I was able to leave them in my apartment & have them drop off the keys to management. Since the elevator couldn't be reserved @ my old apartment, it took longer. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. My wife and I have relocated 3X in the past five years. Using corporate relocation services, Allied Van Lines and a few weeks ago - Bekins/American Moving. This by far is the worst experience we've ever had. The terms "bait & switch" and "misleading" are the overriding themes. We hired Bekins/American Moving to move our four-bedroom home from Castle Pines, CO to Lakeville, MN on 8/24 - 9/10. The first part of the moving experience was good and met expectations. The team that arrived was professional, hardworking and appeared to take good care of our furnishings. That is where the quality customer service ended. From that point forward we felt we had been set-aside as our credit card had been charged and we were no longer a priority. Specifically: From the point of loading our home on 8/24, we had no proactive communications on the delivery. I would call and leave a message with the move coordinator and wouldn't hear back. I would call the Salesperson and he would call back but it felt like he didn't have complete information. When I asked about the timing of the delivery of our goods less than a week out, I had to call multiple times. This information was important to us as we were trying to juggle personal and professional schedules and wanted to ensure we were ready when Bekins arrived. We were living in a hotel at this point and trying to coordinate when to meet and move into our home. Because we were getting no response, I called the destination agent and they seemed totally confused. They gave us the load date in Colorado as the delivery date which made no sense. I finally got a response from American Moving and was told to expect the furnishings on 9/8. We then received a call to inform us that the furnishings would now be delivered on Sunday, 9/10. We were told the movers would deliver our furnishings between 8:00am and 10:00am on 9/10. They arrived Sunday shortly after all 11:00 in a U-Haul truck and trailer with some of our furnishings strapped to the top of the trailer. This was far from what was sold! As Bekins states, "we take care of our furnishings as if they are our own". Really!!??I The two men who arrived had just driven 1,000 miles in 1 day were tasked to then unload our furnishings. There was no additional crew. There was no supervisor. They didn't do a walk-through of our home. They didn't ask questions. They didn't take steps to PROTECT our new home. When asked about the carpet protection, they responded they didn't have any. We called American Moving to state our dissatisfaction at the lack of care, unpreparedness and request a full crew with the necessary supplies to protect the house. We stated we were willing to wait another day so this could be done correctly. We were told this is the crew that was available and there was nothing else they could do. I personally left to go find some carpet protection while they started unloading. I was unable to find any and then the two movers both left in the truck and returned in about an hour - with the cellophane carpet protection. They did find padding to partially protect the stairwell. By the time the house was partially protected, it was nearing 1:00pm. My wife and I (both in our 60s) helped carry many of the boxes and directed some of the boxes to be put in the garage to save time. In the end, the unloading took from 11:10am to 9:30pm and the movers left before everything was complete. In addition to carrying boxes, my wife and I unboxed and assembled several items that were packed by the movers. Several pieces of furniture were damaged and a brand-new carpet soiled from the mover's shoes. We will process an insurance claim for the furniture. We hired and paid $15,000 for a professional moving company. This is far from what we received. This was, at best an amateur, unorganized, uncaring delivery of our furnishings (repacked in a smaller truck and strapped to the top of a trailer)! If we had known this was the service we would receive from a company "making moving easy since 1891" and that we would have to help with the process, I never would have hired Bekins/American Moving. Even after requesting to speak to the salesperson/owner of American Moving, he hasn't responded to my request to speak to him since these issues began and delegated any interactions to a subordinate. read more

