Cuisine: 7 Service: 8 Decor: 6 Value: 8 Overall: 8 The anticipation for this Burmese restaurant was very high because I kept missing them and coming to this NJ area on days they are closed. So finally when I got to try their food, I was glad it wasn't a letdown. Burmese Tea Leaf Salad (8/10) - Always been a fan of this dish ever since I first tasted it. Years later, I loved the versions I had in Myanmar too. Their version is less acidic and pungent, but still delicious. Mohinga (7/10) - This national dish of Burma is very interesting because the flavors are unusual. I liked this item but it may have gotten a bit too mushy during the drive home. Seejet Noodles (7/10) - Good flavor, but I'm not sure if duck enhances this dish. Noodles were great. Pork Curry (8/10) - Maybe my favorite dish. The meat was tender but with a bite, while the curry had a lot of depth. Coconut Chicken Soup (6.5/10) - Didn't love this dish, but it wasn't bad. The sweetness may not have been my cup of tea. Shrimp Curry (7.5/10) - another good curry dish, but this one felt a bit oily. The shrimps were cooked well. I would note that their Balachaung is worth buying. You can add it to anything and it will enhance the flavor. The owners were so nice that they included a complimentary box of it because I bought so much food. Glad I finally had a chance to eat their food. I will stop by whenever in town.
This place is amazing - family dinner and super intimate. the owner was extremely kind and ensured my first time trying burmese food would be great. he gave us some free spicy chips that had a nice little kick and plenty of flavor. i took them home and love munching on them. when ordering we asked what his favorites were as well as how each dish was prepared. he happily recommended us plenty of options and since we liked spicy he supplied us with some fantastic spicy side sauce. it was reminiscent of Sriracha to me but tasted better, a tad bitter sweeter in my opinion. we ended up getting the tea leaf salad which was amazing. it isn't a traditional fresh salad necessarily and had a lot more nuts but the flavors paired great together. we got the bait noodles which were stir fryed with a sweet sausage, an egg, and seafood. these noodles were fantastic - extremely flavorful and all the toppings were cooked to perfection. it was a pretty large portion so i had leftovers. the noddles had a great stir fryed flavor to them and the bean sprouts added a perfect crunch. this paired with the spicy sauce was a match made in heaven. i also paired all thai with their milk tea, he warned me that it was strong but i prefer my tea super strong. it was reminiscent to a hong kong milk tea but less sweet, overall super happy i got the tea and loved it. lastly they gave us a coconut jelly for dessert, the texture wasn't jello like but instead snappy which i really enjoyed. flavor wise tasted just like coconut milk and was a great ending. overall the service food and ambiance of this family run restaurant was great. i will 100% be returning to try out more of the menu!
When I see a restaurant with only 5 star reviews, it often makes me raise an eyebrow. It's either all hype or genuinely an amazing restaurant. After trying Amayar Kitchen, I can safely say this family run establishment deserves every single 5 star review it has. This was actually my first time having Burmese cuisine, and I was super excited as I love south East Asian flavors, so I knew this was gonna hit. But omg, these Bait stir fried noodles were SO GOOD! Think pad thai noodles, less sweet and more of a savory chow mein vibe, but unique in its own way. All the toppings mixed into the noodles were super fresh and high quality. Shrimp was plump and bouncy, the sausage had a wonderful sweet flavor that complemented the savory noodles, and the egg was scrambled PERFECTLY. Still thinking about the incredibly umami wok fried flavor and this massive portion, definitely great to share or make 2 meals out of! Alongside the noodles, tried the tea leaf salad and a hot tea with cream. The hot tea reminded me a lot of HK style milk tea, with a strong black tea flavor and not as sweet, which honestly I prefer! The thing that makes this restaurant stand out is certainly the service. The owner, Sato, personally introduced himself and explained the menu thoroughly. It honestly felt more like walking into an old friends home for dinner than a restaraunt , in the best way. He really makes it a point to connect with everyone who tries his food, even giving us a bag of his homemade chips to thank us for coming in! Overall, the food quality was superb, extremely reasonably priced for the portion size, and paired with the amazingly personal service made this an unforgettable dinner experience. I will note the dining room is quite small and informal, but it was perfect for a weeknight date! Genuinely cannot wait to come back the next time I am in this area!! Would highly recommend!
Great Burmese food. Every dish ordered was good. Tried the mohinga, the nanjee noodle salad and the tea leaf salad. I have never had Burmese food before and I was impressed by how good it was and what I have been missing out on. Highly recommended!!
