Everything was amazing such as the food, service, and the hotel itself was beautiful. When my friends and I went down to the casino it was a beautiful disaster. Beautiful because we were asked for IDs every 5 minutes which means were young and beautiful. Disaster because it was every 5 minutes. I mean you would think an expensive place like Ameristar would be able to afford a good machine to check IDs, some wrist bands, or some stamps. So pretty much 3 stars because we couldn't take more than 3 steps without being asked for our IDs. read more

I realize I should be posting this under the "spa" since technically it's a separate entity, but this left a bad "taste" in our mouths about the hotel in general. My girlfriend and I booked a spa day for our first time at this hotel. (I've been to the hotel and took a tour and was amazed). When we booked the appt. we were told we'd have access to the pool (we weren't going to be guests at the hotel that evening though). The pool and the view from the rooftop is amazing. Upon driving up there and checking in we were told we couldn't use the pool since we'd be a "liability" since were weren't technically hotel guests. Even though we were spending money on a full day at their spa! The front desk manager was quite frank and just wouldn't budge. Quite rude. Even though it meant we might not be frequenting her hotel any time in the near future. Left a bad taste in our mouths (even though we did like the spa). read more

Nice place. Had some customer service issues one time but they fixed it and other visits have been great!

We were able to check in a couple of hours early, had a beautiful room, and even though they were busy, it didn't feel that way. Bring your bath bubbles or epsom salts, the tub was separated from the shower, bigger and deeper than your standard tub at home. Room was clean and quiet, just the way I like it! read more

Casino, pool and exterior of hotel were great. Dirty rooms and horrible food will keep me from coming back though.

This is the nicest Casino and Hotel in Black Hawk. All of the suites are super amazing with AMAZING bathrooms. They have shower heads coming out of everywhere! The dealers are all super nice and try to initiate table conversations which eases the tension when gambling. read more

Nice room but don't leave anything behind. The room was nice the service was good. But we forgot my wife's iPod touch in the room when we checked out. Called the next day and it had not been turned in. I would expect when you tout yourself as a luxury hotel that I should have a reasonable expectation of having anything I mistakenly left in the room to be returned to me. My 39 dollar special became a 339 dollar a night stay. read more

Best rooms, reasonable rates, valet parking is top of the line. Rooms are always comfy and wonderful to go to and relax.

Boo! So weird, I had quite a few hundred dollars when i got here.... and they disappeared before I went back home.

F.Y.I: This casino is UP IN THE CUTS! Even if you don't win at the casino, you're already a winner just surviving that drive through the mountains at night...its a little dangerous I must say! Driving through the town on your way to the casino makes you feel like your in an old western movie :) Ameristar is freakin huge and looks very appealing to the eye from the outside. Once inside, its like any other casino...there's Slot machines everywhere u look! The worst part about this place is that you can only order one drink at the bar and have to wait 20 min until they serve you another drink! WHAT THE.... Only good thing was shots of crown were $4 unless u were getting them for free at the tables or slots...which u should be! The decor was nice and it didn't have that nasty smoke smell inside...the employees were nice but the tables were a little pricey with the minimum bets ($15 min for a craps table...ill pass). Ameristar is a nice casino but there wasn't anything that really caught my eye and to me it just seemed like another casino. Yelpers remember to drink & gamble responsibly :) read more

How could you not love this place. They have really nice rooms and amazing food! Super fun being here. I recommend trying the timberline Lodge restaurant and all you can eat crab buffet read more

This place blows. Although they cant control the fact it must be an unlucky casino for me some things that they can: -I was unaware of the one drink an hour policy upon my first visit and was treated like a leapour when I tried to order a shot and a beer, my bad but this is AMERICA. So now that I have become aware of how tight ass they are about the drinking policy I figure I might be able to get a shot at the bar then order a beer from the cocktail waitress. Whoops they were watching me on the cameras like big brother and I got kicked out. Now being that I work in service that includes Alcohol I get it, policy is policy and there is no grey area. However, I have never run into this problem at any other casinos in Blackhawk and feel like I was treated a little unfairly and harshly. The bartender at another casino on the strip has served me like a normal person without reprocussion or judging me for having 3 beers in one hour. For the amount of money I spend on gambling I would figure they might make some exceptions (I always get a car up so I'm never driving) so why can't I have a shot and a beer while I play roulette? THIS IS AMERICA. read more

I'm still giving Ameristar 5 stars cause I love the place (been going there for many years under various owners since it was built) but to the young lady, cute little button nosed blond cocktail waitress who was taking care of the poker tables on the upper level on 2/15/15 at around 6 - 7 PM; please drop the attitude. read more

