SUMMARY: First eyelash extensions ever and I am not happy. This was on a Thursday. Tech Nora was 30 minutes late. There was no initial consultation to determine what I wanted, such as "how long do you want your lashes, etc." I wanted "natural" lashes, but I found my extensions to be too long. Moreover, the process was painful, which I later found out shouldn't be! Definitely do not recommend and will not be returning. I arrived about 10 minutes before my 1 pm appointment time. The doors were locked but there was a lady sitting in a chair on the porch, so I waited with her. As we were waiting, I contacted my daughter who was "treating" me to my first ever lash extensions; my daughter informed that Nora had messaged her that she'll be 30 minutes late. I thought "fine, I've been late before" so I waited. Nora finally arrived around 1:30 pm and she rushed to get her station ready for me. Almost 10 minutes later, Nora called me to come to the back and she had me lay down on what appeared to be a massage table covered in a very soft blanket. I obliged. As she started the process, Nora asked how I wanted my lashes and I told her I liked what she had done for my daughter, so Nora replied "natural," and I said "yes." Then Nora put on the tape on my lower lashes, had me closed my eyes and poured some kind of liquid on my eyes. The liquid seeped through and stung both eyes, especially the left one. After getting that under control, Nora proceed - her work on the right eye was a bit painful and I could feel tugging after she glued on the extensions. However, the pain from the right eye did not compare to the pain I felt while Nora was working on my left eye! At one point, I felt like Nora had stabbed me in the eyelid! In retrospect, I believe Nora rushed through both eyes, especially the left one in order to accommodate her waiting client who probably had a 3 pm appointment. (You'd think that if you're going to be late for a 1 pm appointment that perhaps you should have moved the following appointment as well?) Afterwards, I felt pain in both eyelids, especially the left one, similar to the pain one sometimes feels after getting their nails done - not excruciating but still uncomfortable to deal with. (I experienced pain each day after getting my lashes done by Nora). Sadly, this was my first time getting eyelash extensions so I didn't know any better; in other words, I did not know that this was NOT normal. Nora's aftercare instructions, "do not get them wet for 24 hours." That was it. Less than 24 hours later, the very next morning, an eyelash fell out. Then another each day thereafter. All from my left eye! I texted Nora on the Monday after my Thursday appointment, explained that too many lashes had fallen out and asked her to get back to me about fixing it. No response. On Tuesday morning, I DM'd Nora on IG. I have now gone to another Lash Artist (Jen of Pink Blush Bar) to fix Nora's work and ended up having to remove the lashes and get a whole new set. Guess what? NO PAIN either during the procedure and after. Wow. And ... Nora had put on "fans" instead of the "natural" lashes that I wanted; and ... Nora had glued each "fan" lash to a clump of my lashes rather than separating them out! No wonder I was hurting! Also, the procedure took 2 hours, not less than an hour and a half that Nora rushed me through! NEVER GOING BACK AND CERTAINLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

I have been here before for a gel manicure and I remember being pleased with the service. This time around I'm not impressed with the customer service I received. I scheduled an appointment online for an acrylic fill and when I arrived at the salon the tech wasn't there. I wasn't in any sort of rush, so I waited while the front desk tried to contact the tech to find out where she was. Came here to get my lashes done by nora. The process was excruciating. First she brushed my lashes so hard with the spooly brush that my lash line was rubbed raw. Nora was not even at the salon when we showed up on time. We waited about 15 outside for her to show up and open the salon. She Charged an extra $5 for a gel removal even though I was getting a gel manicure, which has never happened at another salon. One of my nails had a large raised piece and my pinky nail had a hair dried into it! Within 2 days half of my nails had chipped or broken. I have been getting gel manicures for years and never had this happen! My cuticles were cut to the point of bleeding but it still appears as if I need a manicure. After trying a number of different places around town and shelling out at least $20-22 a pop for my eyebrow maintenance every couple of months, I was becoming increasingly irritated by the high prices and inconsistent quality of the services offered at other places around town. Then, I discovered this affordable, functional gem of a salon. Amethyst, while not exactly flashy, has the most affordable yet high-quality waxing services that I've been able to find in Reno. Lydia has become my favorite person to see for all things hair-removal, and she has done an excellent job every time I've booked an appointment with her. (She really went above and beyond last August to help me get ready before a week at Burning Man, where shaving my legs on the playa was not going to be an option!) Something to note: Amethyst uses soft wax with cloth strips instead of hard wax. I personally haven't noticed a difference in quality or comfort, but some people prefer one over the other. I called the morning after getting my nails done because they were just done Terribly by the Eyelash Connection in midtown. I described what fixes I wanted to my nails over the phone and they were MORE than willing to fit me in the SAME DAY hours after I called on a Sunday!!!! I came to the shop with my bf and we sat there picking out the problems that we both had about our nails. She sanded down how bubbly they were, re shaped the tips, used for to mend a fracture ( I cannot believe that my nails were already fracturing from my first mani... it had only been overnight.) She also re-gelled the surface, fixed the slanted tips, and send me on my way charging me next to nothing for the labor. When I inquired about a Brazilian the staff was honest about the fact it's not their forte ad sent me here. (Big shout out to Atlantis - nothing worse than an incompetent wax, so I appreciate the honest heads up). I'm usually nervous to have a new person do my brows, but Jessica did a great job cleaning up and maintaining my shape. Also solid bikini wax. The salon is clean, though I'm used to paper on the massage table. All the other wax basics were good - wax was right temp, new sticks for each dip, and the right wax was used for the process. I am about to be 21 and for a young woman to say this is proof that you can do better than this place. She is a very nice individual but her nail art is terrible. I asked for this certain design which she said she could do. After she was done she said "I did my own thing. I hope you like them". How can a artist do this to a paying customer. Her art work was very sloppy, it looked like my nails were at a slope, and the lines for the nail art were completely Un-even. She spent 2 hours with me and I felt so relaxed and pampered, it was truly the best facial I have ever had. When setting the appointment I said I was only able to stay for 2 hours and she said that wouldn't be a problem, but her arriving late cut into that time. I scheduled for a gel full set and she talked me into acrylic instead of gel like I had planned. She cut up my nail beds and didn't apologize although I was clearly bleeding on more than one finger. The plan was to do gold leaf on every nail - based on her instagram portfolio she seemed perfectly capable of a little over-the-top design - and she took so long to do the shaping (for a simple ballerina/coffin nail) that we were only able to do 1 nail in the gold foil. The worst part is that she charged me $65 when the website says $45 for a full set, which I could understand if I got a difficult/time consuming shape or design but I didn't.
