In practical terms this place is an absolute no brainer - secure, accessible, well run. Consider you have or want to collect cases of wine. You do live in CA after all (the best wine region in the world) and there are so many wines to collect. It would be an absolute mistake to store cases of wine in a location that was not carefully controlled. In my opinion if you have more than 5 cases of wine you should be considering the Wine Grotto. They have 5 sizes of lockers and run at almost 90% occupancy at any given time. The sooner you get in the process the better off you'll be to getting the locker that fits your collection. When my Vinotemp 100 bottle cooler went out and Vinotemp was going to take 2-3 weeks to ship the part to fix it, I had to find alternate storage. I had passed by the Wine Grotto a few times so I gave them a call. Talked to Lien, and I went down to check it out. She showed me the available lockers, I found the one I wanted, very reasonably priced, $31 per month for a small locker which holds 100 bottles easy. Plus they have these stackable storage Tubes to rent at only $2 per month for 40, and 2 bottles (Even Turley size) fit nicely into each Tube, and you can also stack bottles above the 40 Tubes. Good secure feeling as it takes both a code and a Finger scan to get into the locker area. Only took a few minutes to do the paperwork and I was signed up for 6 months, as they are running a special right now, buy 5 months, get one month free. read more

After several years of contemplating the ifs, I finally decided it was time to get a proper storage locker to store my wine. I had two requirements, the first being easy access and the second a fairly modern and secure facility. Luckily, there were only 2 choices in the Pasadena area so doing research was easy. Stopped by, was pleasantly greeted by Athena. She quickly answered all my questions and gave me a quick tour where she provided a few options. After checking out the competitor, renting a locker here at The Wine Grotto was a no brainer. As others have mentioned, renters are granted access into the facility with the combination of your biometric finger print along with an access code. Another thing which sold me on this facility is the fact that the wine storage area is actually insulated and is primarily powered by solar panels. The entire facility is clean and fairly new. Only drawback is that leases are only for either 6 or 12 month terms (not great for long term storage) and may be subject to increases each year. Love how the staff here does daily inspections of all their lockers to ensure everything is safe and that the locks haven't been tampered with. read more

I had been looking for a safe, and temperature controlled storage space for my wine for long term cellaring, and was referred to the wine grotto by my colleague who works in the wine industry. Even before my first appointment the staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating, and I was able to bring my wine with me even to my first appointment! The facility is very secure, and there are amenities to help transport your wine from your car to your locker. They have a great video on their website that goes into detail of all of the features to help keep your wine cool! Highly recommend. read more

I was a customer since 2017. I loved the temperature control and the security aspect of the wine storage. I rarely needed to access to storage. I went there less than four times. When I recently went, I wasn't able to access my storage unit because a handle to a water line was obstructing it. I informed them about my situation and the manager Scott's reaction was that the "obstruction" had been there for a long time. Clearly, it couldn't have been since I accessed the unit initially without any issue. I scheduled an appointment to discuss the situation with him and coincidently he was on a conference call that would last a long time so he couldn't meet with me. One of the other office personal assisted me and they eventually had the maintenance person remove the handle of the water line so that I can access the unit. BOTTOM LINE, Scott's customer service was terrible and for the cost of the unit, there are other wine storage places that are much better and customer service oriented. I've been a customer for over 5 years and have always found them to be an excellent facility. When storing your wine, you need to have a reliable partner. Also, it is very handy to have wine shipments sent to them and they can receive them for you. While they are not the cheapest around, I think the prices are fair for the level of service. read more

What I like about the Wine Grotto is its ease of access and the fact that the correct temperature is maintained on a constant basis, even on very hot days. What I do not like is how difficult (and, in fact, dangerous) it can be to try to get new cases of wine into my upper-level locker. The main problem is that the mobile ladder is so narrow that it is nearly impossible to get up the steps while carrying a case of wine (wherein the bottles lie flat rather than standing upright). As a result, I have nearly fallen (or dropped a case of wine) several times. To solve this problem, you need to offer your clients a second ladder that is about two and a half feet wide. read more

I'm confident that the wine storage is at the right temperature and humidity level. I have wines shipped directly to them from the vineyards, which is very convenient. Open 7 days a week. I have stored my wine here for many years and enjoy the service very much. The personnel are always helpful and cooperative, and the place is always clean and at perfect temperature. Recently I received some shipments but was ill and couldn't pick them up right away, they kept them for me in the temporary storage for several weeks despite their 3 day window rule -- that was very much appreciated. I rented two weeks ago a wine storage locker at The Wine Grotto, part of StorBox Self Storage in Pasadena. The process was simple, pleasant and quick thanks to Athena. I walked in and was welcomed and shown the climate controlled and very secure facility and the numerous sizes I could choose from. Athena explained the process very concisely, did the paperwork and I moved some of my wine in all in under an hour. She sold me a lock and my finger-print was scanned for access through their digital security system. I purchased a excellent lock from her as well. Athena directed me to the convenient gate-accessed parking lot to load in my wine with the available floor dollies. This is a very good and reasonably priced facility. read more
