We are not always sophisticated people, but we are excellent at pretending. We started at the bar, which looks the part completely. Elegant, well stocked, the kind of bar that makes you feel like you should be wearing something nicer than what you showed up in. I ordered an old fashioned, at which point the gentleman behind the bar admitted, with full transparency, that he was not actually the bartender and would need to Google how to make it. I genuinely appreciated the honesty. In a galaxy full of people who would have just guessed and handed me something terrible, this man chose truth. I thanked him, switched my order to whiskey and coke, and we moved on as allies. From there we headed to concessions and ordered the Take it to the Greek wrap, the La Bamba pizza, and fries with little bits of steak on top. The food was good. Not life altering, not the kind of meal that makes you grab someone's arm and say nothing, just nodding, but genuinely solid movie theater food that arrived at our seats without us having to do anything except recline and wait. The seats reclined. There were actual tables. This is civilized. We watched Disclosure Day, which if you have any interest in extraterrestrial or UFO subject matter is absolutely worth your time. Sitting in a reclining leather seat watching a film about potential contact with beings from other worlds felt appropriately cinematic, even if the leather on most seats has seen better days. Chipping and worn in spots, which is the one visible crack in an otherwise well maintained experience. The theater itself was clean, the concept is fantastic, and the overall vibe delivered exactly what a day date calls for. Four stars. The bar needs an actual bartender on deck and the seats could use some attention, but Living Room Theater is still one of the better ways to spend an afternoon in Indianapolis.

We went on a Sunday and found street parking pretty easily, but then realized the theater validates parking for up to 3 hours. Such a nice perk -- wish I knew before circling around lol. We bought our tickets online ahead of time, and when we got there I ordered the garlic cheesy bread and a drink at the counter. Total was around $15. The seats were really comfy and spacious, which made the whole experience feel worth it. The food came out pretty fast. The garlic cheesy bread was probably like a 5/10 for me... not terrible, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Overall though, really nice theater and I'd definitely come back for another movie night.

There are cup holders at each seat. Our view was unobstructed and noise level was low even though there were a lot of kids in the theater. There is a cute little birthday room set up with deals for the kids to get snacks and see a movie. The restrooms were clean (although a number of stalls were non operational. There was plenty of free parking close to the door. The lobby is filled with electronic games to keep the kids occupied before the show. These features include Cereal Cinema, a monthly special screening held at Newfields on a Saturday morning at 10am that offers a cereal buffet (coffee is available for purchase for the tired adults). Cereal Cinema targets the family market. For example, this year's films include Night at the Museum (April), Madagascar (May), The Neverending Story (July), Homeward Bound (August) and the list goes on. This is always a reasonably priced good time for the entire family. While accessibility at Newfields isn't quite 100%, it's surprisingly good and wheelchair users like myself can easily attend Cereal Cinema. The cereals are usually a variety - including gluten-free options. Indy Film Fest is still an entirely volunteer-run film festival. It's amazing what they accomplish, and it's a guaranteed good time for the entire family. I definitely recommend Cereal Cinema for families. It's one of Indy's true gems and a best kept secret. Danville's Royal Theater is exactly what you'd expect as a historic, single-screen theater nestled…read moreintimately directly on Danville, Indiana's town square. With ticket prices well under usual chain prices, including first-run such as the current Lilo & Stitch, Royal Theater offers moviegoers a classic movie experience with the benefit of also being able to book both classics, first-run, and a family film series. Royal Theater was first built in 1914 and was Danville's first movie theater. It was bought in 1926 by Thomas Barrett. Barrett razed two buildings to the side of the theater and expanded the "photoplay parlor" in a Tudor Revival style. Barrett himself was from England and this definitely made sense. It re-opened in 1927 with a 600-seat capacity. It also had a pipe organ, lighted marquee, and stage. The Royal today maintains its 1920s appearance. It's a theater that really leans into its nostalgia and I personally smile every time I pass by it. The Royal hosts a free family film festival during the Summer. It's on Wednesdays at 10am. This year's schedule includes: June 4th ~ Kung Fu Panda 4 June 11th ~ IF June 18th The Garfield Movie June 25th ~ Despicable Me 4 July 2nd ~ Harold and The Purple Crayon July 9th ~ The Wild Robot July 16th ~ Hitpig July 23rd ~ Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Is accessibility perfect here? Of course not. This is a historic movie theater, though I've found it better than expected. While some buildings on the town square are definitely not accessible (my guess is 1/2 the stores on Danville's town square have a step into them), several key ones are including the Royal. This is still a single-screen theater. Tickets and concessions are affordable. The theater can be rented (my understanding is the owner is pretty selective, though I've not experienced this side of the theater). While Avon has chain moviegoing experiences, and they're fine, for true cineastes this is practically a must-attend theater. They typically do an evening screening (definitely not an all-day theater). They do occasionally host concerts and events, as well. I should also note that parking around the square is free with a two-hour time limit (five hours for disabled placard parking spots). If you go to the Royal, dial down the expectations and have fun. These are friendly people with a good (not great) screen and a casual approach that is perfect for this small town indie theater. The theater itself is attractive, well-kept, and prices are great. This may not be quite a destination spot, however, Danville is for sure worth a daytrip. The Mayberry Cafe (think Andy Griffith Show-themed) is within walking distance, Danville Dips is around the corner, the Authors' Patch Bookstore is also around the corner, and this small town's charm is abundant.
