Hunt Propane helped me with a situation where I needed to transfer service from another company. They were honest with their terms and how they operated their propane business. My account was set up the same day and Mike ensured I was on their schedule for a new tank install as soon as the old tanks were removed. With one days notice, their driver (Casey) and another technician came first thing Friday AM and had the new tank installed. Because I didn't have another source for heating or cooking, they were given the authorization to fill this new tank with their 23 gallon tank (that I figure they use for unplanned needs). Casey told me of my route day (Fridays) and that he'd be by to fill the tank then. Instead, he came by the following Monday and filled the tank. Have been filling up our RV at Hunt for several years. Recently we were told that we had to pay cash only which was fine and we showed up today with cash and now all of a sudden there is a minimum gallon requirement. The very nice man that actually does the fill, was just sitting inside and not doing anything so we weren't taking him away from any important business. The lady at the front desk had real attitude too. From now on, we're going to idle wheels. They just lost a customer. read more

My home shop was heated by a Kerosene heater since about 1997 when it was built. I have a sofa in the shop and the wife reads or just keeps me company while I work in the shop. My community changed propane companies and when they installed the new meter, there was a leak. After about a week, there was a horrible smell that I thought was coming from under my house. It was horrible!!! I thought some critter died under there. My friend's husband came out and couldn't find anything and thought maybe the smell would dissipate if it was a critter. It didn't!! I called an exterminator and got charged $200 for them to tell me they couldn't find anything. It wasn't until a technician came by and I told him I could sometimes smell propane from where the new meter was. I checked it and said I had a pretty bad leak (and a huge) propane bill and the complete cause for the smell!! I tried to resolve it with them and tried going up the chain, only to get the nasty woman who refused to let me speak with Shawn (think was the owner). I've had Hunt Propane for years. They go out of their way to schedule a day before you run out of propane. They are very customer oriented making sure their clients are happy. We contacted Hunt Propane on 12/28 to fill our tanks after the recent winter storm and PG&E declaring power out until January 10th. On December 31st, we received a voicemail (phone never rang due to intermittent cell service in the area) from the driver that it was "too dangerous" to deliver propane to us. Meanwhile, Campora and other propane companies have been making deliveries on the same street with no issue. The post office also has no problem deliver mail and packages either. There is no integrity in how Hunt chose to handle this. We were forced to evacuate our home without propane to fuel our Generac, and having a 17 month old without heat in freezing temperatures left us no choice. You lost a customer for good Hunt propane. read more

Had a great experience with Hunt team while navigating delivery for a snowbound community of residents waiting for propane. Learned a bit of valuable information to help people get better service when their private residence is covered with snow. The street must be cleared of snow with 12' wide area for the truck to enter. Driveway and path to the tank must accessible for hose to reach tank. If on auto fill make sure you prepare ahead of time. Staff was very pleasant and would recommend their service to others. read more

We have been happy with Hunt's prices and trucks so far (drivers are professional and friendly). However, the reason for three stars is the office. I needed a fill soon and had a couple questions, so I tried to call. Got the answering service and left a message with her. Never got a call back. Called again a couple days later first thing in the morning (thought maybe I caught them at lunch last time). Nope. Got the answering service again! This time I told the person taking the message that I had never gotten a call back last time. The rest of that day goes by, the next day goes by, and then finally I got a call back the third day. That is TERRIBLE customer service to begin with, it should not take a day to talk to a person at a business much less more than a week, but then the woman who finally called me back was super short with me and rude as if I was putting her out by asking a couple brief questions. Almost made me switch to a different company. I'm going to chalk it up to a bad day and see what happens if I ever need to call again only because I have been happy with the drivers and the service so far. read more

If you want to wait weeks for service when you are out of gas, deal with a rude person on the phone, and pay someone $1,900/hour for a job that is about as difficult as changing a light bulb...then Hunt Propane is for you. For the last several years we have been dealing with Legacy Propane for their service here in Foresthill. All of the people whom we dealt with at Legacy were courteous and helpful, and when I needed a tubing pigtail for my propane tank...they sold it to me without a problem. Unfortunately, Legacy sold their business to Hunt...and cost of gas went up...and the service turned to total crap. The main valve on our tank had a slight leak, so I decided to let the tank run out of gas so I could replace the valve. When the gas ran out I called Hunt and asked them to sell me a new valve. I told them that I have been a professional plumber for 53 years and was entirely capable of replacing the valve myself. They refused to sell me the valve, and informed me that they would send someone out to look at the valve (for $175 dollars...in two weeks)...and then replace the valve for for an additional $300 labor (plus material cost)! I told the woman on the phone that the job would take about 15 minutes...and she told me that I should just find another gas company. So I called American River Gas and spoke with the receptionist...who was extremely courteous and helpful, and she referred me to Bobby (their field technician). Bobby came out the next day, replaced the valve in less than15 minutes, charged me $50 for the labor, and put 10 gallons of gas in the tank to hold us over till their truck could fill our tank in 5 days (for a considerably lower cost/gal than Hunt) . So, add $175 to $300 ($475) then multiply by 4 (fifteen minutes)....and you see that Hunt propane's labor rate is $1,900/hour!!!!! It is sad...no tragic...that a family business such a Legacy (who were in service for generations and built an excellent reputation)...would sell their business to a corporation committed to greed, rudeness, extortion, and pathetic service. read more

