I've been a loyal customer here for nearly five years. From dry cleaning to buying jackets, getting items repaired, and even having clothes custom made, I've always trusted their work. Recently, I ordered 5 custom shirts with my initials, specifically requesting French cuffs. There must have been some miscommunication because the first batch didn't have them. No problem--I brought one of the shirts back, handed it to them, and asked for 5 more of the exact same shirt but with French cuffs. I was told that wouldn't be an issue. What I received was nowhere near the same. The fabric and color don't match--the originals had some stretch, making them comfortable and easy to move in, while the new ones are stiff and restricting. The collars are different too: the originals had slots for removable collar stays, but the new ones came with flimsy built-ins. On top of that, the sleeves are slightly too long and missing the gauntlet button on the placket. I even tried wearing one, thinking maybe I could live with it, but at the end of the day it's simply not what I ordered or paid for. When I calmly explained the situation, expecting they'd just correct the mistake, I was met with indifference and a lack of accountability. I was even told I must have chosen the wrong fabric--something I never did, as I clearly handed them the original shirt to replicate. Even the person I spoke with admitted the shirts were completely different, yet they refused to make it right. As a small business owner myself, I know mistakes happen. But when it comes to bespoke items, refusing to fix an obvious mistake is unacceptable. Unfortunately, they've lost my business for good. read more

I had an evening gown brought in for alterations 4 days before an event. I tried it on with shoes the height I would be wearing with the gown. He measured? Marked? Pinned ? All the areas to be adjusted. It costs $126 for alterations. The style was a simple flowy one shoulder gown. The primary alterations were tightening the bust and bodice. Then hemming. I didn't try it on when I picked it up... I know...I should have. Evening of event, I put it on. It was a disaster! Still too long and so loose at the bust and bodice I had to wear a duster over my dress, and still had to pull it up all evening. It looked horrible. I was self conscious all evening. I take responsibility for not doing my due diligence and trying it on before I left the shop. HOWEVER, there is NO WAY he altered it according to the fitting we did. If I could give them less than one star I would absolutely do so. I came to this place 3 times in one day for Charlie who is apparently the seamstress / manager of the place ONLY because when walking by someone raved about how they good they were. My services included; 2 men's suits for alteration and cleaned, 1 ladies shirt (which they said because it was long they were charging me the price for a gown). I should have left right then. Also, 1 ladies skirt, and 2 ladies suits. Upon picking up my items a few days later, I noticed the white on the skirt looked yellow (this was a black and white skirt, pictures attached.) This made me open up the plastic and inspect all the items. My blood boiled when I pulled my $250 skirt out only to find that it was COMPLETELY RUINED! the bottom of the skirt was turned a dirty yellowish tan and white. When I communicated my dissatisfaction, Charlie blamed the damage on the designer and said I should request a refund from them since they did not tell me the skirt could not be dry cleaned....ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This made me take all of the items out for inspections, good thing I did. The 2 white ladies' suits were still dirty, both men's suits were dirty, and the top they charged for a gown had not only not been cleaned but had new stains on it! When I again questioned about these pieces, Charlie proceeded to blame everything on me the customer, saying the items had old stain on them and should have been cleaned sooner. He did everything but take accountability. Ultimately, I got too frustrated and felt myself about to loose it. At that point, he said we will clean everything one more time. At this point, I felt like I had nothing else to loose. A day later, I pick up the items, of course the skirt was still ruined which was the one thing I was so upset about. He STILL continued to blame the designer. The total bill for services was $168 after he took $18 off. yes $18!!!!! THEN to make matters worse, after getting home...my brother tried his suit on and one sleeve is altered shorter than the other!!!! I AM COMPLETELY DONE WITH THIS PLACE.....DO NOT EVER COME HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR CLOTHES. it looks decent looking in, but this place is HORRRILE. the pictures do no justice for how horrible my skirt looks... read more

Brought my suit in for tailoring and they are professional and adjusts based on your wants and needs.

I've been going here for a long time. Till I had an issue, I got my wedding tux Taylor. It was too big after he tailored it so I try to get it tailored again. It's for him to make the adjustments. He wanted me to pay another $380 after I already paid them 388 then got Loud rude and nasty. But the other worker end up making the corrections, but my suit was too tight around the arms and legs. Ruined my wedding. Smh read more

I had a jacket that needed a snap repaired! Omgosh!! My girlfriend needed it by Sat to wear to an event. I was very worried about who to take it to. I called one place they said it would take 2-4 days. Oh my.....I did not have that kind of time, nor energy. So I called this taylor , he said "BRING it in!" I did just that. They fixed it!! Don't waste your money going here. My father took a couple items to this store to have cleaned. Before releasing the items he explained to the store that one of the items had fragile buttons. The lady who serviced him made note of that on the item. When he returned to pick the items up he noticed that a few buttons on the specific item with fragile buttons were missing. He requested that they fix the mistake and the guy totally ignored and became disrespectful and dismissed him. saying they aren't responsible for those type of mistakes. Now keep in mind this shirt wasn't cheap.So ,My father proceeded to ask for a partial refund and the guy became very rude. This place is not worth the hassle and money. read more

