Was definitely not my favorite visit to Al's Pizza. We stopped in using a Clipp certificate. The restaurant itself was very clean, well organized, and inviting. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating, and we were able to sit wherever we preferred. She gave us plenty of time to look over the menu, and service overall was above average. We ordered two waters, a glass of wine, and a large 16-inch vegetable pizza, which was priced at $28 -- a bit on the higher side. Everything seemed fine until the pizza arrived. After a few bites, we both noticed an unusual taste. After some process of elimination, we realized it wasn't the sauce but the diced tomatoes on top. They tasted off, as if they may have been past their prime. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was subpar, even though the service was above par. Overall, I'd rate the experience a 2.5, but I'm giving it a 2 in hopes they improve. read more

I decided to go here for lunch today, being that I was in the area. I managed to find a parking spot upon arrival. The food at this location is always good every time that I go here. Today I decided to try out their stuffed shells with marinara sauce and garlic bread. The stuffed shells were very good and flavorful and went well with the sauce. Shoutout to our local community heroes! We have a love for good pizza! We are proud to say we found a great pie! Our standard pizza is double pepperoni and extra cheese. This pizza has great cheese pull and the crust is a perfect toasty base! We get the meatballs for our appetizer. The marinara sauce is balanced and delicious. The mozzarella is a lovely melty indulgence atop these huge meatballs! The meatballs have a soft and tender texture that makes them easy to enjoy. The pizza is always great, perfect crust. The mozzarella sticks - very comparable to Arby's except $10. The salad - not much more than lettuce but small and expensive. Stromboli - not impressive. Haven't tried the pasta yet! The girls working are always sweet but the manager guy always seems annoyed especially if you use coupons but it's not like I'm dining in so I don't care. Walking into Al's Pizza, we were happy to find a well thought out, contemporary interior that has comfortable seating, attractive light fixtures, and interesting decorative features such as "wooden" beams. We were greeted upon entering, and told that we could sit anywhere we liked, which gave us lots of options as the restaurant only had 2 other occupied tables! We selected a booth near a window, sat down, and while the table was clean, we discovered that the booth seats were not. Our waitress was friendly, but we felt she was anxious to get our order, serve us, and get us out! After telling her that we needed a few minutes to look at the menu, we ordered an appetizer of garlic parmesan wings, a small house salad, and a medium mushroom, garlic, and pepperoni pizza, expecting the food to come out in that order. Instead, she brought everything at once. After we had barely started eating, she asked if we wanted a box to take the pizza home. She tried to remove my salad plate while I was halfway through it. Maybe if there were more customers to keep her busy, she would have backed off a bit? The wings were crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside, but the garlic parmesan sauce was very weak-tasting. I could taste some garlic, but I think they totally forgot about the parmesan. The house salad was really good: fresh, crisp romaine lettuce (although I think that the menu listed baby greens) piled high with red cabbage, paper-thin onions, shredded carrots, tomato, and shredded mozzarella cheese. The salad dressings, unfortunately, were thin and watery. I had ordered creamy Italian, and my hubby, the Bleu cheese. The pizza was just okay. The sauce had a slightly sour, acidic taste, and the crust tasted as though it was made from Bisquick. On the plus side, the toppings were plentiful. Is a cold beer too much to ask for? And straight oil for salad dressing? The first one, not going to hold this one on our server Ellen. The beer (draft) I ordered was simply not cold, which I kindly requested to send back for another that might be colder. The second one was not any better. Isn't that beer serving 101? If it's not cold, or at least kinda cold, don't serve it! We ordered two antipasto salads, which came out fresh made, good quality, and a healthy portion. It came with oil & vinegar dressing on the side. However, instead of dressing it was served with straight oil...no vinegar, no seasonings, just oil. How did we know right! Both salads ruined. The AL's I visited was on Philip's highway but this review can serve to shed light on both this location and the one in the Riverside area. The booths and tables are tight. I understand a restaurant wanting to maximize capacity but when a customer is squeezed into a table or booth and feels like the table beside her is less than an arms distance away, it's difficult to hear your company or talk about anything juicy. No complaints with the pizza but then again, it's really hard to find fault with pizza. But the spaghetti is a sad dish. In one word.... bland. This is an Italian restaurant. There needs to be some fresh herbs, some quality pasta, and some sauce that doesn't taste like it's out of a bottle. If I wanted that, I'd make my own horrible spaghetti at home. Sticky. The tables and booths always have a sticky feeling to them. It kinda grosses me out and I can't say for sure but I feel like my feeling ill the next day was because I forgot to wash my hands immediately when I left the restaurant. I did enjoy the side salad; it had just the right amount of onions, tomatoes, and dressing. Our server was very accommodating and attentive. AL's has different specials during the week, so it might be worth visiting for discounted wine and a dollar slice but it's not a "go-to" restaurant anymore. read more