I didn't even know what the Ameristar looked like before I even booked it. The name sounds like a really fun roller coaster. For real though: I was super stoked when I saw that it was the hotel on top of the hill. It kind of reminded me of the House of Dracula, but was excited that it wasn't the casinos on the bottom of the hill, not saying any of those places are not up to par; because seriously, who wants to stay on the bottom of the hill when you can be at the top. I don't! We stayed in 2 bed suite, which was sweeeet. There was a view of the mountain with all its wilderness beauty. We saw some does, which is apparently a female deer according to a song. The only thing I didn't see was a bear just maul some of those does. That would have been killer, but that's cool though. The pool was nice. It was HEATED! I'm from Hawaii and that just doesn't even exist to me. It still doesn't, for real. Heated tub yes, but not pool. Killer pool technology I guess. I lost 4/5 of my hands of blackjack - No better place to do it at than the memorable Ameristar. Thank you! A+ read more

Obviously a person goes to a casino to gamble... normally. My wife and I go to Ameristar for the hotel.. and to gamble.. a little! The rooms are awesome and the hot tub on the roof is even better. They have a great buffet that will fill you up quick and the spa is great too. Everyone in Colorado MUST go to Ameristar. read more

I think it's bizarre that this casino does not have a bar you can sit at and order food. I figured I'd watch the NBA finals at a bar and grab a bite to eat. You cannot do that at Ameristar. read more

I keep telling myself "I'm not in Vegas" when I stay at the Ameristar Resort in Black Hawk because after staying at some of Vegas' more elaborate and superlative offerings for my lodging needs this place does leave a bit to be desired in accordance with its 4 star rating from travel sites and normal rates for overnight stays. For this reason I only stay here whenever offered up a discount coupon or other discounted opportunity. I do appreciate the reservation agents as they are very professional and cordial when you arrive at the property and do not hesitate to answer any question you may have. I think my biggest gripe about this property is that though clearly stated on the website that patrons of the hotel must be 21 and over it's always a free for all with children running amok in the pool areas. Why you bring kids to a casino resort is beyond me but it definitely detracts from the experience. Overall the rooftop pool and the fitness area are superb and the day we used it, very private and clean. read more

Worst stay ever had to wait 45 min I one answered phone at front desk. Got to front desk had to wait 10 more min to speak to desk clerk. Not good for a supposed 4 star hotel. A comp is no good with out service read more

Played slots both upstairs and downstairs for approximately 4 hours and not once were we asked or served a drink. The restaurants and buffet close way too early (9pm). For a place that is open 24hours, they need more options other than the "deli" that's serves horrible food. I order a pork sandwich and it was like trying to chew through a Goodyear tire. The place was filthy too. read more

I do like the variety of the machines here. Hard to find a cocktail waitress depending on where your sitting. And they payout seems to be pretty good as well. Easy to find if you take the shuttle and are walking from casino to casino. The Cashiers are very friendly and personable as well. read more

The craps table had a good vibe but a minimum bet of 10 dollars was a little steep. The dealers kept the atmosphere upbeat into the wee hours of the night. That being said we were here for a goodbye party for a dear friend and never have I gone anywhere with this friend and not had a great time. On top of that we were successful at craps which also made keeping the energy up easy for the dealers. I did notice that the rest of the casino was relatively quiet and low energy. read more

Easily the best place to stay in Blackhawk. This place has it all. Very nice place with a great atmosphere, and the rooftop hot tub and pool is incredible. The only thing that is slightly disappointing about this place is that the mattresses in the rooms are pretty awful. Still, I'd highly recommend staying here. read more

This place was a lot of fun. I didn't order any drinks, so I don't know how their prices are there, but I enjoyed the gaming. One big tip I would say is that you don't have to use the rewards card to play. They put my wife and I on the same one, and it kept bugging out. It would've required constant trips to the cashier and news cards to keep it working all night. We opted instead to just not use the damn thing and play instead. read more

Always impressed at Ameristar. This was a last minute decision on a challenging night for driving through the canyon. We reserved, then cancelled, then decided to move on and they had our backs the entire way. Once we arrived safely, we were greeted warmly and accommodated perfectly with a room as expected and appreciated. We had our way at the buffet and rolled into the casino. We spent the evening playing nearly every game offered and did well for ourselves supported by awesome service at every move. Drink service was quick and friendly and our dealers,...well we keep coming back without hesitation. Ameristar will continue to be our "go to" in Blackhawk. read more

Nice rooms, comfy beds, hard pillows, indoor pool, outdoor and indoor hot tub. Fanciest hotel in Blackhawk/Central City. Prices per night are consistently $200-$250 a night..a little pricey. read more

