I have made multiple phone calls and sent email contacts from Amerigas website. They have 0 customer service. I have been trying to contact someone regarding my account for over a month. Originally, I wanted to discuss best options available to me with Amerigas. I am so angry by now that I want to end our business with them. I have had a tank of theirs left on my property by previous owners and have called multiple times to get it picked up and they never show up. Just called and set up to get it picked up on Friday. Amerigas has low reviews for a reason, save yourself the aggravation and money and go elsewhere. If I could give zero stars I would. I was pushed into making an account online to go paperless or pay the $2.99 additional fee. This is to make communication between customer and delivery smoother (really to save money for Amerigas) but not the case. I ordered 100 gallons over the phone since my propane is only for hot water and I want to fill up at a lower price per gallon in the summer months. After making the request I logged into my account to ensure it went through and was documented at 100 gallons. A few days later I received a delivery text message saying I would receive 100 gallons delivery within the next few days, then another text the day of delivery confirming the same. The driver left the ticket at my door showing I was actually delivered 163.6 gallons. This is nearly $200.00 more added to my tank than I requested. This is standard/normal for this company to disregard delivery request, fill as much as they desire, and then you're forced to pay. My delivery was on 3/26/22 and its still not resolved. I have called 7 times and each time told it would be resolved but learned this morning, 4/6/22 that NOTHING has been done not even a ticket written for the resolution team. Amerigas out of Jamestown, California no longer takes walk-ins because they dump unwanted and incorrect requested amounts of propane, you're expected to pay, and they don't want to deal with the disgruntled customers. I have been ripped of by Amerigas for the last time. I had been thinking I was getting ripped off by the fill percentages before and now I know. I had called in February with 24% in my tank and wanted to use my 559 dollar prepaid credit/not a fill, which started out 80% in October. I don't use a whole lot obviously. 4 days later, they arrive and billed me at 11%! And they charged me for a fill, above my prepaid which I didn't want because it's winter pricing. I leave messages and I hear nothing. They only credit me $500, leaving my extra check of $59 hanging out there as a bonus to them I suppose. I am frustrated and want to know what propane company I can trust. BTW - I felt like they got the percentages wrong in the past, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. :( read more

If there was a negative number - or at least a Zero - I would have picked it. Two other local providers are priced at $2.99 / gallon and is their standard price with no discounts. We are being charged $4.74!! I've spent over $900 over the last months and it's only my wife and I. Trying to get them to come get their tank out of the ground. I have been a forced customer for far too long. Their billing structure and "cost sharing" fees are extremely one sided. They have to be making $$ hand over fist. With the meter fees, tank rental fees, and delivery fees on top of the high price per gallon cost, they have no expenses (it is all paid by the customer). Their billing system doesn't track to what you really owe. And the only decent customer service has come from the driver (if you actually talk to them). I have talked with a driver once in the last 6 years and that is the only positive review I would ever give. Deliveries are in no way shape or form regular, unless you pay to be on one of their special programs. Actually read their requirements and agreements, and you are responsible for almost everything. Amerigas has recently made a change to their structure that has proven to be incredibly detrimental to their ability to deliver good customer service. At the beginning of 2020 they closed down their local offices, so the only way to contact them was through their 1 (800) number. We had a very good relationship with our local office and received very good customer service through them and timely responses. Now that I have to contact the 1 (800) number, I have to wait on hold for a very long time, explain my businesses unique situation every time, and deal with confused customer service representatives. Amerigas has repeatedly missed deliveries, causing my business to shut down. They refuse to honor the special accommodations that my local office used to provide to our seasonal business, costing my business hundreds of dollars a year. Their policy is that when they pick up my propane tank at the end of our season, they take back the gas in the tank and do not refund us for the amount of gas they take back. This feels like theft to me. I have asked to talk to a manager about this several times and they have failed to call me back. Overall, Amerigas has consistently proven that they are incapable of offering good customer service, indicating that their company structure is terrible. If you are a business and have the choice between a local company and Amerigas, choose your local company even if it is a bit more expensive. read more

