I signed a contract expecting a straightforward tank swap, which I clearly communicated to the sales representatives. Despite this, the technician who was supposed to deliver the tanks called to say a site survey was required, completely unnecessary given that this was a simple replacement. When I contacted the office for an update, I was told it would be taken care of. Hours passed without any follow-up. I called again, my third time, and was told the technician would call me directly. He finally called at 3:30 PM to say he was tied up on another job and couldn't make it. Worse, I was told I'd now need to reschedule and wait another week. After five calls, it's clear AmeriGas has no regard for customer experience. There seems to be zero coordination between the sales team and the technicians regarding what the customer actually purchased. To add insult to injury, I'm now being told I'll have to pay over $150 plus tax to cancel a contract, even though not a single service has been performed. Just, don't. They have zero integrity. They will not adhere to any promised schedule. They will not properly monitor your tanks (as per your contracts) and don't care if you are out of propane, no matter the circumstances. When you've finally had enough and try to cancel, they will delay picking up the tank and impede replacement from your new supplier. When they do finally show up they will charge you a 300 tank pick-up fee. I do not know how they stay in business. This is a horrible company to do business with. Its customer service people are not trained to provide customer service. They think it is just easier to lie to you. I called the local provider to request an extremely rusted tank be replaced. After waiting weeks, a service tech came to replace the tank. Even though the type of tank etc is on their computer the service tech told us that he was sent out with the wrong tank and that replacing my tank was a two person job and he had been sent out by himself. He said he would return the following week to do the replacement. Never heard from him. A couple of weeks later I called the local provider again requesting tank replacement. I was told I had to wait for a scheduler to call me and that I would receive that call within 48 hours. Never called. Called the national office. Expressed my deep disgust, aggravation etc. supervisor, Calvin, asked me to give him 3 hours to talk with district manager. He PROMISED a callback within 3 hours to give me details. Never called. I called him the next day. The person who answered the phone at the national headquarters told me that Calvin did not work there, she couldn't transfer me to him because he didn't have an extension. She was very hard to understand and she hung up. I called back and requested again to speak with Calvin. Lo and behold I was transferred to him. He then told me that he had relied upon another person to respond to me and that he had confirmation that person had reached out to me. When I checked my phone I had a voicemail from Robin, a scheduler. Problem was that Robin's voicemail was time stamped 10 minutes after my second conversation with Calvin had begun. I wouldn't do business with Amerigas if they promised that they had a guaranteed winning lottery ticket they would give me. They are most often lying. Amerigas is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE company. I live in Charlotte, NC 28227. I ordered my tank refill on 1/17/2026 pursuant to the prebuy and will call. At the time I had 20% in my tank. I had quatriple bypass surgery on 1/20 and was released from the hospital on 1/24. Tank refill was scheduled for 1/26 to 1/29. During the early morning hours of 1/29, my propane furnaces ran out of propane as my tank was near 0 when I checked it. I immediately called and was advised it would be delivered that day or the next. The temperature in my home dropped to 50 degrees farhenheit. After repeated atempts It was not until I reported a gas leak on 2/3 in order to be heard. My tank was partially filled to 50% on that day and driver Julie advised the company was facing a shortage, which was the first time I heard of such. She advised that she would, subject to her supervisor's approval, come back and completely fill my tank. Meanwhile Amerigas filled my daughter's tank on or about 1/17 (which used to be my home for 33 years). She has automatic refill and her home is at the back of my farm. This is no way to treat a LONG time customer and may be reported to the NC Attorneys General Office in Raleigh. I've tried 4 times now to get a delivery to my house and everytime it does not happen and to now try to get it expedited they want to charge me $300 even though this should have been delivered almost a month ago at this point. I closed my account with AmeriGas after months of not responding to issues. On 11/25/2024 AmeriGas sent me a final bill indicating they owed me $185.71 I called to confirm and was told they would send me a check. That check for the balance owed never arrived. I called three times and was connected to the call center offshore who explained they are not connected to AermiGas and have no way to process the refund indicated on my final bill. I was basically told the best way to get my money is to take the company to court with a copy of the final bill. That means I need to file and spend money in small claims to get what is owed and admitted by AemeriGas as being owed. Terrible company and has months of issues. read more

