We were seated immediately at a table by the window. Our waiter, Kevin, promptly brought us water and took our order. One of our favorite dishes is their Walnut Shrimp & Pineapple, served in a fruit mayonnaise sauce and topped with honey and walnuts. We ordered this again and also decided to try the Coconut Shrimp. Both dishes arrived in less than 10 minutes. The Walnut Shrimp & Pineapple was excellent, as usual. The Coconut Shrimp was good, although the breading was a little heavier than we prefer. We decided to also try the Gyoza. Once again, the dish arrived quickly, and the gyoza were excellent. Service was excellent throughout our meal. By the time we left, the restaurant was almost full, so we were glad we had decided to dine early. I recently stopped by Jacky's Galaxy in downtown Providence for lunch and tried one of their lunch specials: chicken udon noodles. The meal included a choice of soup or salad to start, and I chose the soup. It was flavorful and enjoyable, though it was served warm rather than hot. The chicken udon noodles were also tasty, but like the soup, they arrived only warm instead of piping hot. On the positive side, the service was fast, friendly, and attentive throughout my visit. We recently had dinner at Jacky's and we had a good meal. I'm going to break down the experience in three categories. Logistics / Host - We were meeting friends, so I asked them to let the host know that the reservation was under my name. When we arrived, I gave my name and the hostess asked if there were still 4 of us. I said yes...I also said, when my friends arrive, please show them to our table. We got seated and after 20 minutes of waiting for our friends, we finally got a call from our friends, who had been waiting at another table in another part of the restaurant. So the coordination at the hostess stand was unacceptable. Service - Kevin was our server and he was excellent. Polite, professional, knowledgeable and attentive. A great experience. Food - Everything we had was very good from the dim sum dishes to the Lo Mein, green beans, Chinese broccoli and sushi. Not as consistent as the North Providence Jacky's location as far as sushi but it still does the trick. The prices definitely reflect being in the heart Downtown but I love that they still have the VIP rewards program. I've gotten takeout and dined in- I feel the prices are a little more justified when dining-in since the view is fantastic- a nice place for a fancy splurge! Sushi in general is pretty ok here- for example, the uni didn't seem super fresh, tasted a little bit off- but not everyone has uni these days so it's a nice treat... Large menu with something to please for everyone including a good beer/wine and alcohol selection. My bandmate craves the Shanghai noodles here so i'll usually grab a simple spicy salmon roll when we go (or a French Crunchy Roll if I'm feeling fancy). I love a good yellowtail jalapeño but the sauce on this one was a little bit thick/heavy in comparison to the North Providence Jacky's- still good but I prefer the lighter/fresher one. Overall, I would recommend for a fancy Downtown splurge with great city views but I think the N.P. location is more consistent as far as the sushi quality. *If you order takeout, make sure to check your order before you leave I would say price for value this place is 4.5 stars but I always round up for local places that I like to support- plus, the service here is also super friendly... did I mention the views?!!! read more

I started with a lychee martini and it was excellent -- strong, clean, and well-balanced without being overly sweet. You could actually taste the lychee instead of just sugar. The wonton soup was a great way to start the meal. Good depth of flavor, light but satisfying, and a perfect portion. The tuna tartare was the standout for me. It's easily my favorite item on the menu so far -- rich, fresh, and really well composed. For my entrée, I ordered the tricolor, which features three varieties of fish. Each one was prepared thoughtfully and cooked well, with distinct flavors that didn't compete with each other. Overall, a really solid dinner. The interior design of Jackie's is absolutely unhinged, it feels like a little slice of mid 2000s Vegas. The food and service is nothing to write home about. The sushi is lack luster, they lean into heavily seasoned rolls to cover up mediocre quality fish. The appetizers are somehow much better than the dinners. The xiao long bao and peking duck are shockingly tasty. Though due to their timing and turn over, I suspect the dumplings are frozen and the duck is pre-roasted. read more

