I was in town from Texas for surgery when I lost the little plastic nose piece for my prescription Maui Jim's. I located Austin Optometry close to my hotel and was pleasantly surprised by the level of service when I walked in. The front desk girl could not have been more friendly and helpful and she took care of my problem immediately. Staff is incompetent. Lied to me several times regarding costs. Also told me me buy a Groupon then didn't let me use it. Informed me they ordered diagnostic lenses and they would arrive in 2-3 days. A week and half later they tell me they never ordered then bc of an insurance issue. Long story short they don't know how to communicate, their staff is rude and all they try and do is upsell you on neuro lens. That's all they care about, not their clients. Awful place. read more

Dr is Great! Jen is very nice. Other staff - wish they were nicer. I got a call on Wednesday to pick up my Contact lens, so I went on Friday on my break from work to pop in and get it. The girl there couldn't find it and asked if I even got a call to come in. I told her I did get a call on Wednesday -next another person came in and she told me to have a seat and proceeded to tend to the other patient- I was floored. First of all she should have told the other person to wait and tend to me first-i told the girl-i am on my break and am not going to come back to get my contacts or have a seat. She still gave the other person forms to fill out etc. After that she went in the back and found my contacts. I am NOT going back there. I would rather call 1-800 Contacts! Dr.Austin was great. He was really thorough with the exam which I appreciated for being a "Groupon" patient. What got me was that I wasn't told there was an ADDITIONAL charge and at no point was I told a contact exam would be ANOTHER $150 on top of my Groupon. Luckily I can afford it. But I really can't imagine why the person do my "pre-exam" or the receptionist who took my paperwork wouldn't have told me prior to starting an additional exam for contacts that would cost another $150? I was pretty baffled and the girl up in the front desk repeated herself so nonchalant like she clearly had practice. Just think it's a shame to not tell patients prior. Maybe Dr. Austin should have his staff inform patients prior to additional services? There was an elderly man in there at the same time. I can't imagine how sad that would be to do that to someone who wouldn't have been able to afford it. read more

I am not normally the kind of person who will, under any circumstances, leave an online review, but I was so impressed that I am leaving one. Let me first tell you that I hate Optometrist visits. I have Very sensitive eyes, and I can't stand anything shining in them, or going near them. Most Optometrists I have seen tell me I am one of the hardest people to test. I try to cooperate, but every visit is very hard for me. My first experience here was so good, so let me tell you about the second visit. I came here for my second visit. The parking is reasonable, and parking is validated. I like that the suite is one the bottom floor. There is no need to take the elevator. The staff is very attentive, and got me in fast. The lady did my minor tests quickly, and as easily as possible. I was then taken to the exam room, were there was a short wait. My optometrist came in, and proceeded to perform the tests on me. He was once again very attentive, considerate, and patient. He seems to really care about doing a good job, and about my comfort with the tests. He would do anything to make me feel more at ease, and make the exam easier for me. He adjusted the test to make it as easy and as fast as possible. After my first visit, I decided he was the one for me, and after the second visit, I would go nowhere else. He is by far the best optometrist I have ever been to. In the past, I avoided going to the Optometrist, and only went about every 5 years, but I am comfortable enough with Austin that I am now willing to go every year. Good Job! The highest quality of extremely cutting edge fashion eye-wear and on one occasion when I had an issue with a coating that was not performing as it should they took care of it immediately handling all issues with the manufacturer. I have the nothing bad to say about Dr Austin himself, he's a nice and caring guy to patients. However, I was pushed into buying a year's supply of contacts as a first time contact wearer, which turned out to not work for me. I tend to put my blind trust in doctors and their staff, which is my own fault because at the end of day there are sales people also. I certainly didn't need to spend $800 on contacts, and did not need more than a small supply to try out to see if it would work out for me, but they convinced me that I did. I was also promised a rebate as a selling point, which I was never able to get. This is not the part that had me upset, because I understand they are just doing their job and trying to sell their products. The major problem here is the manner in which they dealt with me when I called in to express my concerns. I spoke to Sophia and let her know that I have boxes and boxes of unused contacts, and irritated eyes for which the contacts will not work with. She was quick to just tell me to look at the receipt where it says no refunds, however, on the phone she said they sometimes give refunds to patients. It's clearly not that black and white and if they've given refunds in the past. I was lied to and mislead in order to get me to buy a full years supply, and now that I'm having complications with them, they are behaving like one of the most unwilling-to-help professional businesses I have ever encountered. I encourage everyone to be smart with their money, and only purchase what you are comfortable with, do not let them talk you into something more because you will definitely not be able to get any of your money back if you end up not being able to use it. Go somewhere with better customer service. Or Dr. Austin, redevelop your business office standards. read more