I cancelled my service because of billing inconsistencies, and cancelling turned out to be an agonizing experience in itself. dealing with customer service was frustrating - hard to understand foreign-based reps. Pickup charge for the tank was outrageous (ended up costing more than $445.00). Trying to get credit for remaining propane in the tank and time left on tank lease was unsuccessful; I believe that they flat-out lied about the amount of propane that was left in the tank when they picked it up - Amerigas says it was less than 5%, which is hard to believe because the tank was filled just a few months ago. Haven't used my tank in three years so we asked for them to come pick up. We specifically asked if there was a charge, was told no. Driver came to pickup, I asked to see the paperwork to ensure no charge, he had none. I get charged almost $300 for this removal (I could've just returned it myself for free). I ask for an appeal but my account is supposedly closed so they say they will reopen and issue the appeal and never notify me. Now I'm another late fee charged and still no review and my account is still closed. How they are still in business with out the state investigating and shutting them down is crazy. read more

We have been loyal longterm customers to Amerigas. We had our tank filled recently. I was told by a live representative that we could do a 4 month/4 payment plan and start it on a certain day. I asked her specifically twice if we would be penalized or charged extra since it would be 2 days after the 30 day mark. She said No, there wouldn't be any issues. The entire amount was then withdrew from our bank account. I spoke to multiple people at Amerigas about this and asked for reimbursement and to set up the payment plan I was told we could do. I was told that they are sorry for misinforming me, but they cannot do anything about it now. No attempts made to reimburse this large lump sum. I have everything saved proving what I was told. We are going to be looking for a different propane company. They are in the wrong and refuse to do anything to fix it. I do NOT rec'd using them!! read more

Is there a rating below one star available? I am a customer of over 10+ years. We have had ups and downs in the past, but were always able to work through it. The last three months have been a bit ridiculous. I am on the "Automatic Delivery" system. Usually that means they deliver propane before I run out. The last three months I have gotten a delivery with my tank at 2% only after several hours on the phone complaining to multiple people who don't speak English. Once I could get to someone at a supervisory level I was able to get somewhere, but it took quite a bit of effort. Now I am in the same situation. Tank is at 11%, an order for propane was created 9 days ago and I am being told I will get propane in the "next several days". For context, I live in upstate NY, it is winter, I use propane as my heat source and I have two children under 10 who live in my house. And oh by the way, there is an Amerigas station less than 5 miles from my house. If you aren't an Amerigas customer, don't become one. If you are one, like me, review any contract you have with them to find a way to get out of it. I will be canceling my service as soon as winter is over and get a new provider prior to June 1, 2025 when my Amerilock contract is set to renew. read more

Distributor called and said I had to take two tanks I said no way period I called the 800 back tell him to cancel my order ,refund my money back to my credit card I was told we can't do that will send you a check within 2 weeks. This is arguably the worst company I have ever dealt with. Average of 10 to 14 days for delivery of gas for home heating and they will not even take your order until tank is below 30%. We were so low during the last cold snap that our tank was empty by the time they finally got here - and we had had paid the $300 expedited 24 to 48 hour delivery fee. Did not get our gas for days. Since our tank was empty by the time we got here they said we had to pay $140 for a leak check test. Never actually saw them do the leak test but they charged us $140. And they kept our $300 expedited delivery fee even though they did not meet their contractual obligation of expedited delivery. I have called in three times with no success to get the $300 credited back to our account. Each and every time the answer is we have passed along the problem to billing and they will get back to you within two days. This has been going on since January. It is now February 19 and we still have not been refunded the $300. If you ask to speak to a manager, the canned response is always "There are no managers working today". read more