It was Waterfire night and we had family come out of town so we thought making a dinner reservation for four at Jacky's Waterplace would be a really nice treat. When I made the reservation through OpenTable, I put in a special request to sit by the window with a view of waterfire. After I checked in at the counter, the staff bought us to a window table and we had a great view of waterfire. The restaurant was busy and there were a good amount of people having dinner. Our waitress took a while to come take our order. When she did come, I asked if the Dim Sum Samples dish quantity is set and she said yes kind of rudely. We ordered the Dim Sum Samples dish and I had the Pineapple Fried Rice. The food took a long time to arrive. The Dim Sum Samples comes with 3 Shrimp Dumplings, 3 Siumai, and 3 Pork Soup Dumplings. It didn't taste freshly made, but it was okay. The Pineapple Fried Rice had Thai Style shrimp, chicken, asparagus, eggs, and diced pineapple. I was really surprised that it had no soy sauce. It tasted okay, but kind of bland and cold. Since I've been been to Jacky's Waterplace a few times before, I know their food and service is usually on point. Took the recommendation to try Jacky's from a friend as I was in town for another dance convention with my daughter and she had a hankering for sushi. Since the convention was a few blocks away and not really a prime food location I wasn't sure what I was going to get. And we all know bad sushi can be very bad Upon entering I realized that this was more of an upscale Japanese's cuisine sort of place and to be honest what really pleased me was the pumping AC as it must have been the hottest day of the year, maybe even millennium We were seated and drinking our ice cold beverages in moments and eating before our internal thermostat could adjust. Hurray! The sushi roll I ordered was a mango crab cucumber and avocado favorite and it was soft tender and fresh. My daughter's roll was a vegetable roll. Simple but that's as far as she will go in regards to sushi, and we were off to a good start Next up was the pork dumpling soup. This is the first time I've ever had this and I'm wondering how did I not know what was missing in my life? I'm not joking when I say that must have been the tastiest dish I've ever had (and my grandfather was a professional chef in NYC). I figured out pretty quickly how to eat the dumpling and get the soup hiding inside without burning or hurting myself. (Proud moment lol). It was just the right amount of chicken broth and not too salty at all. I can't rave enough about this dish. The portion sizes were generous the dough just chewy enough and steamed to perfection so as not to be either over or under cooked. And the pork flavor was the perfect combination as to add to the overall balance. Really wonderful. My daughter's main course consisted of the noodles and chicken and I ordered steak with Asian rice. The steak was buttery soft and tender and grilled to the perfect medium with just a hint of soy sauce so as not to battle with the natural juices of the cut. The portion size was so generous that I don't think I had one quarter of it but we took it to go and ate the following day. I'm happy to report than even on day 2 the meal was still outstanding and held up to the challenge I can't really say anything negative about this place and even the window sill that was held together by clear tape didn't detract from the overall experience. My wife was graduating from Brown University and I was looking for places to eat in Downtown Providence knowing that it would be pretty busy on graduation weekend. I was booked the table weeks in advance on OpenTable which was pretty convienient. Jacky's was a little bit of a walk but walkable from the Brown campus. The restaurant has valet, I didn't notice how much they charged, but we parked at a nearby lot using Spothero. The restaurant is a big with a bar area and a main dining hall area. Our party got there early and we asked if we could get seated earlier. They had space for our party of six in the bar area which was pretty comfortable even as the bar area was getting busier. Jacky's has Chinese and Japanese inspired menu. We ordered a bunch of the Chinese items. A friend of our's has a glutten allergy and the server was able to help us identify glutten free items. We were pleasantly suprised with that the Chinese dishes were tasty and pretty authentic. The meal came out quickly. Jacky's was a 4 star experience sullied at the end by an older waitress who damaged the experience. Our waitress Kili was awesome and very attentive. I appreciated her service. She sat us by the window and we had a great view of the Providence River as we dined in celebration of my birthday. I order a huge 20oz Scorpion Bowl drink (with light and dark rum, amaretto, brandy, triple sec and fruit juices), and it was awesome. The edamame appetizer was good but want dipped in salt the way I am used to and tend to enjoy. The crab rangoons were also tasty and had a nice dipping sauce. My wife ordered the whole fish (bass) with white rice and it was moist and delectable. I ordered brown rice and it wasn't nearly as good. I also ordered steak and scallops. The scallops were a bit tough and dry, but the steak was cooked well and pretty good. We also enjoyed crème brûlée and cheesecake to wrap up the meal. The top of the crème brûlée could have been caramelized a bit longer but it was still good. The frustrating part came just before dessert. An older waitress came and just started closing the curtains by the window where we sat. When we asked why she was closing it she said the light was bothering her customer's eyes. I suppose what we felt didn't matter. Honestly, had she simply asked us if it was okay to close it for the customer we would have said sure. But she didn't really care what we thought because apparently her customer's needs were superior to ours. That's just bad service and caused me to deduct a star. read more