I came here because I found a Groupon and was in dire need of getting my eyes checked. I was pleased with the service. It took a while to be acknowledged at first, but I think it was because they were all preoccupied at the moment (no biggie, I was late anyways). The person who first helped me was very nice and the doctor was awesome. He explained a lot of things to me, which I appreciated because I wanted to fully understand what was going on (of course). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the small selection. However! The selection they have was pretty awesome and I actually decided to get 2 frames. The lady that helped me pick the glasses seemed to be patient with me, and I am glad! I can be indecisive at times. She also explained the pricing and options, and I absolutely loved the service. If I am still in this area in a year, I will definitely visit them again :) read more

This is going to be my new place to get my yearly prescription. I originally came here because I bought the $39 eye exam only to find out that it was only for a glasses prescription and not contacts. I had to pay for a separate contacts exam which was a bit over $100 so I ended up paying the same price as going to places such as Walmart or Costco. Despite not saving money, I liked the doctor and service so much that I will be a returning customer. Special note: Do not trust your iPhone/ android nav directions, it will get you lost. Just look for the huge yellowish building that says CASHCALL on the very top. It's hard to miss, but then again you probably don't have the best of vision 8) read more

This office gets two stars only because the doctor is great and the office is run by adolescents. Here's why: 1) I recently moved here from New Orleans and needed to find new doctors. My girlfriend recommended groupon so I bought one for this place only under the provision that it said there was a $150 glasses allowance. I find out that's not the case. After a great doctors visit, the 20 something year old "glasses expert" who was dressed like my girlfriends 13 year old daughter and was chewing gum like a bored teenager in class (I'm a high school English teacher, I'm aware of the behaviors of juveniles) she said that wasn't the case and came up with some odd figure that left me paying $250 for glasses I desperately needed. On a teachers salary that's not an easy expense. Then after I left I had a message on my phone saying that on my receipt she put the wrong name and to disregard it because she fixed it. 2) I didn't hear from the office for a while. Finally I called and the guy who also just moved up a grade said he had left a message for me two weeks ago. I never received it, but in either case you work at a professional doctors office, how about a follow up phone call. When I said I hadn't received his message he responded, "well I did." Like a five year old. 3) I went in to get my glasses. Again teenage girl brings them to me. They're brown. I never ordered brown glasses. Almost in tears I told her I hated them and the original ones I picked out were black. She became annoyed at this point and acted like I was asking her to do her job, oh wait I was. So she says to me , " are you sure they were black? Maybe you thought they were?" Um no they were black. She says they only have this poop brown or some grey color. Out of desperation I take them and as I ask her to adjust them she copes an attitude. Goes to put them in their case and basically throws them at me and says, "here." No I'm sorry no thank you, nothing. I'm so highly disappointed in the level of customer service and an unwillingness to help a patient that I will never return to this office, even if the doctor is great. I'm going to be starting a new position next year and at least I know I will not be returning to this office again and maybe in six months when I get new glasses I can get ones I actually wanted and ordered to begin with. $250 down the drain. read more

Dr. Allen Austin is really awesome. He is friendly, thorough, and professional. During my yearly eye exams he always asks if I have any questions and he answers them all. Every year I go I always learn about the newest products for contact lenses and this time I was also informed of an $85 rebate for Acuvue contacts. Such a savings! The front desk is knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the the costs with my insurance plan. Top notch operation. Oh and they are also open on the first Saturday of every month. read more

