Without question the best storage experience I've ever had. My family has 5 units in the building, and I am looking to rent 2 more. The place is always very clean and Daniel has been more than hospitable when I have asked for various favors. EXAMPLE: he knew that I was buying another space, so he had me wait a few days till a closer one became available. This saved me a whole lot of time. I've never used their storage facility. We came here to rent a U-Haul. The process was easy. While waiting for the paperwork to be completed, I walked around and noticed all the interesting things you can purchase. Didn't realize there was such an art to storing your belongings when moving stuff!! There were several different sizes of U-Hauls. The price is reasonable as long as you bring back the U-Haul in the same gas condition as when you rented it. read more

We've experienced an odd array of service at this location...and by "odd", I mean, "weird and some times wacky"...and by that, ultimately, I mean that it's has been both entertaining and slightly irritating. Rather than go into the details of various personalities at this storage facility, I'll focus on the straight dirt: Renting a truck to move items was a snap! We are decently happy with our rate given the space (and as happy as one can be paying to store all their crap!) Location and accessibility couldn't be easier (and we've had to make several trips back since getting set up). I like at least 60% of the personalities there. So, two stars missing for: inconsistency of service & never having received our first billing statement. In fact, we were only made aware of the invoice when we received a call to let us know that our payment was woefully LATE! Secondly, we DID receive an invoice, just with someone elses' name and unit #. So, that happened. To make sure that never happens again, I signed up for auto payment online. Sometimes, you just gotta grab the reins. From what I've read about other bigger named companies, I would definitely still recommend them over everyone else! read more

I had the best customer service and experience here. I had rented a uhaul then had chose another storage site just based off of deals online but it ended up not being what I hoped. So I hurried back to Allen Avenue to see if they had any available units for a decent price and Melanie the property manager was super helpful and quick to show us the units, inform us of the process/locks, etc. They even didn't overcharge me for returning the uhaul a little late because of the location switch. THE WORST SERVICE I've ever had!! Doesn't care about their customers at all!! Stay away from this horrible incompetent place! The manager Melanie is incompetent and unprofessional. Doesn't know how to do her job and asked me how to do her job? What kind of customer service is this! How can this company even be standing and have multiple locations? I've been doing business with Allen Avenue Self Storage for about 2 years now and so far, I have been happy with their services. They provide 3 different services at this location and I have tried all 3 --- they have their storage services (duh), but they are also a U-Haul rental and drop off location and they also have private mailboxes here. Storage Services: Good location and secure facility. When you rent a room, you get your own custom gate code you choose yourself. Call around for prices and they can usually meet the prices with other competitors. I love that they have probably the best hours in the area (7a-7p EVERY day, whereas most locations have shorter hours on the weekends). I have even referred my mother-in-law here, who still rents from them. You can also go to their website and pay your bill online that way, how convenient! U-Haul: Their U-Haul sign is not big so it might be hard to see if that's what you're looking for. Just remember: big, red, brick building! Service here is WAAAY better than the U-Haul on Raymond location. When renting a U-Haul here, you are getting Triple A (AAA) service, while at the Raymond location, you get DMV service :-( No long waits and good selection of cars to choose from. Just make sure that when you are returning something you didn't specifically rent from this location, call in advance because they may not have space and can't take it back. That's happened to me before. Private Mailboxes: Been using their PMB services here for a while now and I am happy with it. Prices are good and if you pay in advance (6 months or 1 year), you get like 1-2 months free. If you get big packages from UPS or FedEx, the staff even calls you and lets you know you have a package :-) Staff: They're great! Friendly and helpful. Must give a shout out to the peeps that gives me extra good service -- Jacey, Marie and Norman are super nice! The others are new so I don't know much about them. read more

