We had the best stay here, immediately upon arriving we felt right at home by the staff who were very welcoming. They truly thought of everything for our stay - they offered to carry us a tray of tea at night, they already had a fire set up and they made us to-go breakfasts the night before we left since we were leaving early the next morning. Lovely B&B with a fully vegetarian home-made breakfast, cheerful staff and daily morning meditation. Our room was in the cottage, not the main house, just above the meditation room. It was cozy and had a newly renovated bathroom with high end fixtures and a nice walk in shower. The best part about staying here are the personal attention, the incredible selection of lose leaf herbal teas and the breakfast that is served community style in the living room. It feels like you're eating at a friend's house. We had some delicious fresh gluten-free muffins. Pancakes looked fluffy and delicious, too bad I couldn't have them because they weren't gluten-free. Instead, they made me some scrambled eggs with veggies and GF toast. It felt very special and made with love. Free parking on property, and you're about a 20 minute walk from Pearl Street shopping. What a gem!! My husband and I were driving through Boulder and with just one day to stay, I am so glad we chose Briar Rose. Making a reservation was painless, plus they gave us a parking permit for our oversized vehicle since this have limited parking, and they had no qualms with our service dog. Breakfast was delicious and prepared with real style, you can tell that they take pride in what they do. It's a true treat to have access to unlimited tea and fresh cookies during the day too! It was perfect. Our small room opened up the the back patio where we enjoyed our leisure time. Also it's walking distance to plenty of restaurants and shopping. There are bikes to rent across the street, and the vibe is one you can't beat. Also!! They have a meditation room available! My husband and I took 20 mins of relaxing in silence before we hit the road, and it was just the bow to wrap up our stay. Definitely check it out! My fiance and I had a show to go to in Boulder, and instead of driving back to Colorado Springs late at night, decided to stay in town. We looked at hotels first, but then this little B&B popped up. We'd never stayed at one before, so we thought why not give it a try and I'm so glad that we did! The place is adorable and very, very charming! Not only is it adorable, it's very well kept and very clean! The staff was so friendly and professional. Our room was amazing and the bed was super comfy! It felt like we were staying at a friend's house rather than a hotel - but I suppose that's one of the charms about staying at a B&B! In the middle of the night, the hot water heater went out and the staff was quick to get it fixed and they discounted people's stays, which I thought was super rad of them. The breakfast was so good! It was definitely one of the healthiest breakfasts I've ever had, and not only was it healthy, it was tasty! We had veggies, eggs, fresh baked cranberry bread, fruit, and yogurt! They also had all kinds of teas to choose from. If I end up in Boulder again, I'm definitely going to book another stay! It was seriously lovely. read more

I am quite well-rested from the comfy bed and still quite sated from the ample breakfast. Briar Rose, for the win! The decor is like a stay at Grandma's place (if Grandma were a librarian and knew how to tastefully display her china collection). Books abound in the main living room and hallway. There were at least t ten in my room alone. I wish I had more time to explore and read. The location is perfect - Pearl Street is definitely walkable. However, if you'd rather hang out at The Briar Rose, they have plenty of seating areas - large and small - indoors and out (and clearly, plenty of books to read). The best part, however, were the people. I arrived late at night and was greeted by a letter welcoming me and explaining (in crystal clear detail) how to find my room. I've thought of bed and breakfasts as more akin to staying with friends than staying at a hotel. Perhaps they're the capitalistic/enterprising version of CouchSurfing. And as we would overlook the dust bunnies lurking in the corner of your old college roommates third-floor walk-up, I suppose I'm expected to be more understanding of the shortcomings of a B&B. And so I will. The Briar Rose has really great, friendly staff that are, at once, both familiar and professional. That said, it's my opinion people should not be barefoot at work save a few occupational exceptions that don't include innkeeper. As was explained to me, Briar Rose is a zen based business. While I'm not exactly sure what that means (other than the fact that they have a meditation room), I learned they offer no meat products during meals. This might not be important to most, but to me it was alarming. As blood is to a vampire, bacon is to me. Among my traveling companions, there was a vicious (and later debunked) rumor that Briar Rose didn't offer coffee. See what happens when I'm denied bacon? I've never been a fan of that country-styled decor so common with B&Bs. Sadly, Briar Rose is no exception. The rooms are clean, but could use just a bit of updating. Unfortunately, the road and street noise can't be remodeled away. Arapahoe (and to a lesser extent 22nd) are both very busy streets and the noise carries easily into the rooms I visited. The front yard garden can be nice (if they ran a (push) lawnmower through it more often) and the tall hedges enclosing the space block views of the passing cars. However, the road noise can't be masked. As a result, visitors shouldn't expect to relax in the garden. But they do have wifi, just like my old roommate's flat. read more