I've never had Burmese food before, but when someone described the cuisine as a "marriage of Indian, Thai, and Chinese flavors", I knew I had to give this amalgamation of my favorite foods a try. Enter Amayar Kitchen. As far as I can tell, this is the only place you can get Burmese food outside of the city, and it's authentic to boot. In fact, when we informed our server we were first timers to Burmese cuisine, she walked us through some recommendations with comments like, "This one is my dad's specialty," or "My grandmother simmers this stew for hours." We were endeared to the fact that the menu featured family recipes and quickly discovered Amayar is a family-run affair, with different members of the family chipping in different parts of the restaurant. That kind of love seeps into everything here. The space is homey and somehow feels more like a family's dining room than a restaurant. When the owner/dad found out we were newcomers, he asked us if we were okay with spice (which we were), and kindly offered us a complimentary bag of their Sato chips. It's his own brand of house-made kettle-fried chips, topped with a spice blend that left a pleasant tingle of heat in the mouth. We tried a few dishes and enjoyed everything heartily. At our server's recommendation, we tried the mohinga, or noodles served in a slow-cooked, catfish-based stew. Our curry was filled with giant chunks of tender meat and potatoes, and my only regret was that I didn't elect to pony up the extra dollar or two for coconut rice, which I'm sure would have been a fantastic complement. The surprising star of our meal was the palata appetizer - fried flatbread topped with the most fragrant beef mixture. We ended up dunking that flatbread in the liquid depths of all our entrees, with our complimentary Sato chips as a crunchy topping to every other bite. By the end of our meal, we were not only well fed but felt like we'd gained a few extra friends in the Amayar family. So suffice it to say, service is simply excellent. Come hungry and expect to be treated like family.
There are truly no words that can fully capture how special this place is--but I will try. This Burmese restaurant is, without exaggeration, addictive. Every single dish is crafted with so much care, flavor, and passion that it becomes impossible not to come back again and again. The taste is something I honestly cannot even begin to describe--you just have to experience it. Sato, the owner, is one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met. He goes above and beyond for every single customer, and it shows in everything he does. You can feel his passion for cooking in every bite. He is always smiling, always welcoming, and truly puts his heart into his food. The dish in the photo is called "Aja's Special," and it says everything you need to know. My husband couldn't even wait for me to take the picture--his fork was already going in for a taste. That's how irresistible it is. This is not just a restaurant--it's an experience. A warm, welcoming place where incredible food meets an incredible person behind it. Just a warning: you will get addicted. Without a doubt, this is one of the best restaurants in New Jersey.
First time trying Burmese food ! Everything was amazing ! Friendly staff & service , the place is decorated with burmese artwork. We had the potato samosa, shan noodle and the chicken & potato curry. We will back to try other food ! Thank you :)
I would like to try a bunch of different items from the menu so on my second visit I went for something different. This time I got an order of potato samosa and the coconut chicken noodle soup. I thought I'd be getting one big Samosa however it was a handful of mini phyllo dough potato bites with a spicy dipping sauce which were really good however they got a bit soggy because of the packaging. The coconut soup from the noodles was outrageously good. In fact it was so good that I had a bit leftover and saved it to use in another dish because I couldn't bear to throw it away. It was a plentiful portion with all the different flavors and textures you would hope for. Can't wait to keep making my way through the menu and finding the next amazing dish. Aside from the food, the staff is incredibly kind.
This was my first time trying Burmese food and I was really interested in trying something new. We walked inside the restaurant and were seated instantly. The service was very helpful and recommended many popular dishes for us to try. We took our server's advice and ordered the coconut chicken soup, the beef curry, and the palata with chicken and potato. I was very excited to try the palata, which came out first, as I LOVE Malaysian food and this reminded me of a Malasian curry dosa. The palata was good, but I thought the bread was very greasy, and the curry was less thick and flavorful than the Malasian curry I typically love. Next came the beef curry, which was very delicious. The curry had a unique spice blend and was incredibly flavorful. The beef was cooked perfectly and was fall-apart tender. The coconut chicken soup may have been my least favorite item. I think this is because I was comparing it to Malaysian laksa in my head, which i find to be much more flavorful and full of veggies. I found myself looking for sauces or a lime to squeeze into the soup to give it a bit more of a kick. I also wasn't a huge fan of the cracker inside the soup, as it wasn't as crispy as I expected it to be. Overall the food was very fresh and very good, but I think I expected a little more of a punch in the flavor/spice department.
Burmese food has been in my bookmarks for quite some time now and I finally got to get a taste! I called my order in for pick-up and was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Lunch Special ($13): Bait Noodles dish and fried tofu appetizer. I also added in the Burmese Iced Milk Tea ($4). Lunch specials are available Tuesday-Friday from 11am-3pm. The restaurant is fairly small with only 4-5 tables for dine-in and it's easy to miss when you're driving by. It shares a parking lot with other businesses. When I walked in, I was greeted by Sato, the owner, and his kind employees. He was so sweet and even gave me a bag of complimentary Sato chips (original Ruffle chips with chili flakes and other spices). I really, really wanted to give them 5 stars, but the food just didn't hit home. -Bait Noodles (fried flat noodles with assorted seafood and sausage): The noodles were oily and didn't have much flavor unless I added a ton of chili sauce, which they only gave me a small amount of. The seafood (shrimp and calamari) was fresh, though. My favorite part was the sweet sausage. -Fried Tofu: I expected it to be a lot crispier. It tasted okay. I wouldn't order this again. -Burmese Iced Tea with Milk: I would have enjoyed this more if it was sweeter. It tastes like a classic black milk tea, but with a much stronger tea taste. Would I give them a second shot? Yes... I need to explore more dishes. The menu isn't too extensive and focuses mainly on noodles and curries (both of which I'm a fan of), so there MUST be something I'll love...Most entrees are $14-$16, which is a steal.