7 to 10 days?!....Dear amerigas.....by the time you read this its too late. I think I'm finally taking my business elsewhere. I've been with this company for many years. Recently I realized I was a few days late paying so I took care of it on their website. I just happened to check the propane level and it was at 5%  I called and spoke to Tina or Triba or whoever to arrange a delivery. She responded with "it takes 2 days to process Web payments and you'll have to wait 7-10 days for a delivery". So hey amerigas.... I'll wait while I have no heat, hot water or ability to cook. You just take your time!  She was no help at all! Looks we are done! I've never had trouble with you guys till now. How hard is it to add me to the route? I see your trucks up this way every day. This company assured me when I called for more gas that I was on automatic refill. Well my propane is gone this morning. The lady on the phone was not nice. She told me it might be a while before I get propane and I told her I hope we don't freeze to death she laughed and said oh well its not that cold. Well its supposed to snow Sunday and today is Thursday. I didn't find this at all funny. Also, we got disconnected and she never called me back and when it went to another gas location 50 miles away they told me to call back. I guess I will look into finding a new company. read more

This company is unbelievable. Called to complain that their prices were close to double other companies, so they moved us to "will call" without telling us, so they are not monitoring. Ran out of gas yesterday, called them and found out that we had been moved to will call and it will take 7 - 10 day for their overpriced propane. Time to look elsewhere. Would give zero stars if it was possible. Charged me $4.71 per gallon when competitor charged me $1.60 for first fill then $2.65 after that. When told that i was switching services and that they need to come pick up tank (February,) I was told it won't be until spring and there is a $59.00 charge to pick up. I offered to deliver it. They say I can't. My father had Amerigas for years as well. When he switched they told him the same thing. Fast forward 2 years and the tank IS STILL THERE. They never came to get it. read more