LOVED this place. Excellent tea selection and service with a great location to the university and shopping. We had good parking and enjoyed our quaint and cozy room. I sort of felt they were stingy with breakfast, it was like the owners told the service staff to be sure not to waste ANYTHING, which I agree with, but at the same time a satiating breakfast is important to begin a full day of exploring. There were cookies and breads out all day, which sort of makes up for that. I also wish where was non dairy creamer for my coffee, which a place like this (Zen focused) should have... They did have soy milk, but for coffee that doesn't cut it! In any event, I would definitely go back (and bring my own creamer). I recommend this wonderful little place to anyone wanting to explore Boulder or enjoy Zen meditation. read more

Homey, comfy inn. The decor is mostly unpretentious. I say 'mostly' because I found their zen meditation and eco-green routines something of a gimmick. even so, these displays are not so ostentatious as to be distracting. And for a B&B, it's not fussy or dowdy. Despite its traditional furnishings, it is firmly planted in modernity. They have two public computers and a printer for its guests; plus, the whole house is wifi-ready. The bed is very comfortable -- plush pillows and airy cotton sheets. I usually don't sleep well on my first night of arrival, but at the Briar Rose, I zonked out even after consuming a whole pot of tea. Oh, and that reminds me: for an inn, their tea selection is *awesome*. You can also request gourmet hot chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed my pot of spicy Mexican chocolate. The breakfast is good, but not fabulous. You can expect: organic everything. They also bake their own granola, which is kind of nice. The egg dishes were more cooked than I liked. Of the five mornings I spent there, my favorite was their pancakes. The inn is conveniently located, within walking distance to the Colorado University campus (though it involves going up a pretty steep hill), and the Pearl St., a pedestrian shopping/restaurant area. Overall, I was happy with my stay at the Briar Rose. If I were in Boulder again, I'd definitely stay there; however, I'm not in love with the inn enough to travel there just for the inn. read more

This is the best place to stay in Boulder ..... We have very high expectations when we go on vacation and this amazing bed and breakfast is the most lux and relaxing place we have been..... The whole place is beautiful and the folks who run the establishment are practicing Buddhists so that gives briar rose a very welcoming atmosphere. We stayed in the Huron room and the bed was soft with fluffy pillows.... We had a private balcony over looking the courtyard, which was beautifully landscaped, we had tea service and some meals there and it was wonderful .... Our room had a private jacuzzi which was a great relaxing extra for us. If you love classy and environmentally friendly you have to stay here !!!! read more

Kind hearted, friendly, yet relaxed staff & owners, walking distance from downtown, sustainable focus, beautiful meditation room, delicious organic breakfasts, awesome tea selection, computers with wifi, clean, warm and cozy... they even had a bike they let me borrow. Basically if I could have made up my ideal B&B this is what it would be. One example of their generosity was when i was running late for an interview and one of the owners gave me a ride instead of letting me wait for a taxi... things like that just don't happen when staying at big hotels. Briar Rose gets five stars, hands down. It combines the comfort of an old style New England inn with a zen attitude. Homeade breakfast, zen meditation offered every morning, incredible location, and a staff that aims to take care of you (and I mean really take care of you). I feel at home here; whether in my bedroom, garden, or living room. Morning is a delight, in which the kitchen provides an unending array of treats, from organic vegetable scrabble finished off with garden fresh chives to homeade breads and cookies. The rooms are simple and beautiful, as is the zen way. I would highly reccomend joining in on the zazen meditation each morning at 6 AM. Briar Rose is such a cute little bed-and-breakfast and my husband and I have stayed here twice in the last couple of years as a quick staycation. It's located in a really convenient part of town on a quiet street, and it has its own small parking pad so you don't have to worry about street parking. As far as the bed-and-breakfast itself, it's like you're staying in someone's house with a lot of neat little sitting areas to just relax or talk, including a really pretty outside garden area. As the name suggests, they serve breakfast to the guests in the morning, and the food was very good. They pride themselves on using organic, sustainable food in their preparations. I believe all the food was vegetarian, but that didn't bother me at all. It was very fresh and good tasting. They also have little cookies/treats out in the dining room area throughout the day for you to munch on. Also they have an awesome selection of teas and they will make you a pot of tea most hours of the day, even delivering one to your room. The rooms are decent sized, and very clean and comfortable. There are really nice restaurants very close to Briar Rose, and it makes a great quick getaway. read more

