We were on a strict time limit given vistors coming from another country and Jimmy made sure that all our needs were met before the due date. He showed up regularly to walk the space and make sure we were happy with what was happening. We were kept informed of what was going to be done and when it was going to happen. If we needed to cancel construction for the day due to work schedules, he was able to make accommodations for our needs. We had both of our bathrooms (guest and primary) done at the same time to save money and save time. They came out exactly as we wanted them to and are so happy when guests come over to see the work. Our guests from out of the country enjoyed working and beautiful bathrooms for the three weeks they stayed with us, and everything is still looking as fresh as day one. I really hate to do this but I had to come back and update my review…read more Where to start. My first project with Jemner was the repair project where my AC didn't have a water level sensor shutoff and the condensation overflowed and poured through my ceiling. They made it look like it never happened. A couple years later I decided to hire him for a much bigger project of painting cabinets, walls, new counter tops, backsplash, baseboards etc. At first, the cabinets looked INCREDIBLE. Everything we hoped for. But after living in it for a few months the paint began to split and flake away. (See photos). You can tell a lot of the cabinets weren't sanded or filled correctly. The satin paint finish (Jemner's recommendation - said it was what he recommended to everyone) either wasn't capable of the abuse kitchen cabinets take or it wasn't prepped/applied correctly. Either way, it wasn't a good result. Every single cabinet door that they reinstalled after being painted had the hinges screwed back in using a power drill with no max torque setting which allowed the screws to rip away at the wood. This resulted in every single... and I mean EVERY SINGLE cabinet hinge coming loose after a few weeks because the screws had nothing to grip on. Open the door and it immediately drops 1/4 inch. If you didn't notice that happen then when you shut the door, instead of it going back into place, it would bump into the cabinet door above or below it immediately chipping the paint despite having soft closing hinges (that's how bad the paint job was). When they reattached the drawer fronts they didn't screw the fronts back into the drawer box the way they should be (inside of the box straight into the drawer front). Instead they just held the fronts up against the drawer box and sent new randomly sized screws into the inner corners of the box and into the front which has left nearly every front slightly unlevel. I only noticed this today (hence why I finally decided to update this review) when one started really going uneven and I went to investigate. What I found was the inner corner screws and noticed they sent a screw through the paint of the drawer front when reattaching the fronts and then crudely painted over it (it's so obvious now that I am aware of it). Terrible work. In addition to the shoddy paint job and reinstallation of the cabinet doors - he charged me for the paint ($800) in addition to the price he quoted me despite saying the total included all paint and materials. Moving onto my door frames. What a nightmare. They had to come back multiple times to fix their work. They missed spots with the paint, they got paint on the wall (different color) all around the place. They PAINTED OVER MY DOOR HINGES and their justification was "you said you were going to replace them eventually". Oh, so I guess in the meantime I want them crudely painted over with white paint?? Also, since they had to sand and paint the inner door frames to match the new paint, almost none of my doors will shut correctly now. I tiled my guest bathroom myself but didn't want to deal with the baseboards so I hired them for that too. That was probably the best result of everything in this big project despite it being pretty awful. every corner where the baseboards meet for a 90 degree turn had gaps between them and were unbelievably crudely caulked to fill the 1/4 inch gaps. I can't tell you how much paint I've had to clean off of my hardwood floors, windows, and furniture. Thank god I went with matte wall paint because it has been fairly easy to remove with warm water. But let me just say, they did not care about where paint went. My $800 soundbar with a fabric front and the back of my brand new 70" TV in my living room where they painted the walls had paint all over them and couldn't get it removed. I have tried to get them to remedy it but every time they come to fix one thing they make something else worse. Jemner and his son are very nice but their team is lazy and unskilled. Now the worst part. Disgusting even. One of the guys (maybe more than one) used the guest bathroom when nature called. I didn't think it was right to deny them that access when Jemner asked me if they could during the project. Well, after they left for the day mid project, I went to use the bathroom and noticed something in the trash bin. There was a huge and THICK smudge/smear of poop on top of the bin with toilet paper hanging from it. They were throwing their poopy toilet paper into my out in the open trash bin instead of flushing it. Wretched! The worst part is it was left in such a way that there is NO WAY they didn't realize it was fully exposed like that. Epilogue: they ate all of our fancy/expensive handmade chocolate my wife and I brought back from our first ever trip to Europe. Jemner offered to buy us more but it was from a small hole in the wall chocolate shop in Italy so it was irreplaceable. Point being, his team is rude and inconsiderate.

