We have used American Plumbing for our plumbing needs since we first moved to the Bay Area 28 years ago. At Christmas that year we had a house FULL of people and, on Christmas Eve, one of the toilets got clogged up (a disaster with 12 overnight guests). I called American Plumbing at 6pm on 12/24 and they had someone out that night to get the toilet working again. Since then we have used them repeatedly and EVERY SINGLE TIME they have done an outstanding job. This Monday I found water on the garage floor in front of the hot water heater. Our contractor confirmed the problem was the hot water heater. I called American Plumbing that morning and gave them all the details. They call back almost immediately and confirmed that (1) the replacement water heater is in stock at their local supplier, and, (2) they could have 2 guys out the NEXT MORNING (Tuesday) to do the work!!! Take about amazing service. They came at 10:30am on Tuesday and, by 2pm, the new water heater was installed. Great cleanup and neat installation job. So 28 years of consistently great service. I have used their services for a few years now. Mark is a good manager and runs his business very good. Every plumbing technician that has come to my house and my son's house last month, has been very professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. When my main drain was completely clogged a couple months ago, they came out within 30 minutes. Mark let me know that they would take care of it by that afternoon, but the tech came out sooner. Each technician always leaves me with some very good tips on how to maintain my plumbing. I highly recommend these guys for your plumbing needs. He was charging by the hour offered us a 7k job and then when we declined offered to powerwash for 1800. Called American Plumbing and Josh was informative and had us up and running less than an hour. I called American Plumbing on a Sunday requesting service for my hot water heater because the pilot light would not come on and so therefore, I had no hot water. I was told that someone by the name of Jose would call me back the same day. Here it is Tuesday and still no call back from Jose or anyone. I called American Plumbing back on Tuesday to express my concerns and was told that by one of their representatives that she wasn't the one who told me that Jose would call me back because she wasn't working on Sunday and asked for my name and number so someone can call me back. No apology or anything. I didn't give her my name and number because I had gotten it repaired by another company. But, what's the point of being open 24/7 and no one calls you back. That isn't good customer service at all. I guess being without hot water isn't important to them. read more

I had a water leak in the house, a leak detection company pinpointed the leak to be in the slab, and said I need to re-pipe around the leak. After shopping around American plumbing gave me the best estimate. After I hired them for the job, their plumber figured out that the leak was not in the Slab but it actually was in the kitchen wall from the upstairs bathroom, this saved me lots of $$$$ and lots of un necessary work !! These guys were amazing. After experiencing slab leak in our home my wife and I were very nervous to go ahead with a repipe. After getting three quotes, American Plumbing gave a fair estimate. American always answered the phone when I called and was willing to work with the price of the estimate to make me more comfortable. Rob and his team were booked two days later and showed up on time. The project was completed on time and on budget. These guys have attention to detail and were very courteous. They made this nightmare so easy. I'm very impressed with the workmanship and professionalism. They only had the water off for a half day and saved all the neat cuts of drywall they made to make drywall repair easier in the future. First off, I want to apologize to anyone who's done any business with American Plumbing Company located in Antioch, CA. Had this review been completed and posted when this experience happened to me, it may have prevented someone from having a horrible experience or a costly one which is worse! Here is my story and I hope everyone has the time to review this post. My mother was visiting me and had smelled gas coming from the cabinet below the stove. I smelled it many times before but it was only present when I first opened the cabinet and then the smell would disappear quickly and usually not return until hours after the cabinet remained closed. We decided to call Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to have them check to see if there were any leaks. The PG&E technician did a spray test and right away he was able to detect a very tiny leak that was of no urgency or danger but he did suggest we call a Plummer because most likely the leak was coming from one of the hoses underneath the cabinet which connects the stove to the gas. The next morning we called the plumber. They did the same spray test as PG&E and claimed to have found NO LEAKS. We were not confident with their findings and told them there has to be a leak as we smelled gas and PG&E confirmed that discovery, the day before. I even told the plumber that PG&E said the leak was most likely coming from the hose. They did another spray test on the hoses and still they determined there was no leak whatsoever! They decided to have me do process of elimination suggesting that perhaps one of the pots or pans may have had left over gas residue or perhaps the leak was so slow that it was only present some of the time. I followed their instructions and was told to not open the cabinet until the next day and to call them if the smell had retuned. It did. They came back a 2nd time only this time they sent 2 different employees. Because their spray test yielded the same result (NO LEAKS) they suggested that the leak might be coming from the stove. Fast forward to the appliance store where this person came to my house and did a spray test on the entire stove and its parts that he was able to reach) and found nothing. He determined that most likely if it were the stove, he would have to replace the entire unit. We did and we were told that all of the hoses would also be replaced with the new appliance - total charge to the Appliance Store - $1400. The day after the job was completed, I opened the cabinet in the morning and guess what? Yes, the gas smell was still there! Immediately, I noticed they did NOT replace the original hose so I called them to complain, as they did promise everything would be replaced and since I was charged, it was only "right" that they come back and do what they promised to do. Here's where we come FULL CIRCLE to this nightmare! The hose was replaced and since then, NO MORE GAS SMELL & LEAKS. HAD AMERICAN PLUMBING COMPANY DO THEIR JOB CORRECTLY AND AT THE ADVICE OF PG&E, this entire fiasco and nightmare would have never happened and my cost would have been a service charge fee plus the price of that leaky hose (~$100). My effort for taking the time to write this review is to prevent a person from going through this B.S. all because a manager [from American Plumbing Company] did NOT care to listen to me when I called back. But instead, was condescending and rude. A word of PROFESSIONAL advice to AMERICAN PLUMBING COMPANY: Word of mouth is EVERYTHING around here and those who adhere to this concept will be winners and those who do not, will eventually be forced to shut their doors, permanently! read more

