I just cancelled my account as my home heating propane tanks are just about empty (below 5%) and I have been asking, then pleading, for delivery for a month. I was promised an emergency delivery this week that never came. So I contracted with local vendor who are coming today with new tanks and gas. AmeriGas took over a local family business who were providing good service - got an emergency delivery within hours late one night when gas ran out back in March - and they have ruined the business. Several neighbors told me the same story. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. PROPANE IS TOO IMPORTANT TO TRUST TO LARGE FACELESS CORPORATION. STAY LOCAL. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! Because propane is unregulated in some states including NJ this people do whatever they like with your account from horrible costumer service to strong arm tactics to charge extra fees regardless of how you pay. Even before 2020 costumer service was horrible even to the local level. They dont care about you well being, when I explained the rep that I needed my delivery that was PAID for 2 weeks before because I have small children in my home she just went on trying to sign me up for one their programs, which I dont need because I pay upfront, without offering any solution to my complaints. SO IF YOU ARE BUYING OR BUILDING A NEW HOME SAVE YOUR SANITY AND MONEY AND STAY AWAY FROM PROPANE. read more

Terrible service........lies .....days without heat, hot water, stove.....bc they failed to deliver propane even thougb we are on AUTOMATIC REFILL and OUT OF GAS. One cant do worse but can do a lot better than Americrap! read more

Guy came out, I said I needed a fill, he said no you have enough propane in there your good, he checked the gauge, opened a valve and said let's see it it turns on inside. we go inside everything turns on fine, and he says yea you'll be fine. Walks away while saying good night. 2 hours later I get a very heavy gas smell from down stairs, kids are saying daddy it smells funny, I go down and open the back door, I hear a pissssssssing noise from the tank. I called the guy and he instructed me how to close the valve so it stopped leaking. Unprofessional, dangerous, lazy, rushed workers, someone is going to get hurt. read more

Liars! We have been told to order at 30 gallons, as we pre-pay. We ordered at 30 gallons and were told 7 to 10 days...which would have been Christmas day. We would have been fine until then. Two days prior to Christmas day, we decided to check delivery status and we were told 10 to 14 days and we were not scheduled and she was sorry we were told the wrong info. She said we could pay $300 extra for an emergency delivery, as it may be even longer than the 14 days due to the holiday and we might not get a delivery until Thursday or Friday...December 31st or January 1st! Ridiculous! Do we need to order propane a month before we actually need it! read more

These people are the rudest people I have ever had to deal with. If it were not such a hassle to switch out the tank to get another supplier we would do so. Use someone else if you can. read more

I have never dealt with a customer service department that has no emphasis on customer service. I dread anytime I have to call into this company and have to try to have a discussion with them, and just get such an negative attitude. They are rude, short and anything but helpful. I'll be looking to terminate services with them. read more

Customer service totally lacking. I'm a prebuy customer and scheduled for automatic deliveries of propane. I've now run out of propane (mid-winter) and Amerigas is unresponsive as to when they will refill my tank. read more

This company wanted to charge an extra $500 to make an emergency propane delivery on Saturday afternoon February 3rd to a regular customer! A customer with small sick children and no heat! Disgraceful! Imagine if you are a new customer. Outrageous Try yankee gas or anyone else ! read more

I am an automatic delivery customer. This morning when we woke up, the house was 50 degrees. I had run out of propane over night. I have run out of propane numerous times with Amerigas, inspite of being an automatic delivery customer. I called to get a delivery and was told "it could be up to 14 days before I received a delivery." I told the representative(Asia) this was unacceptable due to outside temperature in the teens and my heat being hot water baseboard. If the temperature in the house gets too low, my pipes for my heating system will start bursting. I asked Asia to speak to a manager. After being on hold for over 15 minutes, I was disconnected. I called and spoke to another representative(Carlos) who told me because I am an automatic delivery customer, my delivery will be immediate...which means within the day. I'm sure if I could speak to my local representatives, I would be able to get delivery immediately....which means right now! However, for some reason Amerigas has made it so you can not connect to your local representatives and automatically route you to their national call line. I have had numerous "out of propane" incidents with Amerigas. In dealing with my local office, they believe the "float" in my tank is bad causing false readings and they were going to repair/replace the tank over the summer. In order to do that, they need the tank as low as possible. The tank got fairly low in the summer so what does Amerigas do? They come and fill the tank because I am an automatic delivery customer!!! It's so ironic, I get a delivery in the summer when they are trying to "drain" the tank and in the freezing cold winter, they let it run out! Absolutely amazing! Very incompetent management of this company. For those not familiar with propane service, if the tank buried in your yard is owned by the propane company(which most are), only that propane company can fill your tank. They essentially have a "monopoly" over that customer. I have offered to buy my tank numerous times over the years but they refuse....they're not stupid. I could pay to dig up the tank and install my own but am very reluctant to do that because my swimming pool concrete is near the tank and I'm certain it would be ruined. But I'm afraid I've now reached the point that I'm going to proceed with that option this summer. read more