I only have praise for employees Brandon and Frank; both very professional and courteous. I rented a cargo van, and Brandon made sure the van was clean. He saw dirt was left by a previous customer, so he immediately swept and wiped the cargo area. When I returned the van, Frank was friendly and showed great integrity. When he saw that I put in a lot more gas more than when I when I first took the van, he gave me a small discount I didn't expect. This makes me want to be a repeat customer and to recommend this place to others. These two employees are top notch. Problems arise when things aren't what they expect: like 2 units being paid with one check (took several MONTHS to get that mess straightened out), auto-add insurance, except they call it "protection" so they don't have to register with the commissioner, and very absentee ownership, so if Jaycee can't help you, it's just too bad. When we got the notice that they were upping the rates again this year another 6%, and snuck back in the insurance, we bailed on one unit, and later this summer we'll be out entirely. read more

This is my first ever experience with a self storage facility so I have no reference for comparison. Just from the standpoint of meeting my needs I have to give them high marks. We are selling our home and needed some temporary storage on fairly short notice. The facility is a little over a mile from me. The rental process was quick and straightforward. They sell all the moving supplies I need. They have rental trucks on site. Carts are made available for moving items into and out of storage unit. This storage will not let you store food in boxes or bags, but canned food is ok, therefore NO rats! NO bugs! it is very clean! They have airconditioned and un airconditioned units, but those buildings do have automatic fans that come on when the temperature hits 80 degrees. I have had stuff stored in both kinds of units for years and no rat pee or ants in my stuff, ever. They provide hand trucks and dollies for you. Their prices are very reasonable, so if you care about your stuff, store it here Also, their pod prices can't be beat. read more

After a long day of moving, we went to drop off the uhaul here at Allen Storage. The lady behind the counter, Kim said to us, did you guys forget the mattress pads? I said that's right it was us, did you charge us? She wasn't sure but she goes out to inspect the uhaul. She took the miles off the unit and told my sister to park in the back. She came back and said, you guys have hand trucks and moving blankets? I said yes, it's in the back. She walks back out and have my sister go back and get them out. When she came back, I asked her if she can refund us the mattress bag since we never took possession of them. She was rude and said no refunds. I said possession is 9/10 the law. You can't charge someone something if they never took possession. $5 isn't a big deal. It's how you treat someone. What kind of experience one has determines whether someone will go back and do business. She was so rude, funny thing is the office in the back has picture frame with words like success and achieve. In August of 2007, I thoroughly researched storage units close to my home in Eagle Rock. I had sold my house and was going to be traveling quite a bit. I was impressed with Allen Avenue and their commitment to customer service, and their assurances that this was a family company. Two years later, in August of 2009, I discovered moths had eaten through some woolens in one of my garment boxes. I brought this to the attention of the manager. He assured me that the building would be treated by Dewey Pest Control. When I returned to New York, where I am currently living, I followed up and was told that the Pest Control had sprayed. On Tuesday, May 25th, I traveled out to Pasadena with Scott Hill to rearrange my boxes for my upcoming permanent move to New York. I wanted to get the unit in an orderly fashion for the moving company whereupon both myself & Mr. Hill discovered a complete moth infestation in one of my carpets. Upon removal to the outer area to inspect we found the carpet to be completely destroyed. There were moths in my mattresses, the couch and other items. When I complained to Mr. Lawson, he deflected my concern, called the pest control and deemed it my fault - or rather - the fault of the carpet. He told me that the pest control had been limited to the outside of the building. I can honestly say that when I resided in Eagle Rock, I did not have a moth problem. There were no moths present in the first two years of my rental at Allen Avenue Storage. Although I was credited half a month for my lost clothing in August of '09, it now seems that the infestation is my fault. I was won over by the company's pledge for customer service, and now I feel very disappointed in this so called service. This facility has MOTHS. DO NOT STORE YOUR GOODS HERE. read more

I wouldn't even give this place one star. I called to reserve a uhaul truck from here about 4 days in advanced. I asked if they were open on Monday 9-1-14 (Labor Day), the lady said yes, so I made the reservation for 11:30 am that Monday. Went there and the place was closed!!! What the....I called them and no one answered the phone. Not good business, especially when I got a text message AND a call confirming the appointment. I'd love to know what went wrong. That left my boyfriend and I searching for a last minute rental because we had to move the remaining things out of our old place. read more