I wish I could give this company a 0. This moving company is a nightmare. Hired for a move from Denver to Charlotte, delivery June 9- 23. I was repeatedly promised my belongs would go "directly onto a truck and the delivery date would just be where I was on the route." This is NOT true. Your belongings will go into a warehouse. My belongings were kept in a warehouse until June 27th. 4 days past delivery date. I had to call corporate repeatedly because Stephanie and Gene would not give any answer besides "wErE wAiTiNg oN a dRiVeR," 18 times. Horrible customer service, Unresponsive. When they finally delivered my furniture over 2 weeks late, they lost my king size mattress. The level of incompetence is astounding. Do not hire this moving company. All in all, it was a good move. The employees worked hard and were eager to please. My furniture arrived on time. Unfortunately, the move was complicated by a snowstorm and a mover who became quite ill during our long distance move. There were definitely a few rough spots, and the slow and terse responses from one person initially made me angry. However, my complaints eventually made it to Gabriel, the owner of American Moving. Gabriel was genuinely concerned about my issues and feelings. He addressed each issue (no matter how small) with compassion for both myself and his hard-working employees. Best of all, he used my complaints as a tool for improving American's processes. I am satisfied with the owner's response, and feel that his company is the better for having encountered and over-coming our challenges. I now feel comfortable recommending American Moving for your move, whether it's across town or across the state. Got quotes from various people and services, but this one seemed the best. Bryan gave me a very accurate quote over Zoom due to the pandemic and the final result was pretty spot on. He stated we'd need 2 trucks and 4 movers and will take about 8 hours to complete. And it did and took just that! 8 hours later, we were in our new home. Nothing damaged and all working fine. If I had to provide feedback for improvement would be to have items placed where they're labeled on the boxes. I get it moving is hard, so I'm not too grumpy about finding bedroom boxes in the garage and kids room boxes in the living room, etc., but overall awesome service. Very respectable movers, pointing out issues prior to moving them. Disassembled my bed, re-assembled at the end. Threw all the "onesie twosies" I failed to pack properly in a box for me. read more

I hired these movers in July 2021 to move me on September 5, 2021. They never showed up. I had to get on the phone and continually badger them to get their truck and their men to my house. Initially when I called them, they said they had no truck available. When they finally did come later in the day they loaded everything on the truck and took it to their warehouse. It was stored there for a week or two and then shipped to my storage facility in Durham, North Carolina. I came to find out later that they never delivered my master bed, two end tables, an 8 foot ladder, a 10 foot ladder, a nice casual outside folding chair, as well as several boxes that would have contained clothing, a couple lamps, support beams for my second queen bed and other items. When they were unloading the truck at my storage facility, three men are moving so fast unloading that it's virtually impossible to keep up with them to be sure everything is there. Additionally, the copy I was given of my possessions was so faint that half of the items I couldn't even identify while this unloading process continued. My possessions were in this storage unit for a little over nine months. When I finally moved and began noticing everything that was missing, they said that they were no longer responsible for the missing items as my claim period had ended after nine months and that I had used an independent storage facility instead of one of theirs. Do not use these people to move your possessions. I cannot emphasize that strongly enough. read more

Wow! The crew we had; David, Luis, and Jordan rocked. They worked their tail off all day starting at about 9. By 4, they were nearly done with the entire move. We were scheduled for 8 crates, and they finished with 7... The crew even showed us how our furniture came apart to make it easier to move. Something the last company we hired didn't know. We did have one issue with our dining room table in which boxes were placed on the table top without padding and the debris from the basement scratch the finish. Luis immediately took note and will make a not on our inventory sheet. Dan from American Moving also called us to see how things were going and checking on the status. We also informed him and said he would ensure he will get it fixed when we move into the new house. This was our fourth estimate and are VERY happy wit their work. Now we just wait until our house is finished in 3 months or so. The reason those items came with us is cause we were told to take them. We were also told it was "YOUR" people that were going to load and unload us. That was a flat LIE and you know it. The guys that came to my house to unload us were low life you got off the street. They stole family heirlooms along with my wife's jewelry. They should all be aware that, that is not the truth. Your company LIED to us and it cost us over $15,000 to find that out. Imagine being without everything you own for 36 days! That was my experience with American Moving. They told me my household goods were scheduled to arrive by Nov 12, 2020. The shipment did not arrive until Dec 2, 2020! American Moving delivered the shipment of my entire household items 20 days late. American Moving's customer support was not proactive in ensuring my shipment arrived. Upon approaching the delivery date, Nov 12, no attempt was made by American Moving to inform me that the shipment was going to be late. No attempt was made to find a solution with the shipping provider, Bekins. I was informed "I just had to wait for a driver." It wasn't until I held a three-way call between American Moving and the shipping provider, Bekins, that a resolution was found. I, the customer, had to initiate all the problem-solving approaches myself. American Moving's customer support was not proactive in making sure my shipment arrived. When the shipment finally arrived, my great grandmother's antique table and dishes were broken, and 4 boxes were lost. I was so disappointed in the work of this company because I had done my research and was misled by their sales team. I am in disbelief that they would treat a customer like this. I would like to warn other consumers and protect them from doing business with such a careless, unhelpful company in the future. It was horrible. read more

