Little hidden gem with really good Korean food! This tiny restaurant is located on the second floor of G-Mart supermarket. You have to walk through the store to the back, where you will find stairs that lead up to the restaurant. The first time I came here, I was surprised at the quality of food that came from this little spot. I can't believe I just tried Always Spring when it's been around for so long! My friend decided to take me here one night and the thought of a restaurant inside of a grocery market didn't sit well with me. That feeling immediately changed after I tried the food. I guess we should never judge the book by it's cover. It's one of the best Korean food I've had in a while in town. Everything tasted delicious and portions are huge! We had so much leftover. We ordered seafood pancake which I was so surprised by the amount and variety of seafood in it! Galbi was half portion so it's decent for us. Last but definitely not least, the spicy squid!!!! I spent 2 years serving in South Korea. I love that they service Jabchae. My favorite dish. It's delicious.

Ordered through UberEats, this meal was surprisingly still hot when we received it, and came with rice as well (convenient, as I forgot to cook rice beforehand...). To begin with, the banchan were so delicious. Everything was well marinated and had excellent flavor. The Dwaeji Bulgogi was also delicious, and the pork was tender (typically, this cut of pork is just difficult to make so soft, so I was duly impressed). The Rabokki was also delicious. There was fish cake, one of my favorites, as well as a hard boiled egg and ramen. I would say that if you cannot eat spicy, however, this really might not be the place for you. We ordered regular spicy, and kicked a little bit, but was a good level of spiciness. Additionally, the only thing that I had a concern with was the takeout part of it. When we received the food, despite it being wrapped in foil, the bag was leaking A LOT. Fortunately, the restaurant had double bagged, but it was pretty oily still. First they showed us bad attitude then since my mother is allergic to potato and it's a deathly allergy we made her bring her own food so we could all eat as a family and they told us we couldn't bring any outside food but they said they would let it pass just this time and then not even 5 minutes later another server came up to us and told us the same thing. This time we asked the lady 3 times: When we order, when she handed the soup, when she came back from serving other people. 3 times and she just ignored our request!!! Then while we were dining, we weren't even finish dining yet, she dropped the check/bill on our table. Asking us to leave. There weren't many customers at all, and there were still so many empty tables!!! This place is super authentic and really good, from the food, to service, to ambiance. It really reminded me of being in Korea, and I'm so sad I didn't come around here sooner! The restaurant is inside of the GMart, up the stairs and looking down on the store. It feels very homey, partly because of how small it is, but also because of the wooden interior and warm lights. They have a huge menu with pictures on one of the walls, which was nice to look at for reference. When sitting down, they bring out hot barley tea, and water upon request. We took a few minutes to order, but never felt rushed or that we had to wait to get someone's attention. There were only two people working, but they were really on top of it. We ordered the steamed mandu, pork bulgolgi, and soondubu. This was the perfect amount for two people along with the banchan (side dishes)! The steamed mandu was hands down the closest thing I've had since eating them in Korea. The pork and chive filling was delicious. When the pork bulgolgi came out, the portion was way larger than I thought. At most Korean spots, meats are more expensive for a small platter, but this one was stacked high. Lastly, the soondubu was awesome, with the perfect amount of soft tofu and beef. It wasn't overly spicy, but just enough kick, which was nice for me, considering I'm not very good with spice. This place is in an upstairs loft in the G Mart, right off 217. It was really helpful having the picture menu posted up on the wall; I don't know the names of Korean dishes that well. We ordered bibimbap (skimpy on the meat), spicy tofu soup (GREAT), and pork bulgogi (also GREAT). And ok before you think I'm an insular dummy yes I could have ordered these without the assistance of the picture menu. Good variety of banchan: kimchee, bean sprouts, kombu, potato, etc. Toasted tea also yummy though we did have to track down a waiter for refills. It was quite popular on a Sunday evening -- they don't take reservations you just add your name to the list and wait. We were lucky that our table of 5 got there right before the rush (6pm). When you're done with your meal you walk right downstairs into the meat section so if you're feeling inspired grab some beef or pork to go and get cooking. read more

Finally got out to Beverton to try Always Spring (known as Spring on Yelp for some reason) I was not disappointed. There's a good selection of dishes and a generous banchan. For the banchan, the marinted tofu and veggie were our favorite but the marinated potato was great too. I got the Galbi Yukgaejang and my wife got the dolsot Bibimbap. We both felt the meat portions were on the small side but the meat was high quality. This is an excellent spot and I wish we had a restaurant of this quality over in SE/North Clackamas. I will make this a go-to spot when work takes me over to the west side. read more