Terrible service!!! Will never go to this optometrist again!!! I scheduled a contact lense exam over the phone. I had told the lady over the phone that I no longer had insurance and would be paying out of pocket. I also informed her that it had been one year since my comprehensive exam and I don't wear glasses and only needed contacts (currently had no contacts so this was an urgent appt).She stated that was fine and I could come in at 2 pm. I quickly booked a babysitter (my daughter is only 8 weeks old) and I went to this appt. I arrived earlier than 2 Pm and was checked in. I was taken into the room where a different lady came in and said that because my comprehensive exam had been done over a year, I would have to get both a comprehensive exam and a contact exam! I was extremely upset because I informed her that I didn't have insurance and that would be too much to pay out of pocket right away and if that was the case, why was I not notified of this while booking my appointment after I had disclosed all this information????? She stated there was nothing she could do and pretty much told me unless I paid over 350 dlls for both exams, I needed to go! I asked to speak to the dr. Because I had been going here for years, and he refused to speak to me ! I asked for a pair of sample contacts in the meantime since I would have to wait to be seen until I got vision insurance or I could afford to pay all of it out of pocket and she declined to give me anything even after she knew this was completely their fault! I expressed that I had to pay for a babysitter for nothing and this was extremely frustrated. Clearly the office didn't care and I went on my way. It is a shame that this is the type of experience they are providing to loyal customers! Will never return or recommend this optometrist ever again! I first went to another Optometrist at the Bock, I walked in and walked out after 3 minutes of looking at their outdated frames. I than went to Dr. Austin's office and it was a pleasant experience from start to finish. My glasses just broke in half and I needed a new pair. I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly; the staff was quite helpful and mostly patient. Dr. Austin was great, even though I only saw him a total of 10 minutes but it could have been a lot worse. He is a nice, easy going Optometrist who actually listens. When I got my glasses, they were a little too dark. I called them and they said to go bring them in and they will get me a new set of lenses, which they did at no cost!!!! About 6 months later, one of my nose pads fell off, i took them in and they replaced them within a few minutes while I waited. I really do like this place. My only advice, not complaint, is a few of the staff could smile a little more. read more

I started going to Dr. Austin's office in 2003 and about 4 yrs ago I had to switch Dr. Gonzales on Bristol/17th because of the stupidity and crappy service I started to receive from Dr. Austin's office. They lack communication skills and I'm not sure its the front office or the ladies that work there, but it starts with Dr. Austin himself. His dad was an awesome Dr. but he is a piece of work. His staff takes his direction and always gave me the run around and was never consistant with his policies. Way to expensive...I have insurance but chose to pay out of pocket for my sons contact exam he was gonna change close to $200 so I went with my sons Dr. (Dr. Bass) were I paid less than $70 for first contacts exam and traning...WOW and no hassle. I would not recommend Dr. Austin, but would reco Dr. Bass for kids and Dr. Gonzales for adults. read more

I have been going to Austin Optometry for 10 years, and I simply adore them! The staff and both Sr and Jr Dr. Austin make you feel like family. They are always very efficient and engaging. I've been wearing glasses since I was six, and it wasn't until I went to Dr. Austin, Sr, that I was told my eyes do not see on the same level. Dr. Austin, Sr did a special test to look further into my eyes, and not additional cost whatsoever to me, and told me more about my eyes than any of the other optometrists combined. Came in just recently to get some lenses put in a pair of Chloe eyeglasses. Usually order my contacts here and decided to come here for my eyeglass lenses too. Didn't have an appointment, walked-in, and they were able to accommodate me right away. One of the technicians helped me get sized for my glasses. Really impressed with the innovative technology they had to get the precise measurement of your pupils so the lens are made more efficiently. I was told only a handful of clinics have it and that was definitely a plus. The technician was very helpful and she was able to get me out of there in about 20 minutes or so. They don't have an extensive collection of frames but they do have another location that offers the higher end frames and they can have them sent to the Orange location for your convenience. Always friendly and quick whenever I come in. Made an appointment for an eye exam last Saturday and was in and out in 20 minutes. Dr. Austin is very nice and puts me at ease whenever I'm concerned about something.
