Delicious food!
Anna B.

We have been eyeing Alpaca since we moved to the area and have been wanting to come in and check it out. They did not disappoint! We ordered the fried rice Arroz Chaufa, a side of plantains, and a side of fries. We tried the Chi Cha Morda drink and it was good! Fruit punch with added spices but not hot. The ambiance was lively and colorful and a great place for a quick meal. Service when ordering was good! We had a great time and had leftovers afterwards!

Alpaca is one of my favorite restaurants! They have locations all around, and the food is always delicious. Personally, I love the green (spicy) and yellow (mayo, mustard?) sauces, which I put on my meal every time! The service is great, and I've never had a problem. It's a fast-casual restaurant with a couple of TVs and outdoor seating. You can't ask for more! I always bring guests here, and it never disappoints.

Broooooo.. I wanna open one of these on the west coast!! That chicken is to die for and the breast is not dry at all!! If I could I honestly would eat this for lunch for the rest of my vacation!! The plantains hit the spot and the aji sauces completed this meal!! I can't wait to come back and have this again. Not to many of these spots back home! Do not skip this spot!!

This was my first time to this Alpaca location. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered Arroz Chaufa and plantains, which was cooked to order. I highly recommend trying the Areoz Chaufa. It is a fried rice dish with chicken and sausage. In all honesty, the dish slaps! It's one of my new faves. I do want to add that one of their card payment machines was not functioning properly, which led to me using my card on two different machines. The first machine kept showing an invalid message, but the payment went through on the second machine. This happened to people in line behind me as well. I ended up being charged twice after reviewing my bank account. I hope that they are able to fix this issue before my next visit.

This was my maiden voyage to the Alpaca Restaurant and manager Lenny warmly greeted me upon entry. Upon mentioning that this was my first visit, he kindly guided me through the menu options, including a few free samples. It was much easier to decide after a couple of taste tests, although truth be told, I then wanted a little bit of everything. Thinking about the waistline, however, I decided to order the 1/4 rotisserie chicken with 2 sides, namely green beans and yucca fries (see photo). The chicken was moist and flavorful, with just the right amount of seasoning. It hinted toward sweet but not too much so. I normally avoid eating chicken skin but this was too tempting so I indulged and enjoyed a couple small sections. Thankfully the flavor permeated the chicken as each bite was as good as the one before. The item in the photo that looks like a small cookie is tostanos, aka, green plantains. These are smashed plantain (banana) pieces that are deep fried. Lenny said these were delicious with the garlic and salt topping normally sprinkled on them, but since I'm allergic to garlic, he made me two without the "house" seasoning. I elected to dip them in their yellow sauce. It is a little bit sweet and reminded me of a mild honey mustard. Adding it helped bring out the flavor of the plantains. My favorite sauce, however, was the green sauce. And yes, they've named the sauces based upon their primary color. The green sauce was a purée-like texture but, unlike the yellow, this one had a kick which built stronger the more I ate. I enjoyed it most on my yucca fries (think thick French fry). As I was finishing, Lenny brought me out a (generous) serving of Arroz Chaufa. It is diced chicken, sausage, egg, rice and onion (see photo). Twas another delicious offering but I was filling up at this point so it became take home after my initial couple of bites. It came with a small side salad. As for a dressing, I encourage you to ask for the cilantro vinaigrette. Made primarily of cilantro and vinegar, it was simple but tasty. Overall, I highly recommend you give the Alpaca Restaurant a try if you are in the mood for something a little different, but not too different!!

alpaca is a great chain restaurant that you can go to for a quick meal that does not cut corners. the chicken is always moist and tender and the sides are just as delicious. the rice was cooked perfectly and the chicken was roasted very well. my only "complaint" was that you can tell the fries and yuca were fried in the same oil. not complaining since i also love yuca but when you want fries, you want to taste potato. staff were friendly and quick to assist. would come again to this location.

Alpaca has amazing delicious food and if you have yet to go here, you should definitely go! The staff is always friendly and the taste of the food is consistently yummy. Everything I have eaten there has been flavorful and has yet to disappoint. If you ever go and see there is a long line, don't fret as the line moves at a decent pace and is worth the wait. I like that you have the option to buy bottled Mexican cokes and bottled Jarritos. As a family with allergies, I appreciate how easy their allergen menus are to read and access and we have never had an issue eating here.

Qtr dark chicken with plantains & cole slaw.

Lucked out being the first person through the door today. Service was quick, which was great, cos I was hungry! Delicious chicken! Flavorful and perfectly spiced. The yellow dipping sauce goes well with it. Love the plantains and the bit of crispness they have on the edge. Cole slaw really hits the spot to tie it all together. The only thing missing was the Inca cola at the soda fountain like the Morrisville location has. Fingers crossed they still have it over there cos it's fantastic!

Stopped at this Alpacca location in Apex and just like the other locations this one was just as good and tasty. The chicken is always moist and tender and it's cooked to perfection. The black beans were very flavorful and just as good as I would make at home. I really enjoyed the green beans they're cooked nicely and they are flavorful and have onions in them. The location was clean and well taken care of and the stations for silverware and drinks were organized and maintained.