Let me just say, I will ABSOLUTELY NOT be the person who puts a blemish on Amayar Kitchen's 5 star rating because I have nothing but praise for this gem of a Burmese restaurant. I first heard about Amayar when Yelp came out with some variation of their top restaurants list a few years back and Amayar was somewhere close or at the top of that list. From my experience, they might as well have been the top dog there. I won't beat around the bush with my thoughts because everything about our experience was absolutely FANTASTIC and it checked every box in the book when it came to the expectations we had. Even though we had never tried Burmese food, the whole restaurant and the food just felt and tasted authenticate because of the uniqueness of it all. We dropped in for lunch on a scorcher of a Friday afternoon around 12:15pm and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves, especially midway through when they left. The menu was relatively simple - Appetizers, Noodles, Curries, Side Dishes, Drinks, Desserts and Lunch Specials, which was only served on Tuesday-Friday 11am-3pm. Since we had ZERO experience eating Burmese food, we did our homework ahead of time on Yelp and pretty much ordered what we thought were some of the more popular items based on previous reviews: BURMESE TEA LEAF SALAD (aka Lahpet Thoke) - I never really get excited about a salad appetizer (I mean who does?), but my goodness, this small dish was one reallllly great way to start our meal here. This combination of traditional Burmese pickled tea leaves with fried garlic, beans, sesame seeds, cabbage and tomatoes was extraordinary. To the common Burmese person, this might have been just your everyday salad, but this here is a MUST ORDER. I can't really describe the taste of the beautiful simplicity of this salad - you just have to try it for yourself. BAIT NOODLES (FRIED FLAT NOODLES WITH ASSORTED SEAFOOD AND SAUSAGE) AND POTATO SAMOSA LUNCH SPECIAL - Excellent noodles. If I had to relate it to a dish I've had before, it sort of reminded me of Pad Thai...BUT BETTER! There was some squid, shrimp, Chinese sausage and egg mixed in and, once again, so delicious. COCONUT CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP AND SPRING ROLLS LUNCH SPECIAL - Some of the best creamy coconut curry I've ever had. For full transparency, I actually did not mean to order this dish, but due to a miscommunication I lucked into enjoying this ridiculously flavorful curry chicken noodle soup. First of all, there was a lot of noodles in the order so you'll be plenty full before you begin to slurp down all of the curry (which I did). There was also some cilantro, onions mixed in to add to the flavor, but, seriously, did it really need it? Yes, I had this on a 95 degree day, but 'm sure it'd be extremely refreshing in the heart of the winter. BURMESE ICED TEA WITH MILK FALUDA - I'll comment on both of these simultaneously because they were probably the only 2 downers of the day and we should have known it wasn't in our wheelhouse of things we like. Unfortunately, both were a bit too sweet for our liking. Not to say it's not for others, but neither drink/dessert was our cup of tea (literally). The Faluda was actually a dessert, but it can be enjoyed as a drink too. As for service, they were very, very warming and welcoming. Our waiter was checking on us and engaging with us constantly. The service by him couldn't have been any better. Although the restaurant is not huge and seems fairly quiet most of the time (I pass by it frequently), don't be fooled by the lack of buzz because this is one heck of a restaurant. They don't have 5 stars on Yelp for nothing, right????? Let's just say they backed up the positive reviews they've gotten in the past in every single way possible. Will be visiting again real, real soon.
First time trying Burmese food. Ordered the seejet noodles (duck), beef curry with coconut rice, and palata with chicken. If you have never had it, the flavors are similar to Thai and Indian. We ordered this meal for delivery. The beef curry and palata with chicken were my favorites, which were rich in flavor and comforting. The duck noodles were mild and less flavorful than the other dishes, but I enjoyed the textures. Portion sizes were generous.
I've been wanting to check out this spot for a while because there aren't a whole lot (if any) Burmese restaurants I know of in the area. I've only had it a handful of times but love trying new foods. Hubby and I came in for lunch around 1:30 on a Saturday. There were probably only one or two other tables there at the time. We started out with Sato chips, which are chips with their chili seasoning. I have a feeling they're just store bought chips tossed with seasoning, which didn't really feel worth it for $4. Next up, we had the tea leaf salad, which was good. Though, it's not for everybody because it has a very nutty taste. For my main, I went with the Bait Noodles (stir-fried flat noodles with seafood and sausage). This was really good, especially with the chili sauce they gave us. It had the wok hei, and the squid was surprisingly tender, and not chewy. It reminded me of char kway teow. Hubby had the beef curry, which he enjoyed. I liked the curry but the beef was too dry for me. Next time, I'll be back to try the mohinga and the kyae oh noodle soup!
Amayar Kitchen in Maywood, NJ. Have you ever tried Burmese food? @amayarkitchen has to be one of the few Burmese restaurants located in NJ! Burmese food is a combination of food from India, China, and Thailand. Super delicious! I tried the pork curry and it did not disappoint. Insta: @thehungrysw read more

