If zero was an option that's what would be most fitting. Went there with my in- laws. we were seated, followed by 4 other families who got seated after us. our order was also taken before those other families who were seated after us. we sat there and watched each family get there drinks and meals before we even got water at out table. the service was so bad that after 45 minutes of waiting just for drinks we decided to leave. As our "server" was no where in site we got up and proceeded to leave. the owner asked what the problem was and as my husband explained what happened that waitress comes flying out of the kitchen trying to hit my husband, yelling and screaming at him. The waitress was restrained by the owners husband but continued to scream. This place was so bad that we also had to get the police involved simply because the waitress didn't know how to do her job! both my brother and I went to train there for a job. Its completely disgusting and unsanitary, they smoke in the basement around all the food, which i've witnessed, then my brother witnessed the chef drop a huge chunk of meat on the ground, pick it up (not even sanitize it) and cook it. Worst diner experience. For starters our waiter took our drink orders then left for the day. We sat for ten minutes before a new waiter came over to take our order. Mind you there was only one other couple in the whole diner. The food was not seasoned at all. The steak was over cooked. I sent it back. And didn't want to get something else. I didn't even get an apology from the manager. My dinner came with a complimentary soup and salad which they weren't shy about charging me for since they couldn't charge me for the steak. If I could give negative stars I would!! This is the second time we've been here and we though maybe the first time it was bad service because they were new. However, the waiter we had again I believe his name is Mike is the worst waiter we have ever had. He is extremely rude and very nasty. He makes the business very bad and we will never come here again. We are going to let friends and family know to not come here because the experience again was awful!!! It's too bad when you have decent food and prices but have a horrible staff member that make a customer feel they way this man did we will not be returning here and will make sure to let the community know not to come waste their money here. Excellent Food .... Excellent Service. We have been there 3 times already. Food has always been made to perfection. We had shoddy service the first 2 times we went but had a very nice waiter I think his name was Dan or Danny. He was our waiter and was extremely pleasant our last visit. He offered us a wonderful dessert that was made fresh and was more than attentive when it came to service. Once again I cannot stress enough the quality of the food and how well it is prepared. Excellent food, reasonable prices, quick service. I stopped by this diner while traveling thru NJ on business and had a great experience. I highly recommend. Great for families, business lunches, traveling alone or with friends. i had the piping hot Greek avgolemono chicken soup, a Wayne wrap with a side of waffle fries and a slice of strawberry cheesecake for dessert. One of my colleagues had pancakes, a fluffy egg white omelet with tomato an pepper and a side of hash browns. He was glad they offer breakfast all day. My other colleague had the Israeli salad, which was comparable to what you would find in a city bistro. We each had a steaming cup of coffee that was delicious and I also ordered a small frosty chocolate milkshake to go for the road. Overall we really enjoyed our experience at the Alps Diner and the bill was surprisingly low. This place is right off the highway and was near the LaQuinta hotel where I was staying on business. Really glad I stopped and tried this place. Plus the service was delightful and very friendly. i loved the 50s diner decor. This place is absolutely horrible. Like many others I have read, my food has hair in it, it was clearly an eyelash or a short hair. I did not finish after it was noticed. The French Toast was covered in Raw Egg and visibly not cooked and soggy. How do you ruin French Toast? The tables, restrooms, floors, and window ledge were either sticky, dirty, had crumbs, or just smelled. We paid and expressed all the above to the cashier. Although we got an apology, nothing was offered as replacement or compensation. I actually took her to my table, asked her to sit in our booth, pointed all the dirt, crumbs, and sticky residue. She said sorry, we pay people to clean. Well pay more, check more often, follow up or something. We were 2 of maybe 7 people inside. Needless to say from my experience and the other many negative reviews I would have to say they will never see us again and others who feel brave then you have been warned by me and several others. With RT23 filled with so many diners, we will next time travel up a ways and stick with what we know is good. Being a native of NJ for 50 years I am sad to say this is considered a diner. My boyfriend and I were hungry after a comedy show in Jersey and we're looking for someplace quick to eat that had a good selection so we chose Alps Diner. Little did we know the diner closes at 10pm unlike most diners. We arrived at 9:55pm and were sure we would be told they're closed. But we weren't! The owner greeted us greatly and welcomed us right in even though they were about to close! I was like wow what service! I ordered the grilled chicken panini with fries and the food was A+! The prices were reasonable also and the service outstanding! Very friendly staff and didn't even Rush us out the door and said take our time. Very pleasant visit with great food and great employees. Awful place. How's that for an opening statement. My son saw the "new" diner and wanted to go. We went that weekend & it seemed to be a decent atmosphere. That was the best part of the experience. My three children ordered chicken tenders, as they always do. I ordered a tuna melt & my wife ordered a salad. The waiter came back - they didn't have chicken tenders only fried chicken. The tuna melt was barely warm. The salad was decent. The chicken dinners were frozen inside. The waiter said they would fix them. My daughter was disgusted & wanted to change her order. Here's where it gets even worse. He had the manager come over & he abruptly said we couldn't do that so she ordered a burger & I told him to just wrap the chicken to go. The burger was OK. As we were leaving I noticed the people at the table behind us had left 6 chicken dinners hardly touched. How do you mess up deep frying frozen chicken. This place is beyond terrible. We will NEVER go back & I strongly warn everyone to avoid this place like the plague. The prices were not reasonable to boot. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I only use Yelp to look at reviews, but in this case I will never step foot in Alps Diner again. Not that this was the overall issue, but quesadillas are fajitas supposedly? When I tried to get the waitresses attention she wouldn't come over to the table, but just stared and had a face on. I pointed at my dish and mouthed that it wasn't what I ordered she finally came over and told me she'd just charge me less. I politely told her I didn't want quesadillas and ordered something else. 10 minutes later she brought out the same quesadillas, cold, with steak and chicken and said oh this is how the fajitas come! Stopped in here about 8:00 on Thursday night. Sat at the counter. Really liked the contemporary square pendant lighting above the counter. Kind of a "groovy" look. My waitress was very nice and was training another girl. When I placed my order for an open face hot roast beef sandwich, she asked me how I wanted the beef cooked. That was weird?? I explained to her that the meat for these sandwiches aren't cooked to order. 10 minutes later she serves the before dinner salad, entrée and sides at the same time. I was eating from 3 plates. The sandwich was served with no gravy and the waitress had to bring some in a separate cup. Despite some of the negative reviews, this meal wasn't bad. Sandwich, broccoli, fries and the salad were good. The only odd thing was the beef gravy tasted like it was seasoned with curry powder. Came here during a snow storm since it was the only place open. Should have known then it was a sign. We were the only ones in there. I ordered tea and it came with a mushroom in it (gross). Then my omelette came out and it was RAW. Not undercooked... Raw. It was snotty eggs. Really an issues since I was pregnant at the time and need eggs cooked throughly. My husband got a Greek omelette and it was missing half of the ingredients so they had to take that back too. You would think they would have least taken the tea off of the bill. Nope! Would not go here again if it was the last place on earth. Surprised it's still open. read more