It's like a home away from home - if that home was beautifully furnished, had fresh baked cookies and the world's greatest tea selection, and a friendly staff to meet your every need. It has been a few weeks since I was at the Briar Rose B&B (March 2019). It was the warm atmosphere, the efficient, kind (and caring) staff and my cosy "Crestone" room that took precedence over other events that were going on during my week in Boulder. The comfortable, pleasant base I had allowed for the rest to happen smoothly, taking into consideration having just lost a dear godmother. This was a great last minute find on our way through Boulder CO. I've been to several B&Bs before and this is defiantly on the top of the list. The breakfast was also very amazing. They didn't tell us what time it ended and we came out about 5 minutes late and got 'scolded'. However, they ended up serving us in the end and it didn't put a damper on the experience. I must take issue with r.h.-from-Pittsburg's accusation that the zen and eco-friendly aspects of Briar Rose are gimmicks. The owner has been the senior monk at the Boulder Zen Center for several years, everything you eat there is organic, they refill larger bottles of shampoo, lotion, et cetera instead of using wasteful and package-intensive single-use items, they compost food refuse, they use a human-powered push-mower to cut the grass, and so forth. This eco-friendly business is a reflection of the eco-friendly people running it. Many of the staff are students at the nearby Buddhist university and all of them are genuine, friendly and very courteous. I found the Briar Rose to be very comfortable and charming. Beautiful, fresh flowers decorate the rooms and common areas. They do a great job of secluding the property considering that it is right on a busy street, and until humans can shroud an area in silence by sheer will, I won't hold the noise of Boulder against them. You can put out your "Do Not Disturb" sign and they actually respect it! You can get a tea tray delivered to your room or out on the patio or in the yard, and select from a dizzying variety. The morning staff will happily prepare an egg breakfast any way you like with your choices from the day's selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses and yogurt. They also have really yummy home-made cookies. This was my first visit to the beautiful, friendly and energetic city of Boulder, and the Briar Rose Bed and Breakfast was an integral part of the positive experience. read more

I've been to a fair share of bed and breakfasts so I've come to expect a certain level of warmth and invitation from innkeepers and staff. Unfortunately, the Briar Rose staff appears to be a bunch of college kids who haven't been trained to make guests feel welcome. Pluses: the rooms are comfortable and nice enough, cookies & tea are available most of the time (though staff was not always friendly when asked to make tea). the sitting room is nice and was usually empty the 5 days we were there. the office stuff and free wifi was handy (business trip). Minuses: the cookies were so so (except for one batch of great shortbread that the staff said were "overcooked" though it was obviously a totally different recipe from the other shortbread cookies in the jar), they didn't clean the bathroom every day!, at breakfast, service was TERRIBLE. Sometimes they would forget to offer you stuff and then made you ask for it even as they offered it to the other people sitting at the table. And they wouldn't accommodate our "early" morning meetings and make us the promised egg dishes 15 minutes before they normally would be serving them. And their touted "amazing" breakfast egg dish was a simple scramble of eggs that they threw some ingredients into without thinking about how they melded. One morning the night staff forgot to tell the morning staff that they had okayed us to have breakfast 15 minutes early and we got some attitude when we sat down. What kind of hospitality is that? On their website, the describe how close the place is to a great running trail and yet none of the staff I asked were able to tell me how to get to the trail. One woman explained that she "was new", but didn't offer to go find the information for me. B&Bs are all about the food and the service, that's why we pay more to stay at them. A must-stay for anyone traveling to Boulder! There are so many small touches to this place that make you feel at ease. When you check in, you get your choice of green, black or herbal teas. You may also run into a super cute guy (one of the staff) prepping for the next morning's organic breakfast. The rooms are comfy and have a/c, with a sprig of wildflowers on the bedstand. They're also environmentally conscious -- the amazing breakfast is all-organic, and they use environmentally-safe products. And yes, there's free wifi around the whole property! read more

Simply fantastic in every way - Briar Rose is a rare find! Amazing staff, first-class breakfast, wonderfully comfortable and beautiful rooms! Our air travel into Denver was delayed several times and we didn't arrive to the Inn until very early in the morning. When we entered through the fence and arrived, all of the stress of our day melted away into pure bliss. This is an excellent way to relax and enjoy all of the beauty Boulder has to offer. I've stayed at the Briar Rose maybe a dozen times or more over the past five years. I always find the service very friendly, and accommodating as anywhere I've been. I like the homey elements: the comfy couches, the packed bookshelves. I like the free wi-fi and the two computers and a printer made available for guest use. I like the location. Sometimes, I have to admit, the staff can seem a bit green--was someone really walking around barefoot? But high thread counts on the towels and sheets, the spotless cleanliness, and the feeling of being welcomed after long travels more than makes up for that. I frankly don't see what's pretentious about having a meditation room, and it's certainly not a gimmick. The owner of the Briar Rose is ordained as a Zen monk. People from the community meditate just about every morning. Guests are invited to join during those early morning times or use the space for quiet contemplation when they like. I love the idea, and wish there were spaces set aside for this kind of down time. All in all, the Briar Rose gets an enthusiastic five stars from me. read more

We had a lovely one night stay at the Briar Rose with friends. Our friends had an outside door to their room which lead right to our private parking place. So convenient since it was cold and snowy. We were first put in an upstairs room with very long set of stairs but were kindly moved to Blanca on the ground floor. Very nice room with a wood burning fireplace, all necessary items provided. We didn't need it but there was a very unusual air conditioner on the wall so you can see they are prepared for all kinds of weather. Coffee and tea was available all day and all night which we really appreciated when we came back on a cold, snowy night. The homemade cookies were a wonderful addition as well. Our bed was just right and there a variety of pillows, great for a person like me who prefers a firm pillow. Enjoy the Briar Rose whenever you visit Boulder. read more
