We had a great time great room, best seafood buffet, good gaming. It would have been 5 stars if not for the fire scare in the middle of the night. read more

the first 5 floors of the parking garage where closed and i am disabled so it was real difficult to find a close parking spot. next the hotel check in was a long walk even for an abled body person. only half of the elevators where down so on a 35 story building it took FOREVER to get to your room. the when you finally make it to the casino the upper floors cashier and club member staion was closed so if you needed a new card or cash to you had to go down stairs all the way in the back of the casino and wait another 30 to 45 mins just to get to the counter. and all the escalators where broke going up and down and if you needed the elevator you had to wait until someone with a key would unlock it so you could get to the bottom floor, and lastly the buffet is still closed, the Monarch casino buffet was open i guess i should have stayed there all new hotel and food the reason i stayed at the Ameristar was i spent my honeymoon there almost 10 years ago it it was really nice then. read more

We had amazing customer service from the time we checked in. Our first room had an issue with the heater and the maintenance man came up and checked it and tried everything to fix it and then helped us move to anther room. We received a credit for the inconvenience. The spa was wonderful and the people were great. The casino rooms were clean and beautiful. read more

I have had friends and family who have RAVED about this place and how wonderful it is. My husband and I went up overnight and stayed at Ameristar for my husband's birthday. The hotel is beautiful and the people at the desk were very nice when checking in. When we got to our room it appeared that everything was very nice. As I went into the bathroom however I noticed that there was hair all over the floor and the counters and bathroom mirror were dirty. I was very suprised and started inspecting the room and it was very dusty with finger smudges all over. Since it was my husband's birthday we didnt not want to bother with changing rooms or dealing with managment on that day. The day after we had checked out and I called to notify someone of the cleanliness of the room. The gentleman that I spoke to at the front desk proceded to tell me that I should have said something while we were there and they would have moved us. When I tell him that I didnt want to deal with it on my husband's birthday he proceed to laugh at me and totally blow me off. I called back later to talk to a manager to hopefully get some sort of resolution. When the manager got on the phone I realized it was the same rude employee that I had talked to earlier in the day. I once again expressed my concern and he gave me some BS about telling the cleaning staff about the problem and once again he seemed completely unconcerned. This hotel is beautiful, but I am very disappointed with the way I was treated and the condition of the room. I will stay and gamble somewhere else next time we go to blackhawk. read more

Very nice casino. No smoking. Wish there was a hotel casino like this in Reno. Room was nice large.

My Husband and I came here for a little get away. The customer service that we received from Joseph was exceptional. We checked in and he helped us to our room and the room they assigned us was unavailable. Joseph apologized and said he'll take care of it. He was on it and took care of it like he said and got us in another room ASAP! I would definitely come back solely based on the customer service. Thank you Joseph! read more

The oatmeal is a joke it's tasted like rice when I order room service this morning they seriously don't know how to make oatmeal

I had heard this was the best place to stay in Black Hawk so I booked 3 rooms for 3 nights for a family trip. Everything was okay at check in. Staff was nice and helpful. Valet was always fast and attentive. Bell service was really good. My problem is that the rooms were not very clean. My room had garbage on the bathroom floor that remained the entire time we were there. Last day we were there my room was not cleaned so I had to call for clean towels, coffee, cups and toilet paper. My sons room has someone else's razor, shave cream, etc. in one of the drawers. Also had spilled food on the night stand. Really gross. I don't think I would ever book here again. If I did I would ask to check the rooms for cleanliness before signing on the dotted line. read more

this review is for the timberline grill, one word, AMAZING. service was great, wine was great, the steaks we ordered were cooked perfectly and the sides were amazing. when ever we go to back we will eat here. read more

Everything was excellent, from start to finish. The room was spacious, clean, nicely furnished, and beautiful. I seldom have reason to comment on a bathroom (unless it's dirty), but this one was was exceptionally nice. And the beds -- they were the most comfortable hotel beds ever! We ate at two of the restaurants, the Fireside Kitchen and the Waypost Deli, and the food at both was very good. Service was great, from check-in at the hotel, to the receptionists at the spa, to the servers in the restaurants, bars, and on the casino floor. No complaints. Hard to believe, but it's true. read more

