Stayed here for a business trip and I thought the hotel was very nice. Staff was very friendly and responsive. I lurked around a bit and found a few things out of the casino area. The pool on the 34th floor - incredible and then go outside to sit in the hot tub and enjoy the mountain views. The Spa looked very nice but I didn't make it for a massage so can't really comment. The meeting space - Summit room was huge and off in the hotel area so it was a fall down the elevator and I was at the meeting area - nice and easy. The casino was the nicest in Black Hawk and the staff was attentive and friendly. Lots of tables, video poker everywhere and of course slots. We had a nice suite for lodging and it was a very big room - bigger than my appt in college - a nice fireplace in between the sitting area and bedroom. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a destination casino. read more

First time here and must say its the better of the casinos in the vicinity didn't win much but the drink accommodations were old school In a good way in which they didn't make you make a arm and a leg for a drink. Girl was great and always served me and a buddy of mine pretty attentively. He was on a roll on a card game so most of the people were here . I'm mid 30s and there were some my age here . The other nearby casinos were either dead or bunch of old timers. Glad we chilled at the ameristar. read more

Nice hotel and Casino, but.. the shower in our room was dirty, the TV is bullshit. No local channels, and it is impossible to navigate through the channels. We ate at the buffet, it was quite a spread and food was OK. Can't see us coming back here again. read more

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here. Clean rooms, extremely spacious, great staff. We had a blast in the casino all night long. My only suggestion would be a little direction in the casino for beginners. It can be overwhelming and confusing if you don't know what you're doing. Still five stars as we had all kinds of fun. read more

Uptight , where can I hang out with my teenage daughter without getting hassled by a mallcop

Harrassed by security for ID when simply walking between the parking garage elevator and the hotel.

We come here often. When booking our rooms they never explained that you get charged an additional 14 for the pool and hot tub. They stated it is not an option. Really, than you should include that in the room. We are awoken by a jackhammer. They stated yeah that's the city doing work . So we decide to go to the pool since we had to pay for it. No towels. I called they said housekeeping is bringing them. An hour later no towels. They do not care about customer service at all. Guest stays are no longer a priority .I can't wait for another hotel to open up because this will be the last time I stay here. read more

My husbands company held their Christmas party at the Ameristar last night. It was our 1st time at the Ameristar and our 1st time staying in Blackhawk. The Ameristar had amazing food for a buffet and our room was lovely. We are not really gamblers but we enjoyed the band that played all night. Wish we had time for the hottub and a spa service. read more

What a great time, my wife is from Asia, always disappointed this time of year, missing Chinese New Year, but what a spectacular celebration Ameristar put on for Chinese New Year, my wife said, "finally, I feel like Happy New Year", the dancers, the food, very authentic. The best Blackhawk has to offer. The food is great, ambiance is excellent, staff is very friendly. I know it is silly, but I really appreciate the self-serve beverage stations in the casino. They're a nice amenity that the other casinos don't have...and the drinks keep me happy, which makes me stay longer, which ultimately pays off x 100 for the casino. So, good planning on someone's part. read more

This was our 3rd stay at Ameristar (4-12 & 13). It will be our last. All the TV's were "down", displaying only a few channels (they said they were upgrading to HD-- I think they just wanted us on the casino floor!), there was a major leak in the hotel the day before so the water was turned off temporarily at 11:00 am for repairs, the ice machine on our floor was broken, the shower faucet required herculean effort (I had to turn it on and off for my wife), the thermostat could not be adjusted, maid service didn't arrive until mid-afternoon (nap time for us older folks), many of the "hot" items on the buffet were lukewarm to cold (BTW, WHAT crab legs?), very few 25 cent or less traditional slots (video rules the day). A few positives: a discount for vets at the buffet, well-apportioned rooms, nice view, ample parking. Beyond these, not worth the hefty $105/N room charge. read more

