My mom was raving about this bakery and I finally was with her to try it out. It's not only the…read moregoodies but also the people! The brother- sister duo running the shop are some of the sweetest people I have ever met! I noticed one comment mentioning they were copying another shop but this is a bakery with many types and variations of desserts and is not a copy of anyone's shop. You can get inspiration from many places or just try to meet the needs of different clientele by varying your product, and I believe that's where the mini cupcakes came into play in this scenario. In any event, my mom loves the vanilla cake with the chocolate icing. My mom would want to ride up to the shop after her visit to MSK and as a treat to herself wanted a slice of cake, but not any cake. A slice from Buttercup Bake Shop. And it had to be the vanilla with chocolate frosting. This was soo soothing to her. So when I went and saw their huge selection I was amused at all they had to offer. I can't wait to try their hummingbird cake. I tried their brookie and warmed with some ice cream (specifically cherry vanilla) it was soo good. This is a grab and go shop so there aren't any chairs available but that doesn't take away from the experience at all. It's narrow but packed with options to choose from and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Sometime you just crave a cupcake!…read more Walking by this grab and go spot I peered in and saw they had Devil Dog cupcakes, a flavor blast from my childhood. Had to get one. it was ok and satisfied enough. Be aware that nothing is freshly baked at this tiny location and it is a bit pricey for what it is.

It's been over 17 years since my first Yelp review of Magnolia Bakery. Unlike other foodie lemmings…read moreat the time, I wasn't caught up in the cupcake craze started by this iconic shop. Remember when this was one of Carrie's hangouts on "Sex & the City"? That exposure triggered nearly 70 locations worldwide. Jamie W and I were back in the neighborhood after a tipple at Julius'. I have to admit I never understood the appeal of the cupcakes. However, I had never tried their banana pudding before, and I liked how you can grab a readymade carton from the fridge and pay for it right away. Meanwhile, a lot of self-absorbed women were crowded around the cupcake display waiting for their little boxes. We took our stash across the street to the mostly deserted playground.. Ah, so the pudding was the draw all along. We grabbed two, the $6.25 Chocolate Peanut Butter (Photo 5) and the $5.75 Classic Banana (Photo 4). They both have lighter-than-expected whipped cream and sliced bananas. Of course the classic layers Nilla vanilla wafers, while the other applies Oreo cookie crumbles and chocolate chunks. No complaints about either, though the classic still wins. FOOD - 4 stars..indulgent treats, aren't they? AMBIANCE - 3 stars...still packed after all these years, purely takeout SERVICE - 4 stars...for the pudding yes but for cupcakes, it's a sea of estrogen TOTAL - 4 stars...forget the cupcakes! The pudding was super soft and fluffy with a strong banana flavor. It was pretty sweet for me, and I would've preferred it a little less sweet, but it was still delicious. I loved how it was creamy, light, and cohesive. It was a small shop for grab and go, and it was early in the day, so there was no wait. Staff were friendly. I would love to have another banana pudding whenever I'm back in the area!
