We had used this company last year for a tree removal and had had a very good experience. This year was quite the opposite. The people on site to do the job argued with my wife about what was to be done and left without finishing the job. We made a polite call to the office to let them know what had happened and were told that they were very busy and it was hectic at the office, but they would get back to me when they could. I got an email saying that they had lived up to their side of the contract, and regardless of what we had asked for, it was not represented in the contract and if we wanted the job completed it would cost more money. I paid my bill but will not use this company again. They care more about catching you up in the small print and tricking you than running a customer service driven business. read more

A Plus Tree & Crane in Raleigh are the best! Wish I had known about them years ago! They were very quick to do an estimate and scheduled tree removal almost immediately. I had a really huge tree in the fenced-in backyard where the only access was a 4 ft wide gate, plus there was an arbor they had to go through. They did a great job, meticulously removing the tree bit by bit and grinding the stump. (I had declined the use of a crane.) We had a tall, large gum ball tree that died and needed removing, along with some other trees so we could do some renovations in our backyard. We reached out to four or five companies total and received quotes for tree removal and stump grinding services. The quote we received was within our price range, and thankfully they had a cancellation so we could get the trees removed less than two weeks after receiving a quote. The day of, the crew showed up bright and early, worked about 8 hours and removed all six trees and grinded all the stumps! We have so much more space and light in our backyard now! Wow! Did not leave a leaf on the ground! I received a quote yesterday, they came today. Unfortunately I had left my sprinkler on and the spider which is a 90 foot extension and a tracked vehicle driven over pods could have messed up the yard or my neighbors yard They said it could leave tracks on the lawn. So the guy said I'll climb the tree. I said any change in price? He said no. Three big trucks, all parked on the side of the street none in the neighbors lawn. A crew of about nine people were here for an hour. He took out dead branches from the top of a maple tree that was 67 feet tall. It was interesting to watch them work as a team. They should be called A+++ Tree and Crane Service!! My neighbor and I had 5 large (40 foot) pine trees removed from our front yard. The estimator was here within 24hrs of the estimate request. He was pleasant, informative and answered all our questions. He gave us a more than fair quote so we signed the contract which outlined everything he was going to do at the property. Two days later a crane, trucks and men came to start work early morning. It was fun to watch the crane work! After 4 hours of working you would never know they were there. The trees were gone and stump grinded. There wasn't a pine needle left in the street or on our driveways or lawns. They cleaned better than I do and I'm really particular about my lawn. Wanted a quote to cut down a few trees. They told me they could come by Wednesday. I said great - I'll be here until 4:30. They could not guarantee this which I understand but I got home at 7:30 pm and asked my friend if they had come by and she said no. I get a knock on my door at 7:50pm! Without a call, text or email. Nothing. I understand that they may choose to work that late and some people are ok with it, but don't show up to my house after dinner time without warning, it's rude. I cannot speak to their work or pricing as I didn't get a quote from them, I had 4 other quotes from companies that showed up when they said they would and made sure I knew they were on the way. read more

This is my second time working with A+ Tree and Crane and it will not be my last. The team is fast, professional, friendly, and communicative. I am very happy with the results. No damage done to the Japanese maple and shrubs already planted. The work was performed on .4 acres. 6 large trees were taken down. All other trees had canopies raised and were also pruned. I watched these guys cut down three 20-year-old trees that had died and needed to be removed. This was complicated because the trees were immediately adjacent to a 6-ft tall metal fence and half of the canopy was above holly trees on the neighbors' property. They cut the trees down without any collateral damage, chipped the trees, and hauled both the chips and the giant stumps away. They also cleaned both properties of fallen leaves and didn't leave anything behind. I liked how they put down a track on the grass so the specialized tree tractor-forklift didn't even leave an impression in the grass or landscaping. read more

Large pine tree went from green needles to rusty brown over a very short period of time--so to keep it from spreading to other trees, we needed to get it removed asap. A+ responded by squeezing in an estimate on day 1, and sent removal crew (8 people, 7 trucks) on day two. Access through damp area increased urgency since rain was forcast for day 3. Result: tree removal was completed in 3 hours, including cleanup. A very visible part of lawn over which tree removal machine had to pass was protected with large thick rubber pads. They worked extremely well--net no damage to lawn or driveway. Team worked efficiently and safely. The climber was amazing and was able to drop limbs without damaging surrounding trees/shrubs.. Great work from the A+ tree and crane service. They came in and efficiently worked on our trees and were done in about an hour and a half. the work completed was to specification. There were about 5 people doing the job. One up in the trees cutting, a couple on the ground raking and pushing limbs to the dingo. One carting the limbs to the front in the dingo. And one grinding up the branches. The value was great and beat several other quotes. They could really benefit from double the amount of mats that they lay down to cross your yard. They worked like a charm when they were covering the grass but in the areas that were not covered up by the mats, they ruined the lawn. Something to really be mindful of if you value your lawn. We were warned about this, but in my opinion, they should be striving for excellence, not just saying "it is what it is" especially when they know the solution and are only half way solving it. Would hesitantly recommend them to my friends with ugly yards. read more