Joe did an excellent job -- A+ -- on my shower replacement and I am very pleased with the result…read more Joe came to estimate the work, providing good suggestions (enlarging size, adding bench, angled glass enclosure). He gave me a reasonable price with no pressure. The job involved removing the old tub/shower, replacing the plumbing, building a bench, wet-mopping, adding cement-backing, installing porcelain tile, replacing the flooring, adding drywall (including re-stucco-ing, and repainting). Each team - demolition, plumber, framing, wet-mop, tiler, dry-wall/painter - was professional, competent, hardworking, and clean-minded. Keep in mind that this is not a one day job --- mine took 1 1/2 weeks. Joe was always responsive to my calls and kept the job moving. Also, his quote does not include the glass enclosure. Joe sent me a good glass enclosure contractor and he added an additional week - 1 day for estimate, 5 days to cut/temper the glass, and one day to install. I enjoyed watching them work. To get the job done right, there is a lot of expertise involved. My wife was so grateful that she always provided snacks and water for the crews.

My experience with Joe, the manager who handled most of the communication, was terrible. In my opinion, he did not have enough hands-on construction knowledge to properly manage a remodel. He seemed to rely almost entirely on what his employees or subcontractors told him, even when they were wrong. When I pointed out mistakes, he often pushed back, blamed me, or tried to make me pay to fix issues caused by his own crew. A few examples: -We specified grout colors, and they used them on the wrong tiles and areas. -The wrong sinks were ordered. -The wrong faucets were ordered. -The wrong tiles were ordered. -The wrong counter top was delivered. -Kitchen cabinets were faulty and installed improperly. -They promised one type of flooring, then delivered something completely different, including a different color, and installed it incorrectly. -They tried to conceal faulty piping inside my walls. Had I not walked in unexpectedly, I would never have seen it. -They poured a foundation for a small extension without making it deep enough or installing a moisture barrier. We now have tiles showing signs of moisture damage. -They did not repaint several rooms. They cleaned the walls and then claimed the rooms had been painted. -The electrician made serious mistakes, including issues that almost caused a fire in my house. The overall pattern was simple: -They made mistakes. -I had to catch the mistakes. -Joe often tried to shift blame. -They tried to charge me to fix problems they caused. I also felt like Joe tried to take advantage of me financially. He handwrote the quote and invoice, and I trusted that the items we discussed would be handled as agreed. Later, he tried to back away from what had been discussed and claimed certain items were not included. Only after I involved the owner did Joe back down and admit he had made a mistake. There were also major management and communication problems: -Joe is not the contractor who owns the business. -From what I saw, there was no professional contractor consistently supervising the crew. -Joe would come by occasionally, look around, speak with the crew, and leave. -The crew often seemed confused about what needed to be done. -Communication between Joe and the crew appeared poor, which caused constant errors. The crew was also a revolving door. Different people came on different days. One person would start the flooring, and others would come later to finish it. The same thing happened with tile, plumbing, electrical work, and other parts of the project. Each time someone new showed up, they seemed to have little or no idea what had been agreed to. Joe also asked personal questions that made us uncomfortable, including: -Where are you from? -What do you do? -Can I see your cars? -"Wow, you went to that restaurant? It's very expensive." -"This was an expensive house. You must be very rich." That felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. Overall, this was a nightmare experience. Never again. The only reason I am giving two stars is that they finished quickly, and by the end, I was simply relieved to have them gone.
