I have never had a bad meal here, and I always try to be adventurous and try something new each time. With that being said, I always get an order of the Chongqing diced chicken. It is one of my fave dishes of all time (be warned, it is SPICY. Not for the faint of heart). The sauteed pig intestine with chili is another fave of mine. The dining area is spacious and cute, and the staff here is always incredibly nice and knowledgeable. Very helpful when there is a lot of dishes you might not be familiar with ! Chengdu is a must try if you are in the Smith Hill area of Providence. In fact , it's worth a trip to Smith Hill all on it's own.

When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.

I liked the seating arrangements and how we were able to sit right by the window. The waiter was very nice and the service was prompt. What I loved most about it is the fact that they can make any dish on the menu vegan. That's huge! So I definitely took advantage of this and got myself a vegan red curry since curries aren't usually vegan. My husband got the lemongrass dish veganized with tofu. Both dishes were very flavorful and presentation was also very nice and aesthetically pleasing! For dessert, we got the fried banana rolls with ice cream which was also tasty. A huge plus was the fact that they even had a vegan honey for the dessert which is rare to find in restaurants so I was really excited about that ! The only downside to dining at the restaurant is finding parking on the hill which can always be a bit challenging, but because we were there on a weekday, we didn't have much trouble finding some metered parking. I highly recommend and will definitely be returning to try other dishes soon!

We started with the Thai Iced Tea and Fresh Rolls-shrimp, lettuce, cucumber, beansprout, carrot, basil wrapped in rice paper. The Thai Iced Tea was good and not too sweet. The fresh rolls was very fresh, just wished there was some vermicelli in there. For entrees, we had the Pad See Eww-beef, wide rice noodle, Chinese broccoli, black soy sauce and Drunken Noodles-Beef, wide rice noodle, egg, thai basil chili base, vegetables. The noodles were so flavorful and had such a great taste. The beef was a little dry, so I would get a different protein next time. The drunken noodles were spicy, so if you can't handle spicy I would suggest leveling down the spice level or order another dish. Overall, I definitely will be coming back and trying the other entrees.

The pros: the new owners are very friendly and personable. The wonton soup is still great and has even more wontons and pork lately. The Peking ravioli seem to be even tastier than they have in the past. The cons: in the past 2 weeks, I've ordered several dishes that were very different and sub-par compared to the food under the former owners. The chicken and broccoli was very goopy and the chicken tasted spoiled. I had to throw it away. I ordered chicken teriyaki and that chicken tasted sour as well, as though it was spoiled or had some type of spoiled marinade on it. This happened to me twice. Last, the waitress is no longer there I guess, so there is one person trying to work the front and serve tables. It's not working out. It is sad to say I am no longer a loyal customer to this establishment. What was once one of the busiest corners in Arctic is now a ghost town. It is a shame to see a business that was superseded by such a strong reputation be diminished by the lack of consideration by new management. At first glance, you don't see much from Elmwood Ave, but veer to the right and everything opens up on the left, with a parking lot in the back. Ornate statues lead you to the entrance, and once inside you are instantly greeted with bold colors and beautiful art everywhere. I wanted to take the opportunity to try some Cambodian food, so after some quick research, I opted for Beef Lok Lak, which happened to be one of the lunch combos. I chose fried rice and nime chow for my lunch options and settled back to wait for my feast. They bring you a complementary pot of hot tea, which I enjoyed. I believe it was a straightforward unsweetened black tea. Perfect for me. Before long the rangoons arrived. I literally said "wow" when the runner set my plate down. Beautiful golden brown, small bubbles visible all over the outside, promising crispy goodness. And it delivered. What I didn't expect what the slight chewiness to the wrapper that enhanced the experience. The filling was super creamy and delicious, but I prefer my rangoons with scallions as well. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying every bite. Then my lunch came. The beef was perfectly cooked, the dressing tangy and peppery. The nime chow was herby and super fresh as it should be. And the rice had this extra depth of flavor that made me think of tomato paste? A lovely addition the dish. I had a great meal here and the rangoons are definitely worth having! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!!

For the longest, I thought Apsara on Hope St and this Apsara were the same owners, different locations but I was fooled. They are different, so I came on a Saturday evening with my friend to give this one a try. They have a parking lot but it is small. However, there is lots of street parking around. When we walked in, every table was full and we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Since we had time to look at the menu while we waited, we ordered right away: BBQ beef, stir fried thin egg noddle with seafood, and thai garlic chicken wings. While waiting for the food, I had ample time to take in my surroundings, including all the elegant décor around the restaurant including a lot of red and gold colors. Our food came out all together after about 20-30 minutes. The portion sizes were excellent, and all the food was still hot. The beef was cooked perfectly (for me) and cut into manageable strips. It was tender, a hint of sweet, and savory. It came with some sweet pickled shaved radish, cabbage, and carrots with cucumber. This with the meat created a contrast in texture and amplified the sweetness. There was also a clear sauce and that was also really.good. The fried noodles were delicious. They were thin so it seemed like the flavor penetrated inside the noodle. It had a good amount of seafood including big chunks of imitation crab meat, shrimp, and something else I was unfamiliar with. It also had mustard leaves; they weren't bitter, they just had a neutral green leaf flavor (maybe spinach but stronger). The chicken wing order came with about 8 wings, sitting on a bed of cabbage and topped with jalapeno and chili peppers. They were still very hot and crispy, and had a savory and a subtle umelike flavor. I wish the garlic flavor were stronger. I am excited to come back again and try something new on the menu.

A recent Yelp review gave high marks for the food quality but said the portions were small. On my visit I experienced the opposite for the most part. -- Tom Yum Soup: My wife's dish, so I didn't try. Looked much more thick and orange than the classic version. My wife said it didn't have much flavor. -- Golden Triangles (Samosas): Their miniature take on the Indian specialty had more flavor in one bite (potatoes, carrots, peas, and onion, sauce, spices) than everything else I had put together, but a little odd in a size not much bigger than a Chicklet. Zesty dipping sauce too. -- Scallion Pancake: Pretty ho hum and a little dry. Standard dipping sauce. -- Chili Wings: Plenty of glistening sauce, plenty of temperature heat, but no spice heat. Semi crisp and moist on the flats, very crisp and very dry on the drums. -- Pad Thai: More ho hum but near-dry in a good way. Too many versions of this dish are too sweet and too wet. This didn't have much of anything flavorwise. Shrimp on top nicely cooked. And a full bowl. -- Tofu Royal: Fresh vegetables, nicely cooked, low on flavor. -- Eggplant Delight: Fresh vegetables, nicely cooked, low on flavor (and this is flagged on the menu as very spicy). -- Chicken Krapow: My "barometer" dish to try on my first visit to any Thai restaurant brought another full bowl, lots of crumbled chicken, mostly on the dry side, with basil presence but no basil flavor, and no spice (and this is flagged on the menu as very spicy). All of the dishes would be fine if served in a typical American health food cafe. I love Thai food, but I never really got the sense I was eating Thai food. Just generic stir fry. Service was very minimal for a sit-down place. Served by the hostess who did double duty. Luckily we didn't need water refills, thanks spice and flavor being AWOL.