Went up to celebrate my sons 21st birthday on 1 Aug 14. Check in was quick, rep was great very nice. Can't say the same about the other staff we interacted with. Our Room was ok, found the trash cans were not emptied prior to our visit, phone did not work and room temp was hard to control. The roof top patio was nice however the bar was to be open at 4:00, but it the bartender started setting it up at 4 so it was almost an hour before he was ready to serve. The two fire pits were not working, the front desk said they were aware of issue, nothing more. The DJ at 8042 was great, but the service was poor. Took 15 minutes standing at the bar to get four drinks, then two were not made well, one was a "signature" drink the other was a Martini. Food at the Waypost deli was great for a late night snack. Overall it was just ok. read more

Absolutely loved the water pressure in *all* of the bathroom sinks here. My hands have never felt cleaner! The soap and towels were average, I'd say... Not bad, but more just 'meh'. Don't let that take away from the water pressure though!!! read more

So I have to say I'm measuring my experience here against my stay at the La Fonda de Taos. Similar price point - definitely differences in attention to detail. At La Fonda which is a sweetly appointed boutique hotel - your every need is covered. The rooms are solid and soundproof, the bedding divine, and if your room has windows on the plaza they even provide earplugs for any noise that might disturb your slumber. At Ameristar the room is solid - I certainly don't hear my neighbors thru the walls. But from the hallway - every knock, every conversation, every maid making rounds, that comes straight into your room. At La Fonda I lacked nothing - went right outside my door in the morning in my pajamas to get a heavenly cup of java. At the Ameristar - uh no - have to get dressed and join the rest of the world. Now I know the differences have to do with size - and style. But for the price I want details attended to. I don't want to have to call the front desk because the remote in my room has no batteries. The Kleenex was almost empty and ran out. Now let's talk food - I can't compare the restaurant in La Fonda - too many other places to eat in Taos. BUT the Timberline Grill bills itself as a fine dining experience. Eh - not so much. When I order a filet mignon with an Oscar topping and the price is over $50 just for that one item - I expect a rich, velvety bearnaise sauce with my lump crab and asparagus. Instead I got a thin sauce that was overpowered by the too salty crab. Not the flavor combo I was hoping for. Then the $9 side of green beans with a morel mushroom sauce/gravy - this should be yummy! I could taste the Lipton soup mix used for the base of the sauce. The wine list - nothing too exciting - just decent. The service was great though - no lack of attention there. I just didn't have the heart to give the waiter my critique of the kitchen. So here it is - if you are going to bill as fine dining - get a sous chef who knows how to make a sauce and a chef who cares about the quality of the dishes going out of his or her kitchen. As for my daughter's short rib - we've had better at the Chop Shop in Denver for less than half the price. None of it was terrible - really it wasn't. We enjoyed our stay - it was "nice." Not exceptional. read more

We recently stayed a night at this hotel... a suite that was WAY more than I expected given the price. Granted, it was a week night and the price goes way up on weekends... but for $240 (approx.), it was well worth it. Our suite had a double-sided fireplace that I loved and a huge jacuzzi tub that I took advantage of. The room(s) were very nicely decorated and the main bathroom (yes, there were two) was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable and we loved having a Keurig coffee-maker in our little bar area. We've stayed in some really nice suites, including the Bellagio in Las Vegas which, until now, was my favorite. I loved the suite at Ameristar so much, my husband and I are planning to go back again next month for our anniversary. My only complaint is about the restaurants... we ate at both the Fireside Kitchen and the Timberline Grill and would not recommend either... if this resort had better restaurants to chose from I'd give this place 5 stars! read more

I had a amazing time at this casino, the staff was very helpful and the room was absolutely beautiful. We will be coming back!!

Don't trust the online booking system... The spa totally lost my reservation. Zero customer service. If you're not a gambler or using a players card, expect to be treated like a vagabond. Don't be suckered in by the nifty commercials and don't waste your time or money. read more

This is the BEST casino/hotel in Blackhawk. We have gone up there once or twice a month since we moved here in November. We are now getting comped rooms, which is awesome. The hotel is gorgeous, rooms are large, buffet is always good, pool on the roof is awesome, Spa is fantastic, and casino is clean, spacious, and smoke free. We love the fact that they are smoke free, as we moved here from Detroit that allows smoking in all their casinos. Views from the hotel rooms are nice. The housekeeping always has done a nice job with our rooms. Toiletries are high quality, and room service is speedy. We have gone to other casinos in Blackhawk, but never stayed at their hotels. but why would we??? This is the best!! read more

