Fresh and made to order. Friendly staff who was very detail oriented asked if I needed a for or chopstick and offered ginger shoyu and wasabi. Convenient parking right out front. This is my new fave lunch spot. I got two California maki and two California hand rolls all under $20.
This is probably my favorite take-out sushi place in this part of town, and I live super close to it. I've lived in the area for over five years now, but didn't know about this spot, nor would I have sought it out, but a friend of mine took out from here for dinner and shared with me. She got the dynamite roll, which is a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna and a spicy hot sauce. It was stellar! I decided to take out from here prior to a beach day and got the dynamite roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna, natto, and vegetable hand roll and cucumber maki. I am only knocking down to four stars because I was less impressed with the food this time - the fish just seemed more obviously "previously" frozen (which of course I already knew given the prices), but we all enjoyed our sushi nonetheless. There is a huge menu so I'm looking forward to trying different items and it's nice to know I can get decent take out sushi so quick and close to my house. I'm looking forward to self soothing with sushi when I have a hard day and want yummy food that is quick, convenient, and delicious. What with it being sushi, it will definitely feel like a splurge without breaking the bank!
Support small local businesses! This aloha sushi location offers a large menu with generous portions, fresh tasty sushi, and very reasonable prices! The workers are kind to answer any questions and accept any modifications if needed. My family and I love their rolls- tuna, spam, philly, tamago, and more!! My fave is definitely the dynamite maki, which is a tempura rolled topped with spicy ahi and sweet chili sauce. They don't skimp out on the filling on their hand rolls! Located right next to the 711 on Nuuanu and has its own parking lot and some outdoor seating. Check them out for your sushi cravings!!
Great spot I discovered yesterday while I was in town. The prices are really good compared to most sushi places I've been to & the owners greeted me weight away & were very polite. I was able to get a bento and a musubi for $13 and it was pretty good. I'll definitely be coming back in the future & I highly recommend.
I placed a take out order here, and placing it was quick. They didn't ask for card or anything like that. Name wasn't needed also. When I got in, parking was super easy to get. It's a small shared parking lot with Aloha Sushi being at the bottom under the stairs. Cute little place, with the entrance & register being right there. Just one table avail inside & a table right outside, so not a place for dine in. The price was a bit pricey. I paid $6 something for 2 spicy ahi rolls. They only take care for $7 & up. The lady didn't greet or smile, just asked what I order. Had to wait a few mins for my order, so maybe a total time of 10 mins from my call in. Anyway, got the food, & it looked good. It was kind of disappointing because the spicy ahi roll was super plain. Just the ahi & spice. No cucumbers or anything. I was surprised because the price of it was too much for what I received. Ahi you could tell wasn't like fresh, it was prob pre frozen & was diced into cubes. I probably wouldn't have stopped by here if work didn't have me close by for a training. Anyway, it's a 4 stars for me, as I wish the sushi roll was at least a little more pleasant lol.
I'm going to call it. Aloha sushi has the best handrolls out of all the fast food "grab and go" places. Way better than 7/11 (no doubt!), and Kozo sushi. Most other places' handrolls are skinnier than Aloha sushi, with less ingredients. I ate a California roll at Kozo the day before I ordered the same roll at Aloha so I really feel like I can give them a solid comparison. Kozo's sushi rice was colder, making it seem less fresh. The avocado was non-existent. You might as well order a crab roll there. The sushi roll was thin, and after eating 2 rolls from Kozo, I was still hungry. Aloha sushi's California roll comes correct! It was stuffed so full of crab, avocado and cucumber, the seaweed wrapper busted at the seam! I could really taste all of the ingredients together. The rice was still warm and delicious. The roll was prepared super fast and the lady at the counter was very nice. She even gave me 2 napkins (I guess she could tell I would burst my roll and get sushi all over myself). Location is convenient, on Nuuanu avenue in a quiet little building with plenty of parking. I also saw burgers on the menu!
