Right when I walked in, I was greeted and asked what I needed help with. Such a rarity these days, to be welcomed like that right when you walk through the door! I had an online pick up order for a battery for my car key fob. They knew who I was, and it was quick and easy to pick up. I mentioned to the employee helping me, Cameron, that I always struggle with replacing the battery for my key fob. And then he offered to do it. It's very complicated I should mention! It's not easy, but he looked up how to do it and did it. So awesome & much appreciated! My mother lives just a few blocks away and she said they're always so helpful as well. This store will also recycle batteries and lightbulbs. Just a FYI. I wish my Ace Hardware back home was this friendly and accommodating. Excellent customer service all the way around. read more

Outstanding customer service! We took in two window screens--one that needed to be completely replaced and another that just needed a repair. We were told it would take about a week and a half, but to our surprise they had both ready in just 24 hours! We couldn't believe the turnaround time. On top of that, Kira the checker went above and beyond helping my mom. She no longer had the Ace Rewards app on her Samsung phone and wasn't sure how to check for coupons. Kira patiently helped her download the app, get everything set up again, and even found a $5 coupon that my mom was able to use toward the purchase of her screens. It's rare to find this level of friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring customer service. The entire experience was phenomenal from start to finish. Do NOT go here for Benjamin Moore paint! The "salespeople" here know NOTHING about it, today I met the THIRD employee who said "I don't know" to a SIMPLE question about a paint card. And MEGAN is the worst of them. Makes up ten samples of paint for me, and then expects me to hand carry them across the store to the cashier. Another employee finally got me a box after MEGAN said she "didn't have any". What a LAZY employee! It is WELL WORTH the drive to Loomis to THE PAINT STORE. Left Lowe's angry because NO ONE around to help me buy a weed eater. Needed a lightweight model. Displays were tied to wall so I couldn't test and boxes were all locked up so I couldn't check specs. Left angry and headed to Ace. Was greeted when I walked in. Immediately found someone to help. Courteous. Guided me to egos. Unlocked case. Helped me find info regarding weight and battery charge time to figure out best model for me. I paid $40 more just because I was helped. My time was worth it. My neighborhood Ace! Easy in and out! This location is right by the Starbucks and Round Table on Madison. We have been coming here for many many years. Everyone is always happy and helpful and you are greeted when you come in. They have lots of paint choices. And, on a weird note, they always seem to have that one random kind of lightbulb I need.... They make keys while you wait and have loads of the basics you need for your DIY. Fun fact - it reminds me of an old time store - because they have fresh candy and drinks in front. Although this ACE doesn't have a large selection of garden ornaments/art and outdoor furniture like some locations it is always my "go to" location . Close by, typically have everything I need, fair if not great prices , and the service is always outstanding. I have been in there 3 times in the last few weeks and their associate JD happened to be who helped me each time. He is knowledgeable, professional and most of all so very friendly and helpful. You don't get that in the big box stores which is why I prefer to shop at our local ACE store. read more

I love Ace Hardware! This review is for the new store in Fair Oaks on Madison Ave and Fair Oaks Blvd (but the American River Ace has always been amazing too. The whole entire staff goes out of their way to be helpful. They never make you feel like you're an inconvenience no matter how silly or difficult the request is. I came in this morning to try and figure out a way to connect a garden hose to my shower so I can wash my dog outside with warm water. It took about 15 minutes and 2 helpful employees, but we came up with a solution and I have one very large and happy pooch now! I also had a client event where I needed specific pies for each person. It was over 2 days, so I needed to make multiple trip. They recognized me right away and even offered to set some of the more popular choice aside for me so I didn't have to drive to a bunch of different stores to get them. The event was a HUGE success in a large part to them. I LOVE my local Ace!!! read more

Purchased a Traeger grill a few days before Thanksgiving and it ended up being defective. It was a bummer because I had to take my turkey off of the grill and put it into the oven which delayed the dinner. Called the store and awaited a call back from the specialist through the weekend and didn't hear anything. I'm assuming he was too busy. Frustrated, I called the following week and set up an exchange. I was supposed to drop the grill off but I hurt my back. Spoke with the manager and they came and delivered and exchanged the grill for me for free as well as pre-fired it to make sure that it was working. This is why I shop at this store specifically. They went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy and went the extra mile. I appreciate it and they've earned a customer for life as great customer service is hard to come by nowadays. I had ordered a couple of items online, for store pickup, and the online order system somehow cancelled one item I really wanted. Yesterady, I called the store, and the staff (Geni) took her time to make sure the store's warehouse had the item in stock and submitted a special order so that I could pick it up when they deliver (today). This morning, I called and went to pick it up, and everyone who helped me were so nice and helpful. I saw there were a lot of staff making sure every customer was getting help he/she needed. No one in this store has any product or business knowledge except James Brooks. End of last year Ace sent out a sale mailer, with Ace Rewards Cards, that covered the entire month or January. NO ONE I spoke with this morning even had any knowledge of the 6 special coupons in the mailer, or the content of each. I have been in this store over 100 times, and a Ace Rewards for 20 years, and NEVER run into the level of incompetence of this store. When I mentioned my issues to the cashier, I could only find 1 of the 4 items I went for, she told me NOT TO BOTHER COMMING BACK!!!! Because I could only find 1 item I could not even use the Rewards discount. So if you still decide to got to this DUMP, look for James Brooks, only guy in the entire place that is helpful and knowledgeable. Management - I would fire the two females that were there, especially the cashier. They are hurting your business. read more