This is the worst company ever. I moved and they continue to charge me for a tank rental at my old residence which I moved from over a year ago and now are sending me collections letters for money I do not owe. Customer service is horrible and Tracey Morris never calls back... read more

Was a customer here for two years. You can't get them on the phone! Even after being put on will-call, they continued to show up and attempt to fill our tank. Months after cancelling our account, our tank is still sitting in our yard awaiting a pick-up that we were promised over and over again. Every time you call the corporate office, you get a different story, always with a promise that someone from Chester will call you back (but nobody does). Their propane prices are higher than area providers and we have since switched and been very happy. Very sloppy run business. read more

Completely terrible service. They refilled the tanks because of the previous service contract they had with the old homeowner. They then had us make a payment for the propane we didnt want/need and told us the service would continue like normal. Next day after payment was made they capped our propane leaving us with no heat and unable to cook. They then couldnt get anyone out to our home to uncap the service. After multiple phone calls to the national customer service and Chester office we were finally able to get it resolved. Dropped them immediately afterwards. read more

Prices are high, it is not easy to deal with accounting department. I switched to other company and happy that I did it.

I requested and paid for a delivery on dec10 they have 10 business days to get the delivery to u online it says my delivery was to be here dec21 I now have no heat or hot water plus I have a tenant with children... I called and have been having issues since I took over the account after my dad passed from covid he was a customer for 20 years they pride themselves on customer service I have been hung up on sat waiting for someone to answer on hold for 3 hrs. I called emergency number and was told they can't promise they will even be here today with a delivery. I have asked 5 diff times to speak to a supervisor they say they will forward the message I have yet to here from any one in charge.. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY MY TANKS WILL BE REMOVED IN THE SPRING TIME.. this is the worst propane company.. i was also told u can't rely on the online services well if u can't rely on when they say ur delivery will be here why have online services this is completely unacceptable.. I have called 7 on your side and emailed them. Oh ive also sent two emails to amerigas once again to no avail. I'm calling a laywer first thing Monday morning as well... do not use amerigas u will be sorry they don't even deserve one star they deserve negative stars they don't care oh and it's literally 19 degrees right now and I still don't know if I'm getting propane read more

This is a horrible, horrible company. I have been calling my local office for one month. I keep getting transferred to the national office. the representatives are helpful, but still can't seem to get my local office (chester office) to call me. They are expensive and last year, when I experienced the SAME problem, the woman I eventually spoke to in the chester office was so rude and abusive I was crying by the time I was allowed contact with a supervisor. if you are thinking about Amerigas.....DON'T. Run away very fast and find another company. read more

Simply horrible! Zero stars is not an option here unfortunately. Case in point. I ordered propane 3.5 weeks ago... gauge at 10%. I'm supposed to get automatic deliveries... forget about that! Since then I have called back at least 6 times... had to deal with the non functioning "voice recognition automated system"... which can't understand a thing I say... and which directs one to check online except I can't register because "that operation can't be done at this time" and no one has bothered to fix that for weeks now... which means one must wait on hold for at least 15 min to talk to someone at a centralized call center because the local offices have all been shut down. After all that, then I get promises for deliveries that never come. A week ago a driver finally came... to my billing address not the delivery address! Got more promises... and excuses. Today I'm sitting in a cold house... no heat, no stove, no hot water, nothing... AmeriGas has failed at every step of the most critical customer service requirements and I will have no recourse but to have them remove the tank and switch to a responsible alternative. read more

