I love Mahi's. They have a really nice patio area and outdoor bar that is bumping in summer and there is usually live music outside in the middle area between them and Chic's. The menu is large and full of seafood and other items to satisfy those who don't like fish. I especially love their steamed shrimp bc it's served in like a white wine sauce or something that is SO good. Very large and delicious shrimp too. I craved it while pregnant and got it all the time. They have a nice and various menu with a kid's menu with a killer burger and fries - like, legit if she doesn't eat it I'm going to. Service is always kind and the inside is pretty. I'm a fan. It's not fine dining, but it's a nice spot at the beach for lunch or dinner.

We walked about 15 blocks to get here on a rainy night. It was cozy inside and not too many people around 7pm on a Tuesday. Our server was great; she took our drink and app order within a few minutes. The sushi was beautifully rolled and tasted fresh. The seafood pasta stood out; a balance of sauce and flavor. The namesake fish was flaky and nicely plated. Great choice for sushi enthusiasts and casual diners.

Mahi is a solid boardwalk spot with a chill vibe and a great view -- perfect for a nice day at Virginia Beach. Service was one of the highlight of my visit. My server, Ashley, was incredible, super friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. I went with the Maryland-style crab cake (as a Marylander myself), and while it didn't quite match true Maryland standards, it was still enjoyable cant be too picky. The succotash wasn't really my thing, but the mashed potatoes were a win. Drinks were on point, well mixed, no skimping, and actually strong in the best way. Overall, Mahi is a laid-back spot right off the boardwalk where you can grab a good drink and a decent meal. It didn't blow me away, but I'd absolutely come back next time I'm in town.

An overall excellent experience at Mahi's from the management, our waiter, wait times, food and drinks. I had walked in on a Sunday, mid-afternoon asking to speak to a manager about a last minute reservation that evening to accommodate 20-25 people. Shay was absolutely great to work with and told me our tables would be ready at the time requested. We were sat in a back room with plenty of space amongst everyone. Our waiter Zach was awesome handling our entire party throughout our time there and he had a great personality. Everyone was very happy with their meals and drinks. Their crab dip is delicious, so good that I just ended up eating a spoonful of it. Sushi is always fresh. We would happily be back again!

Inside the Doubletree on the beach. Indoor and outdoor seating. Extensive menu with surf n turf and sushi. I didn't try the sushi. I'm into shareables and they were impressive. Almost fine dining style food however you walk into the restaurant and the decor and seating are plain and simple. The waiter we had was amazing and welcoming. The new fashioned drink may be one of my favorite drinks ... basically an old fashioned but with tequila. The ice cream cookie is also recommended.

Mahi's was all around an amazing dining experience! I would 100% recommend this place and hope to be back soon! Things I loved: -We were greeted immediately as we entered the establishment -Our server, Lauren, was attentive, professional, and kind -The photographer who takes pictures of your party ($20 per framed photo or $45 for a set of 3) -THE FOOD (seriously this was the best and most fresh poke bowl I have ever had + the sushi was amazing) -The atmosphere was quiet and the restaurant was aesthetically pleasing (we sat inside, but there is also seating outside) -The virgin Pina Colada (so refreshing after a long day at the beach) Things I didn't love: -N/A

Oysters were not fresh, yet, they were as advertised: raw. Pre-shucked, we found them dry. We would not go back for oysters on the half-shell even if they offered free rye. The entrees were good and our server Amber deserves a 5. The music was loud which made it difficult to reprise.

Nice spot near the beach. We came for happy hour and had appetizers with drinks--everything was good. The service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is more upscale modern.

From start to finish, I enjoyed my visit to Mahi's. Our sitting was perfect with views of the boardwalk and ocean. We seemed to arrive at the perfect time before dusk, allowing us to enjoy the sunset and sound of ocean waves. After nightfall, we were able to enjoy live music coming from the boardwalk. Our cocktails were very tasty, and the Oysters Rockefeller was a satisfying start. Our server was great and easily answered my questions about items on the menu. For dinner, I chose the crab cakes, and my husband had the fish and chips. I couldn't resist stealing a few fries off his plate. Potatoes are my weakness, lol. Everything was absolutely delicious and picture worthy. We couldn't resist finishing the meal with dessert. I chose key lime pie to keep the beach vibes going, and my husband ordered the Chef's Cheesecake, and boy, am I happy he did! While a bit tart, my key lime pie was so good, but y'all that cheesecake was creamy deliciousness! It was so good, and I will definitely be ordering it on my next visit. Mahi's was a great choice to end our day.

My husband's Mahi meal. He's eating healthy but ate most of my fries.

We took a nice stroll on the boardwalk. The weather was amazing. Mahi Seafood and Sushi (same address as this Mahi's) had an outside seating area with views of the beach. So nice and perfect weather). Waitress was nice, quick and courteous. I loved my lobster grilled cheese and tomato bisque. My husband had mahi, expensive but worth it. We could have had five dollar fish tacos, drinks etc., because we got there during happy hour. I would recommend.

Even with a little lengthy wait to get seated, because the resturant was full. (a good sign) We had an enjoyable experience here. Kennedy our server was nothing short of amazing! She knew the menu, gave great suggestions, and even assisted with our son's food allergies by notifying the head chef. Every dish was tasteful and my old fashioned was right on. We'll be back.