Today I was having a really nice time with my husband. A waiter comes and offers me a drink and I said no. Then she gets aggressive about the area being restricted to people that are 21 years or older. We look at each other like huh? She demands to see our ID's in a very aggressive way. I am 31 and my husband is 34 y/o. We show her the ID's and then she just abruptly leaves. This lady was awkward and rude. I would have give them 4 but downgraded to 2 due to lack of professionalism and interrupting me in the middle of my game. read more

I NEVER write a Yelp but at the cost of $300 plus a night i had to..Very clean hotel, rooms are spacious, HOWEVER.....if you are looking for a good night sleep at a nice hotel this is not it.. I thought I was sleeping on a Sleep Number Bed MINUS the sleep number... our bed was completely broken. It was elevated at the foot of the bed and sunk in in the middle. The second night we had to sleep on the opposite end of the bed ( our head at the foot of the bed). We had a room with 2 beds our friends in the other bed felt like they were sleeping on a board that was about to give out. Second night they were sleeping sideways on the bed. Saturday we woke up very sore. Sunday was very hard getting out of bed. I literally feel like I have a pinched nerve in my back & neck. Pillows were VERY nice. I think they were to help cover up the pain you are about to endure. Very very disappointed... read more

Big changes on the property, stayed for 3 days last year and had the most wonderful vacation would have received 5 stars clean, family friendly wonderful staff. Fast forward 1 year almost to the day, dirty rooms ..we have been here 2 days so far and house keeping has not cleaned our room yet, and the staff has not receptive to our issues concerning this, both my wife and I spoke with both the day and night managers and we are still waiting for a clean room. We are traveling with an 11 year old child who is basically only allowed in our room, the pool and 1 restaurant, the 3 other restaurants are now off limits to minors. When we spoke with management they said it had been clearly shown on their website up until recently because this policy had been in effect for some time now so they took it down. At this point we were told that we could not state our grievances any further with the staff at the front desk and that we had to have our travel concierge contact Ameristar regarding our issues, which they graciously did only to fall on deaf ears. I will never recommend an Ameristar property to anyone again I feel they only want your money not your satisfaction as a host at $350 a night we paid or $85 a night as a host you would think you may have respect for your guests issues. read more

Been going to Ameristar for many years. So glad it is open and trying to take care of everyone but there has to be some common sense involved. My father who recently broke his hip and had a hip replacement at 86 years old, was up there yesterday and has to use a special elevator to get to the different floors. We were getting ready to leave in 30min and meeting our party at the top of the stairs and were told if we went upstairs we were not able to play the machines because the casino was at capacity. What? Seriously? We were already part of the capacity. Then when my dad had to use the restroom, they told him NO! He was not able to use the closest bathroom, he had to use the one farthest away, because the closest one was inside their full capacity area! Really? We had just pumped a bunch of money in their machines for hours and now my handicapped father couldn't use the closest bathroom and we were leaving. Where is the humanity and common sense in that. I was disgusted and will not go back. Monarch and the Isle are looking great to us and will have our business from now on. read more

We stayed here on Sunday, February 18 as complimentary. Rooms are run down and service isn't as what is used to be. The pool was ok, there were glass outside the patio by the hot tub. One of the kids there complained he had a cut from the glass. Slots were not lose at all. Worst of all I was charged $84! When called to ask what the charge was for they said it was for eating at their Fireside Kitchen. Beware of staying here as they are not very secured when charging things to your room. I told them I never even stepped a foot in Fireside, how can they just charge it to some random room like that. She said they just simply say your room number and it is charged to your room. I asked for a receipt and she said they can not obtain it as they probably trashed it already. She didn't sound like she believed me but she said she will refund me a credit anyways. We'll see in 5 days. If you stay here don't do express check out as you never know what charges they may put to your room without any identification. read more