Love their maki rolls! Their maki rolls are made with a generous amount of ingredients and taste. I ordered a cali, egg, tuna, and shrimp tempura maki and they were all delicious. The shop is small but very clean. They also have some tables outside for customers. I had no problem with parking in their parking lot at night.
Really love coming to this location because service is always fast and friendly. Parking is always available. Prices are reasonable. Quality and quantity are decent. Please see pics.
A friend recommended we try this place for a late lunch since its kind of in our neighborhood, needless to say I was just a little hesitant with the reviews being either love it or loathe it. The owner was very nice as was her daughter who was doing homework. Of course they have all the essentials you would expect from a typical take-out sushi place like this with the exception of a number of Korean bowls and they serve burgers and fries lol. This has to be the only place that does this, and I will try it later. My friend and I shared a chicken and beef donburi and we each got our own order of the spicy nigiri (3 ct. per order). The chicken and beef don was really good no kidding and the portion was enough for two people and I can eat a lot. The chicken had a char and glaze to it and it was really soft, the beef was tender and flavorful and came with grilled onions. It was just chicken and beef over rice with a little furikaki but it had such great flavor, I was very impressed. The spicy ahi nigiri honestly reminded me of the spicy ahi nigiri at Sushi II in the Sam Sung Plaza. It was'nt the heavy mayonayze based creamy style of spicy ahi but rather a sharper spicier version that you find at more traditional sushi bars. The ahi tasted fresh and packed some heat that kind of snuck up on me. If their spicy ahi always tastes like this then this might just be my new favorite place. I took pics of what we ate and am certainly planning on coming back real soon.
What more could you expect from a corner sushi spot made with a brand new sushi chef from Japan? The food was excellent. I have tried the food from Aloha Sushi before in various locations and this has got to be the best yet. I tried various foods from the maki sushis such as inari to fancier rolls like their "French Kiss". This roll was rice and tobiko encrusted on the outside with shrimp tempura with lettuce in the middle. The tempura was not too crunchy nor flimsy; it was just right. The service excellent and although their English is not superb, their Japanese and Korean abilities were top notch. I can speak English and my Korean isn't too bad, but to be able to speak three is respectable! Although I am not a big fan of desserts, they have slush drinks for the kids. My kid brother (8 years old) enjoyed it so I hope your little ones enjoy it too! The parking lot is small, but they are a corner sushi spot, so I think it is fairly adequate for this place. So after reading this, I ask again, what more could you expect from a corner sushi spot? Good food? Check! Good service? Check! Good parking? Good enough! Then I guess just like the yelp description for five stars: Woohoo! It's good as it gets!" Cheers my fellow yelpers.
Lunch in Nu'uanu, Honolulu, Hawaii... Located right next to Nu'uanu Hair & Nails, this cozy shop is tucked in the corner of a two-story building. Aloha Sushi has several locations such as Waikiki, Airport, and Downtown. They are convenient, relatively inexpensive, and are mainly a takeout business. Service was efficient and helpful. I was asked if I needed chopsticks, wasabi, a receipt, or shoyu... I didn't need anything! I ordered the Lunch Bento and the Nigiri Dinner Bento to compare. They're the same price. They both have tamago, ahi, unagi, and tako. The dinner Bento had tobiko, salmon, and ikura while the lunch Bento had cucumber and maki sushi. Maybe I should return when I need to bring something for a potluck... my family would like it! read more

