Dr Austin, is amazing. He treated me for my dry eye symptoms when I was desperate and my tears were running non stop on my cheeks. It was for me a horrible and embarrassing situation to deal with constantly. The area around my eyes got irritated all of a sudden. I went back to see Dr Austin and he took all the time needed to look into the reasons including every cream I used and discuss everything I am exposed too to determine what caused it and referred me to the right specialist since it was a totally specialty. I should have left this review a long time ago because Dr. Austin has been a lifesaver for me. He has been treating my dry eye and post-PRK corneal neuralgia for the last few years. Dr. Austin helps me with more mainstream approaches to treating dry eye (eg IPL, prescription eye drops, etc) but he's also willing to help me try novel treatments. Dr is super nice, however his crew is horrible. Never return calls, never orders contacts when asked too. When I went in for glasses I had to pick my own frame, I had to remind girl to do measurements for progressives, I had to remind her I needed to pay. I just got new insurance called to see if they take it and they said no, instead of pulling it up. If they had they would see it was contracted with vsp. He diagnosed by dry eye, clogged tear glands and inflammation. He prescribed a medicine that was significantly helpful. He also recommended several OTC medical supplies to treat my dry eye. Dr. Austin is truly amazing! From the beginning with his introduction to the state of art equipment he has, you'll feel like you are in good hands. He was very inquisitive, and pays attention to the details of your history. At first, everything looked normal on most of the test results, then he had me do another test to rule out any other issues, and he found the cause of it! My initial ophthalmologist couldn't figure out the cause of my problem, but Dr. Austin had taken the time to put all the pieces together. He is very personable, and has good bedside manner. He's the only one who was able to shed some light on the reason for my eye issue. He's a true gem! Great, knowledgeable doctor! Front desk staff during my visit took more time to finish their make-up than taking care of my glasses. Three ladies and not one could really help. Little disappointing about that. Plus, way too expensive glasses and small selection compared to other optometrist in the region. I went here with a groupon because my insurance does not cover my vision costs. I have not had an eye exam in almost 2 years so I was looking forward to getting my new glasses. They called me notifying me that my glasses had came in when I had already paid $10 for shipping because I am currently residing in Texas and would not be in town to pick them up. Clear miscommunication within the company, whatever. I never got an e-mail or phone-call regarding when my glasses were shipped nor did I receive a tracking number of any kind. After a week of not receiving my glasses I called them and the receptionist gave me the tracking number. I look it up only to find it was delivered 4 days ago, I received NO package. I went to the post office to talk about whether my package was lost or stolen. They tell me to contact the Optometry Group to see if they would reimburse me when I start my claim. My glasses were worth $180 and they would not reimburse me and told me I had to pay the full amount. So in the end all I received was an eye exam and they gave me NO written prescription either. So now I will have to spend $100 on an eye exam once again and another $200 on glasses. Their only response to my problem was that I had to pay. Nothing else. Great service /s. Since I was not given a tracking number and found out 4 days afterwards, my claim will not go through because it's outside of the policies of when you can file a claim for priority mail. read more

Yay to groupon. Eye exam for $39 is cheaper than Costco and WAY BETTER than costco service/optometrist! First off my vision insurance sucks so they barely cover anything (blah). You do get $150 towards glasses, which brings you to regular online pricing but you get great customer service so you pretty much get what you pay for. Things you should know.. it's on the first floor in the corner of the tallest building at the block. You may know it as the old Argent building and new Cash call building (the main company name will change in 2 months! let's keep it real...whatever the fast money business craze of the month). Pros: Lots of parking Great Optometrist - - Dr. Austin is thorough, nice and friendly Cassandra - the glasses girl ..is super nice and accommodating Great Customer Service Cons: Hard to find the first time Glasses prices are normal. Standard lens start at $99 **of course they have overhead unlike online sites* I think from the Groupon, they over scheduled. Took me an hour inn & out without getting glasses. In the end, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I'm very pleased. My husband and I have been going here for 20 years and have never had a problem with the office staff so not sure what some of these bad reviews are about from those that have come here once. Dr. Austin was highly recommended to me and he is very kind and spends quality time with his patients. I drive about 40 minutes as I moved but still will come to Dr. Austin for my eye care. I have previously worked in the medical field and yes sometimes the staff can make mistakes but I wouldn't hold it against the doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Austin and feel that if there is a legitimate complaint, he will make it right but in 20 years, I have not experienced anything to complain about! read more