Please choose another moving company. The biggest issue we had was that the movers broke our fridge. My wife witness them drop the fridge down the stairs, and upon arrival to our new house part of the water line was broken and water leaked all over our floor. We submitted a warranty claim immediately and the movers also acknowledge the damage. After waiting 2 months with a broken fridge we finally received a response that they were not going to pay for any repairs. They said we did not fill out the paper work properly, and the damage was our fault?! On top of that, the were are very lazy group of movers, we found them just sitting around in our basement for nearly an hour ($250 an hour). I understand movers need a lunch break, but they charged us for this time. I typically do not write reviews, but this is the worst service we've received in any form. Please chose wisely. read more

They called before the move, day of, and after to make sure everything went smoothly and I was satisfied with the service. Their time estimate was just about right on point. I didn't use their moving services but spent 15 minutes on the phone with someone going through their questionaire about all the details of my move. A waste of time. I chose American because Maurice, the salesperson who came out to give me an estimate, inspired confidence. We set our moving date and four days before it we had to move it. Our incompetent mortgage company had delayed our closing and we weren't even sue when we'd move. We moved or date two days and they were totally flexible with us. We also doesn't know if we'd have to store our stuff and they were flexible with that too. I will be forever grateful to them for that. The team arrived and worked their butts off for 14 hours. They even helped my husband's put some boxes in his car. The only bump was literally a bump they hit (a rock) when they were taking our fridge down the side of the house to the basement. They lost control and the doors got dented. I filed a claim (which needs to happen in 7 days) and then they were slow in responding until I contacted Maurice (salesman) and then it was resolved within 24 hours. I don't ever plan on moving again but if I did, I'd use American again. read more

I've heard a lot of horror stories about shady movers and of course the people with bad experiences are more apt to write reviews. Conversely, when I've had a great experience with a company I believe it's important to acknowledge them. I hired American Moving to move my large items from one apmt to across town in Boulder Labor Day Weekend. The estimator was spot with a 4-5 hour estimate based on my items. I moved the small items myself. Not including travel time the job took 4.5 hours. It was nice that there were no surprise charges at the end, insurance was part of the hourly rate. The 3 guys showed up at 8:30, between the 8-9 arrival window, right on time. They were polite and professional and handled my items with care. I have a large 6 piece master bedroom set and every item arrived in perfect condition. It was all wrapped delicately in the one apmt and reassembled perfectly in my new pad. I also have a baby grand piano that's a pain to move and the three guys did a great job. The guys worked efficiently and didn't waste time. If you have nice things don't waste your time or break your back trying to move the heavy objects yourself or hiring a couple of guys off CL. I believe good service is worth the expense and I was very pleased with American Moving. read more

I recently completed an interstate move from Centennial, CO to Baton Rouge, LA, and hired American Moving & Storage again because they did a great job with our local move in Centennial. Bryan, our estimator for the job, deserves a shoutout. Not only did he provide a thorough and accurate quote, but he went out of his way to answer our last minute questions after hours and made sure we had plenty of time to review the contract. We had several issues with Bekins (the interstate van line that AMS uses) throughout the course of our move, but management from AMS followed up to help us sort through those issues and went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. read more

My experience with this company was a bit mixed. The sales representatives are top notch in that they do a tremendous job... for the company that is... not for you the customer. If you want someone who works for the best interest of your enterprise, recruit one of the sales staff from this company. If you'd like to trust and rely on the assurances you are given during the sales pitch, strongly consider another option. I was sold move-store-move services for a cross country relocation through AMS and Bekins, so there would be an end to end chain of responsibility for my goods. I even took out additional insurance for the move. Well, all of that didn't work out very well at all. Although the initial move in to storage seemed very professional and efficient, in retrospect, there may have been some oversights in the quality of packing. Communication for final delivery was abysmal, including a 5 day window but only 16 hour notification for delivery (and only after I chased it down). I believe in total, I paid almost $10,000 to be tortured by this company. I thought it'd be worth it since quite a lot of my small household consists of high $ items, but there was a tremendous amount of damage to my goods, and American Moving and Storage and Bekins/Wheaton ? local movers (never figured out how these random companies and movers got involved in the "seamless end to end responsibility") are trying to blame each other for the damage. It has now been almost 5 months since my move and still no resolution despite dozens of calls, emails, estimates, photos, and required documents. Yikes! What is it going to take? Bottom line, you can start out with a household full of costly/collectible furnishings, and end up with landfill and firewood. read more