I've been a customer for 6 years. Generally the tank remained filled. But even when you are on contract, they seem to apply any price tag they want to,... bill you a higher rate and only adjust if you happen to notice it and complain. I feel dirty every time I have to talk with these people! We thought the oven had issues and paid a repairman $200 to replace the ignitor. In actuality we were totally OUT of gas - they simply forgot to fill it. I had to try about 5 different numbers for emergency service before I avoided the "fast busy" signal. Then they charged me $1.08 higher than the contract price I had signed 3 weeks earlier. Watch your Bill !! read more

Amerigas recently acquired or joined forces with Synergy/Heritage propane in New Jersey, January 2012. I was a customer of Amerigas for over 9 years. I am happy that I am no longer a customer of Amerigas and I feel there is a great deal of miscommunication and certain disregard for concerns of their customers especially out of the Chester office but it may be common practice in other areas of the country as well. Just be careful of the billing practices of Amerigas and watch out for new fees on your bill if you are on their budget plan. Tank rental fee for me was $90 a year which I had never seen before a couple of years ago and seems to be the highest after checking out other propane companies in the area. Do not think of trying to cut down on propane by winterizing your home because the less propane you consume you are dropped into a low usage category which may lead to possible fees and higher propane price for the following year. If you plan on leaving Amerigas please read all the fees associated with cancelling on their website. I was told that a few people from Heritage propane will be working out of the Chester office so maybe they can have a positive impact on operations. read more

Awful service. I moved into a house with an Amerigas propane tank, and they wanted to charge me a big chunk of money to "check" it, then never showed up for the appointment. The office was closed before the appointment window ended, so I couldn't even get in touch with anyone to find out what happened. Since then, I've switched providers (Region oil only charged me 20$ to install AND do the safety check), but Amerigas won't come pick up their tank! Tried to schedule in February, and they said someone would pick it up "in the spring." It's mid-May now, and I'm still waiting. read more

This might be the worst company I ever dealt with cant get anyone on the phone that can help. Was in a contract with them for over 10 years with auto bill pay they stopped taking money from my account because I had accrued a large credit then once my credit was used up the never started to take the funds from my account again. Then they hit me with a large bill and expected payment in full. When I told them I wanted to pay it off they told me I still had to pay large sums when I stated that this is why is was on a budget plan with them they really didnt care. they terminated my contract and left me high and dry only to leave there tanks on my property for months telling me they couldnt get them because of the bad winter with all the snow on the ground. ALL I CAN SAY IS STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY read more

I was a 15 year customer and they left me without gas over Christmas! 12-20 through 12-28 me and my family, including a senior citizen, had no heat or hot water and they refused to send a delivery without demanding a huge fee in advance.. Some would define that as extortion. They were rude, condescending, and arrogant on the phone. When you first sign up they want to deliver every week. If you ask them not to deliver as often, they stick it to you and don't come when you need them. Another example of corporate arrogance. No customer loyalty. Zero stars would be appropriate read more

This is the worst company imaginable to deal with. There is no customer appreciation or service

This is the worse company ever! Terrible and rude customer service reps at the Chester Office who keep you on hold for hours in hopes that you will leave them alone. They sell overpriced gas. If you lease a tank from Amerigas, be prepared to be held hostage. They will sell you gas at 4 - 6 bucks a gallon. If you try to buy the tank, they will charge thousands and tell you that their competitors will likely break the tank if you buy it and that Amerigas leases ensure you won't have costly repairs if anything related to the tank breaks. A ridiculous scare tactic to keep you as their customer - Their hostage that is... the Chester Office staff persons are rude and will never return calls or emails. I closed my account several times, but they continually show up on my property and try to sneak overpriced gas into my tank. Had to put a lock on my tank (had to purchase the tank for 2k) and had to install a surveillance camera. Scam artists and theives. Amerigas has no respect for consumers, sells overpriced gas, and has the worse customer service ever. They are uneducated clowns who need lessons on customer service. The propane industry remains unregulated allowing Amerigas to steal from hardworking families. read more
