Tom rocks! Tom does great work. I never have to wait. He's patient and professional. He makes the time to explain everything in detail.

Great experience getting my van smog checked here. He was quick and helpful in getting the large sprinter van safely in and out! Affordable and was only charging $10 to re test if it didn't pass. Convenient location right on the corner. read more

Been coming here for years and years, if you need a smog check done, Tom and this place is the best! Very quick and easy. Because of this (and the 5 star rating this place has), there could be a bit of a wait and it looks intimidating because the parking lot is a bit small. But not to worry! Plenty of street parking if needed. My last time here (today) and luckily there was no one there, Tom took my car and I was in and out of there in maybe 10 minutes. $60 well spent! read more

Great service along with Fast responses. I completed my smog test for my truck and was in and out within 20 minutes. Highly recommend this shop for your smog needs. Great pricing! read more

Tom at Altadena Smog Test Only is my go-to for smog tests, oil changes, and any issues I have with my Toyota. He always makes time to take care of my car as quickly as possible when something goes wrong, is fairly priced, and very honest. Tom is an honest, reliable, and trustworthy mechanic. I was ill and miscounted money, I ended up giving him $100 more (services are cheaper if you pay cash). Tom called me and let me know. I went to pick up my money the next day. Another time I thought I had an oil leakage in the summer. He educated me and told me it wasn't oil, but water from ac usage. Another time the oil sign on my car was flashing red. I thought I needed an oil change, but I just needed this liquid (my car utilized three bottles- I paid $15). Again, if you want great service, Tom is your honest guy! read more

I have been a customer now for 20 years. Very fast. Sends all to Sacramento quickly and worth the price.

Tom is the best! He's honest, he's reliable, he's skilled, and his prices are reasonable. Naturally, I waited until the last possible minute to renew my registration for my car. New Years Eve. The next day they'd be open would be one day past the due date, which means an extra $50!!! Imagine my surprise and slight panic when they told me I needed a smog test. I was under the impression that they were good for two years, but not the case. Google Maps put Altadena Smog Test as my closest smog check location, a mile from the DMV. I hopped in my car, pulled into the lot, and was greeted by a nice man named Tom (the manager) who was changing someone's tire. He asked, "Smog Test?" I said YES! He immediately started working on my car. Immediately. The whole process was done in about 20 minutes, maybe less, and all in all cost me $50. I passed! He gave me my paperwork, and I was able to make it back to the DMV in the same day to take care of business. Quick and easy service, fair price, friendly staff... Without a doubt will be my go-to smog place from now on. read more

Honest guy who does good work, is flexible with payments, and seems able to fix anything.

I brought my Honda Accord in for a smog check and I was immediately attended to. The whole experience lasted maybe 10 minutes - super pleased with the service. Will return again for my next smog check. read more

I've been taking my cars to Tom for years - including a Viper and Porsche. My Porsche failed the smog test recently and I had to do some repairs. I brought it back and it passed. There was no charge for the re-test. Tom is absolutely first-rate. Friendly, knowledgeable, and will work with you to problem-solve. He is my go-to guy for all my smog needs. He also owns a small shop for repairs so he really knows what he is doing. read more

Tom does repairs, as well as smog tests. I've always found him to be honest and efficient. He's a rare mechanic who will counsel you out of repair work if he doesn't think it's necessary, even if other mechanics think it is. He also plays guitar in his free time. Ask him about it! read more

I was in a foul mood when I came to get my smog test this day..oh yeah, now I remember why, because my smog test was due in a day and I hate cutting it that close! I can't remember the guy that helped me, but he was a very nice Asian man who calmed my fears about getting my damn tests in on time. The prices seemed comparable to other smog test places, but since the place is tucked away on Nina St., it doesn't have huge waiting lines, in fact, I didn't wait at all. The friendly Asian man greeted me as soon as I stepped out of my car. There's a weight bench hanging out there, so maybe the team gets buff when there's no one around - I like it, way to maximize your time, guys! read more

