    Our American Moving experience.  Our belongings strapped to the top of a U-Haul trailer pulled by a U-Haul van.

    I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. My wife and I have relocated 3X in the past five years. Using corporate relocation services, Allied Van Lines and a few weeks ago - Bekins/American Moving. This by far is the worst experience we've ever had. The terms "bait & switch" and "misleading" are the overriding themes. We hired Bekins/American Moving to move our four-bedroom home from Castle Pines, CO to Lakeville, MN on 8/24 - 9/10. The first part of the moving experience was good and met expectations. The team that arrived was professional, hardworking and appeared to take good care of our furnishings. That is where the quality customer service ended. From that point forward we felt we had been set-aside as our credit card had been charged and we were no longer a priority. Specifically: From the point of loading our home on 8/24, we had no proactive communications on the delivery. I would call and leave a message with the move coordinator and wouldn't hear back. I would call the Salesperson and he would call back but it felt like he didn't have complete information. When I asked about the timing of the delivery of our goods less than a week out, I had to call multiple times. This information was important to us as we were trying to juggle personal and professional schedules and wanted to ensure we were ready when Bekins arrived. We were living in a hotel at this point and trying to coordinate when to meet and move into our home. Because we were getting no response, I called the destination agent and they seemed totally confused. They gave us the load date in Colorado as the delivery date which made no sense. I finally got a response from American Moving and was told to expect the furnishings on 9/8. We then received a call to inform us that the furnishings would now be delivered on Sunday, 9/10. We were told the movers would deliver our furnishings between 8:00am and 10:00am on 9/10. They arrived Sunday shortly after all 11:00 in a U-Haul truck and trailer with some of our furnishings strapped to the top of the trailer. This was far from what was sold! As Bekins states, "we take care of our furnishings as if they are our own". Really!!??I The two men who arrived had just driven 1,000 miles in 1 day were tasked to then unload our furnishings. There was no additional crew. There was no supervisor. They didn't do a walk-through of our home. They didn't ask questions. They didn't take steps to PROTECT our new home. When asked about the carpet protection, they responded they didn't have any. We called American Moving to state our dissatisfaction at the lack of care, unpreparedness and request a full crew with the necessary supplies to protect the house. We stated we were willing to wait another day so this could be done correctly. We were told this is the crew that was available and there was nothing else they could do. I personally left to go find some carpet protection while they started unloading. I was unable to find any and then the two movers both left in the truck and returned in about an hour - with the cellophane carpet protection. They did find padding to partially protect the stairwell. By the time the house was partially protected, it was nearing 1:00pm. My wife and I (both in our 60s) helped carry many of the boxes and directed some of the boxes to be put in the garage to save time. In the end, the unloading took from 11:10am to 9:30pm and the movers left before everything was complete. In addition to carrying boxes, my wife and I unboxed and assembled several items that were packed by the movers. Several pieces of furniture were damaged and a brand-new carpet soiled from the mover's shoes. We will process an insurance claim for the furniture. We hired and paid $15,000 for a professional moving company. This is far from what we received. This was, at best an amateur, unorganized, uncaring delivery of our furnishings (repacked in a smaller truck and strapped to the top of a trailer)! If we had known this was the service we would receive from a company "making moving easy since 1891" and that we would have to help with the process, I never would have hired Bekins/American Moving. Even after requesting to speak to the salesperson/owner of American Moving, he hasn't responded to my request to speak to him since these issues began and delegated any interactions to a subordinate.

    So happy with our experience with American Moving. We had several quotes and hands down American Moving was the best priced, most communicative and friendly moving company we dealt with. They provided extra moving boxes, which was very helpful. The movers showed up on time and did an excellent job. Worth every penny! Highly recommend.

They showed up 5 hours late, yelled at me that I gave them a bad quote and refused to do my move which ended up costing me THOUSANDS. And spoiler, another company did the job in the time I was originally quoted by these people and for half the price. As a woman moving alone, these movers made me incredibly uncomfortable in the short time they were in my home. I called and got a quote over the phone. This was not unusual to me as I've only ever gotten phone quotes for moving and have never had issues in the past. I was quoted 2.5-3 hours with 3 movers. I called 5 other companies in the area and received similar quotes, I chose this company due to their availability. I scheduled my move for 4 days before I needed to be out of my place. They were scheduled to arrive between 12-3pm. At 3pm, I was told their morning job was taking much longer than anticipated but they should arrive within the hour. At 4pm I received a text from the team letting me know they were an HOUR AND A HALF away and would be stopping for food on their way. I contacted the "manager" and was assured they would be able to complete my move that day. The team showed up at 5:30pm, 5.5 hours late and I have never had movers be more disrespectful and demeaning toward me. My home was clean, fully boxed, and ready to be loaded. For $210/hour I was not about to waste time. They walked through my home to assess everything and Tyler, who is supposedly the best they have, was rude and disrespectful every step of the way. He yelled at me that there was no way they could do the move in the time quoted. Given that their morning job took 4-5 hours longer than anticipated, whoever is quoting jobs clearly doesn't know what they're doing. I was alone and the way their team treated me in my home made me incredibly uncomfortable, they yelled at me that I wasted their time, they drove to Fort Collins from Denver and their cars were in a storage unit in Denver that closed at 9pm. Even if they completed the job in the minimum quoted time, they still wouldn't have made it back to Denver in time to collect their vehicles so I don't see how that was my problem but he sure made it my problem. Tyler told me the move would take a team of 4 movers at least 7 hours to complete. To be clear, this was a two bedroom townhome, not a 5 bedroom house. As I was about to throw them out of my home for being so demeaning and disrespectful, they offered to step out and call their manager. At 6pm I received a call from the manager who told me the team claimed there were 150 boxes in my home and they would not be doing the move. When I argued that was absolutely not the case (i counted and there were 56 boxes, 6 large, 15 medium, 25 small, and 10 plastic tubs) I was told he didn't know who to believe...um excuse me?!? He offered to reschedule for another day at more than DOUBLE my initial quote. After the experience his "best guy" had to offer, there was no way I would ever agree to pay them even my original quote let alone $1800?! I told him this was unacceptable and explained the financial impact, all I got was "sorry, we wish you the best of luck with your move" after wasting 6 hours of my time and costing me thousands. This was a huge waste of my time and costly. I deliberately scheduled the move on my day off with several days after to do final small things and clean before handing over keys. A new tenant was scheduled to move in shortly after. Because of this company's laziness and incompetence, I had to pay an additional month rent and the next tenant's move was also impacted. I am truly beside myself at what a horrible experience this was. Now for the kicker - I hired another company to do my move the following week. I hired two movers and anticipated an 8 hour move due to what I was told by this team. I was genuinely afraid to do the walkthrough given what happened with moving brothers. I explained what happened and the new quote I was given and the new movers laughed. They said this team took too long at their job in the morning, ate and sat in the truck for an hour, and when they showed up they were tired or lazy and simply didn't want to do the job. They said the 7 hour quote was an FU to me since they drove up to Fort Collins. It took the new movers FOUR HOURS TOTAL. And cost me less than moving brothers original quote including a 40% tip. NEVER give this company your business. They will leave you up a creek without a paddle without so much as an apology. I'm grateful they requested cash payment and didn't require a deposit as they will never get a penny from me. I will tell anyone and everyone I know to avoid this company!
