I had visited this restaurant before, so I decided to give it another try. We placed a to-go order and ended up waiting about 30 minutes for our food. The staff was friendly and courteous while we waited, which was appreciated. Overall, the food was just okay. Wow! Aloha Snacks is a Hawaiian fusion restaurant located in Virginia Beach. The storefront itself has indoor and outdoor seating with huge windows, plants and so much sun. It felt like I was entering an elevated beach shack the vibes were immaculate! One huge plus about this location is that they also have allocated parking, which I love! Now the food, I don't know what I was expecting but the flavors, the options, the variety blew me away. Stopped for a quick breakfast to share and got The Duke Breakfast Burrito which was a rolled seasoned tortilla stuffed full of sticky rice, pork belly, American cheese, eggs, fries, kimchi, mayo and gochuchang. We also got a side of fries and had to top everything off with a Malasada. Everything was phenomenal, I can't stop thinking about how yummy that burrito was, it had everything you could want a crunch, a bit of spice, sweetness, all of the above. The malasada was warm, fluffy and full of filling. The fries were basic waffle fries but I think they served as a classic side to the amazinf burrito. Overall, give this spot a try! My cousin, my husband, and I stopped into Aloha Snacks recently, and as a huge spam lover, I was so excited to try their spam musubi. It was tasty and I enjoyed it, but the spam itself was pretty thin and the spam-to-rice ratio felt off. My husband and I had some fries on the side, which were pretty good. My cousin ordered the salmon poke bowl and absolutely loved it. The employees were polite, we got our food relatively quickly, and I enjoyed the Hawaiian decor inside. First off the building is super cute. I love the very eclectic feel of the decor, very Hawaiian. The service was friendly and efficient. I got the loco mock which was absolutely delicious. Id eat it again in a heartbeat. And while the fries were good I dont feel like portion size warranted them being 8$. Came with a friend for her birthday dinner. Another friend had talked up their malasadas and considering she moved here from Hawaii barely a year ago, I figure she knows what she's talking about. We both got Loco Mocos, mine without egg. She loved hers. Mine was ok, edible, hot, the rice was perfectly cooked and just sticky enough to make for easy eating with chopsticks even when covered in gravy. While well salted, I somehow still found it a little bland. You get one decent size burger patty and one slice of spam. She got the guava lemonade- and loved it. I tried it even though guava isnt my thing - if it had been strawberry, id have loved it- sweet and tart and well flavored. We both got a Malasada- Nutella and Guava. Well sized, fried well, and pretty, but again, not something I would come back for unless someone else absolutely had to come here. The guys are nice, friendly and make sure my friend who has a food allergy is safe to eat here. The actual building is small, but quiet, so it is easy to chat with your companion, which is lovely. Conveniently located right next to my mom's apartment, who I was visiting. Very cute decor; colorful with lots of plants. The staff were all very nice and friendly. I got the mana burger and lumpia. The burger itself was delicious! Just a tad on the salty side, but still very good. The fries on the side were an extremely small serving, maybe 4-5 fries in total. They also tasted a bit old. The sauce they came with though was very yummy. I also got lumpia. $9 for two rolls seemed excessive. These were okay. They were bigger than other lumpia ice had in the past. The filling was also a bit salty. Wouldn't get the lumpia again, but the burger was very good. read more

What a disappointment. We ordered the hawaiian cowboy and poke nachos. The hawaiian cowboy was in essence a hamburger smothered in bbq sauce and topped with spam. All in all, it was way too salty and saucy. The small number of fries that came with it were way overcooked. The poke nachos were the worst. It was more like 4 crisps on top of two spoons of overcooked rice doused in soy sauce, with one spoon of salmon cubes and one spoon of tuna. This was topped with some kind of cream cheese goop. It was honestly terrible but the only reason we ate it was because the measly bowl was $25. The service was slow and took forever to get the food once we ordered. Here in town for a wedding in the fall (off season). We wanted something quick, healthy and walking distance from the beach. This place is 3 blocks away, easy walk. The owner (former high end chef) opened this place up 7 years ago. Service is very friendly as the owner took our order. He was very friendly and gave us cool stickers. Despite the friendly service and good vibes, we left slightly disappointed on our end unfortunately. We ordered the farmers poke, tsunami poke, musubi, and an Ube malasada. The savory items had familiar and yummy flavors however the rice in our poke seemed tough and undercooked. Like the haole rice you get as a side dish at Chili's or something. The spam musubi was okay. I could have done without the saucy frills and just had a better spam to rice ratio (more 1:1 than 1:3) The Ube malasada was opposite. Great texture, both the donut and the filling but either the Ube filling had turned or they gave us guava instead (for our sake let us pray that it is the latter). This was probably the most disappointing as it was our sweet treat at the end of a meal. When you're expecting to taste Ube it's quite shocking to take a bite and taste something tangy and tart. Overall, there was good and bad. Not sure if it's a "would go again" but a possible "worth a try." read more