Drinks were delivered very fast by the bartender. 2nd rounds were offered prior to the drinks being empty which shows good serving habits. The serving portions were very plentiful and played very well on the brunch theme! Burger was cooked medium well but still very juicy with a delicious mayo based sauce. The chicken and biscuit was juicy and the biscuit was flaky and delicious. It would have served the dish well TJ have a little more syrup. I also loved the unique hash tots. Once I added hot sauce, honey, salt, and pepper, it brought the chicken to life and tasted much better. My daughter ordered the smothered chicken and biscuits, butter biscuits topped with cheesy eggs, fried chicken, and cajun cream sauce. The picture below may not look the most appetizing, but don't let that fool you because this dish was packed with flavor! The only downside was the eggs were a bit overcooked. My daughter is picky about eggs, so next time she said she'll ask for them lightly scrambled or over medium. Now let's talk about the drinks lol. I'm a chef myself and travel to different restaurants regularly, so I try to be understanding. That said, the service we experienced yesterday at Stock Pot was unfortunately some of the worst I've had in quite a while. We sat outside, and it honestly felt like we were being deliberately ignored. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet we had to wait long stretches just to get basic things. At one point near the end of our meal, we asked for a box and our check. Instead of bringing it over, the waitresses stood around talking with other waitresses, while we continued to wait. After sitting there for quite a while, we eventually had to ask for the check and box, a second time. Throughout the meal the service was inconsistent. We had three different waitresses checking on us, but were left to sit for about 30 minutes alone at one point, and it took almost 20 to have our order taken, once we ordered, we had to request our appetizer again, after waiting another 20 or so minutes. Upon asking, again, we found out they were out of part of the appetizer we ordered. After that it came out quick. The food, however, was excellent and definitely the highlight of the experience. That's why this review is disappointing to write -- the kitchen is clearly doing a great job. I just hope the service side improves, because it didn't match the quality of the food.

HISTORY ON AN ONION ROLL | THE EYE OPENER CONTINUES TO TEMPT TASTEBUDS, DECADES LATER…read more By Patrick Evans-Hylton For decades, the Belvedere Hotel was more than a place to stay. It was a familiar presence along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, a backdrop for everyday rituals and seaside routines. Tucked inside was the Belvedere Coffee Shop & Diner, a true neighborhood constant since opening in 1969. It was where mornings began with hot coffee and friendly nods, where breakfast and lunch meant dependable comfort, and where the pace of the beach slowed just enough to savor it. When the Belvedere was torn down, it felt like losing a quietly important piece of the Oceanfront's collective memory. That sense of memory carries forward at Belvedere South inside the tony Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. The new space honors the past without freezing it in time. Bright blue walls set against crisp white instantly recall the diner's cheerful spirit. Large windows allow light to flood the space. Cushy banquettes are a comfortable welcome, inviting you to settle in and linger. The menu stays true to its roots with classic breakfast and lunch dishes that feel familiar and reassuring. Anchoring it all is the legendary Eye Opener sandwich, returned to its rightful place as both signature and symbol. In this new setting, the Belvedere legacy lives on, refreshed but recognizable, a reminder that some traditions deserve to be carried forward with care and confidence. The Eye Opener remains the heart of the menu, and one bite explains its legend. A perfectly fried egg anchors the sandwich, its yolk just rich enough to soften the layers beneath. From a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham, we chose the latter; each brings its own salty, savory character. Melted cheese binds everything together, draping the egg and meat in comfort. All of it is tucked into a lightly toasted onion roll that adds a gentle sweetness and just enough bite to stand up to the fillings. Chef Ray Ray Labuen, who wore the tall toque at the former Belvedere, is closely tied to the Eye Opener its careful steward. Then there are the tomatoes, the detail that elevates the whole affair. Thick slices are grilled, seasoned lightly, and finished with a generous snowfall of parmesan cheese. As they cook, the tomatoes soften and turn luscious while the cheese melts and lightly browns, creating a savory crust that clings to the fruit. They are warm, juicy, and deeply flavorful, adding richness and balance to the sandwich. It is indulgent without being heavy, familiar yet special, and exactly the kind of dish that earns its name at the Oceanfront. We also enjoyed rich, creamy grits and a damn fine cup of coffee. Service was exceptional. - I've been covering the cuisine scene in Coastal Virginia and beyond for 30-plus years, and have dined out at thousands and thousands times. I base my scores on the SAVORY system, which attributes values to six distinct attributes: Service, Ambiance, Value, Offerings, Repeatability, and Sensory Experience. That translates to 1 star = 59 or below ; 2 stars = 60 - 69 ; 3 stars = 70-79 ; 4 stars = 80-89 ; and 5 stars = 90 or above. Based on that, this restaurant receives my 5 star rating. This is based on a visit on Jan. 7, 2026 - I'm a Johnson & Wales-trained chef reporting on food and foodways in print (magazines, The Virginian-Pilot), television (morning shows, Food Network, WTKR TV-3), radio (PBS, AM 790 WNIS), and more.
