The staff is friendly, they welcome dogs like they are people and the place is clean! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. They have been effected by the labor shortage (down 15 employees) so, the staff that was working is doing amazing to keep guests serviced. The food is delicious and the drinks are perfect for an afternoon delight! I highly recommend checking this place out even if you don't stay at the hotel you can enjoy a quite breakfast, lunch or dinner in the cute Starter House. My only comment is that they don't salt or shovel the stairs and parking areas. The steps are metal and can get slippery. Also, they could use hooks outside in the hot tube area to place your items while you are in the tub.

Enjoyed walking to this spot, grabbing a delicious coffee and avocado toast! Loved that the patio was dog friendly and felt like the neighborhood hang out spot. Will be coming back!

First blush reaction is this is a very refreshed spot. The valley has (or at least I have) been waiting on the opening for a while. Unique draft cocktails and fresh Mid-century modern seating coupled with a mountain chalet feel make this a welcome addition to what is sometimes a dated valley. There are plenty of hands on deck as the opening is new so hopefully that continues at some level in coming months. For a hotel bar (and that's all I visited) this is fun and accessible. Park on street and enjoy outside seating if you don't want to be bellying up next to your neighbor. Additional fun - network here; somebody has something to share with you that may open your eyes to new perspectives

There's a computer in the lobby for use. There's laundry, pool, and fitness center on site. They are practicing social distancing therefore there were limits on the amount of people allowed in each area. Masks must be worn. There's also hand sanitizer available upon entering. Breakfast is still available for ordering and you must eat in your room. Size of the room was perfect. I felt I had plenty of space. There were two seating areas and a balcony for viewing outside. The bed was a bit hard. The pillows were standard. The bathroom was pretty big with a stand up shower. There was complementary soap, lotion, and shampoo. The whole room could use a thorough cleaning, as there were spots on the walls in various locations and dirt and grime in the shower. The floor was also noticeably dirty. I'm sure it's from snow shoes and boots. Overall I gave a few extra stars for the best service from the front desk and location as this hotel is Conveniently located across the street from a grocery store, a Starbucks, and also a Tubing area.

We were by the elevator though, but the room itself was large and fairly quiet even from the traffic. The breakfast had quite a decent variety, even GF bagels, oatmeal, and a variety of drinks to go with omelets and sausage, my husband liked the biscuits and gravy. I tried speaking to the breakfast lady because I wanted to give her a tip, but she looked so angry and just walked away, hmmmm. The pool was small but fairly clean, and our children enjoyed watching the Disney channel. But the towels were old and stained, the pull out sofa was TERRIBLE, literally the worst I ever had. There was no glass in the peephole and the refrigerator did not get cold.

Rooms were clean and well maintained, and had all of the basics you would need. Everything related to a ski day was nice here - had storage for skis and boots so that you didn't have to bring them to your room. In the morning they have a nice spread for breakfast including fruit and cereal, and also have some hot items including eggs, toast, sausage, and bacon. Definitely enough to get you fueled and ready for the day. Then there is a van they run that takes you right to the gondola leaving at 8:30, 9, 9:30. Taking the first van gets you there right for the start of day. And you don't have to worry about parking, walking, and paying at the resort. Rides back were at 3:15 and 4:15 which gave plenty of time at the mountain. I didn't get a chance to try the hot tub but it looked nice. There were some cozy spots in the lounge with fireplaces to sit and relax. And a ping pong table that a few kids were using to stay entertained. Parking here was convenient, and the location is good; very close to everything in Winter Park. Overall I was very impressed with this stay. I will definitely look here first when looking for a place to stay in Winter Park moving forward. I thought it was a fair value, and the amenities made for easy ski days where all I had to do was get dressed and show up to the van on time, and not worry about anything else.

The things that directly drove this 3 rating-the sauna and steam room at the pool/gym area was pretty crappy. It barely got warm enough to truly reap the benefits. The pool was also cold! We couldn't figure out why there was nobody in the pool and a group of 12 sitting at the hot tub. We quickly realized it was because the pool was freezing. The resort itself was dead which we heard was due to the lack of snow. When it's busy, I assume the pool and the hot tub area is a nightmare because it's small. The bar at the pool was also closed which sucked. The gym was okay but was missing some bumper plates and some machines were broken. It is definitely an expensive stay! We reported it to the manager who barely spoke english and then we reported to someone hire up and they came back blaming my kids. The place has gone down hill since we stayed there years ago. They reviewed video tape and admit that the only one in the room during that time was their employee. We had to cut our trip short and drive back to Denver the next day get medication for our son. The "management" team are all unprofessional and full of s&^t. I even reached out to someone at their corporate office who was insulting as hell accusing me and my family of trying to rip them off! We checked out early and there was NO attempt to make things right. Now whenever I hear someone thinking about going to DTR I strongly discourage them. They want to be a high end resort but their management is utterly dishonest, incompetent and insulting.

The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.

Ultimately I would have much preferred to have overnighted in the town of Grand Lake, Colorado...a lot closer to Rocky Mountain, NP. Unfortunately rooms were ultra expensive in that quaint little town, so I "bit the bullet" and drove 35 miles away to stay here in Winter Park. I spent $100 plus tax for a Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised how big the room was. Besides 2 queen sized beds, accommodations included a lounge chair, plenty of closet space and an extended area for the bathroom. The spaciousness of the room was absolutely the best part of the motel! I checked in relatively late evening (8pm) and there were no issues. Parking was free and right in the back of the building. Valley Hi is located in the center of Winter Park with plenty of options for food all over town. There is free continental breakfast and coffee offered in the morning with your stay but the following day I had a long drive and grabbed food on the road. Although I was ideally looking for accommodations within the confines of the western part of Rocky Mountain National Park, Valley Hi Motel was more than a suffice place to put my head down and rest for the evening. If you're exploring in the Winter Park/Fraser area, I'd give the green light to come here.