Nice little mom and pop shop. There's limited seating about 4 tables and at the counters. Despite that, You should be easily able to get a seat at any day. I got the Mohinga which was peppered fish soup with rice noodles. I expected chunks of fish but it just have been blended up with the soup because it's really just chunky liquid and thin noodles. I'd give this a 3/5. Ok but I wouldn't get it again. My boyfriend got the Nanjee noodle salad which was chicken with thicker rice noodles and this was better of the two. Diced up chicken in a curry paste noodle. 3.75/5. This I can recommend. Appetizers - veggie fritters. This was recommended by the waitress. Can't go wrong with fried vegetables but not out of this world amazing. I find the fried yellow tofu and interesting texture and fried onions are good. Overall the food was worth a try. read more

It's quite rare to find an authentic Burmese restaurant in this area of NJ, and this is certainly a good one! I got the lunch special (one noodle dish and an appetizer for $13), which is a great deal. I ordered the Bait Noodles, which were fried flat noodles with seafood (mainly shrimp) and sausage. This was a pretty tasty dish- the sausage was sweet and the veggies and egg completed it nicely. My one point for improvement would be that the noodles were a bit mushy even though they were fried. I also tried the Chicken Spring Rolls (comes with two of them), which were crispy on the outside and tasty. For dessert, we got the Assorted Burmese Cakes and Jellies. These come in small cubes- 4 of which are a coconut jelly and 4 of which are a seeded kind of little cake, all of which were warm, not overly sweet, and delicious. $5 for this dessert was another great deal. The restaurant is a local family-run business. The owners are super friendly, attentive, and helpful. They truly care about making sure you are are having an enjoyable dining experience. There is some nice Burmese style decor around the restaurant. We came on a Friday afternoon and were the only customers there, so it was very peaceful inside. There are 4 tables for seating inside. There is also a parking lot right next to the restaurant. Overall, I would highly recommend Amayar Kitchen to anyone interested in trying authentic Burmese food. I'd describe the cuisine as a fusion between Southeast Asian and Indian cuisines, so if you like those, you will almost certainly enjoy Burmese cuisine as well! read more

