Cat presence always gets extra points from me. We were seated on the large shaded outdoor patio, and we were the only customers there. It was late in the day and I guess the midday rush had all just vacated at once. Our server was really great at describing the winemaking process, flavor profiles and history of the winery, but the patio was completely silent. We took out a phone to play our own music and she commented that her mother did the same thing when she visits. Dining experiences need music! If they're aware of this, I hope they consider adding some soft music for a more comfortable ambiance. Wines - All of the wines here are natural, which not many wineries can claim in this area, and I tasted some very unique blends like nothing I've tasted before. My favorite was the Syrah, but the rest of the wines weren't really my style. Food - The menu is changed regularly and it's obvious that the chef enjoys putting it together! We didn't get to try the ramen that my friend raved about because of the new menu, but we loved the mini "street taco" tostada and the spam maki. I did think some dishes would have been better served hot, like the orange-glazed chicken thigh. We had a lovely time tasting the wines here, and liked nearly every one of them, including their chardonnay. Wife and I are generally aren't fans of whites, but that chardonnay was divine! We confirmed we weren't nuts that day when we had a bottle of it with friends and family on Christmas, and they concurred it was excellent. We also really enjoyed almost all the reds we tasted as well. We liked them so much that we joined their wine club. Definitely recommend visiting Oso Libre if you're in the area! Unfortunately, we visited during harvest season, and the tasting area is located right next to the production area. According to our hostess, the production team was opening new wine barrels, which involved constant loud pounding and banging. The noise was incredibly distracting and made it nearly impossible to relax, have a conversation, or truly appreciate the wines we were tasting. Instead of the enjoyable wine tasting experience we had anticipated, we found ourselves just wanting it to be over. Considering we spent over $120, the experience felt like a complete waste of money. I understand that harvest season is an important and busy time for wineries, but I also believe that guests paying for a premium tasting experience deserve an environment where they can actually enjoy it. My advice to anyone considering a visit is to avoid going during harvest and production season, especially if you're looking for a relaxing and memorable tasting experience. We've heard so many great things about this winery, and I'm sure there's a reason for its reputation. Unfortunately, our experience didn't come close to living up to those expectations. A 3-bottle purchase will comp the tasting, I got a bottle of the Duetto, it was my favorite there. I also really enjoyed the Heart of the Vine and Malbec. The charcuterie is reasonably priced, and the cheeses were fantastic, they do not sell them there, but she gave me a card for the shop. It is located in Downtown Paso Robles. The tasting room itself is super unique and you can tell they really care about style and presentation. I loved the art throughout the space, and the labels are a perfect reflection of that personality. The wines are fantastic, especially for the price point. They aren't afraid to experiment with different winemaking methods or blend grapes together that I probably never would have thought to put together, and it makes for some really fun and unique wines. Everyone was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. I'm also a huge wine nerd and tend to ask a million nitty-gritty questions, and they were able to answer everything and actually have a great conversation about the wines.