My MIL had a tree removed from her front yard recently. The workers left all of the tree chips...basically a giant mound of ground up tree debris. When my MIL called and spoke with Abby about it, Abby informed her that the yard debris would be removed later that week. Nobody ever came to pick it up. My MIL called and spoke with Kenneth, who informed her that there is an extra charge for debris removal. Nowhere in the quote she received was there mention of an extra charge for debris removal; she's never had to pay before. My MIL was promised removal of the debris with no extra charges by one of the employees and the company should honor that. I posted on the company's Facebook page and received a quick answer: Hi Rachel, sorry for the confusion regarding chip/mulch removal. It was Abby's understanding from XXXX that they had left chips on site in a random pile, which was surprising because they never get complaints, only compliments. So with that, Abby did tell her that we would come remove the chips. When she spoke with Kenneth he discovered that she meant that there were chips left in the stump hole. This is something that we do not remove for free because it takes additional time and man power. We have no problem taking care of that stump hole chip removal for you. Again, sorry for the confusion on our end. We would love to come and finish it up to her liking. Unfortunately, the company has not attempted to contact my MIL, nor have they come to remove the chip mound. My MIL has been waiting for A+ to honor their commitment because she is trying to have another tree planted in that spot. Given that A+ doesn't appear to want to actually "come and finish it up to her liking," she will have to pay someone else to remove the debris so her new tree can be planted. It's good to know of local companies that do NOT honor the commitments made by their employees. A+ Tree & Crane? More like F. UPDATE: A+ came an removed the chip mound this afternoon. I will note that it seemed to take some combination of my Facebook/Yelp reviews and persistence by my MIL that got them to honor their commitment, so I'd still be cautious and very clear on the terms of your agreement if you choose to do business with them. read more

I had (1) dead pine tree, and 6 beetle infested pine trees removed, from my back yard. The A+ Tree and Crane team arrived 30 minutes prior to their schedule start time, it was obvious to me that Safety was the top priority, once the crane was positioned, level, and secured in place, they then briefed their plan. They went so far as to go knock on my neighbors door and briefed them with what was about to happen, ensuring children and adults stayed well out of the work zone. These trees were a minimum of 36 inches in diameter, and over 60 feet tall. when all the trees were down, my yard, the driveway and street were left in better condition and they found them. My husband and I were very happy with this service. We called two other tree companies for estimates and one didn't even show up while the second came by 3 hours after they were supposed to. A+ Tree didn't give us an ETA because their estimators do apparently 25 or so estimates a day. However, they came out on a Tuesday night and promptly emailed us their estimate afterwards. They were extremely responsive via phone and email and even made us aware of an additional coupon that had been posted on their website, which we didn't know about. The A+ workers arrived at ~ 8 am on Friday and the job was completed by 11, with them taking care to not ruin our lawn. We'd happily use them again in the future. read more

Our home sits below street grade and where the trees sat in the rear was even further below grade. This needed a crane. Using the bobcat like rigs to transport the tree remains to the trucks wasn't practical. It also made me extremely nervous despite all the positive reviews and experience A+ has. When it's your home there is a little more anxiety, at least for me. After the entire crew was assembled, I left to run some errands and try to get my mind on something else. After one hour I returned to see how much progress had taken place. I could not see the trees in question. All 3 trees had basically been cut down where you couldn't see them looming in the background over the house. In the street the workers were dismantling what appeared to be the crown of one tree. It was huge by itself. These trees were covered with ivy which was the reason I wanted them taken down. The crane then moved in position over our house and a short time later, a huge trunk of the last tree was lifted from the rear, over the house, and placed in the street for dismantling. Basically, three large trees were removed from the rear in under 2 hours and that included the setup of the crane which I estimate was at least 15-20 minutes. I was thinking 3+ hours just to cut them down. Simply amazing work. I applaud these skilled professionals. After everything was ground up, logs loaded for take away, leaf blower was used for final clean up, it was like A+ Tree and Crane was never there. THANK YOU. read more

We had a large tree fall across our back yard at 630 one morning. It was wedged against another tree or would have smashed through our roof. We tried to contact a number of tree services. A+ called us back immediately . Two representatives came to the house within 30minutes. Because of how our house is situated heavy equipment could not get to the back. A crew was called , a large crane had to cross our front yard to lift large pieces of the tree over our house as it was cut by hand in the back. I received a mailer coupon for $300 off any job over $1,700 from A+ so I decided to contact them for a free estimate on removing a number of trees from my back yard. A representative came out to my house and gave me an estimate of $2,200 for the entire job. So I decided this was a great deal being that I have a coupon which would bring the price down to $1,900. Upon receiving a written estimate via email I noticed that the quote was now $2,400 with a coupon discount of $200 which brought me back to $2,200. A few points... 1. I was not told at the time of the estimate that it would be $2,400 2. The mailer coupon says $300 not $200 off 3. This essentially means that I receive NO coupon discount from my original estimate I had a few email exchanges with A+ about this discrepancy. I specifically pointed out that my estimate was $2,200 and the coupon states $300 off. I received a revised estimate that STILL had $2,400 but the coupon discount was changed to $300. I again pointed out that $2,400 was not my original estimate and to please make the correction. The reply from A+ was "I will send that over now, we have an opening tomorrow. Do you want to go ahead and get on the schedule?". So based on this I agreed to have the work scheduled. When the workers came out I told them about this discrepancy and they confirmed that the estimate was for $2,200. They were great! I was very satisfied with the work so I agreed to give them ADDITIONAL business and have 5 stumps grounded. When I gave them the check at the end of the project one of the workers stated the office was on the phone and wanted to speak to me. Again we are going back and forth over this $2,400 estimate. I explained to them everything I've already stated above and they would not budge. The fact is A+ admitted that a mistake was made and I was not told what the actual quote was at the time of the estimate. The fact is I was never aware of any $200 discount nor was it discussed. On my part, I shouldn't have scheduled the work to be done until I received the 3rd revised estimate. The fact that I gave them additional business and they've admitted a mistake on their part to me means they could have stuck to the original quote. I think its horrible from a customer service perspective that they couldn't take the $200 loss and they put it on the customer instead. read more

We had some scheduling conflicts that the owner and Abby worked out with me. They were very polite and consistently responded in a positive manner.