This review is only for the management, I just turned 30 this year, and we had my brother and sister-in-law visiting from out of state. We wanted to show them how the beauty of Colorado was carried out with this little town in the mountains, casinos and there happens to be great food here also all rolled into one location. We went to the buffet to enjoy their wonderful crab legs and buffet. Which we have done multiple times with out any issues. Afterwards I went to the restroom, as I walked out, one of them had place $1 while waiting and was just finishing up their game. As we stood there, an employee came up and asked for my ID. Which I replied to her that I didn't have it and it was in the car. I then said to her, if she still needed it that I would go get it for her to show that I was of age. Mind you I was standing there and not sitting down and playing. Which to my surprise she told me that I could not go anywhere and that I had to stay put. To which I relied to her then how can I show you my ID? We also tried to tell her that I just got here and we were leaving. She then began getting very angry about the fact that I was not complying with her. I then stated to her that she can't not demand that someone stand there and be detained without a reasonable cause and then not to give the person a chance to prove to her that I was of age. We told her that she could follow us to the car or get her manager to come with us so I could prove to them that I was of age. But she refused the option until we asked her to get her supervisor to come over. When the manger finally arrived we asked him to do the same, which he agreed to with out any hesitation. Long story short, there needs to be better training with your curtain staff if they are so ill fitted to handle a situation that was so easily resolved, if she had only take the time to listen, use her head and common sense. Unfortunately in the future we will not be visiting nor will we be recommending any others to your establishment. There are plenty of casino with wonderful restaurants in Black Hawk to enjoy. read more

The room was fine. The room service was horrible. Ordered food it took close to 2 hour to get there, it was cold, and the order was messed up. Had a great experience! Went the weekend of Nov 22. Went out to celebrate friends 21 who forgot their ID and only had their paper one. At first he was turned away from gambling but we were later stopped and the nice lady called a manager and he was able to gamble. Nicest management I have ever met, super understanding. Hotel room was great and clean! Pool was well maintained, waitresses worked super hard and deserved many more tips then they got for carrying around those heavy trays! Casino got pretty busy around 8-9pm but we were still able to find some blackjack tables to play at. Overall great experience, already planning our next trip out! read more

My wife and I just spent the night there. This review isn't specific to any particular details of the resort, instead it speaks to our experience there, and I have to tell you, it was one of the best getaways we've ever had in our 12 years of traveling together. We hadn't been away together in over two years, since our youngest was born. We finally got a chance to sneak away, and it needed to be a great weekend! From the moment we pulled into the valet, to the moment he brought the truck back around so we could load up and leave, we felt genuinely welcome and cared about. The dealers at the craps table were incredible. They were laughing with us, and they made my wife feel so comfortable playing for the first time. We will definitely be back! We would also like to thank the crew at Ameristar Casino Black Hawk for helping to make our weekend magical, and for helping us recharge and reconnect with each other on our weekend getaway! Thank you, thank you, thank you! -Kevin and Holly Olson read more

great time! great service! nice room! loved the spa did not like the sandals though ouch!

Highly disappointed in their mountain pine sweet. First off the jacuzzi did not work at all you could hear it trying to turn on but it absolutely would not suck any water in the inlet. The shower has spray nozzles that come out of the wall that are supposed to spray at you however they hardly work and make it to about your feet. It also took about ten minutes for the water to adjust from boiling hot to a comfortable temperature in both the jacuzzi and shower for some reason. Only the tv in the living area is HD and gets all of the channels. The tv at the foot of the bed only gets about 5 because it is not HD and does not recognize the channels. The only reason this deserves one star is the view and the kurig. At 350+ a night I would totally pass on this room and just get the standard. I will not be getting it again. Ameristar needs to step their game up I'm sure they make enough off the players to replace some shower heads a tv and a jacuzzi read more

Somehow this hotel got a 4-star rating from AAA, but I'm not sure how. The room was very large and nice. The maid service was extremely spotty and some days I didn't get any service at all and had to call for new towels and trash removal (I was there over a week). The restaurant food was uneven -- the steak was nice, but the seafood was pretty poor. On the other hand, I guess who goes to Colorado to eat the seafood? The Internet service was free but worth just that. Frequently -- especially at night -- it was overloaded and so slow as to be completely unusable. Next time I go to Black Hawk I will stay somewhere else. read more

We waited in line 20 minutes to check in, we were so excited to have a weekend get a away we opted for the 'best' room it was pretty pricey (The Mountain View) and the fire place didn't work...total bummer. We went swimming and the pool water ended up burning our eyes...The WayPost Deli was out of several items and the Chicken Strips were rock hard. All in all not an ideal get a away. read more