Went for an early-ish dinner, for two! We got the siu mai, salmon belly roll, northeastern tiger roll, and French crunchy roll and two cocktails (espresso and Asian pear mojito). Everything was good, with the Salmon Belly Roll being the standout. (I would recommend it!) We ate the siu mai with hot mustard as a dipping sauce (kind of like more flavorful wasabi and not as spicy). The cocktails did not taste super alcohol-y which is a win in my book, as I prefer alcoholic drinks that don't taste like alcohol, but can still mess you up. My husband I went here while in town for a conference. We wanted fresh sushi and Jacky's did not disappoint! 10/10 would recommend. We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately. The service all through dinner was outstanding and the employees seemed to enjoy working there. They were friendly and made great recommendations. We ordered the tuna with jalapeno and it was so fresh and just the right amount of spice. We got 3 rolls for dinner: The Godzilla which was fire with the fried eel in top 10/10, the Northeastern Tiger which was also fabulous 10/10 and the Dynamite which has cooked tuna and was tasty. This review is a compilation of three visits (2022 & 2023 & May 14, 2024) to Jacky's Waterplace in Providence, one of the restaurant's six locations in Rhode Island. Jack's gets high marks for its modern, spacious, glitzy and bright interior, with nice views overlooking the Woonsaquatucket River. One of things you might encounter is a gimmicky yet adorable robot that will bring your order to your table, and sing happy birthday. The menu is a jack of all trades but a master of none. You will find an expansive fusion offerings that include Japanese fare, Chinese, Thai and even Vietnamese dishes. But I'd stick with the Sushi and Sashimi (5 out of 10) as the cooked dishes are not executed at a very high level, and if the restaurant is busy, as it is most weekends, the food could have been sitting for a while. And if it says spicy, it's not really spicy. The "Singapore Prawns" had a balanced flavor but the chili sauce was very heavy and should have been more subtle. So go and enjoy the views, the mod interior, a colorful salt-water aquarium, and have fun with friends, and even enjoy valet parking, but don't expect the quality of the food to be anything much above average. read more

I'm not sure if this location has the lemon chicken dinner but that is also a really good one at the other Jacky's. Great views right in the heart of downtown Providence! This was a nice evening out, taking mom who was visiting from out of town wanted to go downtown and be near the water. I love the valet parking that makes it easy get in. I loved the walnut prawn dish, & several pieces of tuna sushi that was tasty. Mom had a huge dish of chicken and asparagus and then we got a side of green beans that we ate for a week, and a nice glass of Riesling Mosel wine to round out the meal. Friendly servicer was engaging and we especially liked little robot that delivers your plates, a cute little goofy gadget. Okay, so my sister, her partner, my nephew went to PPAC to see Clue, and afterwards, we went here for lunch. I had never heard of this place before, but I was instantly curious. There was this beautiful saltwater aquarium that greeted us as we made our way inside, and we did not have to wait for our table, which was nice - although I would have enjoyed watching the fish if we did have to wait for a table. The decor is kind of like modern art deco, and we were seated at a table that had a beautiful view of the river outside. I took one look at the menu, and I instinctively knew the Shanghai noodles would be delicious. Spoiler alert: I was right. Shanghai noodles, dumplings, beef skewers.... everything I ate was nothing short of delicious. I could just tell the food was made by chefs who genuinely love what they do. I even recommended the Shanghai noodles to the valet driver who parked our car later on. Will I be back here again? My answer is YES, especially if it's for more of those delicious Shanghai noodles. Can I just say how top tier this place was. Firstly, I've never been here before it was my birthday a few weeks ago, and my friend had recommended we come for lunch. Had no idea it sat by the water where the water fire usually is. Amazing views from the windows and it's gorgeous inside! A huge fish take, amazing places to take pictures all around, very