after alterations

I have been going to Ally's Bridal for years for all my alterations needs. She is incredibly talented, awesome to work with, and often a life saver last minute! Most recently, I went for alterations for my rehearsal dinner dress and wedding dress. My rehearsal dinner dress was handmade in Ethiopia using a woven fabric but it ended up being too large and not as structured as I would have preferred. Yoon listened to my concerns of keeping the intricate colored fabric on the sleeves and side body intact and helped me find a solution. She was able to reconstruct the bodice and adjust the fit while keeping the important details. My wedding dress also fit like a glove on my wedding day. Yoon suggested adding a French bustle to the dress that ended up being a lovely addition. Always appreciate a recommendation from someone with so much experience. I've recommended Ally's Bridal to all my friends and family and will continue to do so!

Wow. I don't even have words to explain how fantastic ally is and how incredible my experience was. I was a Covid bride and the process was incredibly emotional. Ally was there every step of the way. I came to her 5 weeks before the wedding and she needed to recreate the entire dress. SHE MADE IT INTO THE MOST INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL DRESS. Her precision and attention to detail was flawless. I am a curvier girl and Ally made this dress so incredibly flattering and fit me like a glove. Also, I must address ally's kindness. I hadn't seen my mother in six months because of Covid. She is very high risk and definitely couldn't go to indoor spaces. Ally helped walk me in my dress outside so that my mom could be with me during my fitting. We were sobbing because it was so emotional. Thank you, Ally!

Couldn't recommend more!! Went in with a sample dress and didn't quite fit and she helped figure out how to make it fit, and took the time to fix every concern I had. Very patient and took extra time to make sure I was 100% happy. Best experience.

Joon was incredible! She put so much attention and detail into altering my dress and adding a bustle. Definitely go to her for your needs!

I had a wonderful alterations experience at Ally's Bridal! Joon is kind, patient, and incredibly skilled. Even with some last minute requests before our October wedding (a very busy time for vendors!), Joon took the time to make sure that every single detail with my dress and veil was exactly how I pictured it, with a smile on her face the whole time. My dress fit like a glove, and I felt so glamorous on the wedding day. As a Jersey City resident, it was an added bonus to be able to do my alterations locally. Thank you Joon! :)

Really glad that I went to Allys Bridal for my wedding dress alterations! Joon did an amazing job and was so easy to work with. I also had a custom veil made, which ended up being perfect. Definitely recommend!!

Ally is super patient about your request. She's so nice and creative. I am glad I found her for my 2 bridal dresses.

My perfect dress.

Update because I never attached a photo. This really was my perfect dress. Trust whatever Ally says- she is brilliant. There is absolutely nothing I regret about this experience.

Just have to add an update here because it's two weeks out from my wedding and the top thing everyone is STILL commenting on is my dress. People just could not get over how perfectly it fit me and when I told them how much fabric Ally removed, they truly didn't believe me. HIRE HER!!!

Joon is amazing!!! Hands down the best wedding dress tailor in Hoboken. I swear she's a fairy with magical hands. I came in as a walk-in, in a panic about tailoring my dress in a very tight deadline (took an unbelievable amount of time to book a venue and find the dress - 2022 is a record year for weddings!) and Joon didn't blink an eye. She invited me in, did a fitting, and said to come back in 2 weeks for a trial before the final fitting. I bought my dress at a sample sale - size 8...I'm a size 0.....so that's what I mean by her working magic. And the dress has A LOT of embroidery - shoulders, waist, skirt. Im squealing with joy right now. Super nice, really listens to what you're looking for and does great quality work. My mom was so impressed, she wants Joon to tailor her regular dresses (not wedding related). Thank you Joon!

A perfect fit

Ally was a pleasure to work with when it came to alterations in my gauze, tulle and lace wedding dress by Pronovias. I bought the dress from the flagship store in Manhattan but decided against getting it altered there because of some truly awful reviews on Yelp (multiple brides not having their dress done the day before their wedding!). I'm glad I found Ally. She works with a fixed price, and the price was higher (+$80) than the price the Pronovias flagship quoted, but I decided it was worth it for the peace of mind and the convenience (I live in Hoboken). Now, you may worry about the fact that it was a fixed price, but their really is no need. Ally is a perfectionist. She made changes that she didn't really need to (I wouldn't have noticed unless she pointed them out), but that did make a difference. The biggest was the neckline of my dress. It was a lace, bateaux neckline and she tinkered with it until she got it to lay just right. And you couldn't even tell by looking at the dress that anything had been done to that lace !