Place looks amazing. That's 2 stars. Played for an hour before getting a drink. In that hour played multiple machines with hardly a bump on the slots. Tight as you can get...and that's all of black hawk. Go to a casino in OKLAHOMA and you will see people winning jackpots left and right, getting huge hits and making 200 dollars last....not here in Colorado though. 200 bucks lasted maybe 10 minutes. 500 bucks gone in 30 lol and dont get me wrong we came expecting to lose our money but we came to play and have fun. Problem is, in the first 3 hours weve been here we havent seen one person hit a jackpot. No machines are hitting and these places are packed! We went to the " popular" places youd read about...none seemed to be paying out much of anything. I played at the lodge because we are use to playing larger machines 10 and 25 dollar machines but took baby steps on their 10 dollar machines...not one bump. Not one. If you gamble you know you will have to spend a bit to get a decent hit and come up. Here sadly you spend...and spend some more then if you spend anymore you feel like a sucker. Not worth it. Took a step down and played a 2 dollar machine. Put in 100 bucks, max bet doesnt work. Tried some more at 1 bet and still...nothing. Tried another nothing. Sat back and watched a half dozen other guys play and lose their asses also. You get my point. Indian casinos you can win and PLAY for hours on just a couple hundred bucks and see people winning! These small town money holes in Colorado are all crap. The scenery is awesome. Drinking is limited you have to buy your drinks to get drunk. Now if you play to not win and dont mind playing the old machines that keep you winning just enough to keep playing a few extra hits this place is okay. Never wasted as much cash without being able to play...Stayed at the Grand Z. Just okay. Again, just here for the drinks apparently lol! No ones winning anything. Checked in at 4pm, now 9:30pm and 1500 in the hole...wait 2000, cuz I had to buy drinks to get service and the room...Haha, two nights payed for...looks like sight seeing tomorrow. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME read more

Let me start by saying the parking is convenient. Besides that the problems began at the elevator. First, if you're going to make a good impression, vacuum and clean. There were cigarette butts and trash strewn all by the elevators near the parking. The staff don't make you feel welcome. We were dressed great for a friend's early bday party and yet it took forever to get a drink. The servers act as though they deserve a big tip regardless of the service which is mediocre at best. This is one of the tightest places in terms of games. Forget it, and play a casino game for fun on your phone. Don't waste your money here. read more

Ameristar is a nice casino and hotel. We stayed one night and had a great experience. The pool and hut tub were amazing, timberline restaurant (first floor) was awesome and overall, the casino had a good atmosphere. I arrived 10/29/2020 to take advantage of the resort swimming pool during the cold time in Colorado in October. I checked in advanced and was notified the hot tubs were closed due to Covid-19 which is completely understandable. When I checked in my room, I got ready for a nice warm swim in the swimming pool...but when I to the swimming area, all the lights were turned off, and was not very inviting. I thought it was closed but it was early in the evening. I still felt comfortable enough to go in the water. I took one jump into the water before checking the temperature and I was shocked how cold the water was! The water was freezing and not close to room temperature. With the hot tubs being closed, I assumed the pool would have been turn up to room temperature, if not warmer. I immediately got out and went to my room and took a hot bath. I did not get to enjoy a swim and if I had known, I would have got a less expensive room somewhere else since I didn't get to swim which is why I went to this resort. read more

Super nice rooms, hot tub on the roof outside... My gf and i love this place when we can get up to escape.... Will definitely be back.

Would give it a zero if I can. Have been coming to this place for many years now now. I feel completely discriminated and was not even given the opportunity to tell what happen but just instead management choose to support their employees and kick out their customers. I will never come her again and and support this place. I am completely disgusted by management and the way they handle things. Take a look at what's right and wrong before just solely trying to back up your employee. read more

so not impressed. called to ask about room rates and specials and was treated so rudely and horrible by the lady or girl that answered the phone. I've been trying for 4 days to talk to a manager and they don't think its important. Finally today I talked with someone not sure if she is a manager of not and when I told her what happened she laughed. Really I didn't think it was very funny. So sad that you don't think it is needed to treat your customers with respect. After all without customers none of you would even have a job. read more