My first time trying Burmese food, and they did not disappoint. The owner welcome us and recommended what dish would give us the best experience with our visit. Every dish was absolutely delicious, from the Beef palata, Fried Tofu, Burmese tea leaf salad, Mohinga, Chicken and potato curry, up to the dessert Grass jelly juice. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu. I love their food! read more

We were starving after a long, busy day and wanted some nice, comfort food. After looking at reviews for a couple of places in the area we decided to give Amayar kitchen a try since they were top rated. I am glad that we did, because their food is delicious. Our favorite was the chicken potato curry which we ordered with white rice on the side. The chicken was full of flavor and the curry stew perfect with the rice. We also had the beef curry and it was very tender and also delicious with a side of coconut rice. The final dish was the roasted duck noodles. The duck was tender and plentiful over the noodles. The owner was so kind and welcoming when we walked in. We'll definitely return and dine in next time. I'm just upset that it took us so long to try them because we live relatively close- which is great for us! So to sum it up, cute little spot, fresh comfort food with amazing flavors, and great customer service. 5 stars across the board! Sorry about the lack of pics- we were super hungry and dug in immediately! Oh and this was my first time trying Burmese food!!! Love it!! read more

Found a great little Halal Burmese place in Maywood, NJ, just 8 mins from the huge Mall in Paramus. Family owned business where the owners came out to chat with us at length. Will definitely be going back! Burmese food is hard to come by in Jersey! What did we order? Pretty much everything! #halalfood #halalfoodie #halalburmese #burmesefood #maywoodnj #deliciousfood #nyrealtor read more

Great little kitchen. Love the potato samosas. Always light and crispy. Extremely tasty food. Very authentic and feels like home. My one issue that kept me from giving it a 5 star is consistency. The palate appetizer came once with the sauce on top the bread and another time separated from the bread. The beef curry was so tender once and so hard another. The rice was over cooked once and a little over cooked another time. However, the inconsistency, I'll always go back for more. And those homemade sato chips!!!! Whoah!!! If you like a seasoned potato chip... definitely gets these. read more