I went to Ally for my bridal alterations. I needed significant alterations to the waist and sides of my wedding gown because I am about 4 sizes smaller on top than I am in my hip area. I purchased a gown from David's Bridal and had to get a size 16 to fit my hips. The chest and waist area were obviously way too big. I was worried it was too big of a change for someone to be able to do but Ally was not deterred. She did an amazing job. I went to 3 or 4 fittings in total. I paid a really hefty price tag -- $580 -- and that included every fitting and change she made. In the end, I felt like it was worth it because the dress fit me perfectly. She also suggested adding more tulle to the bottom so the dress would be more bouncy and full and it looked amazing. I'm glad I took that suggestion. One complaint: Ally insisted that I should have a larger cup size to balance out my hips so she added not one up but TWO cups inside the chest area. I shouldn't have listened to her. I only needed one. Having two huge cups made my chest look fuller but it also made the dress sag open when I bent over and when I was saying all my hellos to guests and leaning down to give them hugs at their tables I was SO self conscious of my boob padding showing. Halfway through the reception I got a pair of scissors and cut out the second cup. I felt so much better!

Ask the Community - Allys Bridal

Can anybody share an estimate for how much it would be to get a dress taken in & hemmed? I have a bridesmaid dress that needs alterations and some of the places in NYC have quoted me more than the price of the dress itself.

I've been here before, back in February 2026 to have a bridesmaid dress altered and they did a…read morewonderful job, so I didn't hesitate to return. Unfortunately, my experience this time was completely different. I brought in a simple double layered dress that only needed to be hemmed and was quoted $140, more than the dress itself! I was told that because it had two layers, it was essentially like "hemming two dresses." At $70 a layer, I guess every layer counts. I then asked about simply taking in the waist of a pair of jeans. I was initially quoted $25, but after looking at them again, I was told there was suddenly "a lot more work" involved and that I had been quoted incorrectly. At that point, I took both items and left. I went to another alterations shop and was quoted under $100 for BOTH the dress and the jeans. It seems management may have changed since my last visit, which is unfortunate because I was previously very happy with their work. Hopefully the pricing doesn't continue in this direction, because $140 to hem a simple dress is pretty hard to justify.

I have been coming here for over 5 years and have had many bridesmaid dresses altered here,…read moreincluding double-lined dresses. Historically, I was charged around $85-$100 for this type of alteration, so I was extremely surprised by my experience today. I also want to mention that I have always loved the tailor here. She is incredibly precise, detailed, and fair priced. I have always been happy with her work, and she is a big reason I continued coming back over the years. The tailor I have always used was still working here, but it appears the business is now under new management. I was quoted $180 to hem a double-lined dress and $210 for a dress with three layers. That is an enormous increase from what I have paid for essentially the same service over the years. I politely declined and took my dresses to another dry cleaner up the street (still in Hoboken). They charged me $85 for the double-lined dress and $125 for the three-layer dress - which was much more in line with what I have historically paid. I completely understand that prices increase and that businesses have to adjust their pricing, but these prices felt excessive, especially given my long history as a customer and the fact that I was able to get the exact same alterations done elsewhere for significantly less. Very disappointing to see such a drastic change at a place I had trusted for years. I will not be coming back.

This was off just having a terrible experience with some shirts getting butchered by the local dry cleaner, so I wanted a more professional take. I walked in completely clueless on a whim, tactlessly not making an appointment, and even though it was Juan's lunchbreak he still immediately took the time to see me and work with me. That said... let the man eat. Don't interrupt his break! I still feel bad about it!!! About the tailoring: Juan is just That Dude. He WILL make you look better and point out ways to make the clothes better compliment your body that others don't even know about. The pricing felt extremely fair and not at all like I was being overcharged for the amount and quality of work being done. Not only that, Juan did me a solid by getting the alterations done in-time with a big move out of state. Last minute, off of a random walk-in, and brother still treated me like I was a long time regular. And matter of fact, even though I'm going to be living down south I WILL still be getting my nicest clothing tailored by Juan. That's what his work is worth to me. 10/10 will be making sure I get my nephews' first suits tailored by him too