The worst customer service. The branch manager (Amy) is useless. She gave me her cell number and said, "any issues you have feel free to call me." As soon as I had an issue I called, no answer. Ok, figured she was busy, sent a text, no response, followed up next day with another text, no response. 2 weeks go by sent another text, no response, following week I called her, no response. Even if she texted me that she had a family emergency I'd understand. But nothing. If anyone is looking for a job that pays you to do nothing apply for her position. I know she answers the truck drivers calls (I've seen it, I was standing right there), but if you are a lowly customer she doesn't want to be bothered by the people who insure she has a paycheck. The local number you call gets transferred to a national number then you can speak to someone overseas who doesn't know anything about your area, or the distances between accounts if you're trying to get an ETA. I was promised a delivery on Monday (my normal delivery day), no show while I was completely out of propane, then I was told 3 times that it would be definitely Tuesday, I said fine. No show and they knew this entire time that I had 0 gallons. I'm writing this review on Wednesday, now they are telling me this afternoon. I'm a retailer trying to keep my customers happy. If I tell my customers to be here on this day, it comes back to me, not Amerigas. I've been turning down my customers, my business to competitors because Amy does not do her job, does not answer customer calls, does not respond to text messages, and does not care about customers. What a horrible experience. I bought my tank and supplies from Amerigas in Staunton and that went very well. For the installation they said that I had to go through the Charlottesville office because of where I lived. That is where the nightmare began. I talked to someone named Kelvin. I told him what I wanted but he was so argumentative and difficult to communicate with that I finely had to ask him who his supervisor was. Kelvin told me that he was the only one who set up installations. I told him that he had to work for someone and asked for that name. When I talked to the supervisor, I told him I had a difficult time communicating with Kelvin. He said that he hears that I lot. I couldn't help wondering why the main person they have working with the public is one that has a reputation of being difficult to communicate with. They sent someone out to look at my site. We identified the location of the tank and lines. Amerigas told me that it would cost $500.00 and we set a time for them to come bury the tank. A guy named Chris was to come bury the tank and run the lines at 9:00 a.m. I set up a building inspection for that afternoon. We were ready and 9:00 came and went, 10:00 came and went. I called Amerigas who said that Chris was a contractor and that they couldn't tell us his schedule. Chris showed up at 11:00 dropped off his equipment and trailer and left. The propane tank he brought with him was a used, refurbished tank. I told the building inspector not to bother coming by because I didn't think there would be anything to inspect. I called Kelvin and told him that Chris brought a used tank and I paid for a new one. Kelvin told me that I couldn't have paid for a new tank because they didn't have any new tanks. I told him that when I bought the tank, I wasn't told that I was buying a used tank. Kelvin kept saying that I couldn't have bought a new tank because they didn't have any. I told him that I either wanted a new tank or the difference in price paid back to me. Again, Kelvin insisted that I didn't pay for a new tank because they didn't have any. That is what it was like to deal with this man. No matter what I said, his constant response was that because they didn't have any new tanks that I couldn't have paid for a new tank. Chris came back at 12:30. He started excavating for the tank. The building inspector said he was in the area anyway and so he dropped by. He talked with Chris and told him exactly what he needed in order to inspect the tank when he returned after the job was completed. Chris completely ignored what the building inspector told him. One of the lines he only buried an inch deep. We told him that we were going to put pavers there but he still should have buried the line deep enough so that we could pass inspections. When we didn't pass inspection, they sent Chris back out. He was so unpleasant and was calling the building inspector names while he grumbled about having to comply with their directives. The building inspector came out and passed one line but not the one that was buried only an inch. When I called Amerigas they said that we told Chris that we were going to put pavers down and once we did that, the line would pass. I was so worn down by now that I just let it go. I needed my project to pass inspection before I do landscaping so, I went out with my shovel and buried the line myself. Despite the sub-par work, Amerigas said that Chris was charging us $1000.00 for the work. They said that Chris ran into rock when he dug. The guy that did the site visit knew we were in a rocky area and we were quoted $500.00. I didn't see why the price should double from the quote. I got the tank filled. The gage didn't move. I called Amerigas and they said that I must have a faulty gage and that they would send Chris out to fix it. I asked if they could send someone else and they said that Chris was the only person that could fix it. I talked to a woman named Sharon. She was the only positive in the experience. She said I did pay for a new tank and credited me $300.00 for the difference. My bill was still over $1000.00 even though I had already paid a couple thousand for the tank and other needed equipment. So, the experience was incredibly difficult with Kelvin not being able to communicate; them trying to pawn off a used tank as new; Chris being disagreeable, over-charging for the site work, doing a terrible job, not passing inspection, the defective tank and the continual back and forth it was an incredibly painful and expensive ordeal. Do yourself a favor and go with anyone but Amerigas if you value your time, money and sanity. read more

In December 2016 I called Amerigas in Placerville and ordered a propane tank fill. I explained that we were at a very low level at 5%. We had a large number of guests over the Christmas holiday and it was exceptionally cold during this period. I paid in full over the phone with my credit card. They explained that it would be 7-10 days before delivery. After the 5th day I called and pleaded for delivery and explained that we had a baby in the house and we were freezing trying to conserve the little gas we had left. Amerigas firmly stated that it was 7-10 business days and not calendar days and that I would have to wait my turn. At this point my husband began smelling propane in the kitchen, a sure sign that we were running very low. I called again and explained this and the receptionist cut me off and said she would be sending out an inspector to investigate a potential leak. I did not authorize this and told her to not send anyone to my home. She nonetheless sent an inspector to my house who agreed there was nothing wrong with our tank or other delivery operations. In the meantime I called another propane company who came out the next day and filled my tank for the same price as Amerigas! Yesterday, February 16th, I received a bill for $150 to pay for an inspection that I did not order and expressly prohibited. The Amerigas inspector entered my property without permission and then charged me for this unauthorized service call. We own our own tank and do not have any on-going contracts with this company. I called Amerigas and asked to speak to a supervisor regarding my complaint. She said management does not take calls and was clearly screening complaints. She finally agreed to have her supervisor "Sabrina" call me back but it would be 3 days or more before she would call. Two days later I received an automated call leaving an 800 number to call if I had a problem with my billing statement. After reading reviews on YELP it appears I am not alone in this story which is shared repeatedly by customers in their service area. This is a fraudulent company who erroneously claims on its billing statement...."We appreciate and value your business..." read more