I went here once and had a nice experience over a year ago (February 2015). I did NOT make a follow-up appointment however a few months ago I received a call letting me know I missed my appointment? Not only did I NOT make a follow-up appointment with this office but I moved about 45 miles away so it would make no sense for me to continue going to them. Additionally, when I went to my new eye doctor they were not able to bill my insurance due to an open claim (I think that's what it was called). I contacted my insurance to figure out what was going on and learned that Austin Optometry had opened a claim. My mom used to work for Luxotica and explained to me that many offices do this so that they can be ready to take your money, it's all about commission. I called and the receptionist was nice but I was (and still am) beyond irritated, especially due to the fact that I know about this type of practice and I'm guessing she did too, she told me "oh sometimes the doctor books appointments for his patients..." and kind of trailed off. Sure lady. I had to pay a ton of money up front to my new doctor because Austin Optometry Group decided they'd make me a new appointment and get my insurance ready to go for them, and kept it open months after my supposed 'appointment' was supposed to happen. Shady business practices. Do NOT recommend unless you want the same thing to happen to you. read more

Best eye Dr I have ever had. Been wearing glasses since I was 5. So I have experience! The quality of care provided by Dr Austin and his team is second to none. I recent got new glasses that I was super excited about. Had them for 2 months and goofball me dropped them and broke the frame. I took them in thinking I'd have to pay for a new pair. I highly recommend Dr. Allen E. Austin. He was very nice and very thorough. I felt that he put me, my eye care and my comfort at a priority. The receptions there is a bit of a hoot. She's quite eccentric. I have a similar personality so I was fine with it but I'm sure others could be a little intimidated by her. What I really like about this office is they have an on-line website and you can schedule your appointment there. The office might be a little hard to find, it's part of the block at Orange, but on the side, I'd recommend trying to arrive about 15 minutes early to your appointment. I am new to orange county and needed an eye exam and new prescription glasses so I came across Austin Optometry Group on amazon local deals. Dr. Allen Austin was very friendly and professional. He gave me a lot of information and made sure I was able to have the best vision possible. I was a little disappointed in the lady that helped me when it came to choosing my frames. She did not interact with me and didn't help me to choose a frame. After I chose a frame she didn't even explain pricing to me or anything she just went about putting info in the computer and didn't acknowledge me until it came time to make my payment. I wish she would have interacted with me more...a lot more. The ladies at the reception desk were very welcoming and friendly, however. I just finished my annual check up with Dr. Allen Austin. Cassandra was really great in helping me find the new office location and his receptionist was really nice too. I opted to get the $35 images taken of my eye -- worth it in order to find out if something is wrong with my eyes. He has a really great setup where he can visually show things to me about my eyes and how they work. He has a program where he can draw on top of pictures and diagrams in order to explain things to me--very helpful. Lisa was fantastic in helping me find the right eyeglasses frame to fit me (I'm rockin' Diors now!) I even got a 20% off office discount and the Yelp Check-In promo for $50 of prescription eyeglasses was AWESOME!!! P.S. Ahhhh, a sight for sore eyes! I came here under my boyfriend's recommendation. This place is right next to The Outlets/The Block inside the tall "Cash Call" building and is conveniently located on the first floor. I came 15 minutes early, but they took me in right away for my eye exam. The receptionist, eye technician, and Dr. Austin were extremely cordial. I used to dread going to my eye exam appointments simply because the check-ups took so long to complete. However, at Austin Optometry Group, the entire staff works quickly and efficiently. The technician and optometrist wasted no time in getting my eye exam completed.