Was very disappointed with my attempt to stay the evening of 9/06/2018. Was driving toward the Denver area from Utah on my way home back to Missouri. Drove out of my way to see Blackhawk and Central City. While eating dinner I used my cell phone and attempted to make a reservation for a stay in a complimentary room at Ameristar. The internet signal was very poor. I was able to see I was eligible for a complimentary standard hotel room. So I went upstairs to the hotel lobby and asked the desk clerk to help me with my complimentary room. I showed her my cell phone with the comp rate. Gave her my players card and she then advised me the complimentary room was no longer available I would have to pay for a room instead. I asked "What? Are you kidding me?" The clerk was not rude by any means, but she was not very nice either. A rather cold and clinical approach to customer service. Well, after this encounter, I decided Ameristar and BlackHawk Central City were not for me. After such a lousy experience my family and I decided to leave the area and move on for another 100 miles east. Colorado is a beautiful state with beautiful scenery. It just does NOT seem to be a very friendly place though. read more

Very satisfied with my free room, free gambling rewards, and free buffet. I wasn't satisfied with security. We've gotten food poisoning TWICE here, once from the buffet and another time from the Timberline Grill. My husband and I had a really fun time here over the weekend. The room was clean and comfortable and the amenities were nice. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub were pleasant. Although, while in the hot tub a maintenance man dumped a bucket of chemicals in and while I realize pools and hot tubs contain chemicals, maybe wait until no one is sitting in it to let those dissolve. He actually dumped it about 2 feet from a person sitting in the tub and some of the powder drifted over to the man sitting, pretty gross and inconsiderate. We did experience a few other cons in the hotel and the area in general. Our room was adjoining, which apparently means we will be able to hear the people next to us very clearly. I accidentally knocked my suitcase against the door and that prompted the (I can only assume) intoxicated person next to us to knock on the adjacent door and loudly proclaim "I want to make friends". Needless to say my husband and I got very still and quiet. At another point we woke up around 4 am to a couple coming in who were not being particularly loud in a normal hotel room, but due to the lack of noise insulation we heard very clearly. This was a major downside to the hotel experience. I mentioned it to the woman at checkout and she said we need to make sure we request a non-adjacent room next time. In my opinion the hotel should tell you if you should expect additional noise and less privacy while paying the same amount. The other negative for us was that this hotel/casino is missing some really good dining options. We ate at the Timberline (rated number 2 in the area) the first night, decent meal in comparison, but used too much salt and garlic and the next morning ate at the Fireside kitchen (rated number 4), which was truly an unappetizing experience. That place was terrible, but that is a separate review. If you need food in this town go to the Mountain Mocha Cafe or the Burger Joint. If you expect to experience food as you would find in Vegas, do not come to this area. As far as we could tell there were only 2 restaurants that served good healthy food. The last part of this review is really just a admonishment of this hotel and all others in this area, they really need to invest in some good coffee. When we finally found the Mountain Mocha Cafe we both nearly dropped to our knees in relief. read more

Of the places we visited in the area this was definitely a downer. The place is not anything like a glamorous, fun experience that it advertises. After we entered one of the side exits was opened by what seemed like a drunk guy and a door alarm went off, loudly, until someone could shut it off. The staff interrupts you in the middle of wagering to ask for your id, when they could've said excuse me or checked before. The drink servers come around but are annoyed when you say nothing for me, thanks. But mostly the vibe we got was that the staff and management only care about how many people they bring in and money, not the experience. Not a place to come to have a great time. read more

Stayed here over the weekend. Thought it was nice until I decided to pull the covers up and noticed there was blood on the top cover. The dream of a peaceful Colorado vacation was destroyed the second we walked in the door. We waited 30 minutes to just check in - even with a reservation. From there we took a deep breath hoping it could not worse. And it did, more quickly than we ever expected. From a large red stain on the floor to moldy fruit from our room service breakfast, the agony never ended. Our standards are not overly high, but we did pay more for a luxury service and we received worse than any motel off any highway. At least those rooms would be clean once a day! Do yourself a favor and stay home, no one here would care (including a customer service team who didn't blink a eye). read more

This is a pleasant hotel, but lacking in a good restaurant. Also, kind of hard to find your away around. A gift shop with basics like wine, beer, pop, chips, etc. would be nice, but there isn't one, just a small "cart" with a few gift items. It is understaffed. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Bed is very nice. Valet parking required a wait, but easy enough. Plenty of slots but not enough of the really interesting ones like you find in La Vegas. Food in the fireside kitchen was inedible and took forever because the kitchen was overwhelmed with room service orders. Steakhouse food was mediocre. We didn't try the buffet. read more