I've stayed at the Ameristar several times and look forward to it each and every visit. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I recommend the food at Fireside and Waypost, but have never eaten at Timberline. The Centennial Buffet is only worth it when free with 25 base points. Sometimes the lines are very long, so bring a book or play games on your phone. The rooms are clean and the beds are beyond comfortable. The bathrooms are awesome and the soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion samples are nice. Every room has a free (empty) mini-fridge so you can bring snacks & drinks to enjoy while watching the big, flat screen HDTV. Definitely the nicest rooms in Blackhawk. I enjoy the drink stations, but agree with the reviewers that alcoholic drinks served to slot players are few and far between. Normally I drink their free ice tea, or walk across the street and get Pepsi from The Lodge. My favorite part of staying at the Ameristar is the pool and hot tub. If you want to avoid the crowd, swim or hot tub within the first 2 hrs in the morning or swim after 9 pm when the no kids policy is enforced. Both are open until 11 pm. The hot tub is crowded with young, drinking party goers in the evening, but I've never found them rude or overly loud. I gamble at least 50% of the time at The Ameristar because I love the atmosphere and the hotel. read more

Very frustrated with my stay at the hotel. We had dirty feminine products left in our bathroom upon arrival. My husband and i absolutely love this hotel! We went for our first anniversary and had a blast. When we checked in and they found out it was our anniversary they upgraded us to an awesome suite with double sided fire place, big flat screen TV's, jacuzzi tub by the window with a great view, etc. and the room number was 2411 which just happens to be our wedding date 9/24/11, we thought that was so cool. We had alot of fun gambling and all of the staff was super nice! We are definitely coming back every chance we get. read more

Tonight was my third visit to Ameristar and I was once again disappointed. Needless to say we will not be returning. They offer little compensation for mistakes made on their part. I was overly shocked at the lack of service throughout this entire casino. I was I.D several times and was stopped by a running security guard saying, "MAM, excuse me! I need to see your I.D." I was embarrassed. The only slot we wanted to play was over populated and the couple playing them put paper on the screens when they left to use the bathroom or smoke, no body did anything about that which was just plainly rude. How do you let people get away with that? Don't you want people to gamble there? We tried to eat at the buffet as we just opened up a club player card but it was past seven P.M and we were so hungry and the line wrapped around past the Timberline grill so we decided to eat there instead. Even though the restaurant looked half empty they told us it was over an hour wait. I suspect it was due to our clothing, we were not in a tie and suit or black evening gown. When we returned for our reservation at 8:45PM we still had to wait an additional ten minutes before anyone greeted us at our table. A young woman dashed by and plopped a basket of rolls on our table although there was only two rolls in it. No one gave us more rolls through our entire meal. It was so loud in the restaurant that we didn't talk throughout our entire meal even through it was half empty they seated everyone on the same side of the restaurant. The restaurant is VERY over priced. I ordered the pasta primivera although it was covered in butter and undercooked vegetables with no meat it was twenty dollars. It tasted very bland and I was so disappointed as I was starved. The manager popped by for a mere second and asked my husband how his meal was and my husband said, "Mine was good but hers..." And the manager nodded his head and walked away. Just awful. My husband loved his salmon although for thirty dollars a plate he received less than 6oz of salmon which I was appalled by. My husband wanted to treat me so he ordered my favorite cake, carrot cake. It was warmed with hot icing and it was awful. When the waitress came to pick up our plates finally, she asked if I wanted the pasta in a a box. I told her, "If you want although I didn't care for it." She than asked me why I hadn't said anything before and I just shrugged my shoulders out of pure irritation. She did remove the disgusting pasta off our bill but the facts still remain, poor food and terrible service. Not to mention the food upset my stomach so badly I've been visiting the restroom every half hour since I've been home. If you want to gamble, don't do it here. Their machines do not pay out. The entire casino is so over populated and people are screaming in the casino but I don't see anyone winning. I am so disappointed by this entire experience. Save yourself A LOT of money and don't bother. Good luck and best wishes. read more