Been here a few times for a quick lunch during the week. There is rarely a big crowd so we liked being able to be in and out. The last time we went was a nightmare. My wife found a hair in her honey mustard and nothing was done! She was disgusted. My daughter is a fan of onion soup. It was exactly how she likes it - cheesy. The sweet potato fries where a hit was well - my son couldn't stop taking mine. My parents and I would always come to this diner. About two weeks ago we came, paid our bill and we're talking to a friend we saw. The waiter then came over, embarrassing my parents saying "did U pay your bill?" When my father did, but the waiter seemed to not be able to find it. He proceeded to then make my parents stand and wait for 10 minutes, found the bill and accused my dad of then not leaving a tip. We have never had an experience like this, so insulted and upset and I am in shock at this horrible service. We will never be dining here again. read more

It's a coin toss whether or not the food here will be any good, no consistency with quality. I almost always order An omelet when I go to a diner - it's usually a sure thing. The last few times I've been here, the omelet has been dry and tasteless ( I order feta or Californian when I'm at alps). Once I complained and was told there was a new chef. So I came back and it was the same - I guess they kept the chef. Owners are very friendly, service is meh. Waiter usually gets at least one thing wrong. And when does a restaurant ever serve the ends from the loaf of bread for your toast? There's a diner on every corner in NJ. I don't plan on going back to this one. read more

Ordered for delivery. Delivery showed up missing two items paid by credit card. Delivery guy said 'sorry that is all they gave me'. Got call from restaurant later saying sorry, there were two delivery orders and they gave my items to the other person and they owed me?!? They owed me??? They didn't refund me, I don't extend food credit folks. Never again will I order from them, I'd advise to look elsewhere unless you can get them to give you meal and tell them you owe them for it. Just insult to injury that the Mac and cheese was strangely chunky and flavorless. Neither my son who I ordered it for nor my dog would eat it. Just terrible. read more

The owner was extremely nice and welcoming, and made a point to learn our names, and he even comped us a soup and some peas and carrots just because it was our first time. Our waiter was really funny and nice. The menu isn't very extensive for a diner, but the food was great. I got tilapia francaise, and it was fantastic! I'll be ping back every Sunday from now on with my mom because the service and the food. read more

First visit to the Alps Diner. What a pleasant surprise! Staff friendly & attentive. The meals arrived quickly. Nice to see that they offered an option to potatoes with breakfast. The grits were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Eggs were nicely cooked, hot, not greasy. Hamburger was cooked as ordered (medium/rare) and the roll was fresh. Had a great dinner last night. The daily specials are definitely worth it. Delicious cream of turkey soup. And the dinner is with salad and desert also. Choice for desert for me was the chocolate cake. Beef stroganoff over noodles had plenty of gravy and was enough for two of us to share. And the kids dinner was a generous size also. read more

This place is terrible. They deliberately overcharged me by about ten dollars and then refused to change it on the check. They have also overcharged several family members. If you need to go here, read your check carefully because they will try to rip you off. But there are diners every ten feet in this state so just go somewhere else. read more

Due to the anticipated wait on Father's Day at the Pompton Queen, Park Wayne, Monarch or Wayne Hills diners we chose to try the "new" Alps Diner. It was a disappointing choice. They were totally overwhelmed by the volume of business on this Father's Day. The unpreparedness included......long waits for orders to be taken and food to be brought to the tables, all tables were not completely stocked for breakfast (no, jelly, no syrup, no salt & pepper (I had to harvest these items from other tables), no one returned to the table with more/fresh coffee (although not a cup of coffee that you would want seconds), sides of meat ordered with egg dishes were missing (when they finally brought it to the table, after we had brought it to their attention, the bacon was undercooked), one of the omelets that was ordered was prepared incorrectly (it was returned to the kitchen which prepared another omelet incorrectly-that person in the party decided not to go for round three-so as not to leave feeling hungry she shared some of the food from her husband & kids plates), no host, manager, waiter, waitress came to our table to ask how we were doing. Not sure how they do on "normal" days but on this particular day they let some "dads" down. Probably won't be making a return trip!! read more