I won! Yeah! Friendly dealers, great poker room-lots of tables. Deli inside was pretty good too. They had a good selection of dishes, but I just got the french dip and it was good. read more

well this has to be the best casino resort in Colorado. Always have a great time has food 24 hours a day, the fireside grill is pretty good to eat at and not bad on the wallet either. Has awesome hotel rooms. And dare i say it... it compares to Vegas maybe not as many table games but the atmosphere is great read more

Nicest if you're looking for a contemporary place similar to Palazzo in Vegas, but gamble elsewhere! They do have cocktail servers on the floor and self serve beverage stations! When overhead is this high you're going to lose your $, bad odds. read more

This hotel is beautiful! I love the lodge feel to it and the gorgeous mountain views. The two things I was hoping were better are the Internet connection in the pool area and on the lower level in the restaurants- it can be spotty throughout; and the smoking area where the heaters are- I wish there was a non-smoking area that non-smokers could sit and enjoy being outdoors without being freezing. This would be an awesome addition, especially sitting right next to the Starbucks. It was very hard to enjoy with all the smoking in that area and we couldn't fully enjoy ourselves because of that. Other than those two things, we loved our stay, loved the workout room and enjoyed the outdoor hot tub while it snowed! read more

Nicest casino in Black Hawk by far. Great food, tons of penny slots, nice rooms, nice pool. And if you eat there get the pot roast burger. It's amazing! read more

I don't gamble but the kindof resort thats my style. Great rooms, good service, spa and consistent food. Great price at priceline.. I'd go again. read more

Nice casino, but No waitresses to be seen! The rooms are nice and clean. It just kinda sucks if you want a drink there are no waitresses. I had one waitress come by and never saw her again. I tipped her good so I dont know what the problem is? ! read more

I am a rewards member so i got my room for $70 and it was worth every cent. Loved the layout and the large bathroom. I found staff to be pretty friendly. The only thing i didn't like was the heat in the casino. WOW way to hot! We will stay again. read more

My husband took me here for an awesome birthday date. It's definitely my #1 choice for hotel: beautiful, clean, quiet room with all the amenities, a gorgeous pool/hot tub, and convenient free parking garage. It's the nicest looking place in Black Hawk too. The table games are pricier than the other casinos though, so we pretty much play elsewhere and hangout/spend the night at the Ameristar. I'm sure we will be back! read more

I haven't been to Black Hawk for about 10 years. I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews but was apprehensive due to the negative ones. A Sunday stay was cheaper than a Friday or Saturday but earlier planning would have offered rooms for the same price. The first few parking levels were full but I found awesome/totally empty spots further up; Sunday at 3pm so maybe weekend parking could be worse. Staff was very friendly. We checked in at 3:45 but rooms were being cleaned on the same floor. Room is clean, large and the beds are good - firmer. Bathroom is really nice. I would stay here again. read more

This is a great place, the Buffett is wonderful. They have great employees and the food is fantastic. The employees and manager are really nice and care about their guests. I have been here once before and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good casino and a good time. Definitely play the hangover slot machine, that was my favorite! Great time and thanks Ameristar and the Buffett! read more

Ameristar is now our favorite hotel in Black Hawk. We went back for a couple days before our baby was born, and we had a great experience! The room was comfortable and had an amazing bathtub (perfect for my pregnant self). Beds were wonderful. We would definitely return! read more

Buffet is awesome, The Fireside Grill is 10 times better. It's a bit spendy, but you ARE in a casino spending money! Treat yourself and stay the night. Rooms are spacious, the pool is fantastic and the casino is cool. It's as close to Vegas as you can get to in Colorado. The slot machine variety is great, card games are good. I have seen a couple of families with kids up there, that being said - it IS a casino and children are NOT allowed to be on the gambling floor, so get a babysitter and leave them at home. Parking is easy and free, valet will cost you a couple of bucks. All in all this is the place I go when I am in Black Hawk. read more

Update! This still place still has terrible service. After waiting until the abnormally late time to check in to their hotel, we had to wait 30 more minutes in line just to get checked in. I've never in my life seen a line so long for a hotel check in. If you like waiting lines, you'll also love waiting in line for their weekend brunch at the Centennial Buffet! 20minutes of waiting in line to pay to serve yourself food. read more

I have experienced better, way better! They keep going downhill, AAARG! Seriously the last 4 times I have been here I have needed to get new keys. The front desk always says, "should have kept them away from your phone". Not even near my phone. Still better than the Isle but that's not saying much! Can't wait for the new hotel! read more