This lately has been my go to spot working out at the Oceanfront. Tucked hidden away across from the BP gas station on Laskin Rd and Baltic is this gem of a restaurant. The menu has a good mix of Hawaiian favorites like loco moco, spam musubi, and poke. While also introducing a fusion of new favorites like Bulgogi cheesteak, Banh mi burger, Korean fried Chx wrap, and Collard noodles. I've had the pleasure of trying a few of these entrees already as I have been here a few times. Each and every time has been a deliciously new experience. For instance, that Korean friend chicken wrap introduces Kimchi, fried chicken, and a gochujang glaze which gives it a unique bit spicy, a bit funky, salty and savory taste. There is really nothing like it that I have tasted before. My absolute go to item on the menu. The server there Olivia is so nice and helpful especially if you're not sure what to order. The inside of the restaurant has a nice chill vibe to it that is a great representation of what the Oceanfront represents. Reasonable pricing and the ability to order through drive thru is a plus! Ambiance - very strange place. A bit like a "depanneur". Dark inside and there were people/or owners or their relatives sitting and staring at me. Way too long staring and uncomfortable- very uncomfortable. Service- you need to go inside to order the food. There is no check in by anyone to see if food is good or not. Food- had noodle in Hawaii. I thought would be the same. The noodle ramen tasted sour along with a bitter taste. The menu says chicken but instead i have got pork belly ( slices of pork with all the fat only- these are parts that i would normally throw away and not eat). Finally made it to Aloha Snacks and I'm glad we did -- this place has been on my list for a while. The whole spot is a vibe, definitely giving laid-back island energy. Service was great -- relaxed atmosphere but the staff was friendly and happy to answer questions about the menu. We ordered the Spam musubi, loco moco, and the Korean chicken wrap, and every single item was delicious. Oh! And an iced coconut latte-- so good! First time stopping in while some friends and I were hanging near the beachfront. I am glad we stopped in! I'm always a bit wary with places like this in that the prices could be a bit much for what you get but Aloha Snacks delivers unique and quality food for the cost. I ordered the Hawaiian Cowboy burger. This double smash patty burger also features a slice of crispy spam and pineapple in between. This was honestly one of the better burgers I have had in the 757. The flavor combo of the pineapple, burger and spam was delicious. I didn't really notice the huli sauce but I'm sure it added to the whole experience. 10/10 would recommend this burger. The dirty fries were ok. The queso and spam were great but front loaded on top of the other fries. They are on a plate in the featured picture because we found it easier to dump out of the larger cup to share. My only grief with the fries is that they are on the saltier side. Whatever seasoning goes on there, while tasty, is an additional saltiness to the dish. Regardless they are still good. We also got a couple cocktails as it was the tail end of happy hour. The painkiller was very good! My friends had the pineapple squeeze. It was good but I much preferred my painkiller. This was a pleasant find in VA beach! It was about a ten-minute walk from the Hilton. We ordered the Moco Loco, Lumpia, Musubi and Tuna bites. I was very satisfied with the Moco Loco - the gravy was so good and made this dish. My daughters devoured the Musubi - rice tasted fresh and who doesn't love Spam! I did like the Lumpia- but wish it had more beef inside it. For the tuna bites, you need to eat it right away or it will become a soggy mess if it's in a take-out container. This was our favorite beach eats and we will return when we are back. Need to try out their other dishes. The owner was very nice and welcoming. read more

This is the new chicken pad Thai and it has just missed the mark for me. It's a bit too spicy and lacks the true flavor that i look for in a pad Thai. The noodles aren't cooked through and cannot stand on their own. Even the sauce feels way too peanutty for a pad Thai. Typically I order the bulgogi fries and even those tend to have way too much sauce to fry ratio. The lumpia are the best in town! The chef / owner actually beat Bobby Flay a few years back with his lumpia! They also have great sandwiches and are always coming up with the creative new menu items. The shrimp poke bowl saved this review. Service was not the best. And we waited 30 minutes for two Poke Bowls and they were not busy at 2PM. The two bowls alone costed $24 and $20 with $5 tax made it a $50 meal. Luckily, the shrimp poke bowl was very good in comparison to the tuna, and the ingredients were fresh for both. Not sure if we were just extremely hungry though since we waited so long. Nonetheless, I'll give this spot a fair 3 stars. In my honest opinion, this was a good attempt at Hawaiian food solely based on the quality/taste of their food. I was born and raised in Hawaii, so I know I'm a little biased and even though it's not my favorite Hawaiian food, it's still tastes good! The service is super friendly and approachable. The location is very conveniently located near the Oceanfront (as any Hawaiian-style restaurant should be near the ocean) and the dining area itself is very peaceful and vibrant. I loved that they had Aloha Maid drinks, it's super common in Hawaii and made me think of home a bit. What did shock me and was the spam musubi and the price of the Aloha Maid drinks. They add pineapple to the spam musubi and honestly that's pretty unnecessary. The taste of the pineapple does a disservice to the musubi (in my opinion) because I couldn't taste the spam at all. And then just one bite into it and it all just falls apart, so idk if that's an issue with the rice or the seaweed wrap. Lastly, I was just shocked that the Aloha Maid drinks were $5 each when they're ~$2-$3 in Hawaii but I guess that's taxes and shipping for you.... Overall, a good experience! A couple of shock factors but not enough to make it a negative experience.