Terrible service, skirt hems were completely uneven. One had an almost two inch difference, and rather than admit mistake and provide a full refund was rude and blamed body shape for the uneven hems. Will NEVER go back there again. read more

Annnnd for my 300th review. We have a nice little gem of a cleaners tucked away in SE DC on Penn. Ave. This cleaners is great. The quality and workmanship is well worth the price. I've never been disappointed with anything. From the cleaning to clothing alterations. They do you good. They know their stuff, are friendly, very knowledgeable, and provide A+ service. The owner is a tailor and can craft to your size and tastes. There are suits for sale and plenty of "Look Books" on display to tantalize your inner fashionista. Unfortunately can't recommend this place. I brought an expensive designer dress to be tailored and although the fit was great, when I received the dress back, they had taken the designer label from the dress and said they "couldn't find it" and "didn't know where it was", which I don't believe... and how do you lose a label like that on a piece of the dress they weren't even supposed to touch. For reference, it was a Jason Wu dress and label was clearly on when I gave them the dress to do alterations. That's unacceptable since a label adds most of the value to a piece of clothing. I will still very much enjoy wearing it, but in doing that, they stole a piece of my dress and took hundreds of dollars. It is very unprofessional and it makes me question the integrity of the business they are running. Do not bring your clothes here for tailoring or alterations! They will fraud you! read more

I've been going to Alpha since they opened a couple years ago. I was excited to have a dry cleaner within walking distance of my home, an amenity people living east of the Anacostia River don't often have for most services. Every time I visit I'm greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff who show great appreciation to their customers. Since I began using Alpha I h lost a substantial amount of weight which has resulted in me having to get suits and other articles of clothing altered. Both cleaning and alterations are always done within the promised, reasonable amount of time and the work is top notch quality. Most times when I buy trousers, I must have them tailored in the seat in order to fit neatly. Finding a good tailor to do the alterations is very hard. Believe me, I have tried many and was very dissatisfied with the quality of their work. Several years ago, I found a good female tailor in Suitland, but during the COVID-19 pandemic she went out of business. So, after the pandemic my search for a good tailor started all over again. About 6 months ago, by happenstance, I was at the Penn Branch Shopping Center at the ATM machine and saw Alpha Custom Tailor and Cleaners. Through the window I saw two persons working diligently on sewing machines. I was very impressed with the way they were working on various articles of clothing. At that moment, I convinced myself to give them a try. So, I took two pairs of trousers which another tailor had altered but did not do a very good job on them. Alpha Custom Tailor and Cleaners did a superb job on them. To prove to myself this was not a fluke, I took two more pairs of trousers to them to alter. The result was the same, superb! Since that time, I have gone through my closet selecting pants, sport coats and suits for them to alter. They have always done an excellent job; I highly recommend them. read more

I went to Alpha to have some pants repaired for a seam that was becoming unstitched. The seamstress immediately took my pants from me to her sewing machine. Before she started to work, I asked her how much the repair would cost to avoid any unpleasant surprises. However, she surprised me when she told me just to put some money in her tip jar. I pulled out a $10 bill while she worked since that was how much I was prepared to pay before she asked for a tip. Even more surprisingly, when I gave her the $10 bill as a tip after she finished her work in less than five minutes, she said it was too much and gave me $5 back. I bought a white lace skirt that was too big so I went in to have my skirt altered. I'm very picky when it comes to altering. I've been to many other places but the alternation didn't come out as I requested. As referred by a good friend of mine, I decided to try Alpha. I was so amazed and thankful for the great outcome of my skirt. It fits me perfectly now and it looks better than the original. Thank you Alpha! You are the best! read more

This was my go to for dry cleaning and alterations, until today. I dropped off one skirt for hemming and another for cleaning. My two receipts were around $14 total. When I returned to pick up my items, I was told that they weren't ready. Which was ok since I live close by. Two days later I returned for pickup my order total came to $35!!! The guy knew he was wrong because before he rung me up he quickly crumbled up the receipts I gave him. I asked him to take the receipts out of the trash and show me the before price. That is what it took to get him to even acknowledge that he changed the price. "Hem is never $5" he explained with a receipt in his hand for $5 hem!!! Ummm maybe but, how about some fucking honesty and integrity about your mistake? He made no mention of the of the pricing error when I came in two days prior. Or, how about calling me since you already have my phone number? Nothing!!! Instead, he was very dismissive when I asked about it, as if he wasn't in the wrong.