I've never had Boston Market before but Alpaca is what I would imagine a premium version of that would be. It's a fast meal since everything is prepped already, but if you want to dine in, you can order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. We stopped by on a Wednesday at around 5 to pick up some dinner. We ordered a whole chicken and another half. For the halves and quarter chickens, you get to pick white or dark meat, which I really appreciated because I'm a dark meat kind of gal. Each chicken, regardless of whole, half or quarter, comes with two sides. We did two regular sides - white rice and coke slaw, and two premium sides (add 50 cents) - maduros and yuca fries. Sauces are on the side and there's a green sauce that is a must. It's some kind of cilantro-y sauce that has a kick to it. The yellow sauce was Mayo-based, which was okay. We got the food to go and didn't eat it until maybe an hour or so later and everything still held up very well. It was enough food (with leftovers) for 4 adults and 3 kids. Overall, everything was great and seemed to be a crowd pleaser. I mean $21 for a whole Peruvian chicken AND sides? It would cost more time and money just to make it yourself. Highly recommend if you want a quick, delicious, and cheap meal.

Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Restaurant is a phenomenal place to grab a healthy lunch/dinner. The 1/4 White Chicken, white rice, and black beans all costed 11$ and was well worth the price. The amount of meat was easily over 8oz and very flavorful. Highly recommend and would definitely come back again.

I am Peruvian and I've eaten at the Mi Peru restaurant in Durham a few times and I always liked it, it was too far for me though. Once I found out another Mi Peru opened closer I had to try it. For starters the strip mall where it is located is not the nicest location. The restaurant itself feels a bit old and not very clean. I was about to leave but I decided to take a chance. We ordered a few dishes to share: ceviche, chicharron de pescado, arroz chaufa, aji de gallina and seco de res. And even desserts : Alfajor, tres leches and crema volteada. Food overall wasn't bad, I actually liked it, it wasn't amazing but not bad at all. The service on the other hand was terrible, there was a young guy and a young girl who had no idea how to wait tables, we were missing silverware, we had to ask for plates and glasses, .... That duo was a mess. They seemed too occupied flirting with each other than caring for the 2 tables that were occupied. Anyhow, when we got to bill I noticed that an 18% tip was mandatory !! 18 % for the terrible service I had received, that was really unfair. I paid over $180 for 5 adults and 2 kids and terrible service. Up until that point I was determined to leave and just give this place 3 stars . But then I decided to go to the bathroom and on my way to the bathroom there was a cockroach in the hallway, that was disgusting so I moved quickly into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom under the sink there was another cockroach !!! I almost threw up wondering how many cockroaches are probably running around in the kitchen!!! It is sad for me to post this as a Peruvian but I care more about the safety of the people and the reputation of the Peruvian food. My advice to the owners of Mi Peru.( the original ) which I respect. Don't destroy your brand, close the restaurant and fumigate it completely, then remodel it, clean it, hire better waiters and then reopen. Or pick a nicer location if possible. I am not coming back and will advise everyone I know not to go either.

I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I will be coming back tonight for dinner. Can't decide if I want the Seco de Res or the Lomo Saltado. Both staple dishes in Peru. Part 2 - so...I was too tired to go back for dinner. BUT, I did order in. I got the Papa à la Huancaina (so delicious, it tasted like I make at home). It is a creamy, Aji Amarillo cheese sauce over yellow potatoes. I would have liked it a little spicier, but I understand having to cater to the general public, so I'll let that slide. But the flavor was as good as you could get. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.

The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well-priced, whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. We almost always order the ¼ white meat chicken and pair it with two sides: usually white rice, maduros (plantains), or green beans. It's simple, but it's done extremely well every time. It also feels like we aren't eating super unhealthy when we pick Alpaca. The chicken is always tender and juicy, and the portions are generous for the price. What really completes the meal, though, are the sauces. Make sure to get both the yellow sauce and the green (spicy) sauce. They take everything to another level. The store was very cute, with a large stuffed llama near the check-out desk. The restaurant is chipotle-style. You choose a cut and amount of roast chicken. and then go down the line and pick out your sides and other goodies. For the price, you get a good portion. I got a half-chicken meal, dark meat only, with beans and French fries, as well as a chicha morada beverage. Their sauces are off to the side and self-serve, which I love. The roast chicken was delicious, so well-seasoned and tender. Honestly I did not need the sauce to eat it. The beans were smoky and I appreciate the fact that it was portioned separately to prevent the fries from getting soggy. The fries were not that fresh, and they had the skins on. I would not get these next time. The sauces were good but not mind-blowing. The green sauce in particular was sharp and salty but not flavorful. The orange sauce tasted mostly like mayo. However, again, since all the food was well-seasoned, I didn't really need the sauces. Alpaca is a great, quick, and healthy option for tasty Peruvian food. I would definitely come back for my quick fix, but I would probably skip the sauces.

Silverware and napkins are next to the drink fountains. The decor on the walls is awesome, a mix of heritage/Latin culture with obvious military support - it's nice to see that. FOOD: I chose the Arroz chaufa (which is Peruvian fried rice) and a side of Maduros (sweet plantains). The arroz came with a small side salad which included fresh lettuce, fresh tomato and cucumber. The rice had scallions, carrots, fried egg, chopped rotisserie chicken, all stir fried together on a hot wok, and served as a very generous portion. Over by the drink fountains you will find two special house sauces there - the yellow and the green one. Both packed a punch of flavor and one had a little extra spicy fire to it. I can imagine how delicious it is with the chicken. The maduros were delicious. I used some of the house green sauce to add some fire to the sweetness. So good! Honestly though, tons of flavor without even having to dip into sauces - same for the arroz! OVERALL: Like I said, 100 stars. This place was bomb!
