Finding good Asian food in California has been perplexing. Many of the restaurants aren't run by the people from whichever country is represented, and fusion restaurants seem popular. I've seen quite a few Yelp visits and reviews for Amazing Kitchen. However, I was still skeptical but in Tracy, I find it difficult to find good food. I was greeted quickly upon entering. The dining room was neat but sparse. There was a family-style table with a Lazy Susan, which made me feel as though Chinese might be eating here. As I was being seated, I was asked for a drink order and I chose hot tea. They also had Pepsi products in a fridge, along with Thai tea. Looking at the menu, I didn't see a Chinese language section where traditional dishes would be listed. I was informed that they didn't have such a menu. I ordered the fish filets with ginger and garlic. The server asked if I wanted a small bowl of rice, which was appreciated. At some restaurants, they give me a bigger bowl but charge me nearly as much as a 5 lb. bag of rice. $14.12 wasn't a bad total. Since this is not the typical American-ized dish, I expected it to be made fresh and take a while. It arrived rather quickly, with broccoli. The taste was good and worthwhile. We ordered Sichuan Beef. We got "Sichuan Beef". I had thought it was definitely the wrong order--They definitely gave us something else--No way is this Sichuan Beef. Where's the Sichuan? I have to say, I loved our first visit here (before the closure). Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm tea which I absolutely loved. We ordered egg drop soup, house fried rice, honey walnut prawns, Hong Kong pan fried noodles and an order of egg rolls. I can remember the feeling I had with my first taste of the egg drop soup. It was like a nice, long, warm hug in a bowl. I just really appreciated the care that went into something so simple. Next came the egg rolls; fried perfectly and filling was yummy. The mains came next and were portioned generously. The honey walnut prawns were great! Not overly sweet and with just the right amount of walnuts to shrimp ratio. For all of us though, the star was the Hing Kong pan fried noodles. The bok choy and mushrooms were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of bite to them. The proteins were also cooked quite lovely and the sauce was the perfect compliment to this dish. The only miss for me was the fried rice. It was kinda mushy, almost overcooked in a large batch. We thought maybe it was just a miss, but our next trip, we encountered the same. That could use a little tweak. Easily 4 stars. Great service. Food came out fast. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. We got happy family, honey walnut prawns, and green bean beef. All were good. Portions were large and the quality of the meal was good across the board. We got a free app of fried won tons, but way too many for us to eat. Nice gesture though. There was a TV with the baseaball game on, so that was nice. They probably have basketball on when there is a game and that can be clutch! The restaurant isn't fancy, but that was fine. Some people have mentioned a long wait time for food but that was not our experience. Our garlic chicken and sweet and sour chicken came out very quickly. I will echo what others said about the breading on the sweet and sour chicken- some pieces literally had no chicken! I'd oder the garlic chicken over the sweet and sour next time. I've been here twice so far, and I really like the food and service here. Most recently, my extended family, all 16 of us, dined here to celebrate the moms. My mom made a reservation a week prior. My mom, grandma, and I arrived 30 minutes before our reservation time to order all the food ahead of time as the staff informed my mom they get busy around the lunch hour. The staff served our food in a timely manner as relatives arrived. And we ordered a lot! Two orders of at least 6 dishes. And the ones I ate were so good! (I don't eat beef, so I had to skip those dishes). Highlights include the sizzling rice soup, lemon chicken, and honey walnut prawns. I'm not a soup person, but I love the sizzling rice soup. The broth has a lot of flavor, and it's fun to hear the rice sizzle. The lemon chicken isn't greasy, and the sauce is light. The honey walnut prawns are huge, and not too mayonnaise-y. Because their food isn't too greasy/oily, I was able to eat more than I should without feeling too full. There is a Taglog word for it, and I can't translate it directly to English.. but basically you won't feel sick when you're full. Service was outstanding! Helen and her staff were very accommodating and welcoming, making sure we were taken care of. My mom was going to order 6 bowls of rice, but Helen advised her to only order 4. And she was right. Four of their bowls of rice was a lot, and there was leftovers good for a family of 4. It's a mom-and-pop shop. Though the space can accommodate a party of 16, there were only 2 tables of 4, 2 tables of 2, and one round table for 6 left. Because we arrived and started our orders early, we were able to finish before the lunch rush got going. There were about 2 families coming in to dine as we were leaving. This is for their Berkeley FoodieLand Night Market stall: Got the Crispy Beef and it was sooooo delicious! For only $12 bucks, got so much food! An amazing deal at food fairs, that usually have jacked up prices for little food. This meal was a great choice to share between two. We're not from the Tracy area and needed take out for a get together. This place had decent reviews on Yelp. We ordered by phone, the person answering phone was polite and read back the order clearly. We were surprised that we were offered a free appetizer- we opted for crab Rangoon (there are a few options), you will be given free appetizer if you buy a certain amount of food (so make sure you ask). Our order was supposed to take about 25 min: house chow menu, house fried rice, fried wonton, and orange chicken. The place is quite small, located in a shopping center. The day we came they were hosting a party. There were 2 very long tables about 20 people to each table and 1 round table that was empty. So to Yelps question - Good for a large party? I would say yes, but make reservation. The decor was basic- white walls and sparse Chinese decor. Our order took a little longer than the 25 min, but this place was BUSY! Phone ringing constantly. The hostess and servers were polite apologetic. Food was pretty typical, tasty and not too greasy. We would definitely come here again. The beef was good, but it was overfilled with onions. The friend rice was amazing! They have a few different options for fried rice but he ordered the standard one. Sweet and Sour Chicken: It's a NO. You don't really taste the chicken, it has a thick layer of breading. I was not impressed with this plate at all. Honey Walnut Prawns: It's a YES. I ordered it with chowmein because i knew we were going to share all our plates. But the chowmein did not disappoint at all it was great. All of the lunch specials come with an egg roll, wanton, and a soup. THE SOUP THEY SERVE YOU BEFORE YOUR MEAL MIGHT OF BEEN THE BEST THING I ATE HERE. We decided to give this place a try since my family and I were craving Chinese food. The restaurant is in a shopping center so there was plenty of parking. The menu is pretty good and has your typical options. We ordered six items and the cost was less than $50.00 and we got a free item. This was able to service 5 people with leftovers incredible I know! The service was fast and got our food in about 15-20 minutes. We ordered orange chicken which was really good. The chicken was crunchy and was trenched in there sauce. The house chow mein was delicious it had chicken, BBQ pork and full size shrimp! The szechuan chicken fell short and was not good so avoid this dish it had an odd taste. The beef broccoli was ok the broccoli was a bit over cooked and the beef was a bit tough. The sweet and sour prawns we're pretty good and the shrimp were cooked well but it was over drenched in the sauce. The free item was there fried wonton wrappers which where really good as a snack/appetizer. Overall my family enjoyed the food and we all agreed that this place had a great selection. When I am in town visiting my family I will definitely consider this place again. read more