This is a curious place. Setting like countless towns in Co., especially in the Rockies is lovely, tucked in a canyon... Streams, forests. And here a pit stop of a postage stamp-sized L Vegas mini village on a small interstate. But B version. The Ameristar hotel/casino is as follows: Casino is a C; the restaurants are B to C, the hotel proper/rooms a B+ (modern, clean). Hotel is a skyscraper in relationship to the small hotel/casinos next door. We won a 2 night stay at a Charity auction. Otherwise, we would prefer more a more natural inn or b&b. read more

Checked into my room and it was dirty. Half used shampoo, old toothpaste on the counter. Random paint can handle on the floor. Glad I didn't step on that! Took a bath and had to hold my foot over the drain because the plug didn't work. I might not have noticed the roach crawling overhead if my husband didn't point it out. And yes, I did take a photo to send to management. Service...well...not like it is in the city. Bartender was angry after I walked to his well and asked for a drink. Yelled at me when I told I had been waiting for a long time for a drink. He said I was a liar and that he will have me kicked out of the hotel. I spoke with his manager and plan to contact corporate. This is unacceptable!!! I have stayed in this hotel multiple times, and will never be back. I WILL tell everyone I know to avoid this place!!!! read more

Went to Ameristar in BlackHawk over the weekend for husband's birthday. The rooftop pool and hot tub were very nice. The room was also very nice. The bars and restarurants are extremely understaffed. My husband and I were sitting at a bar in the casino. We were not playing video poker, we were paying for our drinks. The 2 video poker machines we were at said "not in service" We had been there for an hour when a guest and an employee come over and told us we had to leave because this man had the video poker games reserved for him and his wife. We have been to many casinos in Vegas and in Black Hawk and Central City. We have never ever seen someone "reserve" a video poker machine by having it turned off for over an hour. Not to mention the fact that they kicked 2 paying customers out of their seats. The next day we ate breakfast at the Fireside Grill. We waited at our table for over 15 minutes and no one had come over to greet us, bring us water, coffee, anything. I had to find a busser to track down our waitress. When she finally did come over she did not apologize but acted very put out to be serving us. I ordered my food without mushrooms and it came with mushrooms. I had to send it back and again, no apology from the waitress. She did not offer to comp the meal or anything. read more

Ameristar is probably the nicest casino in Blackhawk/Central City, but if you look like you might be under 40 years old, beware! I am 28--granted, I'm also petite and don't necessarily look as old as I am--that's why I was ID'd and given a wristband upon entering the casino. I thought that would be the end of it, but no--I was asked no less than 15 times (yes, I counted) to show my wristband and 3 additional time to show my ID because the personnel didn't believe I was of age. Now, while some may be flattered, I was questioned to the point of being harassed. I was sitting in the same chair watching the Broncos game for 4 hours and could see 16 cameras from my seat without turning my head. I would imagine there was someone watching the cameras, so some communication should have been happening between employees, noting that the "young looking girl in the bar" was in fact over 21 and had a valid wristband. The 3rd time I was asked for my ID I mentioned to the security officer that I felt as though I was being harassed--shortly thereafter someone who I can only assume was a floor manager came over and not-so-subtly inquired if I was intoxicated and/or if I was being a nuisance. I was not--as they should've been able to see by the previously mentioned cameras, I had not had anything to drink--I was upset by not being able to watch the game in peace. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, the manager just walked away. I know having underage people in a casino, moreover the bar of a casino, is a serious liability; however, the situation was unacceptable and frustrating for not only myself but others nearby (many other patrons commented on how many times I was asked for my wristband/ID). It seems as though Ameristar does not follow their own procedures and has a serious lack of communications between employees. read more