I'm sure you've all heard the age old Ace Hardware jingle - "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks." Well, let me assure you that not all Ace Hardware stores are not created equal, as there is a BIG difference in the level of customer service you get from one Ace Hardware to another. So, I'm writing this review to let everyone know that THIS American River Ace Hardware IS the place with the helpful hardware folks! They completely understand what great customer service is truly all about! I tried for over 2 weeks to purchase a Weber grill from a different Ace Hardware in Cameron Park, with no luck at all. After many phone calls, emails and a bunch of wasted time with the manager of that store, I finally got frustrated and decided to give American River Ace Hardware a call, even though they were further away from us....and boy am I glad I did! A very nice guy named Mike took my call and when I inquired about a Weber grill, he explained that Danny is the Weber grill expert, but that he was with a customer, so he'd have him call me back. Danny called me back in about 10 minutes and I told him about my very poor experience at the other Ace Hardware, explaining that I'm trying to purchase a new Weber grill, with 2 new full propane tanks and a grill cover for my 82-year old mother, who lives in El Dorado Hills....explaining that I live in the East Bay, so I wanted to pay for the grill on the phone and have them assemble and deliver this new grill to her, as I was trying to get mom to eat a little better during this pandemic and we'd decided that if we could get her grilling a couple of nights a week, it would motivate her to eat better. Danny was amazing...he called the local warehouse to confirm they had the model we wanted, then he drove right over there and picked it up, had it assembled in a couple of hours and he personally delivered it to my mom's house, rolled it around to the back yard for her, hooked up the propane tank and made sure everything was working properly....AND even took her old grill away for us! What took weeks at the Cameron Park Ace Hardware and was met with constant poor attitudes, terrible customer service, and lack of follow-up, was all handled in the same day by Danny at American River Ace Hardware! First off, it is an Ace Hardware so the prices are twice as much as a big box hardware store and the selection is less. That is a given. Where it is different from the big box stores is the customer service. The American River Ace customer service is excellent. 99% of the staff members I have encountered in the 2 1/2 years I have been going there are extremely helpful. They are willing to help. I usually go there when I am in the middle of a home project and need a part or tool in order to finish it and I do not have time to go to the other stores. It saves me time. I also go there for potting soil because the price is fairly competitive. Once a year, usually November or December, they have a customer appreciation night where all items except for the thermal vision scopes, are 25% off. I always look forward to that. You can also enroll in Ace Reward which gives you monthly discounts. read more

To be honest, in my mind, Ace Hardware was a business that was on the fringes, unable to compete with the "big boys" (Lowes, Home Depot, etc), much less the huge online retailers like Amazon. For some reason, I viewed them as a byproduct of the 1970's retail era. However, that was all in my mind; I'd never actually walked into one of their stores. This review reflects my first actual experience with Ace, and it was at this American River location. I wanted to get a nicer model Weber Propane grill. I was in disbelief and delight that Ace's prices were the same as Amazon AND they offer free assembly and delivery. How could that be?? To good to be true! Danny brought out the unit with one of his assistants, it was a Weber Spirit model. I decided after two days that I didn't like the unit and wanted to get something more high end - a Weber Genesis SE 410. This was clearly my fault and Danny had the best attitude ever about it. He told me he'd get me the new unit over and take the old one back and sell it as a display model. And he did it all with a smile. He handled all the paperwork personally, doing everything he could to make the process easier for ME instead of for him. This is a manager who gets his hands dirty... he doesn't just oversee, he also does the work and maintains direct customer connection. All he cared about was me being happy. You're not going to get that overwhelming focus at any of the other businesses I mentioned above. I loved my new BBQ but realized it wasn't getting hot enough. Danny to the rescue. He was personally vested in me being delighted. We talked over the phone a couple of weeks later and he remembered everything about my setup. He said we need to change out my existing gas flexible piping to the BBQ (to make them bigger) and he personally worked through all the parts I needed, and it wasn't a quick deal, he had to do lots of mental imaging to make sure he got everything right. He want and got all the right parts himself, and all I had to do was pay. It would have taken me hours to do that myself, and I would have still gotten it all wrong. Then I bought a propane smoker shortly thereafter, and he went and got all the right parts for that too! He even came to my house and walked me through full install (he couldn't do it himself for liability reasons, but it was his commitment to my delight that drove him to be so hands on). Now both my units had the new piping and other parts. He wouldn't leave my house until he had me test both units, and even with the smoker on as well (running from the same but now larger propane line), the BBQ ran hotter than before when it was running independently. I was thrilled. Words cannot explain how much my perception of Ace Hardware has changed and also how incredible of an employee Danny is. I can't think of a time where I've met someone who took more pride in their work than him. Throughout all of this, I think he came to my house 3 or 4 times. It turns out that the whole advertising jingle "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man" is true! Forget everyone else, this is my new one stop shop for any and all home improvement needs and projects. These guys are the best. Promote Danny to store manager!! read more

Every time I walk in here for some reason I get that "Mom and Pop" feel. The place is not huge yet they carry anything I've ever asked for. I go in there mostly to rent their "Carpet Butler". It's cheaper than anywhere else (less than 30 bucks plus a deposit they put on hold) and although I have to use muscle power, everything comes out wonderfully clean. I get my carpets professionally cleaned but there is always the hallways and a mishap or two between cleanings that are not worth calling the professionals for. The people that work there have always been very sweet and very polite with me and always offer to help me out to my car with the carpet cleaning contraption. I love just walking around the place looking at things like I know what I'm doing. Ha! Nobody seems to be bothered by it either and if I look really lost... someone always comes to the rescue to ask if I need assistance. read more

Most recently, I came in for a small part and was immediately greeted and assisted in finding the part. Headed to the cashiers. Cheerful and earnestly interested in my day, so it seemed (not just the one helping me but all of them and there was more than one cashier!). This is the experience I've had each time I've been in the store - whether I bought something or not. I suppose that's why I return to shop again.
