I couldn't be happier with the care and service I received at American Vision this last week on October 31st. I needed glasses for school, and despite the craziness of trick or treaters coming in and out of the office, Dr Elyse Decker and Eddie helped me so much through the frame selection process. They gave such personalized service, explained everything in detail and made me feel really cared for. They have such a wide selection of frames( including lots of high end designers such as Gucci, ferragamo, Valentino, Calvin klein, ray ban) however I ended up with a beautiful and unique frame from Cole Haan. They adjusted my frame too at no cost when I picked up. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area, they truly are pros at what they do! read more

Do not waste your time and money at this venue. I went to American Vision in June to get my eyes examined for new lenses and they ended up charging an arm and a leg. They said that they would call me in a week to pick up my glasses so I went to the store over a week later since I hadn't heard back from them. The rude admin who works there initially said that they don't have my glasses and even had the nerve to say that I never left them there. She could not find my receipt (signs of horrible inventory tracking) and rolled her eyes at me saying that I was mistaken. I get a call from them a few hours later saying they found my glasses and did not even acknowledge that they had made the mistake. GO TO COSTCO INSTEAD. My husband spent a 1/3 of the price for better service and larger selection than these unprofessional amateurs. read more

The opthamologist here has a bad attitude. I am in my mid 30s and she treats me like I am some kind of child. Literally yelling at me because I made the simple mistake of looking left instead of up AND left. I understand that doctors are busy and have other appointments but this lady is a complete b*tch. Also, I kept insisting that I have had problems with amblyopia in my 30 plus years of life and she yelled at me for that too, saying I don't have it. She didn't even test me for it. My guess is, the copay is all the same to her so why bother wasting the time. This happened on two separate occassions (refusal to look into my amblyopia). She yelled at me saying I dont have it both times, and this was only after sitting on the chair while she was reading the paperwork I filled out. It was literally like de ja vu. The woman (I find it hard to call her a doctor), is a complete b*tch. Oh and by the way, I've been told by multiple people recently that they are noticing my amblyopia more and more. I will be going to see a REAL doctor today, not this wanna-be real housewives of Long Island. read more

I have been going here for about 3 years now. I have had no issues as far as getting my eyes checked and getting my frames/contacts. Very nice people and they let me take as long as I wanted to pick out my frames. I also tried on a variety of contacts to find the ones that fit and felt the best. read more

I had went here as a last resort. I needed a eye doctor to do a eye test for my driver license renewal. What an incredible nice staff! They took me in! I didn't wait at all! The examiner was a very nice person as well! It only took less than one minute and filled out my eye test report! it only costs me 10 dollars! This place is great! And mind you, I went to a number of places in my ghettohood and they charged a arm and a leg, had attitude and no doctor was available! I highly recommend this place! read more

I had never written anything on Yelp before even though I always visit to read reviews, but I felt compelled to register and write one myself warning people about this place due to so many bad experiences. I went to the location on Bayside for several checkups and each and every time I received the most condescending service...and not just for myself, since I was there to witness other customers receiving and reacting towards the same attitude. The optometrist had a very strong personality and seemed to think eye-rolls at her client's opinions are professional. She also talked in the snarkiest of voices. I just it's horrible how they don't seem to value their customers since they continually talk down to people as if they are better than them, which is not the case. Simply put, the "services" they offer are NOT AT ALL good enough to make up for such bad service towards their customers! It really isn't worth the effort / annoyance to put up with them. read more

My wife and I had to find a new source for glasses after 20 plus years of using the same optometrist. We walked into American Vision by chance and we were immediately welcomed by the staff and made to feel very comfortable. After some short conversation we came to find that this is a family owned store with a very professional staff. They were very helpful in assisting us in making the proper choices in picking out our new frames and finalizing the lenses. She and her dad run the practice. She is thorough, sweet, personable and professional. And when it's time to choose glasses she stays in the budget you set and helps find something that really suits. I came here due to a lsst minute emergency. My puppy got his paws on my glasses gnawing and damaging them. I needed new glasses and contacts right away. I have not used American Vision but my elderly aunt does. What care the professionals there provide! Not only are they gentle and patient but they understand about her budget and her needs. She recently dropped them and they got stepped on. I brought them in and they were repaired right on the spot. NO CHARGE. She was thrilled, I was thrilled. The first time I came in, three years ago, for an eye exam and to get contact lenses, I full-on cried in poor Dr. Teran's chair. I've worn glasses since I was in first grade and had been terrified/always majorly disgusted by eye-stuff (like, couldn't watch other people even put eye drops in their own eyes, that kind of stuff). But with much patience from Dr. Teran and the staff there, they helped me get over my fear. Everyone's always been helpful and friendly whenever I've called or come in, never had a bad visit. Made me feel very comfortable being there even though I felt uneasy getting my 1st pair of extra eyes. I have been going to this eye doctor since I was little. It's definitely changed since the owner's daughter took over. She is very condescending, rude, and not willing to work with you at all. I wanted to try a particular brand of contacts and she said "nope" I don't like how those fit on the eyes. She refused to even let me have a trial pair to see for myself. I have since gone to another doctor who gave me what I wanted and I am very satisfied. Her prices are also higher than most. There are many other kind and compassionate eye doctors in the area. Doctor was great and explained everything beautifully. This was my first time where I felt I may need reading glasses (I'm 47) - they were very thorough, patient and helpful in determining my insurance plans, and very honest not pushing the most expensive frames. All in all, a totally positive and informative experience - I'm taking my 11 year-old there soon. read more