If having the nicest hotel and biggest casino was all that mattered, Ameristar would win. Unfortunately, the customer service is very poor, especially compared to the other casinos in the area. After the drive up, I was in need of a restroom almost immediately upon leaving the parking garage elevators. As I exited the elevator lobby, I immediately turned right as the restroom sign told me to do. As I walk, I hear a woman's voice screaming "get back here" at the top of her lungs. Obviously, I don't think she's yelling at me since there are no women in my group, but as I turn to stare at the person bold enough to scream at someone like that in public, I see that it's a security guard stationed behind a awkwardly placed desk about 60 feet behind me. Now with my grey hair and beard, I am rarely confused for someone under 21, but sure enough, she wanted to check my ID. I expected her to at least be friendly and apologize for screaming, but I was wrong. She didn't say a word the entire time as she stuck a bright pink bracelet on my wrist. I brushed it off as I moved at an accelerated pace to the restroom, but to my surprise, I was stopped again by security, despite the bright pink bracelet peeking out of my sleeve. They asked me to pull my sleeve up to see my bracelet. I was annoyed at this point. After finishing my restroom business, I found a slot machine on the second floor that caught my eye. I played about $60 through without anything more than a $2 win and decided to move on. Downstairs, I browsed the table games but decided to wait until the crowds had moved on. Despite it being a pretty slow Saturday night, the tables were packed. I settled back in at a machine and played for about 45 minutes. I ended down about half. The biggest surprise was that I wasn't greeted by a single employee or approached by a single waitress the entire time I was in the building. Where is the staff? Even security was too rude to say "hi." Later that evening, I decided that skipping dinner was not the smartest thing that I'd done all day. As it was after 11pm, the only option is the Waypost Deli. Immediately, I noticed that the line was at least 20 people long and stretched back through the restaurant. I was about to suck it up and wait when I noticed that people were standing along the walls and sitting on the floor with their food because there were no tables! If this is what happens on an average night, what happens when they're busy? True to form, there were no employees around to ask for other seating options. I gave up and went home. I suggest that you walk around Black Hawk before deciding where to spend your money. Ameristar's hotel is fantastic, but the staff is consistently cold and uninviting. Clearly they don't train their staff on guest interaction and it shows. If it wasn't for the social media person tweeting "good luck" when I checked in on foursquare, not a single employee would have said something to positive to me. read more

I have been visiting Ameristar since they opened and always liked almost everything about the hotel and casino until Pinnacle took over. I am a "Preferred" card holder and got much better play points and always comped rooms until they took over. Now the offers are a joke. Almost full price on rooms, so I don't stay there. Threw in my card and played several times anywhere from an hour up to three hours at a craps table and was not rated at all and got no points at all because the pit boss screwed up. That NEVER happened before. I have noticed a marked lowering of overall service as well so I don't stay or play there anymore. Nice pool and hot tub, but you are more likely to see a bearded toothless hillbilly jumping into the pool fully clothed over the hot guy and chick in the commercial. YIKES! read more

I will start off by saying we had a great time on our mini getaway to Blackhawk. We enjoyed our stay at the Ameristar and had fun visiting the other casinos as well. One thing that was a little annoying was that our check in time was at 4 and we arrived about 4:30 and there was no room available. They did not offer to hold our bags and so we had to go back to the car with our luggage and I felt very uncomfortable leaving it in the trunk but because I didn't want to have to lug everything around had no other choice. We were given the option to receive a phone call when the room was ready but needless to say we never got the call and ended up making our way back to the check in desk. Our room was very nice! It was large and had a great view. We had the Centennial Buffet for dinner and were very disappointed, everything was dry and bland. We will pick a different place to eat next time! One thing that really made an impression on me was the number of employees who were talking amongst themselves and were really unhappy there. I felt uncomfortable... Overall the hotel was nice and the drinks are free so that's cool but we will check into another hotel next time! read more

I have been here several times for a weekend get away. Usually it is a great stay and everything goes smoothly. The trip I had last weekend was surprising because front desk staff was not as great as they usually are. Not only that but they did not survive our room the second night l. I'm not high maintenance and really don't mind using the same towels for two days or anything like that but when paying over 300 per night it would be nice to get refills on water. Soap etc. I usually fix my own bedding when staying at a hotel as well but it's nice when they go and touch it up. When I called the front desk they said it's because I had a do not disturbed sign up so they didn't service, but we left the room at 10am and did not come back for over 8 hours and ensured I took it down. They ensured someone would be up so we left the room again so it was not weird when they came and could do they're jobs in peace. Still, nobody came several hours later. For the price paid, it was disappointing. read more