I recently changed to another company after having unduly high prices and them letting me run out of propane last winter, then they would come when the tank was at 50%+- Not a problem except I am charged about $20 hazard or something fees each time regardless of how much they deliver, one time I had a 20 gal fill, propane was $50 or so, fees were $20. Come on! And still waiting for them to retrieve tank, two months now. UPDATE they finally picked up the tank and charged a $65 pickup fee. read more

I owned a home and used AmeriGas for propane services for four years. When I sold this home and closed my account, I thought all was well. Until I started receiving late and past due notices regarding rental fees for the tanks. However, I sold this home in July, and filled my tanks prior to the sell (April) to 80%. WHY would I be charged rental fees for tanks I used and FILLED?! I called them 5x in a matter of two months (Jan-March) to try and correct this. Each time I called customer service I received different information. In January, they told me your account is closed and we don't see any open balances on your account. I received an email two weeks later regarding the balance. Called a 2nd time, this time they said that the balances were accurate, and I owed them. I argued and they understood and said, "We will take care of this and credit of your account". Two weeks later another paper bill arrived at my NEW home address (how did they get this?). Called again, this time again no balance on your account, it is closed, please disregard any paper or email invoice you receive. I received another paper notice this time a 3rd attempts to contact me. I called again three different people, within three different departments couldn't find a bill, or invoice on my account. HOW UNORGANIZED is this business? I am so glad my new home is natural gas and I do not need to worry about this company any longer. However, I will be keeping an eye on my credit for ANY collections - and I will fight them. read more

I've had the misfortune of doing business with these people for a little over a year. They've run me out of gas twice (okay, dry once and 0% once). I have to constantly monitor my usage and call them, vice them automatically filling my tank as advertised. They won't deliver if the roads are icy (and won't put chains on the truck to facilitate the delivery.) The customer service people are helpful in solving my problems, but I don't want problems; somebody has their head in the up and locked position. I'm done. If I could give them zero stars I would, where should I start... We have a summer home that uses very little propane so we get charged a tank rental fee yearly. I usually have to call to have propane delivered about every 2 years and I only do the minimum to avoid the tank rental fee. Well after years of calling and asking if there is any way to waive the tank rental fee to keep them and give them some business I finally had enough and switched to Irving. Irving came out and swapped out the tanks. I called Amerigas to come and get the tanks, yep we will be there on x date, no show, no call, call back same thing again and again and again, the only reason they came out was because I threatened to get a lawyer involved if the tanks fell over on one of my grandkids. Now I get a bill for a tank rental fee and a service charge to pick up the tanks... Are you serious!!! They took care of the service fee right away but I have now been calling and speaking with multiple reps since October to have the charges removed... it is now January and I still don't have it corrected... NEVER NEVER again and I tell everyone I know not to use them read more

In the meantime we ran out of gas, called they told us it would be delivered the next day, but will charge us an extra $75 because our tank is empty LOL. This went on for days. Finally we called another company that is delivering later today. Will not be using Amerigas propane, they don't care enough about their customers to keep it local. Their call center is on the east coast, and is full of rude customers service agents that can't help because they don't know what is going on outside of their computer screens. We had used this company for several years, but as of about 8 months ago their service stopped being reputable. We tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but they don't care about their customers... so see ya. We own our own propane tank and have been using Amerigas service for the last 4+ years, and until this last fall they have provided good service. We check our tank regularly and order accordingly. Around Christmas time we ordered gas and it took an extremely long time to arrive, we chalked it up to the season, but now we know it's just bad service. We ordered at the end of last month, they took our money and have not given us our gas, it's been over 10 days and now we have run out of propane, meaning BBQ for dinner and cold showers. There automated phone says it was delivered yesterday and when we call, they say maybe tomorrow. In years past they delivered to our community once a week, so if you called on Monday you could have gas by Thursday, but now it's pushing two weeks. Don't use this company, they no longer maintain good service, and when you do get them on the phone they don't care about you as a customer. Poor management!!!!! read more