Service was really good here. The Korean owner took my order for a Maui platter that I wanted to take to my doctor's office for them to enjoy for the holidays. It's a good platter for 3 people or less IMO. It took them about 20 minutes to make my order since I had ordered it in store bc I wanted to see what the current prices were before ordering. I also made it a point to take photos for a more current pricing point to help yelpers like myself. Aloha Sushi has always been my go-to for party platters and was always a hit as an after school snack. I wish I had time to take a photo of my order today but I was in a rush to get them their lunch in time! Parking is in the back of the building there's about three customer stalls in the back on the left hand side of the building. I went around 11:39 AM and it was just me and one other lady in there but it started to fill up with ppl real fast due to it being lunch time! read more

Their food gave me FOOD POISONING. Specifically, the crunch don. Don't come here. I ate it at the store and I had a sore stomach moments later. Throughout the day the pain only got worse. I experienced diarrhea, fever, stomach pain, and chills. read more

This new Aloha Sushi is located next door to Kuakini/Nuuanu 7-Eleven and is housed in the red brick office building that has a beauty salon and travel agency for neighbors. Parking lot is kind of small, ten stalls plus a handicapped and reserved parking stall. Parking lot was fairly empty when I went which was nice for me. Be careful walking into the store itself because the flooring they installed is higher than the outside part of the store. I almost tripped. This place looks like a hole in the wall. If you have five people inside the store than it would be packed already. There is only one table with four seats for eating inside the store and three more tables outside. Never had alfresco sushi before, that's a first. First thing I noticed about the menu is the price. Looks kind of pricey to me, at least compared to the old location where the Nuuanu Walgreens is going to be. Plus I just paid $7.25 for a maki mono at Kozo Sushi at high rent prone Keeaumoku and they're asking for $8.99 for a similar type maki? Call me skeptical. They have a menu posted outside the store which is nice but I wish they would give descriptions of their maki mono. Would like to know what is a French Kiss, Kiss of Fire, Rock N Roll, BLTA maki, Volcano Maki, Crazy Seafood Maki, Tiger, Dragon, Rainbow, Spider, and Dynamite maki is. They have pictures inside but i'm near sighted and can't see too good. Anyways, as a creature of habit I decided to order the Spicy Ahi Tempura maki ($8.99+tax) which sounded like Kozo's Dragon maki. The cashier asked if I would like a free bowl of miso soup. For $9 sushi, of course I want free miso soup, so yes please! There was kind of a big order in front of me so there was a bit of a wait. Wasn't in a rush so no problem for me. I was tempted to get their iced coffee and a Nestle Tollhouse cookie. They have mochi ice cream too. Tempting, oh so tempting. The miso soup was really good. There's wakame, green onions and tiny diced tofu in the soup. Since I ordered it to go they put a piece of cardboard under the bowl to keep the heat off of my sushi. That was a nice touch. The Spicy Ahi Tempura maki is an 8pc uramaki sushi surrounded with toasted sesame seeds and enclosed with nori, spicy ahi, shrimp tempura, lettuce and cucumber and topped off with sriracha mayo. The lettuce and cucumber gave the sushi a nice crunch. The shrimp tempura was more plump than normal (thumbs up). The spicy ahi was also nice and chunky (don't think there was sesame oil in this one). Definitely different than Kozo's. Can't say who's better. Kind of a toss up but if I had to pick, I'm leaning towards Kozo because they have more ahi in it, but less rice. Free miso soup is a nice touch although don't know if it's part of their Grand Opening or if it's a regular occurrence. For 9 bucks I hope it is. 31 Yelps Review Challenge (27/31). read more

The new management by a kind and pretty owner has been just started. Rolls are great and the platter was good. Personally I like Rock'n Roll (Unagi roll) and spicy ahi bowl. I'll definitely come back. Parking is availa in the front. read more

Had lunch at this location a couple of times, food is tasty and fresh, self run by owners, only 1 cook and 1 cashier/order taker, limited seating inside to two people, outside has three tables to accommodate 6-8 total people and orders brought to your table. Expected wait time is approximately 15-30 minutes depending on the crowd, aloha. read more

New aloha sushi opened up since aloha sushi that used to be where the new walgreen is being built had to close down due to high rent...Ordered 2 kimchi spam rolls awesome!!! Lots of rice leaving me full and free miso soup for going over $8 :)... Will return again :D... read more

I pass by this little restraunt all the time and never tried it. Unfortunately today i decided to try. I had the mix donburi and the chicken was hard and the beef was like jerky. Ive had two bites so far and dread taking another. The sushi does not fare any better. It is not very fresh or high quality. The server was very nice and the miso soup was ok so i give it an extra star. read more

Aloha Sushi has been one of my favorite lunch places to go since working in Nuuanu. Their lunch bentos are consistently tasty for a reasonable price (under $9). The spicy ahi has quite a bit of kick to it which is enjoyable since I love spicy food. I do wish they gave more chicken katsu sauce and wasabi to go with the meal. The place is quite small so it is usually best to take-out. Overall, great lunch spot with reasonable prices and quality food. read more
