Ate here before the Central City Opera. Sat at the bar, the service was fine however, being at the bar you may need to request a few items. I had the skirt steak salad, and it was very tasty. The skirt steak was perfectly medium-rare, and the veggies were fresh and tasty. Accompanied by an excellent glass of Malbec wine -- a great meal before the performance. Will be back, very convenient and tasty food.

We loved this place - the history, the live music and the food. And our server was a joy (Aspen). Had a tour earlier in the day and then stopped in for drinks, dinner and live music - with Amy Scott's Band (sorry forget the full name). Doesn't get any better. Great BBQ/food AND music - thank you!!

Historic and delish! I ordered the vegetable linguini and it was good except I don't think the wine was cooked all the way out of the pesto sauce which was served with it. Everyone else's food I tried was very good. This place is a little pricey for what you get so be aware of that.

I reccomend enjoying your meal on the patio!

Really love the bathrooms with dual sinks and the water pressure was really good in the showers. The bed was a little lumpy in the rooms we were in and the bed itself was very soft... There were some knicks and marks in the rooms too so I think they might need a little refresh soon. The mattresses in the rooms we were in really needed to be replaced. Good location and easily walkable to main street. Very easy access to get into the parking from the HWY and they have a Starbucks inside the property. Overall we had a great stay and will consider to stay again when we're in Black Hawk.

Some pros and cons from our stay (room 1014): PROS: - the promo included lowest room rate and $20 dining credit per day. A genuinely good deal for the price - the restaurant offers on site are pretty decent, varied, and reasonably priced for BH - staff was 50/50. Literally half were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, while the other half was borderline rude or incompetent - the amenities were a nice perk, including a rooftop pool, and two hot tubs (1 indoor 1 outdoor) - the room and bathroom were very spacious with both a shower AND a garden tub - there were public restrooms available in the hallway - the casino floor feels spacious and there is a good variety of slot machines and table games CONS: - Communication in general is very lacking: When we walked into our room there was no literature to showcase on site dining options, WiFi password, or amenities' hours/logistics. The room service menu is not available in the Penn app nor is much information provided about one's stay. We finally found a brochure at the front desk when we went to inquire about where to find a "do not disturb" hang tag (the app live chat was useless for any room information). Room service is upon request only, that info is also not available unless asking a front desk attendant. I requested a Penn play card for gambling, the attendant did not explain how to use it, so it took us two days to realize the card must be inserted in the slots the entire time you play to track usage. You can remove it only AFTER you cash out. - It's extremely frustrating to use the Penn play cards at the machines. We had to constantly try again and again as most readers do not see a card has been inserted. Some machines we completely gave up on... - The room was TIRED (both beds had mattresses which sunk from damage/overuse, both headboards had peeling faux leather behind the pillows, there was random scotch tape on the walls and some holes/dings, the toilet's door jam was coming loose from the wall, bathroom was not extremely clean (heavy dust coating on baseboards, hair on bathroom counter, etc) - Of of 6 elevators to the tower: 4 had broken LCD screens (making it difficult to determine at which level the car would stop), 2 made very concerning cable car noises (we begun avoiding them), all 6 were unsecured (guest key card access on cars was disabled; letting ANY casino patrons access the room floors) - the pool deck has posted adults only hours (daily 7-11pm) however, despite various staff walk through a dozen children were still splashing about at 8:30pm on Friday night - the vending machine on the pool deck was out of service and drinks ordered poolside through the QR code available on tables was not delivered to the pool deck (despite note of location in order) - the ice machine on floor 10 was out of order and no microwave was available in the rooms (or in the vending room) making it impossible to get takeout if one got tired of in house options. A microwave in the vending room would be a great addition - ambient music in the casino was great mid-week throughout until on Friday night at around 8pm it was set to blast and was along with the ambient slots noise it was no longer enjoyable. We left the floor shortly after - wait staff on the casino floor was scarce both on weekdays and weekends. It didn't seem they were circulating much, and when they did come by, they often skipped us (we are not big drinkers, so it was fine for us, but it left us feeling un-welcomed). Interestingly enough, for both drinks I ordered during my stay (handed a $5 bill for tip) I was asked if I wanted any change back :-/ - the floral scent that's pumped through the AC units on the casino floor can quickly become overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I understand casinos do this to cover up odors and have a 'signature scent' however a lighter less floral aroma may be a better choice Overall a good value for us (over low-occupancy days and with a good promotion) and a change of pace for a fun few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living.

It is a very charming place to walk around. The casino only has valet which is nice so you don't have to worry about remembering where you parked the car or having to walk back and forth in the weather. Each staff member we came across was very helpful and happy to greet you whether it was security, waiters, dealers, or custodians. The building seems to be new but well-kept on the inside based on the amount of business they were doing. The casino does have a player's club where you can earn the buffet and other rewards based on your playing mostly the slots. They had a huge variety of slots starting with penny machines all the way up from there. Some machines were all computerized while others were old school (my fav!). Machines let you play without just taking your money. I saw quite a few people when the jackpot on the machines. They were also having drawings for hundreds of dollars for being present and playing. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. We tried the other casinos but coming back to this one as it was so fun and clean.