It's my prescription and they are not allowed to keep it from me!! Grr go to another store that has a better doctor and staff! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME... they sold me glasses for distance which I did not really need it's a mild prescription and a waste of $200 which they won't refund me because they said I needed them. The doctor talks so much and doesn't listen to you and is NOT REALLY HONEST especially if you never had glasses and don't anything about it. THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF YOU! But when I went to my regular eye doctor he said my eyes were fine and I did not need them at all just some lubricant and allergy drops of my eyes and that will solve my problem. I had gone back numerous times complaining that my new glasses bother me and I don't really see a difference and they said to me because it's so mild I wouldn't. SO WHY DID THEY SELL ME GLASSES JUST TO MAKE MONEY THAT'S WHY. NEVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN!! I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU GO EITHER. I am so upset with this place!! read more

I came here for my first eye exam in years! Wasn't too sure what to expect but I knew I was in good hands from the moment I walked in. I was greeted warmly and informed of everything my insurance would cover me for. When I was being examined, we reviewed my paperwork to make sure everything was noted and the doctor answered all my questions in depth. The staff helped me customize the lenses and pick out frames that fit my face best. It's so nice when you have people who actually want to see you leave their store happy and that is exactly what they did for me. A+ experience. Took me for a same day appointment and the doctor took me right away despite the fact that I was 15 minutes late. The office was clean (they even doctor sanitized the eye gear in front of me! Overall experience was excellent. My contacts ended up costing less than expected, and the doctor-- she was thorough, professional, friendly, and willing to answer all of my questions! I recently had cataract surgery in both eyes. As a result while I no longer needed glasses for walking around, I did need them for driving. My ophthalmologist performed the refraction exam and among the places he suggested fill the prescription he recommended American Vision. I was very pleased with their service. They had exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price and, the best part, were able to complete the job within an hour. read more

This was my first visit to this place for my eye examination and purchase of eyeglasses. I received a very warm welcome and was greeted with a smile. The doctor was very knowledgeable and professional upon completing a very thorough eye examination. He explained everything to my satisfaction. Then I was directed to the optical dept. where I found a large collection of reasonably priced frames. The progressive lenses I made there were without a doubt, the best I've had yet. I was hesitant to go to American Vision because of the bad reviews I read here on Yelp. But it's just around the neighborhood, so I decided to give them a call at around 4 pm. The guy I talked to said I could drop by later that day since they don't have any more appointments. Well, it was raining so bad, but I still decided to go. The eye exam went well, and I had to choose a frame. The girl who was there to assist me in choosing the frame was very helpful, and she explained very well, what my insurance covers. I ended up getting a frame which exceeds the cost covered by my insurance. But that was my choice because that's the design I wanted. She didn't try to oversell the other added options. I took my time choosing a frame. She said I could pick up my glasses after 10 days. They called me early that day when my pair of glasses was available for pick up. They were not very friendly but I got the glasses I wanted. I'd go back to American Vision the next time I need a new pair of glasses. read more

I wish I could give American Vision in Bayside on Bell Blvd. zero stars this place is the worst! I guess because I used Medicaid for my eye check up it warranted a whole different level of disrespect. From the very moment I was given the paperwork to fill out by the lady doctor I felt subjected to disrespected. She gives me the paperwork and a pen starts to walk away then turns back and says please make sure you give back my pen. I wanted to show her the $300.00 Cross pen I had in my bag. Anyways moving on I chose a frame that was moderately priced (245/250) had the eye exam. When it was time to pay I only had a $100 in my pocket at first the doctor didn't want to accept it stating that I needed to leave more than half before they could order my glasses, I told her that I never carry more than $100 but that I would be back on Thursday to pay in full because I worked in the area and would be back near there on that day. (Oh did I mention that I walked in there on a whim), any ways pay for the glasses pick them up the following week and was happy until 3 months that's THREE MONTHS later was getting ready for work the damn glasses fell apart! I mean just broke of course I thought I did something, but let's get something straight I have been wearing glasses since I was six years old! I may have dropped them once or twice but nothing to make the break like that! I took them back and was helped by the older man that works there (said he was in charge), was really nice, even while he wasteland me that I didn't get my glasses there. Anyways first he tried to tell me that I didn't get the glasses there then he tried to say that it was a brand that they didn't carry, of course I had my receipt. Then came with this crazy statement oh yes I just didn't recognize the particular brand. Any who he replaces them for free with a frame that I felt was very substandard but I was desperate, he tells me to come back between 6 or 6:30 to pick them up. I get there at 6:15 and the place is closed I mean locked up lights out closed. They close at 7:00 so I wait till 6:45, they are closed. So I go back the next day the guy who cut the lens tells me that he was sorry but they had to order a new lens because when he was cutting the lens it broke! He tells me that he could not understand why because that had never happened to him. (Really?).......I'm going to stop there and just end this story cause they suck and you can see that from just what I wrote so far. I ended up going back 2 more time cause each time the frame was replaced they broke not even four months later I mean really this was a substandard pair of glasses. The last time they broke the arm just fell off I mean the entire piece the medal part that holds the arm in place and all, I was done because they made me pay $30.00 for the cheesy frame after the first time. I went to another place asked the doctor if they could put my lenses into another frame and he did just that I paid $50.00 for the frame and I have not had to replace them yet and that was last year this time, and I dropped this frame down a flight of stairs and they held up. So American Vision is the worst place I have ever been too and will never go there again! read more
