Buffet Rating System". My girlfriend and I have joked about coming to this place since we first moved to Buffalo and started receiving coupons for it and Sunday somehow ended up being the day we bit the bullet and gave this place a shot! When we first walked in I was surprised at just how big it is inside, as it actually looks pretty small on the outside. We were seated right away and after that awkward 10 second of seating at the booth we both headed for the food stations. On top of being bigger then I expected, this place also has way more food then I would of expected. I believe in total there was 8-10 different buffet stations all offering different kinds of sushi, Chinese food, American food, and everything in between. I ended up having 2 plates while I was here (cheat day, don't judge me) and was pretty pleased with the taste on pretty much everything. I sampled pretty much every form of chicken there was and enjoyed all of it except for the fried chicken wings. I also enjoyed the macaroni and cheese way more then I should have, along with the mashed potatoes and.....well, I think I mostly just ate a ton of different types of chicken actually, go figure. On top of having a ton of food this place has a few dessert options in the front and some tubs of ice cream in the back that was also pretty good, I tried the Oreo and mint chocolate chip. This place was pretty darn good for a standard buffet place and for that, I'm giving it 4 stars. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was above average for what It was, and there's plenty of seating for you and everyone you know.