spacious and cozy! I'm not a sushi fan, but they had real Chinese food and it was so good, let me tell you. I got the beef and broccoli chicken and it was so good! So yummy, so flavorful and there was so much I had to bring the rest home. Our server Chang was an absolute delight. Very caring and such a charm. He made sure to take care of us and for sure made my birthday special. He put it for a special birthday desert to come over to the table and it was a robot cat, creepy but cute. It sang happy birthday to me, I've never seen something so animated and robotic come up to me. Overall 10/10 I would do sure come back for any occasion, but dress us more the ambience gives sexy vibes and not sweater or jeans, for sure something cute. Also it being right downtown over Waterfire I'm sure it gets packed in here. Oh, the parking. For anyone who misses the Train at Providence. Just outside and around the corner is a Gem of a Restaurant called Jacky's Water Place! I literally had less than one hour to get something quick and light to eat and drink before boarding the next train. Told the bartender my situation and knew right away what to suggest. Fried Dumplings and Wonton Soup with their fantastic hot mustard. For my part I contributed to the order by getting an Order of Dry Sake and a Sapporo Beer. Everything arrived within 5-10 minutes of my arrival, I didn't get a chance to take in the larger Room area (Ate at the bar) but it was a beautiful seating area with great views of Downtown Providence. Reasonably priced, great service and food. Perfect pitstop on the Northeast Corridor. I look forward to missing my train the next time I am in town. Highly recommend! read more

It's a upscale Asian restaurant right on the river bank with quite nice view. They offer combination of Japanese food as well as Chinese food mainly Cantonese food. We selected seafood egg drop soup (very good), five spice calamari (ok), spare ribs with garlic (good but a little too sweet for me), sauteed string bean with garlic & basil (good), stir fried lobster with ginger & scallions (excellent), and pineapple fried rice (good). I visited Jacky's today for a late lunch. I have visited the North Providence location before and wasn't entirely impressed by their selection. One additional star up for ambiance, scenic location, and service, but the food was just ok. Drinks are always good. I went the safe route today and just had sushi. The sushi was fresh and filling, can't go wrong with that. They have both classic and specialty rolls, but we opted for the classic rolls. Again, I feel that the food could be a bit elevated or at least have some specials to spice it up to equivalate to the prices of each dish. I would only recommend if someone is new to Cantonese-style cuisine or if there is a large party that is looking to eat Chinese food in the area. read more

Been here before and it's usually decent! Yesterday was insane. One valet guy working!Unfair to him! Had to be one waitress working the ENTIRE, packed restaurant. I was looking forward to celebrating my mother's birthday as I do every year since she passed away in 2021. I decided to dine at Jackie's Water Place Galaxy, as she loved Asian food. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but enjoyable. From the moment we walked in, I felt the negative vibes and being that I was in celebratory mood and didn't want anything or anyone to mess up my energy I decided to ignore it. That was my second mistake, the first was picking this restaurant. The host's attitude was lackluster and dismissive when we requested a table near the window. The waitress never acknowledged us, nor did she come to take our order. After sitting there for 15 minutes without any service, we decided to leave. This was particularly disappointing since the restaurant was not busy at all. The lack of customer service was palpable, and the overweight purple-haired waitress seemed to cater to every other table in the restaurant except ours. As a black woman, I couldn't help but feel that the way we were treated was due to the color of my skin. It was disheartening to see how other tables, all of whom were white or non-black, received attentive and friendly service while we were ignored. What's worse is that the waitress looked at and ignored us multiples times, even as we're walking out and I know she wanted a reaction out of me. In fact, I can tell people like her expect a reaction. I will not be returning to Jackie's Water Place Galaxy, and I advise others to seek out other options. With so many excellent sushi and Asian restaurants in the area, you can easily find a better dining experience. Fortunately, we walked to FoGo De Chao at Providence Place Mall, and the service there was exemplary and completely different from what we experienced at Jackie's. I hope that Jackie's improves its treatment of customers in the future but honestly this was second time at this location and the first wasn't great either but I thought I'll give them another try.