So happy I finally tried Burmese food from a great spot too. The family that runs this restaurant is truly passionate about their food and the people that want to come and eat it. To end the meal, the owner came over and said hello and spoke to me about my love for spice. He gave me a bag of house made chips, which was so thoughtful and I couldn't have been thankful enough. They're spicy ! The waitress was his daughter and I enjoyed talking to her too. I had a few questions about the dishes and Burmese culture in general and it was great to talk to someone from that culture. I have been wanting to try this cuisine for awhile, but am very ignorant and left in the dark about it. Overall, the meal left a great impact and I can't wait to come back. My suggestion? Have more vegetarian options on the menu and list the ingredients more clearly. I ordered a dish that came with sausage, and thankfully after talking to the waitress she ran in the back to make note to not add the sausage. The Burmese tea salad is a party of flavor. I can't even pinpoint the notes. They all are very addicting, and make you want to grab another bite. I love the chunky texture and could see myself even putting this over rice. The bait noodles were good. Sweet and tangy but a hint of earth in the back. The hosuemade desserts were out of this world too. Everything wasn't overpowering with a sweet note. The jelly were so smooth and refreshing. The pancakes had more of a savory feel to them, and I can easily eat 10 more in a seating. Can't wait to come back and dive into some new flavors and dishes. read more
Excellent food and service. Sato and Lynn made us feel like we're old friends. Saw the sign up before covid lockdown but forgot about them until the other day when we drove past to go to the mall. We waited a year to try hehehe. Never had Burmese food before so this was definitely exciting news. Something different to try. We came 2 days ago with a cousin who came from NYC to visit. We had: Appetizers: Palata with Beef - it was like an egg scramble with lots of ground beef and wonderful spices Potato Cutlet with Beef - think Potato Balls aka Papas Rellenas but with Burmese spices Entrees: Seejet Noodles (Roast Duck with Garlicky Noodles) - I love duck, always order it when ever it is on the menu from every culture I can try! This was by far the most tender duck I've ever had! My favorite so far Kyae Oh Noodles (Pork Balls and Offals in Noodle Soup) - this is a typical Burmese dish and Sato was so nice to omit the offals as the cousin is a picky eater. Shrimp Curry with Coconut Rice - the hubby never order plain white rice if there is some other rice available so of course he chose coconut rice. Wow taste so good. It actually paired well with the curry since it was a bit spicy. Everything was freshly made and taste so good. The accompanying sauces were amazing but becareful they are hot, cleared our sinuses we couldn't stop sniffling LOL. We just went back without the cousin. I had to try the Kyae Oh Noodles with all the fixings. Wow! I don't really like liver but the offal were all very clean. You hardly taste the offalness lol sorry don't know how to describe it, if you had offal you know what I mean LOL. And hubby got Fish Curry with what else Coconut Rice hehehe and Balachaung (Dried Shrimp with Crispy Garlic and Onion). Balachaung was amazing mixed with the coconut rice. The slightly sweetness of the coconut played off the saltiness of the Balachaung is amazing! Amayar is definitely a place worth trying! Your tastebuds will thank you. read more

Haven't really had burmese food, but this is a nice addition to the area. I'd say it is quite similar to Malaysian / Thai style, but this def tasted cleaner and healthier. Tried the see jet (duck) noodles and curry noodle soup. I think the noodles could just use a tad more flavor, but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be and I can respect that. This is family run and they are all so friendly. Overall good taste and worth a try. Their lunch special is awesome and lotta food for $10! read more

Simple, wholesome, home cooking served with a smile. What else can you ask for! The lunch specials run $13 and most mains are in the $12-17 range. The inside is small and not exactly a place for large groups but it is very cute and comfortable. Go here for the yummy food and enjoy something different served by a Burmese restaurant! Note: portion sizes are not the typical "one dish serves two" so if your only concern is eating a lot and bringing leftovers home, you might be happier somewhere else . read more