Can't say enough about this company and technician Randall. They did some work at my home 2 years ago and the same problems started returning. I couldn't find my original paperwork so Randall researched and found the original report notes. It turned out there was a disconnect between the person who provided the estimate and the person doing the work. Bottom line-they made good on the project. My property manager said American Plumbing tried giving me and wife a call, but we saw no evidence or missed calls from them. When the service person arrived my wife asked him to wear booties, She even offered him some, but he said that his shoes were clean and walked right past my wife. He was here two minutes and charged $190, to turn the garbage disposal. We explained that the garbage disposal was leaking but he did everything from the standing position and never looked with a light under the sink. The garbage disposal continued to leak. We call their property management company to resolve the issue. This time when American plumbing called their phone number clearly came up on our phone. The manager called me at 9:30am stating that the driver had arrived already and I told him that I was heading there and will arrive BEFORE 10am. I also stated that I had a contractor in my building installing floors and the driver was welcome to go in and take a look upon my arrival. No communication! Placed a service call for water leaks on our water heater. Technician replaced the water heater without consulting with us. We were then left with an expensive bill. We have no choice but to pay for it. If we knew the water heater has to be replaced, we would definitely find a handy man to do the job for a much cheaper price. In any case, I just don't think it is right to replace the water heater without consulting with the customer. We called them afterwards, was on hold for the longest time so we decided to hang up. I live in a multiunit building, and property management called American Plumbing for damage downstairs. So I can't comment about speed of response or cost. But the leak was in a copper pipe in my wall, so I can comment about competence. I didn't even know that they were coming. Some mystery plumber showed up at my door, came in, looked at the wall, cut a few exploratory holes in it, and had the leak plugged within 5 minutes. Later, he came back (on time) with a buddy to replace the culprit segment of pipe. Nice guys, no drama. read more

American Plumbing has enjoyed a hefty volume of business in my HOA of 100 owners. But it's time for us to look for another provider that we recommend to our owners. Their pricing has ceased to be competitive and they have had a change in personnel. Recently I called to get a kitchen faucet I had purchased installed. When I called, they quoted me a $350. price for labor. When the repair man came he said it would be $400 and he would install it in five days after I had permission for water shut off. When it was installed, the guy charged me $425. He spent less than one hour in my unit. The first guy who came was not forth coming when answering questions and very condescending to a woman. He did not do a full assessment of my problem and so a leaking disposal was left for a later time. Not good value for my money and loyalty. No more. read more