Incredible food! Everything we've tried has been amazing. Considering how busy they tend to be, the food comes out pretty quickly. Portions are great. Family run place. First of all, really great service-- the young server, which I believe is the son, was super attentive and polite. We ordered soon tofu, stir fried squid and the seafood pancake. My mom and I really enjoyed the first two-- they were authentic tasting and delicious. The seafood pancake batter was a tad too thick for our liking; I think it need a bit more water. True authentic Korean food in the greater Portland area. I wish this place was right next to where I lived -- I'd be here at least a few times a week. Have been here twice and both times the taste is on point. It's in the back of a grocery store, and the ambiance is decidedly no frills at all. There's tables, and there's menus on the wall, and there are ajummas that come by to ask for your order. It comes out quick. The banchan is ridiculous. Even compared to LA, there's a lot of dishes, and there's generous portions for each. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have recommended it to so many people and I just moved to Portland a month ago!! I'm from the Bay Area in California and I feel like there's a lot of good Korean restaurants there. Also, I'm half Korean and my mom and grandma would make bomb food all the time. So coming to this place was absolutely amazing. #1 you know it's legit because you see a bunch of old Korean people sitting around #2 it's kinda hole in the wall place above Gmart but the best places are kinda hole in the wall looking lol I tried their tteokguk (which is my favorite comfort soup) and it was probably one of the best tteokguk soups I've had in awhile!!! I was so happy eating it I could barely contain my joy. I had to express it in food dances!! We also got japchae, seafood pancake, and this spicy beef soup. Everything was soooo good. To be warned, the spicy level of that beef soup was HOT! So I would be careful about ordering anything spicy there if you're not used to it lol I will need to come back to try more dishes but so far, I'm really impressed and I'm so excited to live only 10min away! My favorites are Gamjatang (i love the large potatoes) and Kimchi Jjigae but they have some bomb rakbokgi!! First off, to clear-up any confusion, YES, this restaurant is INSIDE the G-Mart asian supermaket, up the stairs in the back, on the 2nd floor!! Although I've had some good Korean food from very legit owners/cooks here in PDX, this is the first time that I really felt like I was transported back to a local restaurant in Seoul! Despite others' reports, our service was attentive & friendly, and the food came out really fast (~10 minutes for 5 main dishes and banchan) ***The Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) was delicious! the batter light & mildly sweet, with plenty of meat and veggies, cooked to golden brown perfection; 8 slices enough to feed 4! ***The spicy grilled pork bugolgi was equally impressive with quality cuts of meat and grilled onions in a red sauce as deep in flavor that it is in color, all atop a sizzling platter *** And a flawless rendition of the classic dolsot bibimbap (in the hot stone bowl) Prices were just right (avg $9-14 depending on the dish), and with reloads of the banchan we all left full and satisfied. And of course, on your way out, don't forget to check out some of the supermarket goods that on the whole are cheaper than Uajimaya or Fubon. I will admit, I got side tracked a few times while arriving at the "restaurant". I first missed a street so after a couple of U-Turns I finally arrived at my destination??? the reason for the ??? is because there are no clear signs the restaurant is present. Having pictures of the food items on the wall certainly helped and made my hunger even more painful. It wasn't terribly busy and we got a table right away. I did make reservations earlier but I doubt it will be necessary for future visits. The spicy bulgogi pork called my name so that was my main dish. Others ordered some big bowls of soups. We started off with a seafood pie to kick things off. Light, crisp, not fishy, delicious is how I describe the appetizer. It was definitely a great portion size for the 4 of us. Soon after, the small bowls of goodness such as kimchee and sweet potatoes. I'm sure chopsticks were used to fight off hunger games style who would get what first. Then my sizzling spicy bulgogi pork arrived and everyone was in awe. There was plenty for me and also enough to share with my friends. The meat was very moist, just perfectly spiced, and just the right amount of sauce. All the dishes I sampled were delicious and the portions plentiful. Service was friendly and quick. This is definitely a hidden gem in G-MART. Normally I love going to Nakwon because they have the most amazing side dishes and food, but the wait is usually pretty long. The wait at Spring restaurant is much shorter and the food is also good. I wish they would work on their side dishes a little though because I don't like most of them. Here's the dishes I've tried so far listed from my fav to least enjoyed: #25. GAMJA TANG ($10) Pork backbone soup with potatoes,cabbage, and wild sesame seeds. This is my favorite soup here so far. I've never had something quite like it with the thick and spicy soup. The meat falls right off the bones and the roasted sesame seeds adds a unique flavor that I really enjoy. #21 . YUKGAE JANG ($10) Spicy soup with beef, sprouts, and bracken. This is a dish I almost always get at korean restaurants. Spring's version is pretty solid in my book. #42. DONGTAE MAEUNTANG ($12) Stew with fish and radish. Yummy! The fish definitely brings a nice refreshing flavor that's a bit lighter than the meat soups in #25 and #21. They give lots of fish too. #10 JJOL-MYEON ($10) Now this one I'm not sure if it's the dish I ordered, but it was a cold chewy noodle with a bit of spice and lots of veggies. It's similar to bibim nangmyeun except with the noodles thicker and less chewy. The noodles are also warm instead of cold. #33. BULGOGI ($12) Yummy bulgogi. I'm not usually a big fan of BBQ meats, but I definitely enjoyed this. #4. RAPOKKI ($10) Stir fried rice cake with fish cake, egg, and ramen. I was a little disappointed because the flavor is on the sweet side and I like mine more spicy. #20. GALBI TANG ($10) Soup with beef ribs and radish.The soup seemed more watery without much flavor so it would probably taste better if they boiled it a bit longer. There is no doubt in my mind that this restaurant is in fact 100% 5 stars. It is very consistent every single time I come here. It always taste the same all around whatever dish I order. Rabokki-sweet and spicy dish. The spice is the perfect level. I like to think the spice as a korean standard spice. It's comforting, hot, yet flavorful. Each rice cake has the same chewy and soft consistency. The dish is very abundant for its price as well. It has the perfect ratio of fish cake, rice cakes, and noodles. Seafood pancake- again, always consistent all around. This is the one dish I always order when I come here. It will always taste great and it's never changing. Each bite is crunchy yet soft and you will always get a bit of seafood. The sauce for this dish is epic; it is everything for this dish. Definitely the MVP of the pancake. It tops off the pancake w explosive flavors. Lastly, the banchan collection is probably the best of any korean restaurant/KBBQ I've been had. If your banchan doesn't have fish cakes, you're doing it wrong in my book. Everything else is top notch. A major highlight would be their kimchi radish, it's different. That's all I can really say.