Our tank was installed by Shaun from the Weimar office, he did above and beyond when he moved the new tank location, now we are up to code with 11.5 foot distance from the house. His price was 25 cents per gallon less than our previous supplier, and the tank rental fees are lower, with no added delivery fee or taxes. read more

I rarely write reviews but Mike and Sherry went above and beyond for me yesterday and I feel compelled to tell everyone! My home is for sale and on the day of the agent's open house (and two days before the full open house) my home smelled of propane.The tank was below 5%! I called every propane company I was familiar with (owner owned tank) and no one could help me for at least a week until I spoke to Sherry. She said she'd talk to Mike and he showed up at my home 30 min later with a 23 gallon tank to hook up until they came later that day with a fill! I am so grateful and will be a customer for life! Our propane tank had a slight leak, so we had to run it dry before the repairs could be completed. Ran out of propane Sunday night, they had a tech come out Tuesday AM. I used to have Legacy propane before they were acquired by Hunt, so this was my first experience with them and I was blown away. I am almost 9 months pregnant with my first child, and with so much on my mind these days I totally spaced on our propane level. Well, we ran out completely so we couldn't use our stove, oven, or any hot water. I gave them a call on a Thursday morning and asked when they would be able to come out. The woman who took my call said they would be in my area Monday and would make sure we were on the route. She then later called back because she wanted to get me set up on a regular check in schedule so this didn't happen to us again, especially with being new parents. Prepared to go the weekend without propane and showering at family members houses, it was a great surprise when they showed up Saturday morning to fill our tank! The gentleman that filled our tank was very helpful and professional. Come to find out he is working overtime and came to our house because our ticket mentioned we were having a baby soon. I didn't catch his name, but our receipt said Phillips. He worked to get our pilot light back on and made sure we were set before he left. We were so thankful to have hot water again so soon! They didn't have to come out on a day that they are "closed" but we are grateful they did. read more

when you call this company your greeted on the phone by a lady who has horrible customer service. she's rude you can't even ask a question without being snapped at because of this ONE employee. we have over 300 homes that use propane in the community I live in I actually told the board hey let's use Hunt Propane my boyfriend Henry said Mike my friend he's a good guy. so the community switched to hunt. Now I'm going to research a new company that sticks with the giving great customer service motto. who ever you are only the receptionist/person answering the phone suppose to be working with as well as answering questions to the customers have. "big john" came out to see what needed to switch over to hunts propane service. he took care of all the details, (no charge), from disconnecting the other companies tank, pumped the remaining propane and installed into our new tank. they even placed the other companies old tank to where the other company could pick it up easy in my front yard 3 days later. hunt installed their new tank like professionals, checked for any leaks, relighted all the propane appliances, cleaned up after they finished and came back the next day to fill the tank to it's max. even did some little extra piping for us. hunt propane has a great respectable, responsible crew, very friendly, and hard working. very exceptional customer service. thanks to "big john" and all involved. best regards, david and reiko s. Hunt got us as a customer in Georgetown from Legacy Propane, who they bought out in Newcastle. They never said anything about change when I called Legacy's number for refill in November. Found out about buyout only when they showed up to fill in a Hunt Truck. Paid for Nov fill by invoice they mailed me. I mailed them a check. They cashed it in Dec. Spoke to office person on January 8 about route service, and sent in paper work they had mailed to me for route service on that day. But they never showed up and our tank went dry the same day they were up here last Friday, Jan 29. They claimed they didn't have us as a route customer, and left us high and dry with no gas for 3 days, no heat, no hot water, no cooking...then the guy shows and fills the tank today, but still no gas to any appliance. Guy left us saying he "doesn't do plumbing..." I would not recommend this company to anyone at all. They must have so much business they don't need to care about their customers...very sad, and just the opposite of Legacy Propane, who were great... read more