There seems to be absolutely no regard for the customer with this company. I was just recently switched to scheduled deliveries from will call. If you're on will call, YOU ARE SCREWED. I understand under this scenario that you are responsible to monitor your tank levels, and the one time we ran out, we pre-paid and received the 7-10 business day speech (which I have heard at least 6 times over the last 10 calendar days I have been completely out of gas) and that is all you get. I have called to get an update and nobody has any idea when I can expect it other than it will be here between 7-10 business days. Let's just be honest America-crap, this means 10 business days no matter what. When I asked why I haven't been routed yet, I received a few different responses; we've been really busy and behind, now we're getting caught up, oh next week will be 10 business days so you might get it early next week. Not good enough! I own my tank and I will be looking for someone else effective immediately. Not sure how you can run a business this way. As soon as I get someone else to bring me propane, I will be demanding my pre-paid dollars back. I've heard the owner is a really good guy. If so, this is a shame. Customer service and word-of-mouth rule in a small town. Better work on your dispatching/logistics and customer service or you won't be around much longer. Pathetic. Update: I found another company, 49er that will be bringing me propane tomorrow. That's right, ordered at 4:30pm Thursday and delivering Friday. I asked Ameri-crap to cancel my delivery which still comes with an unknown ETA and was then told my pre-paid money would come back to me via a check from their corporate offices in two weeks!!! I said that this is unacceptable and all in time spent to get one delivery and my money back, 1 month! I said that you can't provide a service and now you are holding my money? Is this legal? Terrible customer service. It's laughable that when the phone greeting says that customer service is their priority! I ordered a refill on 11/20, and have yet to get a delivery on 12/3. They told me to expect delivery by 11/28. When I called to see what's up, they said my driveway was too icy. What a lie! Now they say to expect delivery on 12/5. Now my tank is empty. Price Gouging for sure! Today's market rate is $2.29 per gallon, not a teaser rate, but the market rate to fill a 250 gallon tank. Amerigas just charged me $3.349 per gallon. I called the company, spoke with Alice, who said that all the employees are "managers", that I needed to talk with her. I explained the inflated price of over ONE DOLLAR PER GALLON and her comment was simply..."I can't give you a credit or make an adjustment. There is nothing I can do about the charge". Well...I will do something! I will change companies asap. I have been with the company for 15 years, they supply my house, my mothers house, numerous rental homes that we have, and this is how they choose to treat their customers. Horrible company run don't walk to another one..this company filled my tank without our permission then decided to charge us 4.85 per gallon! Twice as much as the going rate. We were on a 3 month plan to come to our home to deliver 100 gallons. They came to our home and filled our tank 300 Gallons! When I called them to question this they said we changed our plan to a revolving service and they said by our usage they felt we need to have a full up! The bill is over 1,300 dollars. They could work it out that we could pay in a four month plan. 6 weeks ago the came to our house and delivered 100 gallons we had agreed to buy. So now we have a propane tank with gas we didn't want and certainly not an enormous bill for something we did t ask for. Stay away from this company. read more