Before booking, I called several times to confirm availability and finally got through to someone who told me there were openings at 2:45 and that I could finish the booking online. I completed the reservation online, entered my credit card information, and pressed complete, so I was surprised when I visited today to be told it appeared the booking had not gone through. When we arrived, the spa couldn't find our reservation and explained they'd been having problems with their new booking system. A few staff members even mentioned that other guests had experienced similar issues. My mother-in-law was visiting from Pittsburgh PA, and we had driven over an hour for the appointment, so it was really disappointing. We also ended up having to choose different services than we originally wanted because our massage reservation could not be found. Thankfully, the staff was very kind and did their best. They were able to fit us in for manicure and pedicure instead but a different times. The spa itself was beautiful and relaxing, and we still ended up having a nice experience overall. Shelly, our manicurist, was fantastic. That said, I truly never complain, which is why this was especially disappointing. I really hope management gets the booking issues sorted out soon because it put a damper on what was supposed to be a really special day. I also feel like some kind of gesture or acknowledgment would have been appropriate for the mistake. Overall, the staff and service were great, and if we had received the experience we originally booked, it easily would have been a 5/5.

We didn't have an ice bucket in our room and had to call down for one. The shower does not get that hot, which is frustrating. At check-in the lady didn't know how to work the key card machine. She only gave us one key card and it expired the next morning even though we were scheduled to be there for 3 days. There was a huge line, so we tried using the kiosk and it would not register either of our id's. So we got back in line and waited 20mis to get new keys (she was understandably checking in new guests, it just sucked to wait when we had somewhere to be and this could have been avoided in the first place). We ordered food from the room and payed for it with our card, but they also charged it to our room upon check out. The person at the front desk didn't know how to erase the charge, but called their manager who over the phone said they would take care of it. There are a few unsavory individuals that run around the motel. A girl and her guy friend that were literally rolling off of nitrous that she was actually carrying around in her arms going floor to floor during check out time. So...that was interesting. There's not a store or anything nearby, so if you needed something extra, other hotels in the area will actually have something. Also, there are some weird smells coming from the hallway near the elevator on the check-in floor.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES, DISCRIMINATION, AND STOLEN DEPOSITS - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!…read moreOh, If I could give this place zero stars, I would over and over and over. Our two-night stay cost nearly $1,000, and this hotel still decided to run a bait-and-switch scam to steal over $400 of my hard-earned money. Between the deceptive financial practices, the horrific customer service, and the blatant microaggressions, this was definitely the worst hospitality experience I've ever had. We usually stay at the Lady Luck, but we found a deal and thought we'd try this out. What a massive mistake. The games are nothing to rave about, either. The nightmare started the second we walked in. It was around 11 AM, and before we could even ask a single question about our reservation, a front desk agent named Kari snapped that we couldn't check in early, pointing to a "sold out" sign. Her attitude was snarky, dismissive, cold, and full of bare-minimum effort. We frequent Blackhawk at least twice or 3 times a month at minimum. However, with it being my brothers birthday weekend and he has never been to a casino - I thought a couple days on the mountain would be fun. My brother and I are Black, and my boyfriend is white, and the stark difference in how we were treated felt blatantly discriminatory. We all know what the predominant race is in this area. We should have known to turn around right then and there and stuck with what we knew. I booked through a third party site - which I have done countless times before. And you better believe we were treated like third class citizens. Prior to arriving, I called to find out the deposit. If you look on their website it shows no deposit. On the call, we were explicitly told there would be a total $150 hold total for both rooms. That was a lie. When we finally checked in, another desk representative, Mary Kay, swiped my card without ever telling me the final total. I only found out after the fact that she secretly authorized a hidden $205 deposit per room. Hiding a $411 pending charge until literally after a card is swiped is incredibly shady. Being from Texas, my brother unfortunately got altitude sickness during the trip. However, he completely cleaned up after himself. We specifically brought our own trash bags and Clorox wipes, making sure all trash was bagged and any trash was in the can. We had two double beds in our room and didn't even use the second one. I work in property management--I know exactly what "clean" means. The rooms were used for a couple of days like any normal hotel stay, but they were absolutely NOT trashed. We even took before-and-after photos and videos of the rooms because of the ridiculously high holding fee, figuring a little thing here and there wouldn't hurt, but knowing we needed to protect ourselves. We are going to enjoy our rooms if you are holding my money that we couldn't even use. Completely unexpected deposit and I only wish now that I had turned away. When we checked out no one was at the desk. It was rather early as I had to work, but still just before 9 nobody at the desk to checkout is pretty bad. No one emailed me a receipt. I had to call. Super sneaky. Turns out they had one r missing from my name when the clearly had my information with the correct spelling.. yet another thing that felt "off". I should have stuck with my gut. I could've received my credit for Hotwire and would've booked the two rooms at Lady Luck. When the pending charges posted today, I saw they kept the entire $411.88. I spoke with a representative named Holly, and then dealt with a supervisor named Tony "once he finished his lunch" I was on hold for nearly an hour total the three times I called to reach someone. Tony was incredibly rude, dismissive, lackluster, aggressively lying to me by claiming the rooms were "trashed" and took "longer to clean." Yes, we were in there for a few days, so of course it takes normal cleaning - that is literally what hospitality is. But using that as a fabricated excuse to steal a deposit is actual fraud. I will get my money back one way or another, and I will never recommend or stay at this horrible, swindling hotel. We will stick with Lady luck. We get our deposit back instantly. Grand Z and Maverick is a disgrace of a hotel/casino. With the Z Casino closing, they must be struggling financially, but you won't use unfair business practices with me. I am a licensed bettor, I know the ropes, and I am reporting this scam to the gaming board, my bank, and several other regulatory entities with my video and photo evidence attached.