Tom really is the man! He is quick and has reasonable prices. I took my old 1992 Honda Accord in there to have it checked for the DMV and he knows how anxious I get. He reassured me as he was working on the car that it would pass and kept my mental health intact, and for that I thank you Tom! It's not easy to spot, but I've been telling people about it because the service is excellent. I take my car there every time i need a smog check. I would recommend you do the same! Also, his shop is clean and you can tell he is organized. Love that! read more

I did not wait until the last moment to have my smog test done, but I still appreciate fast and friendly service I received from Tom at Altadena Smog Test Only. I was in and out in 15 minutes and had time to run over to AAA to get my registration taken care of. It's been a while since I had a smog test--my Honda didn't need one for 5 years--so I don't know if this has become the norm, but this small shop had a comfy waiting area inside. Not as nice as, say, a Jiffy Lube, but still, it beat milling around outside like I had always had to do in the past. Tom, the manager, is friendly, fast and efficient. I told him I had found him on Yelp, which lead to a conversation about finding restaurants. He even gave me a recommendation for Vietnamese food, which is lacking in my immediate neighborhood. I plan to try his recommendation: The original Golden Deli in Temple City. Nothing extraordinary about the price--they're basically all the same because of the state regulation--but the service is great. I'll be back in two years! read more

Definitely the place to go and get your smog check done at!! Its that time of year to do the smog check on my truck, I must say I was a little bit worried, because I had recently installed brand new catalytic converters on my truck about 2 years ago. Didn't know if they were street legal or not. Tom was extremely helpful, courteous, and assured me that everything was going to be ok. Sure enough, quick in and out procedure, total of 20 minutes!! GOOD JOB!!! I am going to recommend all of my friends and customers to go here and get their smog done. Thanx TOM!!! JD VIP Auto Customs read more

NO FREE RETEST - I and my family have taken our cars here since early 2000's. Today after he got in the car to check the milage and status and then opened the hood, He asked me to pay in advance, something he'd never asked me before. After I paid, less than a few seconds passed between taking my money and walking to the car, looked inside and proclaimed "Car will Fail".I asked him why and he said "I didn't see the engine light" "We no longer give free re-tests" I was suprised by this also, I had come to him, because his shop's policy has always been "Free re-test if the car fails" so I asked him, "What do you mean you no longer give free-retest? He replied, "No one in the area gives free re-tests anymore" "I can only give you a 50% discount to re-test it". He then plugged in a portable sensor checker and said it has a bad sensor, came back to the computer and plugged it in and printed out the fail paper I left and went to Honda to have the repair made, even the Honda Service Person was surprised when I told him what happened, and about the statement that "no other shops in Pasadena are giving free re-tests". When I got home, I looked at his paper work and the business card he attached to the registration, says "Free Retest" He told me he could only give me a 50% discount on the retest. Very disappointed. read more

Best price in town. Super fast service & friendly staff. Added bonus is seeing all the Bentlys & Rolls Royce at the neighboring shop.

Desperate to find a smog check shop open until 5:30 or 6:00, I called around and finally found this place. The man on the phone said he normally closed up shop at 5:30, but would stay open until 6:00 for today so I could come in. I show up in my Civic at 5:10 and everything is closed and locked. The nice guys at the British imports car shop next door asked if I was there for a smog and when I explained that the man I spoke to earlier said he'd be there until 5:30 or 6:00, they just shook their heads and said, "Eh, that's Tom..." Thanks a lot, Tom. I will take my $50 somewhere else. read more

I've been coming here for the last several years. Tom definitely takes care of his customers. It's a small place that's a little hidden and just a short hop, skip and jump from Colorado Blvd. Usually there is no wait when I come and I'm usually in and out in less than 30 minutes. His pricing is pretty good too. $40 SMOG + $10 for the certificate while some other places offered to charge me $58-60. Will definitely be coming back for many more years. read more

They have very good customer service, and are very friendly ! They helped me with my car trouble very promptly, I will continue coming here.