Well finally. We got fuel tonight by a wonderful delivery man named Chad. Thank you for coming by at 5:30pm and still 3 more deliveries to go. Talked to John Lewis Monday and he more than likely made it possible for our delivery of fuel with a diligent Chad. The dispatcher and new policies at Amerigas made "will Call" customers bottom of totem pole. Maybe a more forgiving policy is in order. Like a one time emergency. At any rate we are very grateful to Chad and John Lewis. I just hope the uncaring strict policy followers are never in our predicament. Never have I expereinced as poor service as I have with Amerigas, Been using them for 18 months and will be telling them to pull their tanks as soon as I use up the last of the gas that I HOPE THEY DELIVER since they have run me out of propane again. If you use them make sure you never get below 50% or they will run you out. I ordered online-they took my $1k easily enough. They promised me delivery the next week when I called to see when I would get propane. They didn't show up on the day they said they would deliver. I called again and they said they would deliver the next day. Never showed up. Oh did I mention that it took an average of ONE HOUR on hold on their EMERGENCY delivery line each time I called. I am on hold now-this is my 5th call in one week. The last call after one hour it hung up. I just looked over the recent Yelp reviews and take my word - the 1 star reviews are right in line with my experience. This cannot be isolated incidents - this is systematic suckiness. The only way this type of service industry improves is to stop using them. By the way I finally started making some use of my time on hold. I found something called Tank Farm and I contacted them and I am siging up with them to try out. 27 cents cheaper a gallon. I will post about their service once I start using them. read more

I have had an account with this company for less than a year in my new house, and I am stunned at how unbelievably horrible they are. I called to inquire about their Amerilock program that locks the rate, and they wanted $99 for that. I told them I wasn't interested, but they said just not to pay it and it would deactivate. Well, a couple of months later I got a late payment notice and threat of additional fees, so I tried calling their customer service line. After sitting on hold for at least 30 minutes they disconnected the line. I then went to their chat system, where they said they were removing the fee and canceling per my request. I logged in for an unrelated reason a couple of days later and saw they added another $150 fee for early cancellation of the Amerilock contract. Again I tried calling with the exact same result, so I did the chat again, they said they were submitting my dispute, but I have no faith in them at this point. Thank God I only have the propane furnace and it is very old, I am having it replaced with electric and I will never look back. Run away from this company, not walk, RUN, they are God awful. I expect more headaches with getting them to pick up their stupid tank, and I already know they are going to charge $70 to pick it up as well as $150 to pump out the propane that I paid for. Hands down the worst business I have ever dealt with. For starters I used this company for about 6 months before I no longer needed them. During that 6 months I had been billed incorrectly multiple times and if I had never brought up any of these billing issues that seemed to be really repetitive then I would have paid them hundreds of dollars that I never owed them. whoever they have working in their billing department needs to find a new job. After that 6 months I purchased a house away from the area and I moved my elderly mother (66 years old) into my recent home and she took over with my Amerigas account. during the year that she has lived there she has only gotten serviced ONE TIME! She has tried desperately now for months to get her tank filled because she was at 50% and knew she would need it filled soon. She has called multiple times after waiting on hold for sometimes 2 hours only to get hung up on. The one time she got through to someone they told her they'd have someone fill the tank in 2 days. Its now been over a month since she last heard from them and still no service. Now, I don't normally ever leave a review. This is actually my first time, but when your 66 year old Mom calls you at 4am because she ran out of propane and you can hear her shivering in her voice over the phone because this company for whatever reason refuses to service her propane tank then the least I can do is leave a review. After hearing this I have called and called and called, but they do not answer no matter how long you wait. I drove 3 hours to my moms house to install a separate propane tank so she could have propane only to realize that when they set up their propane tank they messed with the connection so I have no way to install a separate tank. I would highly advise anyone considering using this place to back out. They really do not care about their customers to the point of being disgusting. Amerigas is bending their customers over compared to JS West. I paid $$420 in November 2014 and $580 in Feburary 2015 to fill my 250 gallon tank. Amerigas charged $3.659/gallon while JS West peaked at $1.75/gallon during the same time period, a difference of $1.90/gal. Current pricing for Amerigas is $3.49/gallon while JS West is charging $1.19/gallon, a difference of $2.30/gal. In the first case I basically paid $1.90/gallon more which equates to $217 I could have saved with JS West. In the second case I basically paid $1.90/gallon more which equates to $301. I could have saved $518 with JS West and Amergas wonders why I'm terminating business with them. The current price difference is $2.30/gal as stated above. Read the reviews from others and you will notice the trend that you pay double for the luxury of doing business with Amerigas for an item that is considered a commodity. JS West charges $0.50 over spot/terminal pricing. Everyone dump Amerigas !!! read more