Went into ALS Sunday evening ordered a pizza took over 30 minutes to get the pizza gentleman brought it out - the tray the pizza was cold . The pizza was cold I said the pizza is not hot he felt the tray and said you want me to throw it back in the Owen ? I said well we have already waited 30 minutes for the pizza we were hungry we told him no we did not want to wait another 30 minutes. In the mean time a party of 6 we're complaining amongst each other. Papa has not got his lasagna yet. They were completely finished with their pizza Kim the server brought to their table earlier. We noticed a sub that sat under the heat lamp for 22 minutes. I wonder who's food that was come on. You've got to do better than this. You're gonna lose business, your staff advises they were backed up. How can you back up a pizza that sat on the shelf with no heat lamp as we sat there and watched it. There's no communication amongst the workers I work in a restaurant business That food would not have sat up there that long I would've taken it out for somebody. This is a disgrace. This is your business an employee can make or break a business. Remember that. Boy the health department needs to come in there to see how long this food sits before it is served. We should not have to ask for hot food. We should not have to ask to have our tea refilled. We should not have to ask for silverware. Certainly not the worst pizza in Jax but by no means the best! Since I moved to Jax in 2003 I've tried the so called "Best in Jax" three times and never was I impressed. Even after the first time in 2004 I was willing to try it again, but no luck. Now in 2022, the same, it hasn't gotten any better. In fact this last purchase of a large pizza only half was consumed & the rest was fed to our dog but she didn't even love it...ate the crust only! (we were a little hungry) The zucchini fries were SO good. Let me warn you, they are breaded pretty thick and deep fried, but oh so good! Served with BOTH ranch and Marinara sauce. Perfect for the three of us. Then out come the pizzas....piping hot looking so fresh! The veggie was spot on, even the broccoli had a crisp snap! But all the toppings: black olives, broccoli, fresh spinach, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, and Roma tomatoes were ripe! The Italian: Ham, salami, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, banana peppers, topped with a swirl of pesto was to die for! This pizza made me glad I visited Al's again! My husband loves this place. Says they've the best Margarita pizza and mussels. Though somewhat of a franchise, their flavors taste very small business like. The picture is off the pizza, barbecue wings, fried zucchini (my favorite). I recommend eating in to get the full flavors of the food. We eat at Al's all the time but were so disappointed with our most recent experience. Not only did it take around 45 minutes to get our food but the waitress never said anything to us about why until right before we got our pizza and then told us the printer had stopped working. They did give us a large to try to make up for it. The pizza was not very hot. We then were not told the kitchen would be closing despite the fact that we heard the waitress tell the table next to us. The whole reason we came was for zeppolis. We then told the waitress we wanted zeppolis and she said she had to see if the kitchen was still open at 8:44 p.m. She came back and said it wasn't open. As we were leaving we saw people still without food. The kitchen staff was also extremely loud and we even heard some cursing. Not the experience we hoped for. We like this Al's! Newer remodel which is nice and we've always had great service here. We have a small dog and they've let us bring her into the front seating area while we wait for our to-go order and everyone is extremely friendly here. I ordered the huge thick pizza the other night and was a little disappointed. Thick pizzas have cooking problems with cooking the insides enough before the top burns. It was really undercooked in the middle. I would say the green peppers were raw and never got hot. I was hungry and ate it. The next day I cooked the leftovers in the oven for a bit to cook the insides. It was good then. If they worked on cook times and made sure they were done it would be better. 2-3 times they have been like that. Nice people, thinner pies were good. read more
