There was dirt on the bed, crumbs everywhere, and the room just did not feel like it had been properly cleaned before we arrived. I understand that hotels can occasionally miss something during housekeeping, but this was more than just one small oversight. When you're paying to stay at a hotel, especially for a birthday celebration, you expect the room to be clean and ready when you arrive. We ended up getting switched to another room, but unfortunately, that room had cleanliness issues too. The tub and toilet were dirty, which was extremely frustrating after we had already gone through the trouble of changing rooms. At that point, I was just hoping we could finally settle in and enjoy the night without having to deal with another issue. Then, the next morning, I woke up with bug bites on my legs and abdomen. I obviously can't say for certain what caused the bites or that there are bedbugs at the hotel, but given everything else that had already happened with the cleanliness of the rooms, it was definitely concerning and made me question the cleanliness of the room even more. That was not exactly how I wanted to wake up after coming here for my birthday. Unfortunately, even the actual casino came with its own issue because the craps machine ended up taking my money, and a formal investigation had to be done on the machine. I understand that technical issues can happen, but when you're already dealing with multiple problems during your stay, having another unexpected issue just adds to the frustration. I really wanted this to be a fun and relaxing birthday stay, but instead, I spent a significant amount of time dealing with problems that I shouldn't have had to deal with in the first place. Having to switch rooms because the first one was dirty, finding cleanliness issues in the second room, waking up with unexplained bites, and then having an issue with the casino machine made the entire experience feel like more hassle than it was worth. The pool, hot tub, and casino had some positives, but unfortunately, those things weren't enough to make up for everything else. This was my first time staying at Ameristar, and based on this experience, I don't think I'll be rushing back. I usually stay at the Monarch, and after this trip, I think I'll be keeping it that way. Upon my arrival he greeted me as I pulled up and quickly checked me in. The Columbine is Charming. The room reminds me of going to my grandmother's home. It smelled fantastic when I walked in the door. The bedding isn't the standard white. It's full of color, as are the towels. There is a kitchenette, small table, two burner stove, fridge, microwave, and a coffee pot. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The only thing that could possibly be improved was the paint that was peeling in the restroom probably from the steam and years. Nothing a new coat of paint couldn't fix. I would definitely stay here again. It was adorable, comfortable, and most importantly affordable. I appreciate the kindness of Sam, and hope to see him again when I visit the area.

We did not eat here however despite having a lot of reward points, but it is okay. Anyways overall we coined in 5000 points which is good and I ended up making a profit here which was nice. This was a devastating twist for our travel plans. I called Amy for lodging as we were trying to make our way and Idaho Springs since we had lost our camper and no place to stay. Amy was extremely professional and took immediate care of me and put us in the last air-conditioned room she had on a hot June night. The next morning, Rachel was extremely sweet to also take very good care of us bringing us ice and accommodating laundry needs. Check-in was fantastic, and the hospitality and friendliness set the tone for the entire stay. We stayed on the first floor in The Stanley, and the room felt surprisingly spacious thanks to the high ceilings. The bathroom was large, the room was exceptionally clean, and thoughtful touches were everywhere. The soaps were great, there were plenty of towels, and we appreciated having pour over coffee and creamers available both in the room and on each floor. They provide a couple of bottles of water and a lotion as well. One thing we really enjoyed was that the hotel never felt crowded or busy. There wasn't always someone stationed at the front desk, which may not be for everyone, but for us it made the place feel more like a home than a hotel. Coming and going felt effortless and comfortable. The location is excellent - just a block from Miner Street and easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and everything downtown Idaho Springs has to offer. The complimentary parking across the street was another huge plus, especially since free parking can be hard to find in town. The history of the building adds to the charm, and it's clear the owners have put a lot of thought into preserving that character while creating a comfortable place to stay.
