They showed up on time with large Crane 3 trucks and tree mover and another stump grinder machine. There was a professional foreman with 7 other men. It was like a well synchronized operation. All wore proper safety and equipment. They did what promised and beyond and cleaned after themselves. We called Allen Tree Service and one other company for an estimate after two trees fell in our yard during the hurricane (one of them was on our roof). Scott came out within hours of our call to examine the damage. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. His estimate came in a couple hundred dollars lower than the other company we called, and our insurance adjuster said it was fair and reasonable. They came out the next day, on schedule as promised, and the crew was great. They were polite and knowledgeable, and offered some insight on other trees we might want to consider removing as well. I didn't want to cut down any trees because they were old and beautiful to me, but there were 3 large oak trees dangerously close to the home I just purchased. They were already causing damage to the deck due to root growth, and would have been devastating if they were to fall on my house. A structural engineer also recommended removal for potential damage to the foundation of the house. I reached out to Scott for an estimate before I closed on the house because a friend had used this company and highly recommended. He promptly went to the property and provided a quote. The pricing was transparent and fair. On the day of the service, they brought in a big crew, a crane, and about six other trucks. They set up quickly and got to work, and answered all of my questions thoroughly. Although I was sad at the end to see these giant trees gone, I couldn't have asked for a better company to do the work. They removed 3 very large oak trees, and about 9 small trees. They were at my home for a total of 45 minutes and did less than half of the work for 570. 00 I paid them before the job was done because I trusted them to do what they were hired to do and left for work. We had an extended period of heavy rain this summer and the ground and trees became completely saturated. Sitting in my family room one night after midnight reading, I heard a creaking sound and a loud crash. Timber! A "branch" of a large oak tree next door had become so heavy with rain it snapped off and fell across my driveway narrowly missing my house. Unfortunately it landed on my car. This was not a small branch but was the size of a mature tree and required removal by a professional. After talking to the insurance company I began frantically searching for a service to call first thing in the morning. I read lots of reviews of Allen and their perfect Better Business Bureau record and felt comfortable calling them. They advertised tree removal services on their site as well as emergency service. I placed a call as soon the sun came up and it was a reasonable hour. It was, I believe, a little before 8am. I fully expected to get an answering machine/voicemail but wanted to go ahead and place the call to schedule an estimate. My call was returned around 9 by Scott. He began the conversation by making a comment about how early I had called and seemed irritated. He said he could give me an estimate and asked if I would be home and gave me a time frame. He said he could leave the estimate for me if I was not there. I said I had to run a quick errand but I should be there during that time. Shortly thereafter I heard something and realized someone had just walked on my porch and stuffed something in the door. By the time I got to the front door they were long gone. There was no knock or even an attempt to see if I was home. The estimate was ridiculously high as well. I had been prepared to just pay whatever the estimate was to get the tree removed as quickly as possible but they didn't even bother to speak with me when I was sitting right there in the house. It was quite obvious the company wanted nothing to do with my small job which is of course their choice. However I was quite taken aback at the way they treated me after all of their talk about their customer service. This situation was quite stressful and this just added to the unpleasantness. I called Blackhawk on recommendation of my neighbor. I will review them in an appropriate location but they were extremely responsive, compassionate and had the tree out of my yard in under an hour for a reasonable price. I have some larger removal jobs I need done on my property but I will be calling Blackhawk not Allen. read more

I have used Allen Tree Experts twice. Once was 4-years ago and the second time was today. Today they removed a large tree and cleaned up a bunch of dead limbs on other trees. I called Scott at 9am one morning and by 11am I had a quote. Scott and his son Josh showed up on time with all the heavy equipment to do the job quickly and more importantly - safely. They really know what they are doing - totally professional. I was very happy with the price. My wife and I are new to Cary and recently bought a home that essentially had a highly wooded back yard with very mature 60+ foot pines and hardwoods. We called up Allen Tree Service and Scott was there later that day and provided us with his expert consulting and then personally put ribbons on approximately 20 trees and gave us a date three weeks out to allow us time to get our HOA approval. He was very flexible as it took longer for us to obtain the final OK and he was there with the crew the following week and within six (6) hours we had a brand new back yard. I just had two dead trees removed that I recently discovered were in worse shape than I had thought and was worried about them hitting my neighbor's house. Here's my experience. I left a message asking for a quote, and because of the imperativeness of the situation, in addition to my contact info I left my address in that message, probably saying that any time would be fine to come by. I received a voice message back saying they would be by at such and such a time the next day. I like people who don't waste time by waiting to reach you, who make decisions for the sake of progress, and have the initiative to set up an open-ended appointment. They were on time and I had a quote in 10 minutes. I felt like I didn't have time to shop around, so I moved forward with work that met their minimum charge. Not very happy about that minimum charge, but I came to see why that is. As they had a cancellation, they were there two days later, and 10 minutes ahead of their stated time with enough men and equipment to clear a small forest. I watched them work. They know what they're doing, and they do it with obvious skill. Moreover, they removed more of the downed trees than we had agreed to within the quote. We offered to pay more because of that extra work, but they declined. In addition, they made significant effort to clean up after the job. All business, no bullshit. I have to agree with the "hidden" reviews ("not recommended") and those I saw on google earlier today. These guys are a smarmy lot. They repeatedly cancel service dates with explanations that are obvious lies and put offs. They are overbooked and it shows. The 2nd day of work, they wanted to finish before dark because they were "so far behind and needed to finish so they could catch up" on their schedule. I had been put off 3 times by then and though somebody checked in as they were leaving in the dark, it was not until the next day that I was able to see that I that trees we had contracted (and paid) to take down remained in our yard and they left my yard A WRECK. Mentioned it when I sent my check but - not unexpected regarding their previous performance - never heard from them again. Issues I had with the crew when they were onsight were not well remedied either. read more