This place is a hidden gem. I was pleasantly surprised by my visit here. We started with the Burmese tea leaf salad which is like nothing I've ever tried before. It was salty, crunchy and healthy tasting. I will say it has a bit of an acquired taste but the taste is up my alley. The chicken satay was missing all of the salt that was in the salad lol but nonetheless the chicken was flavorful, juicy and the sauce that it came with should be an option to have on the side. The fish soup did not taste peppered like the menu states but it was good fish soup nonetheless. The duck noodles feel like it was missing a sauce. Maybe the pickled juice from the onion and cucumbers on the side would be a nice addition. During checkout we received a bag a chips for our first visit and they are nice and crunchy. Maybe it's the American in me that needs a little salt but a little sea salt would set them chips off! Nice spicy and crunchy. I would recommend this place for an adventurous meal that you didn't know you weee missing! Service was awesome since it was not busy and the waiter was knowledgeable and answered all the questions that I had. read more

We had the pleasure of dining this restaurant that truly captured our heart. It was first time having Burmese food and from the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that instantly made me feel at ease. The service was impeccable, with friendly staff members who went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. We went with 2.5 old kid and lady ( who looked like owner ) prepared potato dish which was perfect for him . Impressive thing is we didn't ask for same and dish was on the house . One dish that I absolutely must recommend is the Coconut Chicken Soup. It was the perfect comfort food . If you're in search of a place that feels like home and offers delicious Burmese cuisine, I highly recommend giving it a try. read more
Ugh, I just hate to have to leave yet another 5 star review for this perfect place. How dare it be so excellent. (Okay, it's tiny. You have to call ahead with a reservation to get a table. Unless you're one person like me, in which case they sit you at the "bar" where you can watch every order be plated and prepared and hear all the conversations. So terrible. Ugh.) Given that prime position, Ruth, a delightful Burmese waitress and daughter of the owner, helped point me to the most authentic foods for my first time. I wasn't feeling up to the tea leaf salad (next time) so I went with balachaung for appetizer ("side dish" but shrug) and the owner/chef said to pair it with rice, so I did. The rice was cooked to burnt - not sure if that's intentional... - but the paste was this delicious hot and slightly salty thing with just... chunks in it. Shrimp I guess. It was so nothing I'm used to. Okay, it was brought out in a portion cup and reheated. But it was reheated using a hot chili sauce to bring it all together and it had to have been made relatively recently, since the nature of the dish... Anyway, the balachaung was fantastic. On to the entree, mohinga, what I'm told is basically the national dish of Burma. It... is not a soup. It is a fish and noodle dish that is in a broth, but is very much mostly the solid ingredients. The fish, like the balachaung shrimp, is more of a paste than either solids or a soup. It's just unique and it tastes great and I devoured every last bit, egg and crunch and nuts and everything. I washed all the dishes down with green tea, which I was told was the most traditional. Not that the other teas aren't traditional. Not that the other dishes aren't traditional. Not that I won't be back to try the others. A unique experience but a jolly good time and I got to know everyone there! So we're all friends now and I will see these friends soon (: read more

Little mom/pop shop. 4 tables inside, one outside. Make sure to get the chili flakes on the side to add to your plate, lacked a bit of spice. Started off with what is probably their most popular menu item: Burmese Tea Leaf Salad - 4/5 - the textures of this plate were really good, flavor was ok Tofu salad (spicy) - 3/5 - personally wasn't spicy. Had an odd texture. Not much flavor but was heavy on the lemon grass which was alright. Not missing anything if you don't get. SeeJet Noodles - 4/5 - good flavor, noodle texture was great, duck was good. Would order this again. Waitress was very energetic and nice. Waiter was the opposite. Overall would recommend trying their food. I will come again to try a curry and the coconut chicken noodle soup. read more

I wanted to try something different for dinner tonight so me and my boyfriend decided we would try Burmese cuisine. Our expectations were beyond exceeded. Everything we had was excellent and it was obvious that everything is homemade here. The Mohinga, a traditional fish noodle soup, was a revelation with its rich, fragrant broth and perfectly cooked rice noodles. The coconut chicken noodle soup was just as incredible.
